Progress! I think it looks pretty good, right?
Still gotta fix the inside of the sleeve though.

No.17908

No.17909
>>17904Clem is resourceful. She'd win the fight if it was anywhere except a small, closed off, 4 walled arena with absolutely zero items within reach. Hell, even so, I like to think Clem would be a Macgyver type. In fact, she might just unlace her shoestrings and garrote Becca.
No.17910
>>17909This. Clem would rely on her wits, and whatever she could get her hands on to win the fight. If she can take out an adult sized zombie, she can win in a fight against another girl that's slightly bigger than her.
No.17911
Good morning, anons.
No.17912
>>17911Good evening anon. The thread is looking a little dead right now so I'll post about something I was thinking about earlier.
I think season 1 of TWD did determinant characters better than season 2. Not just because they actually did something while they were alive, but because of the way they're determinant. In episode 1 you have to choose to save Carley or Doug, you can only choose one, and you can't make no choice. In season 2, Nick and Alvin are determinant but it's a choice to keep them alive rather than a choice between them. I think it would've been much more interesting if Nick or Alvin died no matter what in episode 2, it's just a matter of which one depending on your choices.

>>17916Lionsgate is giving them a bunch of money now, right, enough to for their CEO to get a seat on TT's board of directors? They could use that money to improve their engine or even build a new one.
No.17919
>>17918Well the animations aren't an engine issue. They just need to stop animating everything by hand and rent out a mocap studio. It would probably be more cost-effective, too.
No.17920
>>17919True, but their engine still has a lot of issues. They got to fix that eventually, especially before they do that "Super Show" thing.
>They just need to stop animating everything by hand and rent out a mocap studio. It would probably be more cost-effective, too.Would hiring much better animators, like ones who've worked on Pixar films, be a better, if more expensive, solution?
No.17921
>>17920>Would hiring much better animators, like ones who've worked on Pixar films, be a better, if more expensive, solution?Maybe, but hiring
SFM porn creators might be a better, cheaper solution.
No.17922
YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play.
>>17920>their engine still has a lot of issuesYeah, it certainly does. It'd be nice to have a stable engine that supported somewhat modern graphics options. Even my final 3D graphics project had more AA options than the typical TT game.
>Would hiring much better animators, like ones who've worked on Pixar films, be a better, if more expensive, solution?Perhaps, but you've gotta consider the animation workload for a typical TT game.
Every single scene must be animated individually. That's a lot of man-hours. Compare that to a typical videogame like an FPS, which really only needs a handful of running/shooting animations that work in almost every situation.
With a mocap studio, they could just record entire scenes at once, and then go back and tweak things as necessary. I mean look at this. This was done by an amateur animator (like me!) with 2 kinect cameras. Hardly a professional studio, and yet it looks much more natural and smooth than many TT animations.
No.17923

As well as hype.
No.17928
>>17926>>17927Best part about this is that now I know how to give her clothes, so I can give her all sorts of cute outfits if I want to!
Given enough time, that is.The scrubs still need a bit of tweaking, but it's great to finally see it actually working.
No.17929
>>17928Yeah, the scrubs outfit could use more detail, it's lacking in that department compared to her default outfits. It's still amazing you got this to work though.
No.17930
>>17929I'm thinking about bumping up the contrast a bit and adding a few accents and outlines so it looks more "authentic". I gotta find a medium ground between completely realistic (my textures are essentially product photos from Amazon) and the comic book style, and that's gonna be tough. I'll probably leave that task for the weekend though; I'm starting to see why TTG loves recycling old models.
Normal maps would help a lot, too.
No.17931
>>17930>I'm starting to see why TTG loves recycling old models. Not to mention the fact that they have to make their games in a timely matter.
No.17932
>>17925That's really great, anon! I wish I'd know how to work with her in a more advanced level too.
No.17933
>>17931Well, most of the content creation work is for the first episode, which they don't really need to release "on time". But yeah, I suppose new sets and props for subsequent episodes probably take a while to make.
Speaking of which, I kinda love/hate TTG's episodic release schedule. On one hand it helps build anticipation for the events of the next episode, but on the other hand it gives them a lot of room to pull their shenanigans like delays and rewrites.
>>17932All you need is a lot of free time.
No.17934
>>17920>their engine still has a lot of issuesI was thinking about this a little more, and I remembered that TTG releases on like 10 different platforms (Count 'em: S2 released on PC, Mac, PS3, 360, iOS, Vita, PS4, XB1, Android and
Ouya). That's probably why they haven't done much to improve their engine. I know first-hand that supporting multiple platforms is a royal pain in the ass.

