Make sure you have a good surround sound system to get the most out of the ambient noises in the film.

>we all know what a cuck he is when it comes to making movies since he always tries the less = more approach, but the guy is several jew-grades below spielberg.

True to an extent I suppose. It takes a more minimal approach to things early on and then pulls out the big budget effects at the end.

As far as the plot goes it actually reminded me a bit of an old sci-fi film called "The Earth Dies Screaming". Fortunately this one didn't have as much of a downer ending as that though.

>>272129

The call back it makes to the other film is tangential but the style of the film is similar. Suspense and tension because of an unknown enemy (that may or may not exist).

I'm more of a hard horror fan, but I do enjoy a good suspense film every now and then.

 No.272249

Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) packs her things and flees her apartment, angry over a dispute with her partner Ben (Bradley Cooper). While driving away, she is distracted after Ben calls her and her car crashes and goes off the road, flipped upside down. When she awakens, she discovers that she is chained to the wall in an unknown location. After reaching her phone only to receive no signal, a man named Howard (John Goodman) enters the room and tells her that he saved her life, and that the world outside is now uninhabitable due to the nuclear fallout from "an attack." Skeptical, but trying to be careful, she pretends to accept this reality. Once freed from her chains and able to walk with crutches, she meets Emmet (John Gallagher, Jr.) who believes Howard's story. During dinner, Howard snaps after Michelle flirts with Emmet in order to get the keys around Howard's belt. When she does and the situation calms, she throws a bottle in Howard's face and tries to escape. She makes it to the the threshold between the door of the air-locked bunker, only to be surprised by the sight of a car and a woman, whose skin is horribly disfigured and peeling, begging to be let in. Howard yells at her not to let her in. She ultimately doesn't, and returns to the bunker.

Now believing that the outside world is uninhabitable, Michelle tries to adapt to her new life in the bunker. Howard confesses to Michelle that he accidentally crashed into her car, and shows her a picture of his daughter, Megan, and tells her that her mother took her away from him and moved to Chicago. One night when the air filtration system malfunctions, Howard asks Michelle to crawl through an air duct to reset the air filter in a control room as he and Emmet cannot fit into the vent. She does so and discovers a small window on the roof of the control room, which has the word "Help" scratched from the inside as well as bloody earring on the floor. Suspecting that Howard might have killed Megan, Michelle tells Emmet about what she saw, and shows him a picture of Howard's supposed daughter that he showed Michelle earlier (with the same earring in the picture). Emmet tells her that the girl in the photo isn't his daughter but a girl named Brittany, who Emmet's sister went to high school with, and who went missing two years ago. Suspecting that Howard may have something to do with the disappearance of Brittany, they try to make their own hazmat suits and gas masks in order to escape, using shower curtains and plastic bottles. One night, Howard calls both of them in the living room, playing coy and asking what they're up to, showing them the scissors and duct tape they had been using. He presents to them a barrel containing the highly corrosive perchloric acid. When Howard starts getting angry, Emmet lies to Howard that he had been making a weapon because he wanted Michelle to respect him like how she respects Howard. Howard then immediately shoots Emmet in the head.

Some time later, Michelle's suit is complete and Howard comes into Michelle's room, discovering the suit hidden under her bed. Michelle runs out of the room and locks Howard in there. Michelle runs to the living room to try and find a weapon, when Howard appears behind her. She knocks over the barrel of acid onto the floor and Howard slips on it, burning him. The acid causes the wire in one of the lamps to short out and cause an electrical fire. Michelle runs back to get the suit and manages to get to the air filtration room via the vent. Finally outside, she sees birds flying, takes off her mask off, and discovers that the air isn't toxic. She then sees a giant alien spaceship hovering over the corn crops. The bunker explodes due to the fire, which attracts the ship. She runs to a car outside the bunker, and the car alarm goes off, attracting an alien. She runs into the barn to escape from the alien and manages to get out and runs to Howard's truck. The ship reappears and drags the truck in the air, while Michelle finds a lighter, magazine and a bottle of alcohol. Lighting it on fire, she throws it into the mouth of the ship/alien. The ship/alien explodes, the truck is dropped to the ground and the screen cuts to black.

