There is only one rule on this board other than the global one.

Keep the discussion about Touhou Gameplay.

Fangames, fighting games, and netplay is allowed as long as it relates to Touhou. Non-Touhou games that are similar in nature are allowed in moderation.

C-can we maybe talk about non-Touhou danmaku games too? I mean, the non-Touhou bullet-hell fanbase is so small, it feels like such a waste to separate them.

From experience I have never found the communities to be solvent. They tend to be on different terms. And they don't understand each others games.

With a board this small, it shouldn't be a big deal. Just keep it in its own thread.

 No.34

Does anyone have suggestions for board media such as banners and spoiler images?

Made this real quick. How about banners like this?

Oh, and I don't know the specific specifications in order to make banners on fullchan. Supported file-types, max file-size, supported resolutions etc etc.

This looks great!

But

>Error

>An error has occured.

>Banner editing is currently disabled. Please check back later!

Looks like we'll have to wait. 8ch still has a few quirks. I'm still getting Cloudflare pages regularly.

 No.92

https://beta.8ch.net/thg

Looks like the new software supports banners. We're going to be switching to it soon. That's scary. It seems to be unpopular and a lot of people are saying they will quit if they are forced to switch. Judging by the looks of it, I may be one of them. But it may not be all bad. The new site is supposed to be more reliable and customization may potentially fix how ugly it is. If things get ugly, I may post some alternative means of assembly.

Thanks for these. I put them on the beta site. I'm considering adding flags too. They would be an icon or symbol to represent each game.

I made a Touhou thread on /v/ today and it gained traction quite quickly. Although it had a lot of drama and meta, it was an active thread. It gained more posts in a few hours than this board has ever had. And it's currently more active than both /thg/ and /2hu/. Speaking of /2hu/, it's in quite a degenerate state. I have collaborated with the BO of /2hu/ to add a link to this board there. Hopefully a bit of collaboration can help spark discussion and attract more UIDs.

/thg/ has a problem with inactivity. The reason I started this board was because gameplay-specific Touhou threads on /v/ tend to be weeks apart and /2hu/ was reclining with only secondary threads. The activity on /v/ has made it evident that there is a significant amount of people that would like to participate. The idea was for this to be a place to communicate between the times when the thread is alive. I know that there are a lot of lurkers here, as is usual with chans, but it would be nice to get some discussion going. I'm hoping that some crossposting will help solve this.

It's quite sad what happened to /2hu/. It will be quite difficult to restore. If the problem persists, drastic measures will have to occur.

 No.110

>>99

If you feel comfortable with it. Then why not tell other people about /thg/ in the /v/ Touhou threads? You'll definitely get more posters and as long as the moderation here is good, the quality of posts won't drop. I'd hate to see this place be overrun by shitposters after all.

 No.111

>>110

I've done that a few times. This board was originally created out of a conversation on a /v/ thread. But I don't want to shill too hard or else people will end up getting annoyed. I haven't told anyone about this place from outside of 8chan however. But I don't know where to go that isn't cancerous. If you have some friends that you would like to invite or know any groups that can provide quality discussion, you should mention this board to them.

 No.112

>>111

The problem I have with advertising a board like this is attracting either secondaries, elitists, shitposters or those who take the games way too seriously. Having said that, the only place I can think of right now in which the discussion isn't entirely shit is halfchan's /jp/. There's actually been a good gameplay thread in there for the last several weeks. Though advertising there will attract parties that I personally dislike.

Other than that I'll try telling some friends about this board.

It's pretty hard gaining activity for Touhou gameplay or shmups in general. I hope you're not expecting too many new posters, because it'll probably take a while for the board to gain any traction.

 No.113

>>112

>halfchan's /jp/

I think anyone that it still on Halfchan at this point is beyond help. Do we really want people here that tolerate corrupt and faceless hotpockets, outright censorship, topic constringement, arbitrary and senseless rules, having to run Google Javascripts just to post, and the general stupidity that is associated with Halfchan? And let's not forget the chokehold that IRC has on 4/jp/. Although I'm sure you know about that.

I checked out that thread you mentioned and it looked a lot better than before. There's probably some posters there that would fit in. If you know anyone there personally or OTR that you would like to share a board with then you should invite them here. I lurked on the gameplay threads in 2011 and 2012 but left because the quality of posting got far too bad for me. It was never good but it turned into the worst quality of posting I have ever seen on the Internet by far. Part of my idea for this board is creating something like the gameplay threads on 4/jp/ or the Soku threads on 4/v/ but without all the things that ended up killing them.

