This episode was honestly fantastic.

 No.250179

Nice nips, cupcake.

 No.250180

Was it? Be honest. Cause the last 4 have been absolute fucking garbage but to listen to Sunny fans they've been the best ever. I'm about to give up on the show completely.

 No.250191

>>250180

I've been an Always Sunny since day one, I've seen every episode multiple times, have discussed and dissected every episode in a near scholastic manner with my friends and have come to this conclusion: this season is garbage.

 No.250194

Frank has a malignant tumor. Hopefully next season is the last.

 No.250202

>>250180

I'm a diehard fan so I loved them all, but the quality has dropped for sure. This episode was genuinely better than all of the other ones.

 No.250203

>>250202

all of the other ones from this season of course

 No.250214

I always thought the name "sweet D" sounded like a bad prostitute name. I was watching some doc about truckers and human trafficking and this abducted this girl and gave her the name "Heaven Lee".

I love how low her self-esteem is and how shes the butt joke, i've longed for this kind of female character in a modern sitcom.

 No.250233

>>250194

This. The only way the show can go forward is with Frank dying and the fallout on the gang.

 No.250331

>>250176

Agreed, it's not enough to restore my desire for the series to continue but it has restored my faith that the rest of the series/the next series can be good

 No.250390

It was pretty good.

I really liked the suburbs one though. I can't decide if I liked this one more or the surburbs one.

 No.250426

>>250390

The suburbs episode is way too dark. Also, they either need to make Dennis go crazy for real or tone down the crazy. Same with Mac being gay. A tease can only go on for so long before it gets old.

 No.250428

>>250426

>way too dark

What do you mean? Like, you couldn't see anything?

If you mean by tone, I've never heard of someone complaining something is too dark for Always Sunny. There have been darker episodes in Always Sunny even in my opinion.

 No.250431

>>250428

Dark as in tone. Dennis losing his mind in a much more psychotic way than usual, Mac feeding the dog to Dennis, even as a joke. It is way too over the top for them keep playing this joke. Like I said, either make Mac gay for a season or tone it down, same with Dennis. The tease gets old after a while.

 No.250432

>>250431

The tease part I understand. It's a valid criticism. But it's a sitcom so it doesn't bother me that much I guess. That isn't to say they shouldn't do something with eventually, but yeah.

But too dark? I don't know. The gang has said and done darker stuff in my opinion. Like the D.E.N.N.I.S. system, or when they get a boat and Dennis goes on about "the implications". Or CharDeeMacDennis, a game where part of the purpose is to just crush each other emotionally. All the shit with the waitress. The decay of Rickety Cricket. When they go to the jersey shore and Charlie has a great night just to find out the waitress was drugged up, that one in particular gets me. Etc.

I didn't think Suburbs was that dark honestly.

 No.250556

>>250432

The DENNIS system is just game, but with a Dennis twist.

The implication is just logical.

CharDeeMacDennis is mostly an excuse to drink when just drinking is too boring.

Agree about the waitress and Rickety Cricket, however, it is usually dressed up as a joke.

The suburbs just made me realize how dark some of the stuff on this show is because it was not dressed up as a joke. I just did not laugh very much. Am I supposed to be laughing just because Dennis is "naked" and freaking out?

The best gag of the episode is not even mentioned, the room in the house filled with trash and air fresheners nailed to the wall.

 No.250693

>>250556

Yeah I loved the air fresheners all over the trash room, that was great. I also loved Dennis sperging out in traffic about efficiency because I can relate to that.

I just didn't think the suburbs episode was particularly funny in general though. Whereas with Being Frank I was laughing through most of the episode.

What I find interesting is that while some fags just dismiss this season entirely I'm noticing a lot of varying opinions. Every episode has some people saying it's great and some people saying it's shit.

I think if you've been watching Sunny since the beginning you're able to notice the transitional period between seasons 5-6 when Sunny became what it is today. It's not the same and they've been on-and-off experimenting with nontraditional formats. If you're looking for something comparable to the earlier seasons you're inevitably going to be disappointed.

 No.250729

>>250693

The non-traditional stuff is great. The problem is when they do a traditional episode this season it is nothing but callbacks.

Being Frank is great, we even learned a major plot point about frank, a malignant tumor!

Hopefully, Being Frank will be remembered as the turning point when the show wraps itself up.

 No.250777

>>250556

>>250693

Huh, I don't know. I thought the suburbs episode was really funny throughout. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 No.250854

>>250777

Suburbs was the best episode they've done since at least the Wade Boggs one. We're finally seeing delivery on some of these teases and you guys are calling it too dark? Dennis is full-on psychopath, Frank is full-on demented due to his brain tumor. They have stepped back on Mac's gayness, perhaps to have some semblance of a straight man, but they've also clarified that he's in love or obsessed with Dennis more than anything.

