>One could argue Lilly pulled the trigger on accident in the heat of the moment

She kills Doug on accident but not because of an accidental trigger pull, but because she wanted to shoot Ben. And if you have Carley with you, Lilly shoot her on purpose.

>Do you think he ever redeemed himself for his previous failures?

No, but I think he could've if he lived longer.

>>25874

The model was made for the sole purpose of making porn, so of course there was going to be a flood of it when it first came out. Now that it's been more than a year think(?) it's died down. There'll be a flood of it again once the DLC comes out, as peoples interest in the games will be reinvigorated.

>>25875

>What do you do with a person like that?

It's hard for me to kill a person who, despite being a detriment, isn't maliciously intentioned. If it got to the point where they continued to be detrimental, and did nothing to improve themselves, the most I'd do is abandon them. Because I don't want to kill them, but I can't have them around ether.

Huh, I suppose my memory about the RV incident is a little fuzzy. I guess I never really got the impression that Lilly actually wanted to kill someone.

>the most I'd do is abandon them

But that could be a fate worse than death in TWD. And it could be a massive risk, like Roberto. What do you think Clementine would do if faced with that choice?

>What do you think Clementine would do if faced with that choice?

S2 kind of fucked up her characterization but I don't think Clem would willingly abandon anyone and I seriously don't see her executing someone. It may be to her detriment but I think she'd try keep that person in her group until they either proved themselves or she thought she could drop them off in a relatively safe place.

 No.25888

>And it could be a massive risk, like Roberto

Perhaps, but someone like Ben would be a detriment to whatever group he'd join or die before becoming a threat to us. I don't think Clem would abandon anybody, but if she did, she would leave them with some supplies so it wouldn't be leaving them to die.

>>25886

Good night anon, sleep well.

>>25887

>S2 kind of fucked up her characterization

What's baffling to me about this is that they got her character right in episode 1. What the fuck happened from episode 2 on that caused them to get it so wrong? Do you think it's because Telltale listened to their fanbase, and took the "badass Clementine" memes way too far and seriously?

 No.25889

>>25888

>Do you think it's because Telltale listened to their fanbase, and took the "badass Clementine" memes way too far and seriously?

I think there's more to it than that. I'm not 100% sure (unless we saw what was going at Telltale during S2's development we'll never truly know) but I think it comes down to two things: one, the bad and inconsistent writing that resulted from having too many weak writers on the project. Clem wasn't the only one afflicted with inconsistent characterization and the overall "plot" was affected by this as well.

Two, I don't think the S2 team had any real idea what to do with Clem's character. S2 only seemed to exist because it "had to" follow up on the success of the first game and judging from interviews the writers are just winging it when it comes to Clem's overall story. It kind of explains the whole #MyClementine meme and the writers' reliance on letting the player "define" Clem's character by making her a sock puppet rather than actually making her fully fleshed out person. This worries me more than anything else and can only hope the trend doesn't continue. I honestly might jump ship otherwise.

 No.25890

>>25889

>I honestly might jump ship otherwise

Same. Clem continuing to be a canvas we paint our personality on is what'll cause me to quit the series. I don't want #MyClementine, I want Clementine.

 No.25891

>>25890

To be fair to Telltale, I don't think they're going to let the player truly mold and define Clem's character that would require too much work. I think it more likely they're going to continue to give her a fairly bland characterization so she could "realistically" continue to make really inconsistent dialogue choices and decisions and then use a multiple ending choice to decide her fate/arc . Basically similar to what they did with S2.

Again, I don't want this happen and I think there's better ways of doing the whole "define Clem's character" thing TTG is trying to go for but I'd rather they decide themselves what Clem's arc is going to be and make a story around that.

It's okay to make us feel sorry for Clem, but not all the damn time. It fucking sucks living in the ZA and one of the best ways of getting that across is breaking our hearts by putting her in shitty situations. I agree that it's overplayed, though. In S1 there were times when Clem was happy and sad, and our attention was only brought to that fact during selected moments like in the Savannah house.

>>25898

I feel the Forresters are a little different since it's not a singular character, and everyone in House Forrester has their own way of dealing. The desperate situation really made it tempting to forge the letter as Mira and made me really want to get the conversation with Elaena right, for example. With Clem, it's just "Damn, that sucks. I'm sorry you had to go through that." There's nothing else playing into it. If it was phrased in a way that this suffering was a necessary evil, by benefiting AJ or something, then maybe we wouldn't be so sick of it.

