>tfw you recognize stock sounds in movies

Warcraft 3 used a ton of stock sounds (wc2 had that annoying dragon sound too)

Movies tend to remind me so much of that game, it's a weird feel.

I still hear sound effects from Doom used in modern big-budget films.

It's extremely distracting.

Yeah, it keeps happening. It's mostly sound effects that were used in older games tho for some reason.

 No.276809

Is it really so hard to record your own sound effects, or is this just pure laziness?

Or is there some copyright kikery I'm unaware of that prevents people from making their own shit?

 No.276830

To add to the thread, are there any truly great films that utilise natural sound effects without dubbing?

The reason why Heat has one of the greatest, if not THE greatest shootout scenes in film is due to the deafening sound of the guns firing, which provide an echo and reverb that is simply not present in most other films. I found out later that a couple of the guns were complete dummies that did have their sound dubbed in, but most of it was indeed real.

It sounds fairly close to the continuos background sounds whenever stargate is at their base.

At some intervals you can hear a door being closed in the distance and it might just be that sound.

The sound right at the beginning. I've heard it in other places, but I can't remember where. I don't know under what name it's known as a stock sound, or how to describe it.

 No.277511

Why? Is it because you gotta trademark your sound? How is buying, say, a cat's meow sound effect than bringing your aunt's cat and make it meow?

 No.277538

>>277511

The BBC sound pack contains TONS of audio for you to choose from. From air planes taking off to not-your-aunt's-cat meowing. Why pay someone to record all your new audio, when for a fraction of the price you can get reams of SFX?

Keep in mind, foley (And mostly sound in general) is criminally underutilised in film and tv. Only person I've ever worked with who understood audio properly was Lloyd Kaufman. You shouldn't have to explain to a professional film maker what diegetic and non-diegetic sound is, but it happens.
