 No.27794

I'm going to use this moment of deadness to absentmindedly point out that Arvo tells you to take anything but his medicine when the choice to rob him comes up.

 No.27795

I commented before that telltale did a good job of making you hate the villains in GOT, however the villains in season 2 are also easy to hate, but I wouldn't say they did a good job of it in this instance. Why is this? I think it's because, like the rest of season 2's cast, the villains are extremely bland and one dimensional. The villains in GOT feel like actual characters in the story while the villains in season 2 feel like they only exist so you can hate them.

I'm a clemposter and I found the tummy rubbing greentexts creepy as all fuck, especially after they got transparently lewd.

>>27795

Carver was a pretty ominous and intriguing character before the third episode. How would you have made him an actually interesting antagonist rather than just a mustache twirler?

 No.27797

>>27796

I think Carver should've been a more ambiguous villain. Killing Reggie just because he couldn't cut some berries right was a bad example of killing off the incompetent in order to keep the group safe. I also think he should've lived longer, remaining the villain until the last episode.

Also I posted this idea a few threads back, but nobody replied. What do you guys think of the idea of Carver trying to get Kenny to join his side after noticing that his group treats him badly despite all he does for them?

 No.27798

>>27794

And if you don't take anything, he sics his group on you anyway! So, Arvo is just an asshole.

 No.27799

>>27798

The thing is, even if you don't steal the medicine Jane still takes his pistol, but he said take anything you want but not the medicine. And then when he has his group try to rob you, he blames Clem for what Jane did. So yeah, fuck Arvo.

 No.27800

>>27797

Carver would find Kenny way too contentious and unpredictable to be reliable. Plus he already tried to do this do with Clem for whatever reason.

>his group treats him badly despite all he does for them

Not too start another Kenny argument, but as someone who liked him and got his ending this is incredibly skewed thinking and ignores his faults and his mistakes. The things that make him interesting.

>>27799

Honestly I kind of find hard to genuinely hate Arvo when he's transparently a plot device rather than a character with realistic motives. His actions make me more pissed at the writers rather than him, although the Arvofags that defend him are pretty annoying..

Damn anon, that's some dedication you have. I'm not sure if I can go for another season after 3. Telltale's track record, and the recent reveal of the Michonne DLC, have made me completely unhopeful for season 3, and I hope it's the last one regardless of how it ends.

 No.27811

Oh nice, new TftB?

I assume it'll be out next Tuesday. That would be nice, it's the same day my visiting family leaves. It's killing me not being able to post or play games, so it'd be nice to play a brand new Tales episode then.

By the way, streaming works again. I'll announce a stream a day or two in advance sometime next week when I have time. In the meantime, I'm open to suggestions. I was thinking of resuming GoT season 5.

>What I liked about Season 2

I didn't hate Season 2 initially. I thought it was a bit underwhelming, but I didn't put any thought into why I thought it was bad. It's only through some analysis with you guys that I realized exactly why it was so underwhelming. Also, I only really play these kinds of games once or twice, so hearing exactly how much your choices don't matter was very revealing. If I had played it in a vacuum, I would not have realized how the game was lacking in that aspect.

As for what I liked about it, obviously Clementine's cuteness is one. But I believe I'm in a very small minority that liked her somewhat monotone voice, at least when she was with Christa. I think it was a good fit for the tone of that bit of the story, and would have liked if something lifted Clem's spirits and we started hearing some more emotion in her voice.

In a way, I kind of liked the more set-piece oriented bits of it. As much as we laud Season 1 for at least putting a few gameplay segments in, they were often half-baked and honestly not as good as they should have been. Of course, I would have preferred good gameplay segments instead of a complete lack of them.

I'll have to think about this a little more, I'm busy with family so it's taken nearly half an hour to even write this post.

 No.27819

>>27809

The choices didn't matter in season 1 yet nobody complains about it. If choices actually mattering makes or breaks the game for you then why do you play these games in the first place?

 No.27821

>>27818

I do wonder why her voice sounded so bored and sleepy most of the game. I kind of want to pin the blame on voice director or whoever picked which takes to put in because Melissa's definitely not a bad voice actress. Or maybe Melissa did have trouble emoting in S2 Clem's chosen voice?

