>Is there anything by Telltale you're actually looking forward to in 2016?*
I would've answered TWDG S3 but it's starting to look like we're going to have to wait another whole year. I don't care about Michonne or Batman.
>What are your overall expectations for Telltale in 2016?*
Pretty low. Michonne will probably aim to hit the same quality and style of the show which sounds boring, Batman's premise sounds like it'll be boring, and TWDG S3 will probably be a no show. I also just don't have faith in Telltale to tell great and entertaining stories anymore since the original TWDG (TftB seemed like an anomaly and even that suffered from some baffling decisions that kept it from being great).
>Was this a good year for /ttgg/?*
Mostly? This place went through couple phases this year, starting with that tension and drama early on. Then it quickly settled into a tight little community with a chill, friendly atmosphere that I actually enjoyed more than anonymous chaos of /ttgg/ during S2. A cozy place for a handful of regulars and occasional posters to hang out at, bitch about discuss Telltale, and funpost while we waited for new episodes. Then at some point during fall it got really quiet and regular conversations became almost nonexistent. I'm not really sure what happened.
>>30062
Christ, almost nothing here appeals to me.
>>30063
Yeah, Clementine represents what's left of the TWDG storyline at this point and TWDG is the main reason this place was created and why a bunch of us are still here. I don't see Michonne bringing in many of the old guys back except some new people who played it.

As far as their games are concerned? No. But I'm open to surprises. TftB was unexpectedly good.
>What are your overall expectations for Telltale in 2016?*
That they'll find a way to continue to destroy their TWD franchise. Thankfully, this means more shitposting with you guys, so it's a fair trade as far as I'm concerned.
>Was this a good year for /ttgg/?*
I can't say. I wasn't here too much, and when I was no one else was posting. I miss the chaos, the OC, and the fighting we had on /vg/. Natefag did make a visit this year, so /ttgg/'s 2015 was still okay in my book. :3

Me neither. But it might give us a hint as to how TWD S3 is going to go down. In retrospect, 400 Days should have been a warning for S2.

I might as well post some miscellaneous stuff in hopes it'll give people something to talk about.
So, Claptrap's appearance in TFTB makes sense in hindsight since we was already in Poker Night 2. I finally got to see Claptrap in TFTB when by little brother played and he chose the mystery vault hunter. He had played Borderlands 2 before so he knew who Claptrap was. He was honestly tolerably funny, his annoyingness is played for laughs and all the other characters hate him. Although how the other characters feel about him might hit a bit too close to home for the player in a meta sense. Claptrap has no idea what he's doing when controlling Gortys, he just shoots a bunch of explosives everywhere and most of them don't even hit The Traveler. I also found out that it's the episode 4 ending choice, not how you treat her, that affects whether or not Sasha hugs Rhys in episode 5.

Not 100% but it makes sense because she and Fiona never meet up with Rhys again in the president path, so it makes sense for her to think Rhys betrayed them. Also, I was nice to Sasha in my playthrough where I choose to be president.

1. MGS has gotten shit for it's long, elaborate cutscenes.
2. MGS games usually have an incredible amount of depth and complexity in their gameplay to counteract the cutscene length. MGSV has actually garnered complaints for not having enough cutscenes to break up and drive the gameplay. Recent Telltale games have little actual gameplay, most of the traditional point and click adventure aspects of earlier titles having been expunged over time.
3. MGS cutscenes are usually fun and engaging to watch because they're shot and directed with a strong, cinematic flair. Compare that to a lot of recent Telltale titles where most of the game is basic "shot reverse shot" dialogue scenes which are occasionally broken up setpieces, mimicking a TV show.
No.30087
>>30085
MGS, especially starting with 2, are mostly dialogue and cutscenes. If you separate the cutscenes from the gameplay, they're very short games. I don't think you should skip the cutscenes in MGS games, because you need to play them for both the story and the gameplay. But still, there's most cutscene time than gameplay time.
And for the record, I wasn't trying to say that MGS isn't a game, I've played MGS4, and you can fail most QTEs in most modern TT games.
>>30086
>Recent Telltale games have little actual gameplay, most of the traditional point and click adventure aspects of earlier titles having been expunged over time.
Yup. This has to do with telltale not wanting to do much with hubs anymore since season 1 of TWD showed that most people didn't bother with doing things in them. They also wanted to alleviate the "problem" of people not being able to progress through the story because of a puzzle they can't solve.
>most of the game is basic "shot reverse shot" dialogue scenes which are occasionally broken up setpieces, mimicking a TV show.
I agree, the cutscenes in MGS games are better directed and I'm sure that has to do with Hidya Kojima wanting to be a movie director before he started making video games. Telltale is trying to compete with television so their mimicking it rather than trying to be better.