 No.25901

>>25900

You're right, anon. I think the straw that broke the camel's back, at least for me, is when Ep. 5hype started to build and players were tweeting how sad the finale made them feel.

Nevermind TTG failing to let the game itself illicit emotion. They had to have people tell us that more sad shit's gonna happen. Same thing with the "Oh My Darling Clementine" thing, though I actually liked that teaser

Clementonia update. Clem's kingdom now reaches the Portuguese coast and the Strait of Gibraltar. We are finally fighting the French King Henri to install Clem's daughter's husband Nicolas on the throne Aquitania (making up most of the southern half of France). The Everett family has also been getting in the business of bringing Iberia under Clem's righteous rule: her husband, now the Duke of Aragon, conquered the Jimena-controlled lands of Navarra piecemeal and her son, Duke Doug of Granada, is delivering the final blow to the Abbadids. Clementine, now approaching 60, has changed succession laws so her daughter Diana will ascend the throne, setting the next step for the kingdoms of Catalonia, France, and Aquitania to be brought under her granddaughter's rule. We likely won't be able to control all of Iberia before Clem passes but we just might be able to create a new empire title. We just need to accrue a little more prestige and money.

>>25902

In the mean time, Clementine has also been keeping her house in order. She has the Family focus meaning she'll try to keep relations between family members high. To be honest I don't like it much since this is the only unique event from it I ever see and it's pretty bland. A brief descriptive anecdote would be better. The bonuses are useful at least.

How do you think an adult Clem would try to repair bad relations between members of her group or family?

 No.25904

>>25902

Seeing Clementonia, and by extension Catalonia, spread its influence so far brings a tear to my eye. I just found out today that there are several theories that Christopher Columbus may have been Catalan.

>Duke Doug of Granada

I don't know why I found this so funny.

What's a good way of getting money?

>>25903

That does seem a little boring.

Clem seems like the type that would try to start a dialogue about familial issues, and just talk openly to resolve the problem. There's no sense in beating around the bush.

 No.25905

>>25904

>What's a good way of getting money?

Usually I'd take a loan from the Jewish community but I actually owe them right now. I'd request cash from the pope in exchange for piety (which I have a ton of thanks to all those holy wars) but the last pope ruined his realm's finances on a failed crusade. So I pretty much have to rely on my monthly vassal tax which is actually really good right now, and loot from successfully sieging French castles.

>That does seem a little boring.

It is. This is a game where Satan can cuck you and leave you with the Antichrist as your heir and your lesbian wives can commit suicide by riding off a cliff together.

Can you take a loan from the Jews, and then just expel them? That seems like something you could pull in a GS game.

>Satan can cuck you and leave you with the Antichrist as your heir and your lesbian wives can commit suicide by riding off a cliff together.

What.

Also, this view of Mr. Foster from behind with the bowler hat sorta reminded me of Fiona. It's kind of a stretch though.

 No.25908

>>25906

What do you mean by "gameplay" segment? How would that even work?

I could actually imagine a really fast-paced dialog segment though. Just an intense barrage of dialog options. I'm surprised TTG hasn't tried something like that, it would be a pretty good way of gamifying the lowly dialog option. What do you guys think?

Food for thought.

Good night for now /ttgg/.

>>25907

It's an option but I always roleplay my characters a little in this game and I don't feel like that's something my medieval Clem would do. Plus I'd lose prestige which I need to create my new empire title.

>What

There's an event tree where two of your wives bang and decide they like each better than you. Chasing them results in pic related. CK2 has the best events. I've never gotten the Antichrist event tree unfortunately.

Unique random events have been weirdly and disappointingly sparse this playthrough. The only interesting ones that fired are Clem hooking up with and grooming her hot bodyguard and getting and raising her puppy if you don't count all the failed hunts. That all happened when she was in her late teens and twenties. I just checked and I saw her husband has the 'Gates of Hell' flag which is a great event tree but we can only see it if Clem has it.

>Mr. Foster

I actually immediately thought of Fiona when I saw that image.

>>25908

I actually did mean dialogue segment but my brain was being stupid. That does sound interesting but I could see people complaining about the dialogue options coming too fast. I guess that would depend on how it was handled though. Good night.