>>27819

>The choices didn't matter in season 1 yet nobody complains about it.

They did in a way. It was the illusion of choice done well; your decisions, despite not changing the plot much, felt like they mattered because of how the characters reacted to them (especially Clem and Kenny) and the great writing in general. In S2 almost every choice was incredibly transparent (almost insultingly so in some cases) and had little effect on how characters reacted to you.

>>27820

Hmm, would you guys actually be interested in the Michonne game if it featured 400 Days characters or other supporting characters?

 No.27822

>>27821

So long as it's got some interesting characters I'm not bothered about a Michonne game in the slightest. Developing the 400 days characters would be nice.

Lilly too. And there was the whole Doug/Carley thing. While they didn't have a huge role in the story, they were still miles above Sarah and Nick in terms of how determinant characters are treated.

Being a total cunt in episode 1 and going out of your way to alienate everyone, only for them to act like you are the best of friends with them in episode 2 was one of the most jarring things in season 2. Kenny and Lilly actually remembered shit.

>Predictions for TFTB episode 4?*

Gonna be a major spotlight for Rhys. Through Jack he can basically control all of Helios and everything within. Rhys is going to be given the same badass treatment as Fiona in Ep3, and Jack's actions will depend on how we acted towards him. If we didn't trust him in Ep2 and Ep3, we're definitely getting betrayed. If we trusted him, I think he'll hold up his end of the bargain.

>Why do you think this episode is being released sooner than the others?*

Because

>Do you think this episode will be rushed?*

it's been rushed. Telltale's doing to Tales what they did to TWAU. Too many projects going on they need to finish or work on (GoT, Shitcraft, that superhero DC game), and they gotta crank Tales out the door rapidly.

Kenny couldn't protect his family, gave up on life (as well as Clem), and him latching onto that baby emotionally is pure stupidity. He also harmed Clem emotionally and physically and didn't even apologize.

Also he has one eye and potential brain damage. He's also impulsive and irrational. I don't trust this shitstain and I pray that he and AJ are both killed before they can drag down Clem and destroy what Lee fought so hard to protect.

But it's okay, I recognize that S2 was so shitty that your brains were scrambled by the return of a character from a good season and turned you into a mindless kenny cuck.

Neither of the posts you replied to made any mention of Jane. Nice try though Kenny cuck, my allegiance is not with any one character, I just hate Kenny.

 No.27833

>>27832

What do you mean "neither"? That entire greentext was about Jane, though I suppose yours doesn't.

Generally hatred of Kenny coincides with love of Jane.

I don't hate Jane, I hate idiots who thinks she's a good character and I hate Telltale for wasting her potential. "Waste of potential" pretty much applies to all of S2.

 No.27834

Thread is ded, so I might as well take the b8.

>>27828

>couldn't protect his family

Neither could Lee, Lilly, Larry, Christa, Jane, Molly, Vernon and literally every other character, it's the apocalypse, people tend to die.

Kenny made some mistakes regarding his family, he should have been with Duck during his last moments, but instead he went full denial mode and focused on being pragmatic. That doesn't mean that he is a bad person or that he didn't love his family. Dealing with the death of your own child is probably one of the hardest things you could ever deal with. Who knows how any of us would react. In any case, denying that shit has hit the fan and trying to help the kid by making sure he gets to the coast is far less selfish and unreasonable than blowing your brains out in front the said child, so he's the better parent by default.

>gave up on life (as well as Clem)

He got better. Good characters go through ups and downs, changes, evolution, devolution…They're dynamic. He was willing to die for Clem, and after taking a breather to grieve he was willing to live for her and AJ. Besides, Clem is absurdly competent. She survived as long as she did without him. She doesn't seem to need anyone to survive, certainly not anyone specific.

>and him latching onto that baby emotionally is pure stupidity

Emotions tend to be stupid, yes. However, taking care of the helpless is a moral and altruistic impulse and I admire him for it.

>He also harmed Clem emotionally and physically and didn't even apologize.