I haven't played 2 but I can safely say this isn't true of 3, Peace Walker, and V. Even the gameplay/cutscene ratio in 1 is pretty balanced and the line between the two is sometimes blurred in memorable ways (the Psycho Mantis boss fight, the torture scene, etc.) Really it's just 4 that has the dubious reputation of being the "movie game" of the series, for a number of reasons beyond the absurd amount of hours of cinematics compared to gameplay.
>This has to do with telltale not wanting to do much with hubs anymore since season 1 of TWD showed that most people didn't bother with doing things in them
Aren't there hubs in Minecraft? Are they actually interesting to walk around in or are they just an afterthought like in TWDG S2?

I'd say they're caught in an awkward middle-ground where they're better than TWDS2, but they're still filler compared to TWDS1. Episode one ends with an actual puzzle that can take awhile to complete, and episode 4 has you navigate through a maze while walking atop of it's walls. Also, something I forgot to mention in the last thread was that one of the things Minecraft does right is giving you an inventory that's actually worth a damn since you can use things in your inventory to craft things at certain points of the game, and one of episode four's major choices is which weapon you crafted.

Jesus Christ we're in desperate need of something to talk about. Okay so I played Poker Night 2 while I was away, and in it you can unlock new decks, felts, and chips by buying them with the tokens you earn by playing. When you activate all of these items of the same set together, the look of the whole Inventory changes according to what set you have equipped. Digging through the games files, I found that originally there were supposed to be sets for TWD and Fables. Having full sets equipped also has exclusive dialogue happen based off of the things that happen only when a full set is equipped. I found dialogue for these TWD and Fables sets, they have to do with things like names of zombies, and who would you want as a partner in the zombie apocalypse. No audio files though, as these conversations were apparently cut early enough in the game's development cycle that the voice actors didn't get a chance to record these lines.

Just some light theorizing. Vanaman recently said that he was surprised to see TWD's dialogue system had become the TellTale norm. The first game to come after TWD was TWAU, which was announced and initially show in screenshots a very long time before the first episode was released. They also gave TWAU an on screen interface showing your inventory, something that's never given any use.
My "theory" is that TWAU was originally going to be a traditional adventure game with more of an emphasis on item gathering, puzzles, and etc. but changed into a TWD style interactive story after its massive success. This could also explain the huge gaps between announcement and release, and episodes one and two; all because of retooling the story to better fit the new "mold".
Just an idea that came to me after thinking about his comments.
Anyway, Firewatch release info (namely pricing) is coming this Tuesday, then it's out the following week. Finally.

I do wonder how replayable it is. I've been avoiding info as much as I can but, IIRC, they watched what playtesters would do, then write and record dialogue to account for it. And your relationship with Cissy Jones' character will change according to the dialogue you pick. Should be worth playing through twice but I don't know how much there will be to discuss.
TellTale's twitter says Michonne "is premiering soon", whatever that means. Maybe that'll get people to try to find out what the status of /ttgg/ is and come back home.

Fuck it, I don't care if there's noone here. I want to talk about Life is Strange and Until Dawn because I played them recently and want to see what others think. I'd like to start off by saying that I think Until Dawn and Life is Strange both do the Telltale formula better than telltale does. I also like how Life is Strange's episodes are longer than telltale's. Hell I think Life is Strange's longest episodes are longer or as long as TWDS1's longest episodes. The twist at the end of episode 4 doesn't really make sense and even though an explanation is given for it, it seems kinda flimsy to me. I also didn't like how you can choose which ending you get regardless of your choices. That was one of the many problems with TWDS2, and with Mira's plotline in GOT. I was told that Until Dawn was mostly QTEs, but it was actually mostly parts where you walk around and look at things in the environment. So basically, the opposite of a telltale game in terms of how much "actual gameplay" there is. I think the twist in Until Dawn is better than Life is Strange too. Well, I think Until Dawn is the better game between the two overall. They're not perfect, but I think telltale could learn a lot from these games.

