I was also looked forward to the R-18 stuff she wanted to draw, not just because I was thirsty and eager for lewd adult Clem art (which I very much still am), but because she wanted to make it realistic, tasteful, and loyal to the characters and in her own style. Basically, she shared a lot of my interests and she made wonderful art out of them.
I wish had taken the opportunity to discuss those things with her, about how she thought the dynamic between Clem, Kenny, and AJ would play out, why she thought it would work out like that, and about the art she made illustrating those ideas. I'm not sure why I didn't talk to her more, I just regret that I didn't.

Basically, that's a fancy way of saying that it looks at simple versions of the image, and then gets more precise if it thinks it detects a feature. Since images can be hundreds or thousands of pixels in each dimension (a 1000x1000 image would be 1,000,000 pixels, each with an R,G, and B element), this speeds things up quite a bit by throwing out regions or entire images where there's no detected features.
Under normal circumstances, I would have had to train a classifier using several positive and negative training examples, but thankfully Intel bundled an eye recognition classifier with OpenCV. I used that classifier to try and find all instances of eyes in the pictures I had (>>21712), then use a couple of simple heuristics to sort out false positives. Eyes must be on approximately the same level and must not overlap. From there it's a simple question of cropping and saving the image.
The classifier recognizing fan art is mostly a consequence of how Intel trained their eye classifier. If I wanted to be
really precise and increase detection rate, I would train the classifier myself to recognize Clem's eyes
specifically. Heck, I could train a classifier that looked for Clem lookalikes in real-time based on security camera footage or something. Machine learning is a really interesting field, at least to me.
