Violence against women and girls is a pervasive global problem, often deeply rooted in cultural stereotypes. Violence against women is more detrimental than the apparent physical effects; it also contributes to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, unwanted pregnancies, and poverty, while harboring long-term emotional and mental issues and significantly impacting the global economy.

Despite deeply rooted beliefs, people do adopt new attitudes or behaviors if they are convinced that such change can improve their lives. Effectively targeted educational tools can enable people to identify and think critically about destructive stereotypes, identify negative personal and community costs, and practice alternative behaviors. To address the issue of Violence Against Women, students at the Emergent Media Center at Champlain College, along with Population Media Center, are creating an electronic game based on three successful methods: the UNFPA toolkit of culturally-sensitive approaches to create change, the Sabido methodology of entertainment-education, and the FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football) "Fair Play" rules. Electronic games are a unique vehicle for reaching boys and young men. By profoundly shifting beliefs, stereotypes, and attitudes on gender issues, games can contribute to prevention of violence against women.

I've been waiting a while to make this thread because I needed to gather some resources first. Getting the board stable took up all the time I would normally use digging advertisers, so expect this list to be updated over the coming weeks.

First, the assessment.

As some of you know, I was the person who volunteered to scout the journo sites back in January and gather new lists of advertisers. Because of that activity, I have a very in-depth perspective on just exactly how effective Disrespectful Nod has been.

#GamerGate, you don't know what the hell you all have done.

Let me put this in perspective for you all.

The journo sites, at the end of January when the updates were finished? The original O:DN advertiser list that we targeted with emails through all of September, October, November, and December? You killed them all.

Every. Single. Normal. Advertiser. Pulled. Out.

All of them. At every site. The updated ad list was 100% new targets across the board.

Do you know where Gawkers "seven digits" came from? Gawker's main site was a WASTELAND of advertisements when I went back to do their update. Where once were ad boxes and pop-ups galore, there was only a single native ad link. ONE.

We left Gawker fucking sterile.

What happened was what we had expected to happen. After all the drama by aGGro over Intel dropping Gamasutra, the remaining advertisers saw the writing on the wall.

None of those who were left renewed their ad contracts with the journo sites at the end of the year. NONE. Not even INTEL. On Jan 1 they dropped Gamasutra AGAIN and didn't tell anyone a thing about it.

Quiet ad pulls that stripped most of the sites of their remaining income and forced them into using tons and tons of Google aggregated ads and native advertisements (product shilling articles.)

FROM THE WAY PEOPLE TALK YOU ALL HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA HOW MUCH DAMAGE DISRESPECTFUL NOD HAS CAUSED.

The journo sites are surviving on life support, and have been for months!

Now is not the time to even CONSIDER stopping the email train. O:DN was, is, and shall remain the sword that slays the dragon.

This thread will be stickied to facilitate daily email goals targeting advertisers who remain. Many of these will be aggregated ads that we can only marginally affect - but we have options there also. Native ads we can destroy without mercy.

The Rebuild Initiative

With the positive reaction of Operation Rebuild, we want to keep the momentum going and streamline it by turning it into a general letter writing campaign called The Rebuild Initiative. This is done because hand written letters carry a massive impact in the age of digital media. A single, well hand-written letter is worth 100,00 e-mails.

When writing your letters, make sure to go over these key points
1. Talk about your experiences, how gaming has affected you personally and what it means to you.
2. Show solidarity towards the developers, whether they are indie or corporate, who feel separated from us, the gamers, because of game journalists.
3. What are your experiences with game journalists and how have they positively or negatively impacted your experience with gaming?

Also remember to write your own letters and not just take a copy paste, individual experiences are a powerful thing and 100 letters with the same thing is no better than an e-mail. (If you really want to send an e-mail too, that's not a problem.)

Captain Obvious to game devs: SJWs don't buy games, stop pandering to them

Its been clear for a while that SJWs are mostly broke losers and that they don't play games, pretty much every steam account shilling for mr.wu "trannies in space" game had no games in their libraries, they didn't even bother to install some F2P games (which are free in case you don't know what f2p means) to at least pretend they are not sockpuppets and angry shills.

