The U.S. instigated, oversaw, and aided the recent coup in the ukraine, replacing the former government which was fairly neutral with russia with a somewhat moderate nationalist government that is hostile to russia, at the same time when this happened, russia annexed crimea with the popular support of the citizens there and as a message of sorts to the new government, at the same time using the momentum of the coup, in the donbass area of ukraine where there is a large group of separatists who want to be absorbed into russia and are fearful of the new nationalist government, so they organized paramilitary bodies and took donetsk/lugansk as well as some other villages in the donbass countryside, and it's pretty widely known that at this point, putin is sending both men and arms to aid the separatists though he continues to deny he has troops there
I really don't support either of them to be honest, it's a massive clusterfuck and just a chess game in the U.S./russian pissing match
