I'd like to see Clementine have to defend herself against someone else around her age. What your reaction to the new Walking Dead TV series?

>>20580I'll give it a shot. I don't really have any other summer shows aside from The Strain, but I already know how that plays out so it might be nice to have something else to watch during the week.
I just don't want this show to have the same plot-armor issues as the main TWD. They've already established that the show is a different universe than the comics, so it's annoying to see the same characters "get lucky" over and over again.

>>20585I guess it's supposed to be some weird meta joke or parody? Kinda weird since that's typically the kind of humor you see in GTA games.
No.20587
>>20584>different location>different charactersI think it'd be interesting since it takes place in L.A. With such a dense population, that means either a whole lot more walkers to deal with, or a whole lot more bandits who want your shit.
Not to mention it's not following any set story like the current series which follows (loosely) the comics, so we have no "guide" to follow and it'll keep us guessing.
No.20588
>>20587But it's still just gonna be the Walking Dead all over again in concept? "Survivors wander around dealing with zombies and bandits, but on the WEST COAST". Unless this show does something really different and fresh, I don't really see the point of it's existence other than AMC wants to squeeze more money out of the franchise and fill another time slot.
No.20589
>>20588I'd hope it meant it would be more about the survival and walker aspect than story, but chances are it'll be more of the same.
No.20590
>>20545Huh, that was interesting. We actually hung out, in addition to "hanging out". I even streamed a movie to myself and her! Who'da thought that would come in handy?
>>20566>Season 3 comes out next month!>Haha, April Fool's!That would just be cruel.
>>20573She'd probably absolutely
hate Diplomacy, then. That is the board game to end all board games, and I love it.
>>20580Seems like kind of a cash grab, but it would be nice to see TWD apocalypse in somewhere that isn't the South. Not sure how innovative they can be with it, but it might be cool to actually see the outbreak and spread instead of glossing over it, especially in a dense population center like L.A. Perhaps we'll see that government task force that TTG invented. Don't remember what it was called.
>>20587>L.A.>Korean shop owners on the roof shooting walkers all dayIf you made friends with those guys, you'd be set for life.

No.20592
>>20588>Survivors wander around dealing with zombies and banditsI guess you're right, but can't the same be said about all zombie media?
One of the things that pulled me into TWD was how it shifted the focus from killing zombies as campy as possible, to the struggles and relationships of the survivors.
To me, this new series is a fresh start.
From the trailer, it looks like we might be able to see the first moments of the outbreak and witness peoples reactions to this sudden change, rather than how it was with Rick, when he woke up several weeks into it.
No.20593
Damnit, now I really want Korean shop owners in TWD. I mean look at these guys. They mean business.
>>20591I can see the headlines now
>"April Fool's prank goes wrong after internet cult worshiping fictional girl commits mass suicide">>20592>the first moments of the outbreakThis is something that
very few movies, shows, etc. have done well. I'll mention again here that I'd really like to see more focus on exactly how the military was able to get overwhelmed so easily. I want to see them panic as their supply lines get cut off, as their brothers in arms are claimed by the dead. It would write itself.

>>20592>I guess you're right, but can't the same be said about all zombie media?I never really got deep into the zombie genre for this reason actually. I got into the TWDG(S1) for the same reason you got into the show. The only other zombie story I really enjoy is World War Z (the book) and that's because it also did something unique with the genre. I guess the TWD formula is getting stale to me; the only thing keeping my interest in the games at this point is Clementine and her story. Once that's done I'll probably drop the franchise.
>>20590> Perhaps we'll see that government task force that TTG invented. The what now?
>>20595>Federal How have I never noticed this? They don't seem terribly significant though. It just looks like a fake FEMA knock-off.
No.20599
>>20597Yes, that is /k/ode for urbans. Actually, it's more of a /pol/ term.
>>20598>They don't seem terribly significant though.According to the wiki, they're actually responsible for a lot of the disaster "relief" effort. They're the ones announcing the danger levels over the radio in Glenn's car, and they have signs posted all over Savannah. They also posted the evacuation notices on the corkboard in 400 days.

I agree 100%
I guess I'm just too hopeful that the new TV series will offer something new, but I'm sure I'll be let down.
No.20601
>>20600Same as me. I'm only interested in the games and only watch the show when "doku" is streaming it.
No.20602
>>20599I meant they're not a significant to the overall story or world, at least anymore than other government agencies. They could've just been called FEMA and wouldn't be at all different.
>>20600Sorry, I didn't mean to get your hopes down. For what it's worth, I'd also like this show to try something new to breathe new life into the franchise. TWDGS1 was a spin off in a way and it realized the Walking Dead universe's potential better than anything else in the franchise.
No.20603
>>20601Man, it feels so weird to see people use my name in here.
But yeah, kinda the same here. If it weren't for Clem, I probably wouldn't have played S2. I only watch the TV series because I have a sick fascination at how bad it can be at times.
>>20602>They could've just been called FEMA and wouldn't be at all different.Maybe TTG thought they might get in trouble if they used an actual government agency? This is actually something I'd like to know.
>it realized the Walking Dead universe's potential better than anything else in the franchise.Agreed. TWDGS1 is
the best TWD media in my opinion. It has its faults, but approaches almost every single theme worth exploring under the sun, and succeeds.
No.20604
>>20603Yeah, no matter what happens with the TWDG series at this point, whether it bombs, gets a shit ending, or gets bled dry by Telltale refusing to let it end, at least we'll always have S1 as this great, self-contained story with great characters.
No.20608
>>20593>I'll mention again here that I'd really like to see more focus on exactly how the military was able to get overwhelmed so easily. This has always been one of the more unbelievable common aspects of the zombie genre to me. Not the military getting overwhelmed and defeated, but getting utterly annihilated and quickly so. If a few civilians can band together and survive for years why wouldn't a vestige of a well-trained, well-equipped military survive in some form like an enclave?
The only zombie stories I can think that don't immediately wipe out the armed forces as a significant entity are The Last of Us and World War Z. Then again I don't consume a lot of zombie media so I don't know how many exceptions there are.