But in this case it wasn't the laughingstock at the end of the line in ghazi (mr.wu) but the dear leader anita herself who showed she has no fucking influence in vidya at all, meaning that any devs that leave games aside to stand with the SJWs should get ready for bankruptcy and/or turning tricks behind the nearest gamestop.

With Obsidian fan boys creating 3 threads so far with the same content, here's one more with the counter-argument

Obsidian DID cave the moment it reached out to the $500 backer, who obviously was a big enough fan to cut them some slack and remove his joke voluntarily. But that is still censorship and that still goes against what the majority wanted, which was to leave the joke alone.

If we allow this to stand, then it's going to be a free season for SJWs. It's time to put up or shut up. Without a boycott, without showing an example of these guys, devs will cave in day-in day-out. Here's why (Copy pasting):

Boycotts are fine, use them only when the company has proven to behave in an anti-consumer manner. Obsidian has passed these conditions.

Boycotts don't end when you don't buy their game, it also continues on with generating bad PR infographs like in OP and spreading the word about their bad behavior to potential customers in such a manner that they're also obliged to spread the word to their friends.

That's why they teach you the customer is always right. One bad experience from one customer can potentially lose you a hundred sales.


Don't let rigged strawpolls decide for you. Use your head. You don't have to organize the boycott under the hashtag. There's absolutely no excuse not to, if you're so much of an Obsidian fan that this makes you butt hurt, you have three other threads you can voice your opinion on.

Alright, this is what I've managed to condense so far. There's probably more, but I think I have the key points of OMFGNinja's video.

2) Heather Kelley did a talk on controlling people via video games, and how to use this power correctly. This is the Ludic Salon talk.

Key points of this talk:
2.1) How the concept of "Achievements" makes people do things they wouldn't.
2.2) How loss of control is politically powerful.
2.3) Kelley was working on a manifesto (If I'm right, it's called "Controlled Invasion"…even though that's the title of a small video she shows) on how to harness this power, and does express a fear that this will be used for evil; she wants to make sure these mechanisms aren't entirely hidden.
2.4) The manifesto happily suggests that the distinction between the "real world" and "game world" would be eliminated…and that games could be used as "agents of change."
2.5) It also suggests that this sort of change would necessarily have to happen over multiple generations, and that governments could use this as a tool to promote social change.
2.6) They suggest that both the right and left are very interested in using this.
2.7) They suggest that a set of ethics should be put forth to only use this power for "positive results." Someone suggests that this term would have to be defined. They put forth their own definitions.
2.8) They suggest that game developers admitting that they *do* have the power to create "positive results" would imply the power to create "negative results," which is frowned upon. (They did not say "Because Jack Thompson," but they obviously wanted to.)
2.9) Most disturbing: one person suggest that without a market incentive to make fun games, they wouldn't have to make fun games…and this might be good.
2.10) A refrain of theirs is "Break the magic circle." That is, they want to break the barrier between the "real world" and the "game world."

3) Heather Kelley is testing these techniques out in a benign fashion: teaching african kids to not beat the shit of their wives.

My personal analysis:

I was not immediately convinced that Kelley is a "bad guy." She addresses the same concern that /pol/ has: that people will unknowingly be brainwashed by video games. However, she goes on to speak about this positively, rather than negatively.

We can't stop this technology from being developed. It's happening. The only thing we can do is make ourselves immune to it, and to point it out when it happens. At the very least, we have to thank Kelley for being relatively open about using it. A government would not have been so open. At the very least, we can do something about it, because these people are very open about using it in the ways that they are.

Their refrain is "Break the magic circle." That is, they want to mix the game world and the real world. (At the risk of being called a shill, I must say that if Gamergate were to rebrand itself, calling ourselves "The Order of the Magic Circle" or some variant would be good.)

We must defend this magic circle! Reality is reality, and video games are video games!

I think new goals of ours should be:

1) Learn how to resist propaganda in video games.
2) Spread that information.
