Yes the prequels were better. I'd go as far as to say they're actually underrated. Do they have flaws? Yes, but not nearly to the point that has been memed. AOTC is probably the only one I would call shit. TPOM is disappointing, and the ending is a clusterfuck, but the rest of it ranges from okay to good. ROTS is good.
VII has greater flaws, in greater numbers, and many of the same flaws that the prequels get a bad wrap for as well.