When Michelle comes to, she gets out of the truck and gets into the car. After a failed start, the car's engine roars to life and Michelle drives away, knocking over a mailbox that says "10 Cloverfield". She hears a distress call on the radio saying that areas north of Baton Rouge have successfully fended off the alien invasion while others to the south need more assistance, specifically that there are survivors in Houston in need of medical assistance and help from those with combat experience. She stops the car, decides what to do, and turns the car to go to Houston. Thunder and lightning reveals more spaceships in the sky.

I imagine Goodman gives a great performance as he usually does, but the story looks to be typical Abrams bullshit such as he did with LOST.

Rather than focus on developing one story, he tries to make the story feel eventful or surprising by throwing in twists that aren't related to what occurred previously and actually undermine what story had been developed.

Like the twist ending to this movie showed there was a genuine threat outside which made Goodman's attempt at keeping the woman inside a perfectly justifiable thing to do.

>The secretive drama isn’t a sequel to the “Cloverfield” movie but rather an extension of a fictional universe. “We do have a big, fun idea that hopefully will get a shot to realize,” Abrams said over the phone. “But in the meantime, I think the easiest way to consider this is that it is something of an anthology. But it's also something else that we're playing with. Fingers crossed that we get to execute.”

>When asked if what Abrams was trying to create was something in the vein of “Twilight Zone” or the “Amazing Stories” series but for film, Abrams confirmed, “It's an easy way to understand it at the moment, that it's just a cool anthology. And I think that this movie stands alone. I think [the director] Dan Trachtenberg did a terrific job on its own. But it does have a connection to something that we'd love to see through. But certainly the ‘Twilight Zone’ is one of my favorite shows and if this can be seen in that light, it would be a wonderful comparison…

>Again, it's sort of an easy way to say it's an anthology of cool genre films could all fall under the ‘Cloverfield’ banner. But seeing that this is just the second movie, I don't want to be presumptuous. There is a larger idea that we're working on that would be really fun if we could see through. Hopefully that can happen, but in the meantime, the ‘Twilight Zone’ comparison is flattering and hopefully appropriate one.”

>When pressed to see what type of movie Abrams would like to see under the “Cloverfield” banner, he revealed that he has a vision but wasn’t willing to dive into details just yet, “We do have this larger idea and it is pretty cool. There's a fun experience, I think, for moviegoers up ahead. If we're allowed to continue with our bizarre scheme.

>But as ‘Cloverfield’ was just one point on a board and this is sort of another point to kind of begin the trajectory, I think the fun of what could come next is this sort of unexpected but still connected narrative. The short answer is yes, but the longer answer is a little bit more weird than we probably could talk about.”

Its ok. The performances are good, John Goodman is good, the female lead is good as well. The movie has very small cast, and its small in scale and scope, as if an indie script was thrown together with a AAA budget.

The non-Jon goodman male is a shit tier character that comes off as an unbelievable jokey whiner. They tried to make him weak because of an injury, but he just comes off as a beta bitch.

The story is somewhat good inside the bunker, it weaves in and out and you are never sure if Goodmans character is crazy or justifiable. The ending is "What the fuck" tier, and completely retarded. Yes there really is a scene of her throwing a molotov into a giant alien. Its so fucking stupid and a giant tonal shift for no reason.

I honestly would've been fine if it ended with MEW taking off her helmet and seeing that the air was fine all along, making it a very effective psychological thriller. I guess the script just got the JewJew treatment and shoehorned aliens into there at the last second so that they could start a BLOCKBUSTER franchise instead.

The twist in the vent room is when it started to go downhill imo. After Emmett is killed, which I enjoyed, the film began to fall apart. The entire third act was rushed as heck.

 No.274264

I just got back from seeing this. I must say, out of some concerns I had with this movie I found it very thrilling and flowed very well…except the ending. The ending you can tell that this was a last minute add in and I sat through this movie like I was watching a really different movie that would have been great as a stand - alone film and left it titled, The Cellar. This movie felt like a psychological thriller and the jump scares did not feel cheap as it blended in very well with the uncomfortable feeling that these 3 characters get from being around each other.

