This is what happens when you are not true to yourself. He bottles up his true desires, whatever they may be, and puts on a false face publicly. Then when his more genuine sexuality emerges, it has become something creepy and pervy and undignified, and at times completely gross. Notice his little comments like

I don't understand the need for everyone to constantly make or seek a statement.

My guess is that in a world filled with constant frivolities and retardation, the need to stand out by saying "I'm better than the rest" really becomes a primary drive to add social credit to one's character. The way this is most easily done is to add a political message to what they're doing, so as to seem 'worth their salt'.

This social justice being forced down everyone's throat (including mine) has made me extremely cautious, weary and just generally prejudiced against everyone that seems 'nice', like they're some kind of blue-pilled retard.

My boyfriend's mother believes everything she hears on the news and never learnt that they do not have her or anyone's general interests at heart…

I guess what I don't understand is why they trade in a currency of suffering rather than one of value.

Their approach is

I would hope, but I don't think that's the case. Older folks get fooled by the nightly news because they assume that "News Institutions" have a reputation they don't want to tarnish - so they rely on them to do the fact checking and critical thinking for them.

On the internet, you're saturated in pure - unfiltered information. It's up to YOU as an individual to have your own critical thinking skills developed and evaluate each and every claim presented to you. Most people don't/won't - so instead of listening to an untrustworthy news media, they get their information from some jackass on a blog who tells them what they want to hear. To make matters worse, search algorithms personalized to you (based on your past viewing/search history) will largely filter your results to give priority to those stories and sources which already agree with your prejudices. So you end up right back in the echo-chamber.