It seems very likely season 12 will be the last, so I don't blame them for trying different formats or taking things darker. The show was always dark! That's the point of the ironic title. What I do mind are nonstop callbacks like they did in Frank Falls Out The Window. For me, that was easily the worst episode of the series. Even worse than Frank's Brother.

But if the rest of the season is more like the last two episodes than the first two, I think it could be on par with 8, 9 and 10.

Hopefully Frank will survive until the end. I don't think they could pull off a whole season without him now.

>>250693

>you're able to notice the transitional period between seasons 5-6 when Sunny became what it is today.

Nailed it. They peaked at 5 and then afterwards they had to start thinking outside the box. I've still enjoyed new Sunny a whole lot. This current season just has a little more work to do.

It was probably the only good episode in the season so far. It only had one shitty thing and that was terrible techno music but it was part of a bit so it wasn't completely forced or anything it was just slightly annoying and too loud.

I did like this last episode the best so far. The "I'm full of dog poison" line is probably one of my all time favourites.

I agree. They noticed that the series was starting to get stale and are going things to mix up the formula. Some of the episodes are just okay, and some are great like this one. It's going to be a mixed bag whenever you experiment, but I give them props for daring to do something different.

 No.261207

Last two episodes are a two parter called 'The Gang Goes To Hell'.

Here's some spoilers:

It's set on a cruise ship, and the season ends with the gang crashing on an island. The plan is either to have the whole of the next season, or a film, or a couple episodes, of them hanging on the island and surviving.

Inspired by the Archer Vice dynamic shift.

 No.261208

Bit empty, but it was good to see that they're not just pushing the psychopath thing for Dennis, but for everyone.

 No.261215

It was okay, pretty par the course for this season.

Like last season where Charlie Work was the only stand-out episode, Being Frank will be the one for this season. The rest are mediocre.

But I'm a long time fan, so I'm still enjoying it.

 No.261417

>>260932

But The Gong Goes to the Jersey Shore, Chardee McDennis, The Gang Gets Trapped and Thundergun Express are some of my favorite episodes of the series…

Frank Reynolds' Little Beauties, The Storm of the Century, and the Highschool Reunion episodes were pretty good too.

In fact, Season 7 was excellent overall now that I think of all those, so Mac getting fat was definitely NOT a cutoff point.

 No.264743

I'm finishing the 6th season.

Is there any drop on quality after that season?

 No.264874

>>264743

I think season 7 is fantastic and has some great episodes. Quality gets spotty after that, but there's still a few standouts you should still watch, like Charlie Work. The good thing about Sunny is you don't reality need continuity to enjoy a single episode.

 No.266129

What did everyone think of the new episode?

 No.266219

I have a feeling it'll be like Mac getting fat. It'll happen for a season, then at the end, all go back to normal, possibly end the show on the note that these fucks will never change.

 No.271508

That underwhelming season finale. Mac is back to not being "gay".

 No.271557

Anyone have the webm of OP's scene?

 No.271590

>>271508

I thought it was decent overall compared to other seasons and compared to this season it was one of the better episodes. The highlight of the episode was probably the imaginary dinner party.

 No.271980

I thought the finale was great. Rolled my eyes at a few parts, as per usual with post season 6 Sunny.

But the pretend dinner was hilarious. Charlie with the flare gun was great.

I predicted Dennis actually had an onion on him but I was still totally caught off guard when he actually pulled it out.

Dee leaving and then quickly reentering upon mention of celebrity impressions was hilarious. The rest of that scene was meh, but I just loved that aspect of it.

I specifically thought that it would be stupid for Mac to recant his gayness on the basis that God exists after pt 1. He walks in and says "I'm gay." and THEN says "I have something to tell you guys: there is no God." He was not gay because there is no God, he was gay because he just banged two gay dudes. So therefore, with God's miracle saving them, that doesn't necessarily mean he's not gay.

But I'm using too much logic, it was really just an excuse for Mac to stay in denial, which really I think he needs to. It would be too weird with him being openly gay for the rest of the series.

 No.271991

>>271980

I think it would be much better if they just had it be "Mac's gay" and leave it at that, there's only so many times you can hint at something, tease it and then redact it before it gets stale.

 No.272267

>>271991

Well I think there will be a new dynamic now where the gang openly talks about it and calls Mac on it, but he stays in denial.

 No.272520

So this entire season was fucking garbage.

"Being Frank" was decent, but everything else was 3/10 or below.

I don't mind so much Mac coming out of the closet and then backpedaling, but holy shit, the reused jokes. The reused jokes are so fucking painful. It's Always Sunny has become Family Guy.

Think of all the jokes this season, and think of how many of them are more-or-less literal "Remember that?" jokes just lifted from previous episodes.

