The part that makes since is making this shit just a tad harder to locate makes it harder to have removed. Standard DMCA practice is the claimer needs to point to specific things in the video to exemplify copyright, or at least that's what most porn archive sites ask for before complying. Simply saying "this is mine!" won't cut it and if they can't access the video, it's basically up forever unless they want to get litigious (BlueWut, as an example, has been trying to get her vids off PornHub for months, but most of them are marked as private).
The part that isn't surprising is PornHub (and other, similar porn archive sites) had a sudden influx of users in the last three years from people who left closed community sites. You know, small forums, large dumping sites and SAFF, where users are trained to A. share nothing outside of the site because fuck those people and B. you have to earn your porn by contributing, buying a membership and donating your kidney's.