Thread died again. Since we briefly talked about Clem's character yesterday, I guess I might as well bring up this conversation from old /ttgg/. I think it describes perfectly how it feels to witness Clementine's change from season 1 into season 2.

 No.25913

>>25910

>It's an option

I didn't want you to do it, but it's pretty funny that you can. In a non-anti-Semitic way, of course.

>I could see people complaining about the dialogue options coming too fast

That would be a lame excuse. The pause function exists, people could just use that.

I think quick choices are among the most fun, since they force you to weigh your options very quickly and sometimes leave you regretting a decision. A whole segment of that would be a huge overload, but in a good way. It might fit a game like TftB best, perhaps as a quarrel between Fiona and Sasha. It wouldn't even have to affect much, it would just have to be fun to play and maybe even funny.

>>25912

This is something IRL that bothers me. I find it really sad that parents get separated and subject the kid to such a life. It's hard for me to believe that two people that had a kid together can't find it within themselves to get along for the sake of that kid and seems pretty selfish.

Perhaps I'm just being naive.

Also, that thing about hating the tree house ticked me off. It's like they wrote that line just for kicks. I suppose Clementine may think the tree house is kinda lame, but she clearly doesn't hate it. It even shows up in her flashback with the raccoon. And don't say it brings back bad memories of the ZA, because she was hiding in it when Lee showed up. If things like that bothered her, she would've ditched the bloody hat, the photo, etc.

 No.25914

>>25913

>that thing about hating the tree house ticked me off.

I feel like it was supposed to be played for laughs. The delivery of the line, the delay before she says it, made it seem like it was supposed to be funny. But I don't think anyone laughed at it, and in fact most people seemed to think it was out of character for her.

 No.25915

>>25914

Well, she was hiding up in there for a few days. She probably grew to hate it in that time.

 No.25916

>>25914

You mean funny in the way that she shut Luke down? I certainly didn't get that impression. Even if the delivery was a little better, I still don't think I would've understood that. The line, "I've done this before, remember? In a shed…" accomplishes something similar, is actually somewhat humorous, makes sense in context, and doesn't ruin a little piece of Clem's character in the process.

>>25915

She might have hated that situation, but she would still have good fond memories of it. That would be like saying she hated the Marsh house because of the Stranger. She still had a good time during her family vacations there. If they truly wanted to go that route, she should have said something along the lines of "I had a tree house once… I'd rather not think about it."

 No.25917

>>25912

The game does at least punish you for expelling Jews out of your realm and they eventually come back.

>It's hard for me to believe that two people that had a kid together can't find it within themselves to get along for the sake of that kid and seems pretty selfish

Speaking as a someone who's parents got separated yeah it sucks but it also sucks living under a shitty unstable marriage. Some marriages just can't be fixed and their continuation can create terrible situations at home.

>>25915

Even so that line still felt … fanfiction-y? Like the writer pulled it out his ass. It's a minor issue but in hindsight it seems symptomatic of the way S2 Clem was written.

It's really early to be speculating this but what do you think the plot of S3 will be about?

 No.25918

 No.25919

>>25917

With season 2's multiple endings it's hard to say what season 3 will be about. We'll get a clearer idea once the DLC is out. I do have some ideas for what season 3 could be like, for example, multiple protagonists based on what ending you got.

 No.25920

>tfw I dropped HBO's Game of Thrones today

Feels bad, but it's for the best, my autism just can't take it anymore.

>>25911

It's a Thelma and Louise reference, I think.

>>25913

Being a child of divorced parents beats being a child of married parents who hate each other all day, every day. Sometimes divorce is for the best. Especially if the parents are mature about it.

>>25912

The change is too fucking jarring. I get that 16 months is very long time for someone so young, but she's almost unrecognizable. I think that her character would have been better off if she wasn't the protagonist. The development just didn't feel organic at all.

 No.25921

>>25920

Unless S1 had a different ending, there's no way she couldn't have been the protagonist. Either you'd have to play as a different surviving character such as Christa and Omid, who not only have their own set characters but some players don't like them and wouldn't want to play as them OR play as a new character, which wouldn't work as you will know the ins and outs of what happened to Clem before the new character would actually meet her, so you can see why it's not an option for Telltale.

