The 'I like reddit shows but only admit it when they're slightly obscure' double bill. Friendly reminder you're somewhere in between Fireflyfags and GOTfags in retardation.

 No.1275695

I've never seen or even heard of Deadwood but Rome is patrician, they spent most of their budget on authentic set design and had to hire carpenters and engineers to get everything to look right and in the proper style, this made things like the clothing department suffer from lack of funding which is why people sometimes walk around with a plain cloth over them but that's not entirely unrealistic.

I have to add that season 2 had a massive dip in quality and quickly became "Eastenders, but in Rome" but it still slightly followed history and we got to see how Vorenus and Pullo ended up, which was great.

Kevin Mckidd is a really good actor who can play diverse roles and not just "stoic dude", ray stevenson was good as Pullo and you got to see James Purfoy's dick, he's also a good actor.

I have no idea why you're calling Rome reddit tier and you're not explaining why so i'm going to guess you're one of those "i don't like it so it's reddit" people.

DUDE SEX HAHAHA

DUDE INTRIGUE I'M SO FUCKING SMART

DUDE BRITISH ACTORS I'M SO FUCKING SMART

>"Eastenders, but in Rome"

I don't know how you could admit this about the second season and not the first. Yeah, it has a story, but almost all the time is spent satisfying "DUDE INTRIGUE LOOK AT THESE CHARACTERS TALKING ABOUT THEIR LIVES I'M TOO SMART FOR A STORY" retards

>good actors

>sets looked authentic

>big budget

none of it matters when you have retarded GoT-tier HBO writers.

Something is reddit if its plot has reddit gimmicks or if its writing is similar to shows popular on reddit. The writing is extremely close to what you'd see in Game of Thrones, a popular reddit show. It also has reddit gimmicks of sex and violence played up in typical HBO fashion, and it also focuses on bullshit interpersonal drama stories instead of a story.

They have an old out of shape pudgy Jew actor playing Julius Caesar. To top it off they have him cucked by his own soldier. Truly redditkino if there has ever been one.

A far better made for tv series about the same period and characters would be the true kino called Julius Caesar The Last Dictator of Rome, with Christopher Walken as Cato.

Nothing wrong with that, nothing reddit about that either. See pic related, redditors hate it. From the rest you said I think it's likely garbage though.

>why is rome so much more popular than deadwood

None of these shows is actually popular. Rome and Deadwood are praised in some circles, but neither were ever what you'd call popular; by some circles I guess I mean reddit since /tv/ automatically hates everything that isn't a spaghetti western or LotR.

>historical authenticity

You mean half the characters being made up, 99% of screentime dedicated to shit that didn't happen? Historical authenticity doesn't mean shit, this could be 100% fantasy and great or 100% historically accurate and shit.

>You mean the entire fabric of the roman empire, which was interpersonal family drama?

This isn't I, Claudius faggot it's a HBO series about sex and violence and infidelity, most being about no-name made up characters.

>>1275828

At least Rome has a story. I've seen all 5 seasons of Deadwood and don't remember a single thing happening except some minor blood feud between whorehouses that I don't think even got resolved.

>>1275842

it's more about how it's depicted. If it's forced reddit shit that goes nowhere like Deadwood, it's usually bad used to draw in the worst kind of viewers. If the story is focused around how character relationships relate to one another it can be great. Again, a good fictionalized series set in Ancient Rome I, Claudius does this perfectly, but to compare the interpersonal drama in that to Rome or GoT is embarrassing.

Exactly. All quintessential redditcore. At least Firefly's gimmick is western meets sci fi, not trying to appeal to teenagers giddy to hear profanity and see tits.