>It's pretty hard gaining activity for Touhou gameplay or shmups in general. I hope you're not expecting too many new posters, because it'll probably take a while for the board to gain any traction.

I want to start a new community. Especially made up of those who feel disenfranchised in the rest of the community at large. I know it's going to be a quiet board but there's no point in making a new group if it's going to have the same problems as all of the other ones. There's plenty of cesspools already.

That being said, if this place does get traction, it's bound to be found out anyway. Thankfully, unlike Halfchan, we have the ability to moderate ourselves, if it ever comes to that.

>that rant

You're making me feel pretty bad about still browsing halfchan. Oh well, I get the message you're conveying. And yes, that IRC channel is actually one of the things I hate most in the Touhou community.

I've got some terrible news about the /v/ soku threads for you. Half a year ago I started browsing halfchan again, primarily for the netplay threads. Just 1 or 2 months ago, the soku threads died a nasty death with shitposting and namecalling that makes even /jp/ look tame. Which is a damn shame for me because I really enjoyed playing PoFV against other people there.

>I want to start a new community. Especially made up of those who feel disenfranchised in the rest of the community at large.

This line describes my state somewhat accurately. Though my dislike for the community isn't large enough for me to stop lurking several correlated websites. I'm hoping for this place to become a cool place for me to lurk and post.

I like the idea a lot. Thank you for making this board, and I look forward to spending time with all of you.

>>32

Would this also include run&gun games, e.g. Metal Slug?

>>92

Most of you will probably know this, but there's a /2hu/ Steam user group. In the worst case scenario, we could communicate and coordinate ourselves there.

I've never seen anybody in there actually play any Touhou games, though.

>>99

An intuitive split would be associating /thg/ strictly with video games and /2hu/ with other media such as music, the printworks and of course auxiliary discussion.

The issue is that nothing relevant takes place there. 4/jp/ has threads every now and then when a new chapter if WaHH or FS is released, but the translation effort is taking place somewhere else, afaik, and I'm afraid this board is facing the same issue.

>>113

That's harsh. 4chan still has its merits. Especially /a/ is fun.

What IRC are you talking about? I've never seen one being mentioned there.

If I may add my own suggestions for this board:

Provide context and (res-)sources. There's a thread showing replay statistics, but without showing people where to watch or upload your own replays. The other threads do this, however!

Take an active moderation role. Keep threads tight and tidy, enforce rules (I don't think lax regulations will cut it - look at /2hu/), manage events - for example, decide on a "Game of the Month" and provide challenges; make a dissection of stages and spellcards, so that people can help each other 1cc the games; organize parties and tournaments; and so on.

Change the default user name to something more imaginative!

Some of these suggestions can of course be implemented by users without administrative access, and I hope I didn't come off as pushy. I just can't really assess this board's direction and, for the lack of a better word, mode d'emploi.

>I like the idea a lot. Thank you for making this board, and I look forward to spending time with all of you.

That's adorable.

>Would this also include run&gun games, e.g. Metal Slug?

That's a tough call. I'd say to keep all non-Touhou in a single thread for now.

>Most of you will probably know this, but there's a /2hu/ Steam user group. In the worst case scenario, we could communicate and coordinate ourselves there.

I have a Mumble but I don't want to post it yet because it tends to kill the discussion on the site itself.

>An intuitive split would be associating /thg/ strictly with video games and /2hu/ with other media such as music, the printworks and of course auxiliary discussion.

That's the idea. /thg/ for games and /2hu/ for everything else.

>The issue is that nothing relevant takes place there. 4/jp/ has threads every now and then when a new chapter if WaHH or FS is released, but the translation effort is taking place somewhere else, afaik, and I'm afraid this board is facing the same issue.

Then we should be making threads. There's plenty of lurkers waiting for something to discuss.

>What IRC are you talking about? I've never seen one being mentioned there.

IRC tends to be the most cancerous part of any community, and this is especially true for Touhou.

>Provide context and (res-)sources. There's a thread showing replay statistics, but without showing people where to watch or upload your own replays. The other threads do this, however!