TL;DR Telltale wrote themselves into a corner

 No.25922

>>25921

Yeah. I suppose there's a more elegant solution than having a different protagnoist. Take Lee for example, he had a set personality, what you could influence was his set of values and how he deals with others. The same could have been done with Clem. Also, the game decided to ignore her age way too quickly. It's really awkward watching an eleven year old knock down doors and being asked for advice and leadership by adults.

 No.25923

>>25917

>what do you think the plot of S3 will be about?

Well, if the DLC does what many of us are expecting and ties up S2's endings, my best guess is that it will at least start at Wellington. From there, it could tackle a variety of issues of a large community like social/political unrest, disease, rivalry with another community, etc. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Wellington eventually fell. Perhaps it's already in its death throes at the end of S2, it's just not plainly visible.

If they go this route, I at least hope TT will have the decency to make Wellington last several episodes. TWD doesn't always have to be about nomadic groups, some of the best bits of the TV show are at the prison.

>>25920

Has the show really gotten that bad? Or is it just because you're a stickler for the books?

>The change is too fucking jarring

I suppose I'm in the minority here when I say that if it was toned down a little, and we got some more backstory with Christa about the things Clem might've been put through to make her that way, I might have been okay with it. The timeskip is what makes it so jarring, and it just feels lazy.

I don't think another protagonist would have helped. A big problem I think is that the S2 team looked at the story and thought things needed to happen one after the other. Get to Howe's? Okay, now we gotta get out. Rob Arvo? He comes back with his friends immediately after, no time for insecurity and fear to brew among the group. S1 took place over several months but it never lessened the impact of events that did happen. What if instead of a big timeskip with Christa, we got a gradual series of smaller timeskips, with important, playable events interspersed that helped characterize Clem? Would that feel too disjointed?

I guess you two are right about the divorce thing. I just wish it wasn't so commonplace.

 No.25924

>>25921

I'm saying this now because we got a season 2 where Clem is the protagonist and it sucks, but I think season 2 could've worked with someone else as the protagonist. I'll explain once we're in the new thread.

>>25923

>What if instead of a big timeskip with Christa, we got a gradual series of smaller timeskips, with important, playable events interspersed that helped characterize Clem?

I think that would be preferable, even if it did feel disjointed. Hell maybe it could've worked if the entirety of the season was not one continuous narrative, but rather the sporadic telling of important events in Clem's life. It would be incredibly limited of course because they can't go past the comic in timeline, but it still could've been better than what we got.

 No.25925

>>25923

>Has the show really gotten that bad? Or is it just because you're a stickler for the books?

Bit of both. Jaime randomly raping Cersei after his redemption arc last season almost made me quit, but the episode that's coming up tonight finally did it for me. It's out of character, it's gratuitous and edgy as fuck… you'll probably see soon enough.

>The timeskip is what makes it so jarring, and it just feels lazy.

I agree, the timeskip was a huge issue. And as you said, the fast pace of S2 didn't help at all. The multiple time skips idea could work, provided that there was enough time to develop the characters and relationships between those time skips. Then again, S2's story might have worked too if they gave us enough time and interactions between the events.

Anyway, I feel like I'm not making much sense anymore, so I'm going to bed. Have fun.

One neat thing about S1 is that the amount of time between each consecutive episode was shortened as a way of gradually ramping up the pacing and tension. It's part of what made the ending of episode 4 and and beginning of episode 5 so goddamn tense.

Ep.1 - Ep.2 = three months

Ep.2 - Ep.3 = couple weeks

Ep.3 - Ep.4 = less than 24 hours

Ep.4 - Ep.5 = immediately

Compare that to S2 where almost every episode ends on a sudden cliffhanger and begins in media res. The pacing was janky as hell and got especially awkward at the beginning of episode 4.

>What if instead of a big timeskip with Christa, we got a gradual series of smaller timeskips, with important, playable events interspersed that helped characterize Clem? Would that feel too disjointed?

That would've been interesting. Like we spend the first half of the season playing as little Clem and watch her slowly become the hardboiled S2 Clem, giving her an actual arc. I actually wanted all future seasons to do something like this until Clem became an adult but of course that's impossible with the time constraint.

>I'm still baffled by the people who think we're going to play as Christa in S3.

Where did you read this? TTGF?