* You have CharDee MacDennis again in a way that brings nothing new (complete with a fucking SAW reference)

* You have a bland 80's movie parody that doesn't land (including nonsense like the announcer knowing what they're doing for no reason other than to be a wacky joke about 80's sports movies)

* You have "Mac is Gay" as a joke told at least once in every fucking episode.

* Mac & Dennis being a married couple as a joke again for like the third fucking time since "Mac & Dennis Break Up"

* Being Frank at least was fresh humor built around the premise of Frank being unreliable, having shit memory, and being a drug abuser. That was a decent episode.

* McPoyle vs Ponderosa is Charlie pretending to be a lawyer yet again, and constantly bringing up "bird law" yet again, and the McPoyles being wacky and incestuous yet again, and the gang calling The Lawyer Jewish without basis yet again, complete with some weird nonsense forced chaos at the end again.

* Charlie Catches a Leprechaun had one new joke, which was pretty much the gang dropping people off in the wilderness over and over again, the rest was just filler around that other than Charlie torturing the midget, which got nowhere. Mostly just re-hammering home the joke that Charlie believes in mystical creatures.

* The Gang Goes To Hell was just retellings of old jokes in both parts. Both episodes were massive rehashes of jokes from "The DENNIS System", "The Gang Buys a Boat", "The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis", not to mention yet again the "Dee is wrathful and crass" jokes, "Mac is gay and won't admit it" jokes to only bring up a few. The pretend dinner was actually alright in parts, and the flare gun had potential but didn't really land as a joke. The onion thing was obvious. Dennis tearing up when they mentioned the onion thing like 2 minutes prior was horrible timing for a joke. I was actually looking forward to Mac being gay because maybe they'd have real new material to work with rather than retelling the same jokes around him being in the closet over and over again. The ending with them not actually being dead was way too fucking obvious from the beginning of the previous episode.

That's the worst thing. More than half of the jokes are just retellings of old jokes in new situations now. The jokes that are actually new usually don't land.

The series has been downhill since season 7 (with a few nuggets of gold in the mix like "The Gang Tries Desparately to Win an Award" and "The Gang Gets Quarantined"), and now there is no real other way to describe it than a live-action Family Guy with the characters from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

It's pure pain to see the best show on TV turn into what it is. One passable episode in one terrible season is unacceptable.

 No.272983

>>272520

>the Gang Hits the Slopes was bad

Oh please, that was the jewel of this season. There was also nothing wrong with the Leprechaun episode. I will seriously agree with the reused jokes and the Mac thing, I was actually very annoyed that they reverted on that. Being Frank should've been a two-parter.

Well they are right, the jokes are getting overplayed. Most jokes that were new had old jokes as a lead-in, for example Dennis' "implication" followed up with Dee's "implication" of false accusations of rape, and then having a bird shit in her mouth.

They could shake it up a bit more next season, and hopefully they do, while keeping to the same base formula that has kept them successful: novel situations showcasing these sociopaths, without repeating the same jokes ad nauseum.

It wasn't a bad season, just surely could've been better.

 No.274540

>>273826

I felt the Dee implication could have been very funny if it didn't have the context of Dennis'. Dennis talking about his implication and Dee following up felt forced.

If she had brought it up independently, like while talking to somebody and without knowledge of Dennis' system, that could have been funny on multiple levels. That Dee is essentially a rapist pressuring people into sex could have been great. Then the joke is in the unwitting similarity of the twins rape techniques, when in the episode it just felt like a rehash piggybacking on the same joke and bringing nothing of substance.

 No.274597

"Nowhere near the quality of the first season" is a far cry from "fucking garbage."

Wait what, the first season as in pre-Frank? Shit that was practically Friends level of gayness and close to being cancelled.

 No.274825

"Nowhere near the quality of the first season" describes an entire range from "the worst thing anybody has ever watched" all the way up to "not nearly as good as the first season", a range that includes "fucking garbage".

And that latter point isn't a real point. That's like saying it's OK to flunk a class if most of the other kids are already doing worse than you. A shit show is a shit show, regardless of what other shit TV gets aired.

 No.275263

>>274825

No, that's fucking stupid. You compare things to other things similar to it. You don't just set a line and then tell everyone that everything below it is garbage in order to feel like you're a "patrician" to some 19 year old autists.

 No.275364

 No.277068

I think the season has been hit or miss, largely due to them going experimental with a lot of the episodes.

It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario, though. If they hadn't started going outside the box, people would complain the show was stale and tired. When they do wild episodes people complain "it's different" and "not the show I fell in love with".

There were plenty of jokes that weren't old references.

Also, why is referencing a bad thing? I can see if it's used in lieu of jokes it would be detrimental but they're making jokes about the old jokes. It's not 1:1.