I have to say John Goodman was the best actor in the movie by far. He is what made the movie intense and brought the feeling of creepiness. Like when MEW first meets Howard when he brought her food, the tension between Howard and Emmett when they had their first dinner together as well as Howard interrogating MEW in that same scene, and when Howard killed Emmett and tossed his body in the acid. He brought the most tension in this movie even more so than the aliens.

MEW was okay up until the end, then she became kind of cartoony. In her situation, she did look like that she was questioning whether if everything that Howard said was all true or not.

JG jr. didn't seem whiny or idiotic like other people made him out to be. He is kind of a jackass when he talks to Howard, but more laid back when he talked to MEW. What I admire most about Emmett is that he is always taking the blame for MEW so MEW wouldn't get in trouble, but costing his own life for it.

The aliens I am going to have so much fun ranting about because this is what frustrated me most and I must confess, I did read the spoilers before I went to see this movie. I was disappointed after reading the spoilers and even after going into this movie knowing exactly what to expect I was still disappointed by it. The aliens felt very forced and with talks about the Russians, ISIS, and that it was a chemical or nuclear attack, this should have been a nuclear fallout story like in the original script. A better way to have connected this to Cloverfield was to have mentioned the monster attack instead. The whole point of the movie was that Howard was suppose to be right all along and this only proved that Howard was more wrong than right. Lastly, after seeing the aliens I did not think of them as armored dogs, even though they did act like attack dogs, they looked more like scaly worms than anything. The design of the spaceship looked very cut and paste from the movie, The Avengers.

Before I conclude my review there were a couple things that bothered me. Is Megan and Brittney the same girl or is Brittney a different girl whom Howard was possibly having sexual relations with? Why would Howard even keep a photo of Brittney in the first place if he was the one that killed her?

Anyways, this was a very fun thriller. I loved John Goodman, I loved most of the story, but this should have never been in the same category as Cloverfield and I hated that JJ Abrams called this movie a "blood relative" to Cloverfield instead of just saying that this had nothing to do with Cloverfield in the first place. Despite liking most of the movie, the title itself just says that this is a total cash in on the title. I understand that JJ can do whatever he wants with the property, but when you have fans that want to know more about the monster then give them the monster in a new story. Come up with your own ideas instead of banking off a script for a different movie.

how do you dumb faggots not understand that the entire movie was a red herring, from the title to the first 95% of the fucking movie. you go in expecting a sequel to cloverfield, instead you get a claustrophobic, confusing human thriller. and when you're at the point where you think "oh ok, i guess Howard was just a lunatic kidnapping conspiracy fuck" Michelle gets outside and BAM, it's a fucking alien invasion. from the frying pan to the fire. Howard was a psycho conspiracy theorist with a daughter fetish, but he was right about the world getting fucked. this was very obviously JJ cashing in on favors from his jew studio exec friends to create his passion project, and it was executed very well. Goodman played his role amazingly, emmett was kinda meh, MEW did strong female protagonist well I guess, not super deep character development for Michelle but hey she decided to fight instead of run.

This movie was garbage. It was painfully obvious where the original screenplay ended and where the studio said NAH YOU GOTTA PUT CGI AND FUCKING ALIENS IN IT THE MOVIE WON'T SELL OTHERWISE. 10 Cloverfield Lane originated from an "ultra low budget" spec script penned by John Campbell and Matt Stuecken, titled The Cellar.

Also it doesn't keep you fucking guessing because the dense motherfuckers decided to name it 'Cloverfield' even though it had nothing to do with the movie. Because they named it that you knew there would be a monster or something waiting for them upstairs.

What's fucking more is the shitty aliens both looked like something out of Half Life. Then when you realize Jew Jew Abrams is making a Half Life movie, and look at the other directing credit Trachtenberg has is a fucking Portal fan film, you realize the entire final act was just test footage for their shitty half life project.

Maybe 'The Cellar' would have been a good movie, but the garbage product we got was a totally unrelated screenplay, test footage for another fucking project, and a name from an entirely different franchise. It's hollywood jewary at its fucking worst.