That's determinant, and I'm pretty sure he always apologizes if he was shit in episode 4 and even if he wasn't. And lashing out after the death of a loved one and hitting a kid by accident is still miles better than locking her up in a shed over night or shooting her and leaving her to her fate while you run off with the medical supplies, or shrugging off her being attacked by walkers. Kenny isn't an ideal caretaker by any means mind you, but goddamn do other people suck.

>Also he has one eye and potential brain damage.

That just makes him more vulnerable and thus hotter. Also he got that way protecting Clem.

>He's also impulsive and irrational.

Yes. Good characters have flaws. Still, he can also be very pragmatic from time to time. Meat locker scene and the bait girl are the proof of that. So despite the fact that he is a live wire, he isn't dumb.

Kenny is kind of a group killer. Lilly and Larry were the same way. Unless people around them are submissive, or on the same page as them, there are going to be problems. He is overly stubborn, emotional and can carry a grudge like a motherfucker. Still, he is also extremely loyal, protective, resilient, loves very deeply and has a pragmatic streak. He's an interesting character. It's a little wonder he is a favorite for many people.

 No.27836

>When you do expect TFTB episode 4 to be released?*

The 25th like others said.

>Predictions for TFTB episode 4?*

Jack taking control of Helios. Vallory getting killed or otherwise removed as a threat. A big fight scene between two loaderbots.

>Why do you think this episode is being released sooner than the others?*

1. They've probably been working on it around at the same time as episode 3.

2. They probably didn't have to work as hard on making new environments for Helios since they already have some made from episode one. I predict a shootout down the same hallway Rhys and Vaughn walk down in the prologue.

3. Telltale's trying get all their current projects done before Michonne and Minecraft come out this year.

>Do you think this episode will be rushed?*

Probably. Though all they really need to get right is the characters since the plot's already kind of a mess.

>>27818

>I didn't hate Season 2 initially.

>It's only through some analysis with you guys that I realized exactly why it was so underwhelming.

Same. I actually liked Season 2 so far when I first played it, but once I started hanging out here, I noticed just how flawed it was. With the exception of episode 5, I enjoyed each episode the first time I played it, but my opinions quickly changed once I started talking about it with you guys.

What would you have done to improve season 1's gameplay segments?

>>27819

>The choices didn't matter in season 1

They did to an extent. The changes in season 1, though minor, are actually noticeable. I'm still getting dialogue and scenes I never experienced before whenever I replay the game, which makes me feel like there was a considerable amount of effort put into it. With season 2, nothing changes in the story. You can play the game a completely different way from the way you did the first time, and more or less still get the same experience, the only choices the change anything are the ones that determine what ending you get.

>What do you mean by their 'track record'?

I'm mainly talking about how they always appeal to the majority when it comes to the writing. I don't know how much, if any influence the fanbase had on the writing back in season 1, but the fandom has a clear influence on the writing now and that's a problem, especially considering TWD's fans, and the fact that Telltale doesn't communicate with their fanbase anymore. With season 2's multiple endings and they way they were handled, I know my ending choice isn't going to matter, not because this is telltale we're talking about, but because I'm in the minority with my ending choice. Before anyone calls me a Kennyfag, this has nothing to do with liking or hating Kenny, this is about getting fucked over as a player, all because I didn't make a specific choice, a choice that the developers seemingly wanted me to make, based on the way the situation was framed, and how episode 5 was framed as a whole. I can envision a multitude of ways season 3 is going to suck for me, which is only one reason why I'm not looking forward to it.

>>27833

>I don't hate Jane, I hate idiots who thinks she's a good character and I hate Telltale for wasting her potential.

I'm not sure what you mean by potential, but I think this is why I don't hate Jane myself. I'm more angry with the writers for the ending situation than Jane, because it makes no sense for her to do what she did.

>>27834

You pretty much nailed it. It's funny how Kenny haters hate Kenny for things other characters have done, but not those other characters. There's also characters who have done more, and worse things than Kenny, yet Kenny is somehow the worst person in TWD.

 No.27838

The majority of people shot Kenny at the end of season 2.

