There is only one rule on this board other than the global one.

Keep the discussion about Touhou Gameplay.

Fangames, fighting games, and netplay is allowed as long as it relates to Touhou. Non-Touhou games that are similar in nature are allowed in moderation.

Dont worry /2hu/ will be fine and with the new world order of /2hu/ plus /thg/ it will be fine. Main issue is Next not failing and making sure both boards dont bleed users but thats more so up to people wanting to post. Been tempted to run ads on other boards but I am also tempted to run ads of people dox's on their own board just to annoy them.

I know it looks cool, but damn, he could've just stayed there and racked points up.

My memory of SA is hazy, though, but I'm sure the bullet fire ends after a few seconds - during which another one of those fairies comes out.

The original was much faster and the player didn't see it coming. Although it would have been possible to stay in there and graze. The big fairy would fire two waves before leaving the screen. The small fairies would also shoot aimed bullets, although there is enough room to stream.

I've just met Mokou, and at the recommended level, she's too much for me to handle.

Is there a certain setup required? I'm already switching my damage dealers out to soak up her debuffs, but they usually run out of MP shortly before her hitting zero HP for the first time; that is, if she doesn't decide to one-shot one of them randomly anyway.

The fight was actually a really neat way to see if the player understands the game's flow.

Being used to fixed party sizes, the kind of dynamic you have to apply in this game is really exciting.

Also, Sanae looks way older than I remember.

 No.167

I guess I'm just used to playing one of the main games all the time. I've never been big on fangames and I'm not used to this game's genre. I don't really know how it works or what the appeal is. It's instinctive for me to always play a shmup so I rarely play anything else. Maybe I'm just not in the mood to try new things.

 No.170

>>167

It's easy to learn, but somewhat hard to master. The game itself is being really verbose on things, so even if you're not familiar with the genre, the information provided to you should be enough to learn the ropes. As far as fangames go, this one is really great. And if you have questions, you could just ask them here, after all!

>I'd like seeing a combination of both.

That's quite idealistic.

>It seems to be difficult improving without becoming cynical. It's one of the reasons why I look up to high-level players who are still nice to others.

That's hard to do in a community like this.

>Am I perhaps being a bit too idealistic about this?

The language barrier is heavy in the shmup community. It's not so simple to attract Asian players. They are in a world of their own and don't care much for the West. I see what you are trying to do but I can't begin to imagine how it would be implemented.

>This is pretty much true for the whole genre. Bullet-hell is known as "Impossible" and "Inhuman". It's impossible to change the mindset of new players when thoughts like these linger in the minds of people that don't even play the games in the first place. The only way it'd change is if a large amount of players started playing the games and started 1ccing everything, they'd be able to represent how doable it all is in reality.

New players have no way of knowing what degree of difficulty these achievements really take. There's a massive discrepancy of skill between players in a game like Touhou.

>They have? Well, I guess it's true. Considering that there's people treating NMNB like it's the holy grail of Touhou. It'd be nice if people started taking it easy again. Whatever happened to "Yukkuri shiteite ne yo"?

Players stopped respecting the game and started to treat it as a popularity contest. They knew they couldn't be the best at everything, so they started to focus on narrow scopes and building their little domain for the sake of getting a share of the ego pie. It's not apparent to new players, but the relationships between higher level players are filled with hatred, lying, hypocrisy, and backstabbing. The rush from Touhou is meant to come from getting a good achievement after putting a lot of work into it. Because the game was so mistreated, players that fed on the attention that comes after a run instead of the run itself ruined the community. To them, evPost too long. That can be a good thing though! We'll have something we can work towards!

>They are in a world of their own and don't care much for the West. I see what you are trying to do but I can't begin to imagine how it would be implemented.

I'm not talking about forcing them to get along with the Western players. What I want is almost the opposite, a place where Asian players can connect with and talk to other Asian players

>New players have no way of knowing what degree of difficulty these achievements really take. There's a massive discrepancy of skill between players in a game like Touhou.