Sadly, the sheer stupidity of the plot ruined what potential the game had. Also, the whole experience hinged on how much you liked Chloe who was extremely divisive for at least the first three episode. I did, but had I not, then I don't think I'd be able to enjoy the game for one second. Also, while I do appreciate puzzles, most of them were just uncreative filler.
It always really annoys me when a story and choice based game ends up having a shit story and irrelevant choices.
Until Dawn was pretty good. It had some plot wholes too, but none of them were story ruining. QTEs weren't as obnoxious as you would think, and they actually had consequences for the characters, which is rare to see. It conforms what I always suspected, the main issue with David Cage's games is David Cage. Also Josh is a qt.

Until Dawn had better characters I think, though I disliked the "don't move" QTEs. Also, Josh did nothing wrong!

Maybe it's a bit harsh. I guess that at least TWDS2's ending made me feel validated and good, which kind of redeemed it, while LiS ending was cliche and pure nonsense, to the point where it ruined episode 4 because it no longer made sense. All the flaws I ignored up to that point were no longer excusable. It's all subjective of course.

That's certainly a part of it.
>She tells Chris to shoot her, but when he does she gets upset to the point of murder, to me this indicates that she was lying and being manipulative, playing selfless so that Chris would think of her as worthy of dying for.
>When he dies, it's not as if she just ran away and abandoned him fearing for her safety, she stands there, waits for the wendigo to come and watches as it tears Chris apart.
>She has no problem with kicking Em out to be eaten by wendigos when she thinks that having Em around is dangerous for her own safety. It's hard to fault her too much for this, it's natural to care about your own ass first, but at least show some conflict like Chris and Mike did.
>She has the option to conceal vital information to cover her ass. I know it's just an option, but the fact that she considers it speaks of her character. Other characters also have options to do morally questionable shit too, but in their case it's almost always in what is, or what is perceived to be, a life or death situation. With Ash, it's pretty casual.
>She has the option to ignore what she believes is Jessica calling for help, and when she does, she never tells the group what she heard. She basically chooses to leave Jess to die and doesn't seem to be torn up about it.
>When she shows remorse over the prank, her charitability meter goes up, but her honesty meter goes down, indicating that she doesn't actually feel remorseful.
She's secretly the biggest cunt in the game.

The game has potential…does some interesting things…then squanders it.
The "mystery" resolution is lame and loaded with plotholes.
The arguable point of the game, the relationship between Henry and Delilah, however you progress it, ends on a strange note that doesn't in any way reflect the growth over the game, and is the same no matter how you've acted throughout the game.
Finally, the protagonist has no growth or resolution to his central conflicts either.
Honestly, I feel like they just didn't even know how to write this and just kind of ended it, tying up the loose ends clumsily.

Finished Firewatch in one sitting last night. Took me about five hours, but I explored every inch of the game. Left with mixed feelings. I think the H/D relationship and interactions were great, thanks to the fantastic writing and performances. The art is pretty and the set-up for the story is really cool.
On the other hand (I'll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible) while I think the reveal of what was actually going on was an interesting idea, the execution felt sloppy. And I hate that the game ends without addressing H/D's relationship, personal problems, or potential future. It just ends.
As it is, it's a cool little suspense story that falls flat. It also has some really bad technical issues, probably they're a tiny dev using a very unoptimized engine. I enjoyed my time with it but it's a hard game to recommend. It feels like the game they ended up with is a condensed version of what they planned to make. Hopefully it does well enough that they can't make another, better game.
As for Michonne, I'll wait and see what /ttgg/ thinks. I'm solely a game TWD fan so my interest in it is pretty low.

What do you guys think of this explanation?

I'm talking about how he stays behind after he shoots him contradicting his speech about not giving up and keep going even when things get tough. When he saves Christa, okay, he can't get back up, it's understandable that he would "die" there. But with Ben, there's no reason for him to stay behind after seeing that Ben can't be saved.

But he doesn't leave with Lee's group, he more or less just allows himself to get eaten by walkers when there's no reason to. Obviously now we know he survived the encounter, but prior to season 2 it seems like he's committing suicide through letting himself get eaten.

Oh, I know. Season 2 already has characters that are just complete assholes with no redeemable qualities whatsoever. What I want to know is, could Telltale create a character that's so irredeemable that even Kenny haters prefer Kenny over that character? I honestly don't think so. Not because it's not within telltale's ability to do so, but because Kenny haters hate him so much that they'd rather have anyone other than him around no matter who it is.