Do you think this would have been different if the options had been [shoot Kenny] or [shoot Jane] instead of [shoot Kenny] or [look away]?

 No.27839

>>27838

I think it would change very little. With the way the situation was framed, it's designed to have you shoot Kenny. If it where [shoot Kenny] or [shoot Jane] and neither had an upper hand in the fight at the time the choice came up, I think at least some of the people who were tricked into shooting him wouldn't have. That's about it.

Well seeing as how I'm the one who brought it up, I might as well post some thought I developed recently. I think Kenny is meant to be the judge of your actions throughout the game. The stranger acts as a judge at the end of the game, but Kenny, I think, is the game's way of punishing the player for making bad decisions, while rewarding them for making good ones as they are going through the game. Of course I'm talking about season 1.

No, Clem is the moral heart and "judge" of the game. That's not an opinion, that's a core function of the story and narrative. Almost every major decision you make either involves, is influenced by, or is contextualized by her. If you make her happy or nurture her innocence and virtuousness you feel good for it. If she witnesses you doing something wrong or you upset her in some way, you feel like shit or even re-evaluate your choice. That's about as close as the game has to a reward/punishment system when it comes to moral choices. Kenny's role is to either become an ally or antagonist based on how much you agree with him. He judges you but he does it from his own biases which in all likeliness will not totally agree with. You're not supposed to appease him all the time and in fact you can be "punished" for agreeing with him on certain issues by making Clem upset with you.

I think you're right, I'm mostly basing these thoughts off of how people react to Kenny, as well as how he treats you. The people who don't like Kenny mostly do so because of how he treats you if you don't side with him, so to me, they're being punished for not agreeing with him. You're right about Kenny being a friend or for depending on how you treat him, but I feel like he's designed to be your best friend type of character, because not only is he more of a friend to you than anyone else you can side with in the season, but he's around for the whole game, and Lilly & Larry are assholes, especially Larry who's an asshole even if you're nice to him.

>Thursday 8PM EST

So I guess this means you'll be showing two episodes?

>How could TftB be improved?

Can't think of much really. More hubs perhaps, preferably of TWD season 1 quality. I also think that action sequences should play more like an actual game instead of still being just QTEs since this is a game based off of a series that was already a game to begin with.

 No.27895

>>27894

>two episodes

I didn't intend to, but I might do that.

>>27894

>More hubs

I'd say more in-depth hubs and/or puzzles that, as you said, play more like the series Tales is based on. I wouldn't mind a miniature "quest" of sorts given to you by an NPC to get some macguffin necessary to continue. You'd be free to do this quest while wandering around the hub world. I'd say Tales is almost a perfect fit for the more traditional adventure game formula that focuses on those kinds of little puzzles.

I suppose my primary hangup is that little "puzzle" to enter the secret Atlas facility was laughably easy. I mean, gimme a break. It's not like it was to help you get used to using the ECHO eye, since the bit with Vasquez already did that.

 No.27896

>>27895

>I wouldn't mind a miniature "quest" of sorts given to you by an NPC to get some macguffin necessary to continue.

I kinda feel like we had something like that in episode one with the Nakayama drive, except you find it even if you don't scan/observe him. Telltale should really make quests for items something that the player actually has to do in order to get them instead of the game giving it to you no matter what.

 No.27897

>>27893

>TftB is good, but not as good as it could be

> How could TftB be improved?

The plot is a mess and needs to be pruned and tightened. There's a few characters and storylines with no build up and seemingly no purpose and feel like the writers came up with on the spot. Vallory is a recent example and I think she should be written out while Vasquez remains on Helios as an all-seeing main villain with unlimited resources to exact revenge on Rhys.

Choices have also limited effect on your relationships with other characters so far. It doesn't matter if you sold out Vaughn or that you haven't forgiven him for "selling you out", Rhys is still BFFs with him regardless. Fiona's relationships with other characters are even more railroaded and the only character you can influence her opinion on is dead. The only relationship you can really change in a significant way is Rhys's with Jack and it looks like the endgame is going to come down to whether you trust him enough or not.

