So, do you think Mike has rewatched the movie 10 more times and hates it now?
Or is this going to shit over the movie for two hours and then calling it "meh"?

So was their first review just a ruse to gauge reactions or what? Now he's saying what everyone else has about it being an uninspired soft-remake of New Hope while still shitting on George.

Just because they liked it doesn't mean there aren't any flaws or issues they had with it. If anything it may be an analysis of just how similar it is to A New Hope.
Or, it's just a quick gag and they won't really review it.

You know this is going to be a huge curveball, and the video will just be about why people are dumb to dislike TFA.

They didn't really review it; just gave their immediate thoughts and reactions.
My own initial thoughts and reaction was similar to Rich Evans': "It was okay, I guess. Though the ending with the super-duper deathstar was really weak."
After having a while to think about it, the flaws became more apparent.

I was thinking why I hated the new Star Wars so much, and I've decided it's because of the characters.
What happened to the Good Female Character? The stereotype would probably be:
- Physically attractive and/or fit
- Strong sense of emotion and empathy (vulnerability as well)
- Motherly instincts (caring for or protecting children/the weak and a desire to do so)
That type of character can get boring, but at least it's pleasant to watch and is based around human nature.
What we have now in spades are Stronk Female Characters like Rey. What is this character like?
- Plain looking or ugly
- Full of sarcasm or cynicism with no vulnerability
- No desire to be motherly or have a relationship, more important to be a stoic badass that needs no help
Just an awful miserable character that is no fun to even look at. When that is your protagonist you're movie is fucked unless you have brand power to trick people into liking it.
That also got me thinking about what the Stronk "Male" Character would look like. Basically the opposite of the cliched leading man who is physically strong, controls his emotions to do the right thing, willing to sacrifice himself for his "family," and is self-reliant. What we're left with is:
- Physically weak or unremarkable
- No control of his emotions
- No regard for "family"
- Inept and/or no agency in the film
Again, just a pitiful character that can garner no sympathy. You know who that describes though: Kylo Ren.
Cuck Wars leads are unlikable scrubs which is a disaster for an adventure movie. I know that Kylo is the villain so he can't be "good," but he at least needs to have some good qualities. The entire conflict of the trilogy is going to be based around a stuck up bitch and a man child. I guess they are marketing towards Millennials anyway though fam.

They did that with Titanic, spending the first hour going over how great it was from a technical and cinematic standpoint and the second hour going over how it was a popcorn flick pretending to be a romantic epic with low-brow humor.
There's just no defending Cuck Wars. They either go back on everything they said was good about it with Plinkett or do the most elaborate damage control an internet personality can ever come up with.

Yes, that's why he's horrible obese but he can cover that obesity up because it sometimes makes him look big and not too fat. Some videos it's obvious that his weight is getting out of control and others he's slimmed a bit.
No.271412
I think that the RLM review was hindered by the fact that the 'review' was more of a reaction video.
While I was pretty disappointed and 'meh' right after seeing it, I have a few friends who initially really liked it, but after thinking about the movie they started to become unhappy.
I know I'm giving Mike the benefit of the doubt, but he probably has started to realize what a bland, hollow cash grab the movie was.
Ugh, I mean, I have no interest in seeing the movie again, and I've watched the prequels multiple times.

What comedy? The review was basically them being worn out from the midnight release and agreeing to not disagree. Their better reviews are the ones that mix amusing reactions with above-average observations and analysis.
That's why it was so bruising to overlap the NC review with the RLM review. NC was autistic as usual but at least provided analysis and even disapproved of the movie at its worst.

My guess is that there's going to be back pedaling from the whole "I loved it, it's great, it's what a star wars movie should be" attitude. They'll try to be showing everyone that it wasn't pure fanboyism. But it also wont be nearly as much criticism as that piece of shit movie deserves so to alienate people who liked that they liked TFA.
Any harsh sounding criticism will be a "joke" and emphasized as a "joke" so everyone knows not to take it seriously, and it'll dodge genuine flaws of the movie.

Since when is rey ugly?
My issue with her was that she was put in the wrong context.
She's supposed to be the harbinger of the force being used in new ways. It's supposed to be terrifying that she could use the force without knowing what it was.
Instead of her initially going into trances or showing that she marks a new age or that her power is unique and scary, they just portrayed her as a standard too good at everything Mary sue.
Fin also converted too easily. The whole movie was way too convenient and forced
Kylo Ren was the most interesting character
Harrison and Carrie's interactions all kind of sucked.
Han wasn't ever used to patallel rey with luke

You just described the modern Western women.
>unless you have brand power to trick people into liking it.
This is why Episode 8 is going to be interesting. Episode 7 was mainly successful because:
>It was the first Star Wars movie in a while
>It wasn't made by Lucas
>It was marketed to hell so normal fags (i.e. people who don't give a shit about sci-fi) went to see it
With Episode 8 they actually have to deliver on something good because the above three points are no longer a factor.

I was the first of my friends to be disappointed right out of the gate with the film and grew more angry with it the following days. Then it turned into frustration when you couldn't say anything bad about the film for the next couple of weeks.
I don't know if I dragged them down to this hell with me, but both of my friends that initially loved it are as angry as I was and I'm just happy that soon the physical copies are out so that the people have tools to start ripping the movie to shreds.
As far as I'm concerned, many of the people who loved it lose that sensation very quickly when somebody makes them aware about the things in the film that don't make any sense. TFA carries itself through hype and nostalgia, take those away and it falls apart.

It might be more in the vein of the Star Trek remake review, where he comes with lowered expectations and comes out satisfied enough with it. The general content will be comparing it to the older films and pointing out what it did right, what it might be lacking but overall being consistent with his general feelings towards it based on the HiTB episode. He will probably end up defending TFA more than criticizing it just because of all the internet's criticism made towards the film is already there. If that is so I am really, really curious what arguments he makes in favor of the film.

Being "different" wasn't the reason prequels were bad. Prequels were bad because they had a multitude of serious cinematic and narrative problems while trying to be "different". You're just joining le ebin prequels-werent-that-bad bandwagon everyone is jumping on from 9gag to Reddit.