That first "major" decision has to to be the best (worst?) example of a non-choice I've seen in a Telltale game in a long while. A "choice" to kill the protagonist at the start of the story? I'm honestly not surprised. I watched a playthrough of it myself. It starts off incredibly boring and then it begins to feel like a retread of season 2's plot involving an authoritarian tyrannical dickhead. Randall is pretty much just Carver and I also noticed the blatant reuse of assets from previous games. The peach can from season 2, Logan's locker from season 1, and I'm pretty sure the toy robot is the Cthonic Destroyer from Sam & Max. I also find Michonne's reactions to remembering her dead kids to be painfully over the top and hard to take seriously. Also,
>three week time skip
>another character named Pete
>cheesy cinematic intro with licensed music
>"next time on" segment ends with Michonne about to hit someone with a hammer in a shed
I told you telltale hasn't learned from season 2.

I love Clem to bits, especially her S1 incarnation, but I'm deliberately keeping myself from being too invested in future seasons about her as long as she's in modern Telltale's hands. Not to say I wouldn't love more Clemposting and OC for her though. I feel like if anyone's going be able to do her justice at this point it's going to be her fans.

>I just got a 7 day ban for "off topic posting" on literally the only thread on 4chan I post on
May I ask what thread? I saw a thread on /qa/ complaining about janitors on /vg/, and skimming over the thread, it looks like the same asshole who ruined /ttgg/ on 4chan is now doing the same to /lisg/.
>the draw of TWD for me is the characters and their relationships.
That's why I'm asking. If zombies aren't the focus of TWD then why not just go the extra mile and get rid of the zombies altogether?
No.30311
>>30310
I guess zombies are a good tension-source considering they can be loud of noticable or stealthy depending on what the setting or plot requires. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head that can have it's own laws and rules bend to the plot like that and have it still be horror.
No.30312
>>30310
It was /dag/, which has had issues with strange deletions (for a period, any image or discussion on a specific character being deleted) and rampant (actual, disruptive) shitposting going unpunished in the past. It wouldn't surprise me if the board's janitorial staff is fucked.
The zombies are just a plot device to throw the characters into tense situations. Not unlike how LiS isn't really about time travel. These elements aren't the focus, but the stories wouldn't work as well without them.
No.30313
>>30312
>LiS
Some would say that an explanation isn't needed for everything, but there are plotholes present in that game because of a lack of an explanation for Max's time traveling abilities. Would you say the same is true for the lack of an explanation for zombies in TWD?
No.30314
>>30312
Didn't /dag/ get combined with /meg/? What characters were getting targeted? I posted there for a little while it was pretty fun.
No.30315
>>30313
Well, zombies are a simpler and easier concept to write than time travel is. Max's "journey" is interesting enough that it's easy for most people would be willing to overlook plotholes related to the fantastical elements. On thd other hand, while Remember Me had some interesting concepts and characters, Nilin does some incredibly morally questionable things that the game just ignores, to a level that wasn't ignorable.
Additionally, zombies, time teavel, etc. make these stories more appealing, at least initially. Like, I've seen a bunch of people clamoring for a Mass Effect adventure game where you'd play as a C-Sec officer solving crimes. Those people would probably not be interested in the same hypothetical game set in the real world.
>>30314
This was a while back now but it was Blackwall. There was some annoying shitposts and bad memes surrounding him but even regular posts zbout him or his story would be deleted.
/meg/, being the tiny, insular community is, wasn't open to merging. Instead /dag/ became /dag/+/bwg/ (BioWare General) to placate both the people that wanted one BioWare thread and also those on /dag/ that didn't want to merge with /meg/.

That's kind of a broad question so I'll just spitball some random ideas.
1. A well-written coming of age story
2. A main conflict that challenges Clementine's morals and humanity and the relationships she builds; a conflict that DOESN'T revolve around Clem having to choose to completely submit to one asshole or the other
3. An compelling and believable cast of supporting characters that isn't pointlessly killed of. And make for prime waifu/husbando material
4. A deuteragonist that serves as an anchor, primary relationship, and motivator for Clementine, similar to the role she fulfilled for Lee in S1. Maybe someone closer to her age rather than an adult
5. Puzzles and other mechanics that emphasize and make use of Clem's small size, dexterity, and intelligence
6. Clementine's feelings and psyche actually explored in depth and handled intelligently; not having her pointlessly tortured and subsequently ignored
So basically TWDGS1 but better and about Clementine. I'll post more ideas when I think of them.
No.30317

The zombies are the catalyst, remove them and you'd need to come up with something else. I'd say ultimately it'd be a bad decision because the zombies provide an everpresent threat to the survivor's that serve to push them into different situations.