Rhys's relationship with Sasha feels rushed and poorly handled despite me liking the pairing and having spotting it way back in episode one. It's teased a bit that they're going to have major relationship and influence on each others arcs in the first episode, but then there's no interaction between them in two and they're suddenly having a schmaltzy romance scene in three. It feels like the writers missed an great opportunity to explore these characters, their relationship with each other, and Hyperion's effect on Pandorans in an interesting way and instead went for vapid fanservice. I can understand people feeling like the relationship is being forced on them because it's so sudden and has no proper build up.

Yeah, something like that, but that is more obviously stated. I can understand why TTG often just automatically gives you items like that; it's to reduce frustration and assuage the old use-every-item-on-every-usable-thing routine adventure games get stuck with. But I think if what you were looking for was very obvious (i.e. even part of a "quest"), that wouldn't be a problem. TWDS1's puzzles, while usually pretty simple, all followed this general idea: You very obviously need the fire axe at the motel, or the tools on the train. The instances where a lot of people got lost or confused were when this need was not well stated, like with the bits of spark plug.

>>27897

>plot is a mess

I will agree with you on most of those points, but I also think the idea of having more than one "villain" could work. There's no reason both Vallory and Vasquez couldn't be out to get you at the same time. Making more enemies like that would be an interesting plot element, and it would be funny if there was a subplot of Vasquez and Vallory stepping on each other's toes trying to kill you.

>choices

Yeah, that's pretty standard fare. It's a given with almost any TT game.

>Rhys's relationship with Sasha feels rushed

I'm fairly sure that relationship only really came up because of the biodome. They saw the opportunity to have the two walking around a beautiful environment, have him give her a flower, appease a huge part of the fanbase, and took it. I don't blame them.

You got it right. It's not hard to remember the name of the episode if you remember what happened.

>Yeah, that's pretty standard fare.

To be fair, there are somewhat different paths depending on certain choices, such as who you trusted at the end of episode 2. If you want to see everything episode 3 has to offer, you need to play both paths, and even then it can be easy to miss the changing booth in the biodome.

>It would be absolutely mind-blowing if Vaughn was somehow determinant and it stuck throughout the playthrough for once

Speaking of determinant characters, I had my little brother play Tales from the Borderlands and when he did, I found out from watching him play that Cassius lives even if you tell Athena to kill him. There better be a good reason for this, hopefully he still has an important role to play in the story and he'll die at a later point in time if you told her to kill him. Also, it reminded me that Rhys said in episode one that Gortys is bad news. I wonder what'll happen after she gets her final upgrade that causes Rhys to say this.

>>27943

For important characters, sure.

But it's a good question in terms of how the universe operates, i.e. how Rick or Clementine might answer that question of how many hours on average it takes a bitten person to die.

As far as we can tell, a bite kills you because it's a concoction of horrible pathogens that infect you in the traditional sense. So I suppose the best way to figure this out would be to ask, how long would it take an average person to die if they expose an bite-sized open wound to a lot of really nasty pathogens?

 No.27945

Well in season 1, Duck dies maybe… 10-12 hours after he's bitten. It's afternoon when he's bitten, and not until maybe morning that he dies. Hershel in the show seemed aware of this when the flu broke out at the prison, but nobody else ever mentions it. Clem suffers no ill effects from that dog bite, but I'll just take that as being plot armor like usual. Do you know if it plays a bigger role in the comics?

If a little cold or flu has the potential to kill you, you'd think TWD characters would start taking extra precautions. Maybe they'd start wearing surgical masks like you sometimes see Asians doing.

Also, I just thought of something.

To make this /ttgg/ related, how do you think children raised after the ZA would turn out, people that would have no memory of the pre-ZA world? What sort of morals and ideals would they hold? You mentioned books, might they try to do their best to restore some semblance of pre-ZA society that they know through literature or firsthand accounts, or start something new?

Anyway, I really liked this episode. Not much to say. Scooter is a legend, Jack is too, Yvette is a cunt, high jinks are fun, some choices matter and the consequences of them tend to specifically leave you Vaughnless for two episodes in a row now. Which is weird, but beats no consequences. Also Jack-a-pedia is still a great resource, and worth a replay if you don't have it.

