A Big cheap blender's gold cigar. I don't know much about the best tobacco products so I figure this board may be good for me.

Start with a clay before you buy your first real pipe. Sample tobaccos and find what you like.

Why can't I find pipe tobacco anywhere around me?

Best place to buy online? Recommend anything?

Favorite, but the perique might be too much for a beginner. It adds a certain fruitiness to it.

Usually you can find them at tobacconists.

That too. Clay's are good for sampling tobacco since they impart no taste.

I'm relatively new to smoking of any kind.
Recently, for fuck knows what reason, I've become very very interested in taking up pipe smoking.
I have a churchwarden I've set my heart on, but I've no idea what would be a good first tobacco to smoke. I've heard bad things about aromatics, but that could have been bullshit.

oh man. it arrived today. It's a lot smaller than I thought it would be.
Tried it out with some Frog Morton. I think I suck at smoking, or I just packed it terribly. It was an ok experience for my first smoke lol.

Smoked it again today, man it was a much better experience. I packed it much tighter and it stayed lit a lot longer. I have a hunch I'm going to enjoy aromatic tobacco much better though. That Frog Morton smells great in the tin but I don't think it's my taste for smoking. But the pipe works great apparently.
The only issue now is I keep wanting to smoke again hahah

A good to know as a beginner, was considering a cob type as they are cheaper.

As someone who never tried it is the tobacco for pipes really different than rolling or shisha tobacco? Are they cross compatible?

Just go for tobacco that is labelled for pipe consumption.

>is the tobacco for pipes really different than rolling or shisha tobacco?
There are many forms of pipe tobacco, many different cuts, flakes, plugs, rolls and twists.

Rolling tobacco is mostly a relatively fine cut of tobacco which works fine for a pipe, but there are many pipe tobaccos that won't roll well because they are a coarser cut, have chunks, or are in an un-rollable form.

>Are they cross compatible?

Not really. Shisha is totally different than pipe tobacco. You can stuff rolling tobacco in a pipe, or even chop up a cigar, but this is uncommon.

>Just go for tobacco that is labelled for pipe consumption.

There are lots of rolling tobacco blends that are labeled as pipe tobacco for tax avoidance purposes- basically all of the big bags that hang on the wall of your discount tobacco shop.

I tend to stick with tins because the bulk tobaccos in my local B&M are not high quality.

Pipe smoking is different than cigar or cigarettes. Keep that in mind when thinking about the prices. A large bowl pipe will smoke for an hour or more- like a big cigar, but using far less tobacco. A 15$ 50 gram tin might have about 10 bowls worth of tobacco.