Frankly if you're not willing to do that work and spend that money you shouldn't try to make story driven games and then put shit like pic related in them when you know it isn't true.
>>Will they finally make them matter in future episodes? No.

>>17956Yeah.. I'm the person from the last thread. I don't really like using that name because I don't want to be confused with the other guy. Seems like we're both in rough sorts and I feel bad because I think he was called that first.

No.17960
>>17959Even though I'm asking you this, I suppose anyone else can answer this question if they want. How did you get into TWD? How did you discover /ttgg/?
No.17961
>>17960Uhh… I remember watching footage of the first episode on youtube somewhere and really liked the characters and their dialogue. It seemed like it might be an interesting story and reminded me of all the adventure games I played as a kid. I hadn't seen the show or read the comics at the time though.
I found /ttgg/ on halfchan's vg shortly after playing a few episodes and followed you all here after things fell apart.
No.17962
>>17960I remember reading an article about The Walking Dead in a magazine, about how it was going to be a TV show and I was like, "no, thanks".
I saw the game available on PSN and thought it was just based on the TV show.
One night, I was bored and S1Ep1 was free on PSN, so I figured I'd try it. I played it and it was the first time videogame characters actually made me feel, so I was hooked and bought the "season pass".
I discovered /ttgg/ on halfchan back when I used to draw for
that board so I was somewhat a regular on halfchan. Once S2 came out, I really wanted to discuss it with other anons who play it, so I would catch a few threads on /v/. One anon mentioned the general on /vg/ (at the time, I had no idea what the difference between /v/ and /vg/ was), so I migrated there and have been here ever since, with a few short hiatuses.
No.17963
>>17960Played all four episodes of S1 within a week of Ep5 coming out and got hooked right away. Cried at the ending, been a fan ever since. Found /ttgg/ while boredly browsing hotwheelchan's listing.
No.17964
>>17961Well anon, I'm glad you're still here with us. I'm guessing TWD was your introduction to telltale games? Have you played anything else by them?
>>17962Funny how you're still dedicated to a general for a game you thought you wouldn't enjoy.
Maybe you should take it as a sign to play TWAU and TFTB for more than 10 minutes.>>17963>hotwheelchanSo you didn't find /ttgg/ until after we migrated to 8chan?
No.17965

No.17966
>>17964>Have you played anything else by them?I had already played some of the sam and max stuff by that time. The only other game by them I tried was wolf among us, but I'd still like to try the back to the future games eventually.
No.17967
>>17966You should check out Tales from the Borderlands when you can, it's the best thing they've done since episode 1 of TWAU. Tales of Monkey Island is also good, but I haven't played any of their other games besides the Poker Night ones.

No.17983
>>17980Can you give an example?
No.17984
>>17983No, but maybe I can expand on something we talked about earlier. As the modanon, I have some understanding of how the games files work. Basically, not only does telltale reuse assets, but also rehash models. What I mean by that is, characters using the same facial animations as other characters. Next time you play the game, take a close look at the way certain characters faces look when they talk or make a facial expression. You might notice some characters look similar to others.
No.17985
>>17984Yeah, I've noticed it before. I'm starting to think Telltale is actually pretty shit and lazy when it comes to making games, aside from the story part.

>>18112>What did they do in that game? The game has branching paths in the form of good, bad, and neutral objectives to complete in each level. What objectives you complete in what level change what levels you play in the game, and what you end up playing last determines the ending which can be slightly different depending on if you decide to complete a good or bad objective in the last level. However, after you've gotten all the endings there's one more "last story" to complete which is supposed to be the canon ending, defeating the purpose of the whole, choose your own path thing. The game is also only 7 levels long anyway, which is too short for it to count anyway in my opinion.
