>“I’ve been in rooms with people in this industry who are great at what they do, but they’re absolutely elitist and they look down at movies like the Marvel films or actors like myself. They think we’re selling out in some way. Every time they speak I feel so disappointed in them, because whenever you see pictures of people in this industry who donate their time to children in need, it’s these actors that live in the world that you feel is selling out.”

>These actors are doing an important service by playing a superhero, Saldana argues. Whether it’s because of representation, or visiting sick kids in hospitals, superheroes are a shining source of inspiration for kids all over the world.

>Just look at the importance of Black Panther, which provided black kids with a superhero who looked just like them.

Implying there's anything wrong with looking down at Marvel movies or their actors.

>Just look at the importance of Black Panther, which provided black kids with a superhero who looked just like them.

The thing is, even in a world with heat vision, time travel, and mother cubes, a black man STOPPING a crime is too unrealistic to take seriously.

 No.1277018

So who is she representing as a green woman and what kid recognizes her? Sure visiting the kids is nice but it doesn't really change whether or not your movie genre is good. I honestly don't care either way with these super hero movies but this is honestly a poor argument.

I was so pissed about this shit a while back I started compiling a list of black super heroes and I was going to turn it into this huge image mosaic sectioned off to truly hammer in how idiotic these people are showing themselves to be by claiming he was the first black super hero, but I decided the film's time had passed and it's just sitting in a text document half finished. Eh, fuck it. I think I'll dump it. Maybe it still needs to get made.

Not at all, just a small sampling. Here's a list with over a thousand names, and it's not even complete or current by any stretch, not including any characters made in roughly the last decade:

Don't let racebaiters sell you on a mediocre movie as groundbreaking and unique in a way that undermines and erases the efforts of everyone who came before.

>and that both Mr. Terrifics remain untainted.

He's been tainted since his New 52 book. In it he bangs Power Girl and he and other black characters spend much of the book lecturing her about white privilege. The line most often quoted as the highest level cringe is "As a black woman I have been equipped to face things you could never handle!" This being said to Powergirl, an alternate universe cousin of Superman.