It's kinda funny how bad it's gotten. Really big achievement are severely under appreciated because of it. The time-delay between not playing shmups at all and getting several Lunatic 1ccs is smaller than the distance between having Lunatic 1ccs and getting a good high-score.

>the relationships between higher level players are filled with hatred, lying, hypocrisy, and backstabbing

Is it really that bad? I don't really hang around many players, so I wouldn't know much about it. Are you speaking from experience?

Let's make /thg/ part of that.

>I'm not talking about forcing them to get along with the Western players. What I want is almost the opposite, a place where Asian players can connect with and talk to other Asian players

The technical side is easy. All you need is a web host and domain. But how do you intend to get these Asian players to use your site? Will they really trust a site maintained by a ⑨外人?

>It's kinda funny how bad it's gotten. Really big achievement are severely under appreciated because of it.

Agreed.

>The time-delay between not playing shmups at all and getting several Lunatic 1ccs is smaller than the distance between having Lunatic 1ccs and getting a good high-score.

That's true. I've seen players start the game and get Lunatic clears in the time it has taken an experienced player to do a single achievement. Some high-level players can only get a handful of meaningful runs per year. A lot of work goes into it.

>[spoiler]

I am, sadly.

> But how do you intend to get these Asian players to use your site? Will they really trust a site maintained by a ⑨外人?

I hope that in a couple years I'll have a good enough reputation because of high-scores and nice 1ccs. I'm expecting people would simply trust me out of respect. Even though I don't have many friends, it turns out many people already respect me for some weird reason. But now is not the time to start community things, that comes later!

>Some high-level players can only get a handful of meaningful runs per year. A lot of work goes into it.

And what's even worse is that the only people who can comprehend how good a score is are people who have a score just as high, if not higher than the score you've gotten. For the remaining players a high-score is just a number they compare to the WR.

>I am, sadly.

Awww, I would totally talk to you and be friends with you and stuff!

You are quite ambitious. It will be interesting to see what you can come up with.

>For the remaining players a high-score is just a number they compare to the WR.

True. It's silly how many players think that scoring is only about the WR.

>Awww, I would totally talk to you and be friends with you and stuff!

Sounds like fun. I'll be right here. Unless you mean outside of the board?

I want to show you Touhou Doom. It's not only one of my favorite Doom mods but one of my most favorite games of all time. I loved it and I couldn't help but share it.

It has a wide selection of difficulties and is decently challenging.

It mixes the Touhou and Doom universes quite nicely. You will see plenty of elements from both.

The game is quite lengthy and usually follows a stage/boss layout like in Touhou.

This means that you will see gimmicks that correspond to what the characters do in the games.

There's a lot of characters and you get to fight many of your favorite 2hus.

The enemy patterns are based on danmaku. It makes you feel like you are playing Touhou as an FPS.

It has lots of weapons, original levels, great music, and some creative gameplay. Even some horror elements.

One flaw is that the "survival" stages can get a bit too long. Although that might depend on the difficulty.

I also fell across 2 bugs. One was that Parsee became invincible and prevented the game from continuing and another was that some enemies were stuck in the spawning room on a survival map, also preventing the game from continuing. I spent hours trying to find them before just killing them with cheats.

Link: http://b.1339.cf/aestxkc.pk3

For those that are new to Doom, you have to open up CMD and provide the pk3 file as an argument to the Doom executable.

Either ZDoom or GZDoom are recommended.

ZDoom tries to stay true to the old game while trying to modernize the engine and fix minor bugs: http://zdoom.org/Download

GZDoom advances the game with more capabilities for graphics and sound: http://www.osnanet.de/c.oelckers/gzdoom/download.html

I've been doing a lot of netplay lately. I never realized how technical Soku can be. There's a lot of good getting to do. I played it for the first time years ago but I didn't bother playing it seriously until a few months ago. It's also fun to play a cooperative game since the regular Touhou games can get lonely at times.

ULIL is surprisingly fun. I found it easier to pick up and start playing than Soku. But not having roll is a big problem. I can't play with anyone outside of the same continent. And that's not healthy for such a niche game. There's no roll because nobody plays and nobody plays because there's no roll.