There's a link in that thread. There's also: https://8ch.net/thg/info.html https://8ch.net/thg/guide.html

>Take an active moderation role. I can't imagine being a strict moderator. I've also never been big on events but I would be supportive if one of you did it. It could be periodic too.

>Change the default user name to something more imaginative!

I changed it to 'Nameless Fairy' just recently. It's anonymous, Touhou themed, and matches /2hu/. What else could it be changed to?

>Some of these suggestions can of course be implemented by users without administrative access, and I hope I didn't come off as pushy. I just can't really assess this board's direction and, for the lack of a better word, mode d'emploi.

There's a loose goal based around making a community.

>There's also:[…]

Oh, I completely glossed over this.

Others might not be as careless as I am, but I suggest making the links more prominent in the OP.

>I can't imagine being a strict moderator.

I am no expert on board sociology and have never taken an administrative role in my life, but from experience, the more mass and traction a society gets, the higher the chance that there's a subversive vocal minority.

You also mention that NFSW content is fine as long as it's posted as spoiler, but things like these tend to derail threads.

I'm not suggesting to assume an autocratic role, but these are the dangers that I see coming from the community's side.

>[…] if one of you did it.

I'll be sure to wrap my head around it!

>What else could it be changed to?

Matching it with /2hu/ makes sense, since the boards are essentially siblings, and it would keep the user base homogeneous identity-wise.

It is a vain idea, but how about distinguishing users of this board as 大妖精 - Nameless Big Fairy?

I think the biggest issue for now is the migration. If I'm not mistaken, the last batch of posts copied only affect those made before 22.12, so our correspondence is already in Limbo.

Reconstructing it on the new imageboard wouldn't be an issue, but as the board owner(?), you'd have to make a call regarding its future.

Also, if this board is supposed to retain its ties with /2hu/, a decision will have to be made by its respective board owner as well, which hasn't been the case up until now, if I'm not mistaken.

>I'm not suggesting to assume an autocratic role, but these are the dangers that I see coming from the community's side.

Right now we are so small that it doesn't matter. We'll deal with it when the time comes.

>It is a vain idea, but how about distinguishing users of this board as 大妖精 - Nameless Big Fairy?

Let's keep it simple for now. If I were to make it in Japanese, it would probably be 名無しの妖精.

>I think the biggest issue for now is the migration.

I'm taking backups of the board. Once the migration goes through, I will recreate the posts.

The migration itself is worrying and partly to attribute for the loss of activity. The site is currently buggy and unstable, so upgrading the software is necessary. Unfortunately it seems that we may have something even worse until it gets fixed. This may drive even more fairies away. As of now, I'm just waiting to see what will happen to the site.

>Also, if this board is supposed to retain its ties with /2hu/, a decision will have to be made by its respective board owner as well, which hasn't been the case up until now, if I'm not mistaken.

I have corresponded with the BO of /2hu/. We have agreed to have the boards collaborate in an attempt to increase activity. This includes having a link in the board announcement.

How about something like "Certified Shrine maiden" or "Youkai Hunter". I think rolling with "Shrine maiden" or something in that vein would be a good start.

This sure is a mess.

Is there any way to keep /thg/ and /2hu/ together? In case the other dev can't salvage the situation.

 No.144

What do you mean by keeping them together? To have them on the same board or to make sure both of them survive?

For now I'm doing as >>137 says. I think they can fix it and that this will blow over eventually.

A fail-safe.

The current situation looks a bit grim. I'm hoping for a rollback, even if it's just temporary.

/2hu/ is unreachable for now.

 No.146

>>145

https://endchan.xyz/ seems to be the fail-safe. Both /thg/ and /2hu/ exist on it. Also, make sure to try both the beta and regular versions of /2hu/. The beta one is having stability issues, likely due to Josh reconfiguring the server settings.

This whole migration thing has been tough. I can't wait until everything is fixed and we don't have to worry about the site being unusable. Then we can work on getting the userbase back and developing the community.

The catalogue always redirects me to the beta version, where I'm served with 5xx errors.

Quite a lot of posts seem to be missing, as well, coinciding apparently with the last migration date.

I hope they wont be lost forever.

I feel the same.

>>146

Dont worry /2hu/ will be fine and with the new world order of /2hu/ plus /thg/ it will be fine. Main issue is Next not failing and making sure both boards dont bleed users but thats more so up to people wanting to post. Been tempted to run ads on other boards but I am also tempted to run ads of people dox's on their own board just to annoy them.
