its been awhile since ive seen Jane's punisher ( and i will probably rewatch it tomorrow now that youve got me thinking about it) is about a man who has everything taken away from him enacting a systematic revenge, the trials and tribulations arising from said revenge, and discovering that there still are good people in this world (or maybe that happiness isnt beyond him, if he wants it, again its been awhile)
bernthal's punisher is a murder machine who is primarily there to challenge the main character's views on vigilantism and redemption. while also is out to enact a systematic revenge, this is not his story, he is but a side character, so he isnt put through quite the same paces as jane.
Jane's punisher is nearly beaten multiple times ( harry heck and that wrestler guy) so as to show the viewer to see that the path he is set on is by no means easy, but it is the just thing to do, hence justice is not always easy. Bernthal on the other hand is this unstoppable demigod who MDK's bad guys by the bushel fucking basket.
he gets away with being far less mortal than jane because 1. he is not the focus of this story, this is daredevil's show after all, and its he has plenty of trials and tribulations to go around and 2. he is constantly challenging our hero to question the nature of justice itself ( the best example of this is when he has DD chained to the roof and the blacksmith's boat)
that is not to say that Bernthal's punisher is any less human the cemetary scene and the diner scene were fucking top tier acting, the former being the best scene of the entire show so far, and were excellent at showing us that he is a man, his humanity just not the focus like it is in Jane's punisher.

Personally I don't like this young marine Punisher who is more of a mad dog than the crazy ex-spec ops Vietnam vet I know from the comics. Mannerism is completely different between the two. Also after Ray Stevenson this one seems almost lanky and awkward.
And that is my only personal dislike with the character, otherwise the Punisher in this season is great when it comes to action and violence. And even if I disagree with the actor choice, I think the actor himself does a great job.

Yeah, it's in Arrow, Blade 2 had it to an extent, Batman's had it in spades with the league of assassins and the court of owls and shit, and somewhere in the middle we've got The Hand. They probably should have picked up on the fact that Elektra did so poorly that this is one of the weaker elements of Daredevil's story.
So far I've been pretty impressed with the series, but they need to downplay the ninja shit. It's a shame they did away with The Owl last season, because done right he could have worked really well as one of the major villains.
From the comic, Daredevil has three characters he works really, really well with. Kingpin, Bullseye and Punisher. I was stoked about this season because of The Punisher. They're both good guys but they have the exact opposite ideologies so they play off eachother perfectly. The only nemesis Punisher can really have is a hero because he just kills villains.
The show made me realize all the other elements that make the character unique and have potential for a really good series. Anyone see the show The Sentinel that came out in the early 2000's? It was about a cop with super human senses. Daredevil brings back a lot of that, the whole good-hearted law firm thing adds a great law & order sort of element to it and serves as a great plot device for criminal elements to just drop into his lap, and him using his senses to detect if someone's lying, and him standing on rooftops using his hearing to track down crimes in progress are really neat. The whole Catholic thing works really nicely too, I like how it's handled on the show, and this is coming from an atheist. It adds something.

This show is kind of meh. Daredevil is alright. Electra is mostly annoying and I could do without her. I don't care for the Kingpin much either. I think that is mostly just the way he talks. It sounds weird. Ninjas seem so 1980's to me. Ok, this show isn't that good. About the only thing I am liking about it is the scenes with the Punisher in them. I think the better route would be to shit can all of this show and go with a series about the Punisher instead.

They have the punisher build up this WHOLE FUCKING SEASON, and even put daredevil in a situation that he can't handle, prefectly ripe for the punisher to come in and save the motherfucking day, but nah, he gets to ninja battle and then elektra dies. and only AFTER she dies does punisher just sort of snipe some people. what happened to those ninjas that were gonna come in from downstairs anyway? Just finished the season.
I really liked it. I went in with minor expectations and they were met.
Love the Punisher and really liked how they still kept it grounded in the context of law and actually had them in court. It still kept the angle of them being lawyers.
I liked how they actually went all-in with the ninjas and over-the-top shit from the comic. When it had gore it wasn't afraid to show it but it was generally used sparingly.
Complaints reserved for most of the women in this show, though. Elektra was interesting enough but when her and Daredevil were on screen there was absolutely no energy. I tuned out in nearly all of their dialogue exchanges.
And Blondie What's Her Face is given WAY too much responsibility and access for being relatively shitty at everything she does, and she spends WAY too much time crying. Also, she keeps being forgiven by the cops for so much suspicious shit and sneaking around and escaping. Why the fuck do we need this person in the show at all?
I'd give it a solid 7/10 if anyone gave a fuck about my opinion or gave a shit about this post.

