I wonder how TTG's more modern games like TWD or TftBL would work as point-and-click adventures. I suppose it might be a bit more difficult to build tension with that format, which those series kinda require. What do you guys think?

 No.14054

>>14053
Well, they already have some point and click aspects, but not many.

 No.14055

>>14053
I think they'd largely be the same, but would have more gameplay, no QTE's, and they wouldn't be choice based games. I also think that maybe they'd be more open ended. For example, being able to travel to and from the motor inn and farm freely in episode 2 of TWD.

I taught myself by watching animu and imitating the different styles. I started with Dragonball Z. When other anime started premiering on Toonami, I realized DBZ's style was pretty awful. Tenchi Muyo was the most influential. Later, I tried to steer away from the anime influence and try my own style, but it can be pretty taxing as I was so used to drawing a certain way. It's pretty evident.

Huh, any tips for me if I were to start trying to draw? I just want something to pass the time when I'm in class and "learning" something I already know. I suppose I need a reference to draw from? Obviously I know what Clem's face looks like, but I'm not sure I could draw it worth a salt.

By the way, I'm digging that cursive you've got going there. Really pretty, and a lot better than my chicken scratches.

I'm not obsessed with Japanese culture, and to be honest, I don't really like modern anime. The last series I watched was Gungrave I believe.
I think I can list all the anime I have watched though.

DBZ
Tenchi Muyo
Record of Lodoss War (my favorite)
Cowboy Bebop (my second favorite and another series influential to my drawing)
Outlaw Star
Trigun
Rune Soldier Louie
Slayers
Gungrave

Series I tried to watch, but lost interest in:
Yu Yu Hakusho
Gundam
Ruroni Kenshin
Full Metal Alchemist

Other than that, there's not really a lot of anime I have watched, Miyazaki films count too, I guess?

I have yet to see a modern anime that piques my interest.

You would not believe how many DBZ fans there are in Mexico. Apparently it's because DBZ was one of the few Spanish dubbed shows, and Mexico doesn't have very many original children's shows.

r34 in general. I have no desire to actually see any of the pictures for obvious reasons, but since the people that make r34 are the only people with comparable experience to me in SFM, I figure they might know something that could prove useful.

They often use higher graphics settings then you. I don't know what the graphics settings are in SFM, but whatever you used for your hotdog pic seemed to be what usually gets used for porn. There also seem to be a lot of use of custom lighting, usually in small areas like bedrooms and such.
I'm gonna go pour some bleach on my eyes now.

 No.14127

>>14126
Huh, I don't think I did anything unusual for the hotdog pic. There also isn't such thing as "graphics settings" in SFM, although I suppose they might be a little more generous with AO than I am.

The lighting thing is a good tip, though. I rely on map lighting a bit too much.

It's probably just because I tend to use a of props, whose quality vary quite a bit. The hotdog is really the only other thing besides Clem in that image, whereas the superbowl picture has loads of crap all over the place. I'd rather have the props there, though. Makes it more believeable.

If you look closely at the blanket, it has some horizontal banding. I did my best to correct it which is why you probably don't notice it, but it's still there.

 No.14133

>>14127
I found that the best way to improve in SFM images and animations was to approach them like a movie set. Appropriate lighting isn't really straight forward and the necessary angles, colors, intensity, or the number of lights needed isn't always obvious. I know when I used to get deeper into SFM, I'd find myself using a surprising amount of light sources at times to get just the right focus, mood, and highlights I was looking for.

Even the shadows cast by light sources can lead to some interesting results that either improve an image or distract attention away from something.

You might look up the golden rules of photography as well as lighting tutorials for sfm on youtube if you really want to get into it.

 No.14135

>>14133
The big issue for me was that the map lighting tended to wash everything else out, so any additional lighting only worked in particularly dark locations. However, I discovered the other day that you can turn the tone map scale in the camera down and just use more intense lights, so hopefully my lighting techniques will improve now that I'm not constrained by the environment lighting.

 No.14136

>>14131
When I say the hotdog pic looks better, I'm speaking in terms of graphics quality, rather than whatever it is you're thinking of.

 No.14137

>>14136
>I'm speaking in terms of graphics quality
Yeah, but there's no such things as graphics quality in SFM, which is why I'm kinda baffled. It's not like you can turn textures or AA down, for example. My point was that the relative emptiness of that scene in addition to the high quality hotdog model might make it seem like it had more graphical fidelity, when in fact it's the same thing as every other picture, just higher quality assets.

Eh, who knows.

I really don't know how else to explain it, but if I were to try, this pic was also made in SFM, but if I didn't know any better, I could've mistaken it for a Gmod pic. The hotdog pic on the other hand was very clearly made in SFM, and I would never mistake it for a Gmod pic because of the obviously high quality graphics.

Hmm. What do you think of this, then? Same angle, same props (the splash effect changed for some reason), but drastically different lighting. I would have tried to "fake" a daytime scene, but illuminating the entire background would have been nearly impossible.

I think it's just a lighting thing. The reason I think it looked weird before was because Clem and the rock next to her had no shadows. Also the water is kinda crappy but I can't fix that, at least not in the few minutes it took to throw this together.

I also found "clem banana.autosave" lying around from when I was doing >>13803

>That just makes it look more like a night scene
Yeah, that was kinda what I was going for. Not much to work with when I'm forced to darken the whole map in order to get somewhat decent lighting, and brightening the key light too much to highlight Clem brings the "no shadow" problem back again. Another thing I noticed is that ambient occlusion doesn't work on map geometry, which is kind of a bummer.

Guess I'll just have to pick a location a bit more carefully in the future.

There may be some difference in her character depending on who she went with or if she was alone, but it can't be so significant that it derails the plot, her development, or worse, splits her into essentially different characters. No one, no matter how good their writing chops, can possibly make a goody story that diverges that significantly. That's the inherent problem of determinant characters: if they survive their 'determining moment', their continued existence is a threat to the story. They can't have too much clout on the plot or the main character's development because they risk altering the established storyline. The solution then is to have them "leave" the story at some point or get thrown into the background where they will have little, if any, effect on anything.

Kenny and Jane should never have been determinant and I hope they don't show up next season. If they do they will be doomed to either quickly "exit" S3 unceremoniously or be stuck in the background as a deadweight cameo and probably "exit" later anyway.

You and I have had a discussion about this before. While I can see it happening, I prefer if AJ was allowed to develop and become a compelling and interesting deuteragonist who has continuing influence on Clem's character, because that was sorely lacking in S2. I've watched every movie on that list, so don't pick one on my account.

Witching and Bitching is a really weird Spanish movie. I wouldn't recommend it.

I imagine with the amount of animation in a typical TT game, it's probably way cheaper to just mocap everything. Natural looking animations are very difficult to make, and hiring people that can do it is probably really expensive.

I went there recently and I'm inclined to agree with you.
Zion Canyon was much better though. Its rock formations were really cool looking and varied, and you could drive right through the canyon around really steep bends and stuff. You could also stop along the side at almost any point and clamber around the rocks if you wanted to.

There was a big Japanese school group when I visited too, I passed by them when I was walking upriver in the mud. One girl slipped and fell and got mud all over her. I wonder how Clem would react to taking a slip like that and getting all muddy.
