Zod was stupid to try and terraform Earth to be more like Krypton when Earth, unmolested, provided a much better environment than Krypton due to its yellow sun. In addition, he's got the technology needed to terraform a planet, he didn't need to kill all of Earth's population when there are at least seven other planets in the Solar System which are all uninhabited (depending on whether or not Martian Manhunter is the last Martian in this new continuity)