My personal complaint is that Loader Bot took a backseat this episode, as did Vaughn, even if you have him with you. There's not a lot of time left for them to shine. It kind of feels like their arcs have been dropped, Vaughn's especially. Maybe it's just me though.

I got kind of a big sister vibe more than anything. A bit weak though.

>>28009

Can you actually rule Hyperion, or is it all just a ploy by Jack to regain power? I can't imagine it'd be any different regardless of your choice. That's just Jack's character, not Telltale's aversion to player choice.

>>28012

Anyone who didn't pick [Step Three] is a heartless monster.

>>28016

Hell yes, Catch-A-Ride is the best option.

BANE?

>>28029

Hey man, Scoots is real sweet. I'm sure he'd make a real nice boyfriend.

>>28041

>Why is most lewd SFM so awful

Because I'm not making it

Kidding. Not averse to trying it, though…

>>28046

>>28048

I really think they did kill off Scooter for good.

With the way things are going in the "mainline" Borderlands series, it seems all of their future games (if any) will take place before TftB. Jack is just too perfect of a villain to bother with anyone else like Rhys. So in the end, I don't think this game's canon will affect much.

>>28056

iktfb

I bet some people get off on it, though

>>28059

Are you sure? Maybe for a few of the first lines, but that impression was almost completely spot-on. A bit too good in my opinion.

Do you want me to give this a shot? I could try compressing it a bit better.

On another note, I used to do a little bit of papercraft. I wonder if I could figure out how to make these masks. Would probably need a semi-accurate 3D model first.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play.

>>28069

>Do you want me to give this a shot? I could try compressing it a bit better.

Sure. Embedded is the video I used. All of the other ones didn't have Fiona in the business outfit. Absolute heresy.

 No.28071

I'm a little worried about the final episode. How are they going wrap up the story being told to the masketta man so we're caught up to where Rhys gets captured and show what happens afterwards all in one episode?

 No.28072

>>28071

This also worries me. I was under the impression episode 4 would catch up to the present and then everything after would be without the frame story.

The annoying thing is they easily could have done it with like…ten more minutes. Rhys is exactly where he needs to be for the beginning of the game to happen. All that needed to happen then was for Fiona (and co?) to escape, Gortys to somehow be disassembled and fired back down to Pandora and that's pretty much it.

 No.28073

>>28072

They wanted episode 4 to end on a cliffhanger with the final choice. I also expected episode 4 to end at the "beginning" of the game.

 No.28074

I just started Episode 4 and I don't understand why Fiona and Sasha get so angry if you tell them about Handsome Jack. Maybe it's been too long since I played the first three episodes and I don't know Borderlands lore well enough?

 No.28075

>>28074

Well, he was the main villain of Borderlands 2. Also, they didn't like Rhys lying for so long I guess. They forget their anger pretty quickly, though.

 No.28076

>>28075

I figured as much. Better to get it out in the open. I also never played Borderlands 2, so I don't know how evil he really was. I just know that he's evil.

I'm at the Psycho Pizza Party part and I'm a little confused as to what Jack is talking about "what happened between us." It's been a while since I played. u_u;

>I'm a little confused as to what Jack is talking about "what happened between us."

I'm pretty sure he's talking about how you treated him if you didn't trust him at the end of episode 2 and/or you didn't agree to work with him in episode 3.

>I bet some people get off on it, though

I know exactly who you're talking about. I'm sure he'd love that scene.

>Do you want me to give this a shot?

Yeah, I was mostly asking for you to make it when I requested it.

A lot of people say Jack really is the "good guy" or at least an antihero. I'd be inclined to agree.

He was kind of a good guy who went insane and turned full evil.

Welp, I just finished Episode 4 of Tales. Can't say I'm shocked about Yvette. I kind of saw that coming. However, what the fuck went on with Sasha showing up at the end with Yvette? There's no way she'd sell out her own sister.

I also told Jack to go fuck himself as I have been for the whole series. I don't trust him one bit.

The episode was pretty hilarious and I enjoyed it. Except for what happened to Scooter. Catch a ride, buddy. ;_;7