This has been circling my head for a while, but did anyone else feel the friendship between Mira and Sera was lacking?
I don't know why, but I had a level of investment and could believe Asher and Beskha were friends or Rodrik and Elaena used to be romantically involved or that Rhys and Vaughn were bros, but I was never convinced that Sera was Mira's friend. Yeah, it turns out that Sera's a bitch later on , but even at the beginning, I wasn't invested for some reason and I don't know why.
I mean, her actions are 'a bit' selfish, but I could empathize and even sympathize with her situation. I just didn't feel as much investment in her story as I did, say, Beskha's.
What do you think?
No.30319
>>30318
To me, it felt like a totally fake political "friendship". But I don't know if that's what they were intending. If they wanted their friendship to be believable and genuine, they failed.
I actually took every opportunity I had to betray her and doing so really improved Mira's scenes for me.
No.30320
>>30318
I think they were conflicted. She was supposed to be a tool for Mira to express her morality/loyalty, or lack there of. But also someone who is meant to induce paranoia because it's King's Landing and they wanted the player to feel uneasy about everything.
These two don't mix well, however. If Sera is sketchy and bitchy, then you don't really owe her any loyalty. If she'd a true friend you'd feel morally conflicted about betraying, than there's no real tension there. Torn between these two functions, their relationship never had time to properly develop.

Ooh, I really like this idea. We didn't get to see Clem and Duck interact much, I'd love to see how she would be around other kids.
No.30322
>>30321
Me too. Another child would be able to engage with and understand Clementine in ways that an adult couldn't and it would also be a dynamic we haven't seen before in TWDG. Sarah could've been that for Clem in S2 but we know how that went.
No.30323
>>30322
I also wouldn't count Sarah, since she was technically older than Clem, enough so for her to not be in the same age group as Clem.
No.30324
>>30323
Sure, but she seemed to be around the same emotional level as Clem (if the latter was written realistically for her age) and was the CB member closest to her in age. Regardless, we didn't get much believable interaction between the two of them beyond the first two episodes and it feels like a huge opportunity was missed.
I'd say Duck was on an even lower level than Clem despite being only two years older than her and the difference would only become bigger as they aged. It still would've been cute to see them interact more. I enjoyed what we saw of their friendship.
I just wonder if we'll get anymore opportunities since it seems they'll just continue to age Clem into adolescence and focus on her relationships with adults/people much older than her.
No.30325
>>30321
How do you think Duck's friendship with Clementine would have evolved if he survived S1?
No.30326
>>30325
I think he would've become hardened after two years in the apocalypse, and would've started acting less child-like as a result. I also think that after enough time together there could've been a potential romantic relationship between Clem and Duck.
That's another thing I'd like to see explored. How Clem would act around a boy she likes.

Ijust don't get how telltale seems to think that killing dozens of characters minutes after introducing them is supposed to be emotional. You just get desensitized, if anything. TfTBL had the right of it. Smaller cast, more time with the characters, lots of good and happy times. That way we get attached to characters more, and when something tragic happens, it's actually impactful.
No.30363

Since we're on the subject of Scooter, I might as well bring up something that I heard about, and how it can impact Clementine's future.
From what I heard, Scooter was killed off because his voice actor asked to written out of the script. His voice actor had a stroke and it was getting impossible for him to fill the role. This is relevant to Clementine because if Melissa Hutchison for whatever reason, wanted to be written out, or if she were unable to fill the role of Clementine, telltale would have to kill her off.
No.30364
>>30363
I don't know about that. Scooter was a mainstay of that series so they (Gearbox) wanted his "removal" to be something big.
If Hutchinson didn't want to play Clementine again, they'd probably give her a happy farewell, stop using the character altogether, and/or age her up to a young adult and use that as an opportunity to recast. I doubt they'd kill her just because.
No.30365

>and/or age her up to a young adult
I'm not sure this, because I keep hearing that telltale can't go past the comics in timeline. So they wouldn't be able to age her up that much.