I wanted more Punisher this season too, but then I realized:
1). The buildup was exactly what happened last season with Daredevil.
2). This is a show about Daredevil.
I wanted Punisher to show up with the gattling gun and save the day, but again: this isn't Netflix Presents: The Punisher. Although they're probably going to do that soon.

Alright, finished the season a little while ago. My thoughts on the different elements, obviously, major spoilers:
Elektra: I said this earlier, this character completely sucked in the show. I don't even really mean from a comic accurate perspective, because I was never a big Elektra fan. Her just pulling her signature sais off the French guy who tried to kill her was lame, she should have just had them from the beginning. It was weird her getting attached to them and using them for the rest of the season when she just pulled them off a random assassin.
The actress is fugly, looks skeletal and as if she could be in her 40's, had a terrible accent, didn't look convincingly strong at all, had no chemistry with Matt, and it was really weird seeing how completely different the child version looked. Why is she Asian as a child, but not an adult? The little girl's nose is a completely different shape. Took me right out of it.
Her "armor" felt pretty lame as well, honestly. Just have her wear a costume, the exposed arms felt silly on "armor", and that sai went straight through it. I'm glad Melvin didn't give that to "Betsy"
Punisher: I guess I gotta give him like an 8/10. He was perfect for the first four episodes, him at the end all armored up and kitted out looked awesome, but most of what he did between that he just kind of seemed slow and confused. I didn't like that. I did like the Charles Bronson Deathwish vibe he was giving off though. I just felt like everything should have been according to his plan, when from the moment the trial began he felt more like a tool reacting to other people's decisions.
He had some killer scenes in the last episode, but I'm not thrilled about this stupid sub-plot involving his platoon. Punisher doesn't need to be complicated, criminals killed his family, now he kills criminals. I also didn't like the insinuation that he just acts the way he does because a bullet hit his skull.
That "Micro" disc though, we know where that's going. In the comics, Micro was Frank's weapon supplier for a while, though he's been killed in virtually every version of the story. For a period, he was the guy who set Frank up with leads on criminal organizations and gave him his weapons. Netflix Presents: The Punisher when?
Kingpin: Still absolutely awesome here. I'm glad we didn't have that scene of him getting prisonraped. Can't wait to see what he does when he gets out.
The Hand: Honestly, never really felt the ninja shit. I feel like it's DD's weakest element. So much shit went unexplained, and felt unsatisfying, like the kids being drained of blood.
Nelson, Murdock & Page: They need to work on Foggy's dialog, I wasn't really that impressed by any of his big speeches. Karen's pretty, but she took up way too much screen time this season. Her becoming an investigative journalist was kind of lame, and I know her reasons for feeling the way she does about Frank come down to her shooting that guy last season, but every scene she was with him just looked like she wanted to fuck him. I guess I'm just not digging the newspaper angle because her boss was such a tool last season. Fuck that guy and his bald head and beard. All the bickering with the firm was lame too, I didn't like the season resolving with them not being a firm.
Best scenes:
-Punisher/DD rooftop ideological debate.
-DD beats up a building full of bikers with a chain strapped to his hand.
-DD gets his signature billy club weapon and tries it out. That shit was great.
-Any scenes where DD was using his hearing like a radio scanner or detecting if someone was lying.
-All of Kingpin's scenes.
So what do we got left to look forward to?
-The character crime lord Owl is supposed to be was killed last season, but they may bring him back as someone else.
-Kingpin rebuilding his empire, whatever the hell's going to happen with Elektra.
-Bullseye and Typhoid Mary (really hoping they don't plan to combine Elektra with her)
