It's more to do with the fact that his character is becoming bolder, and starting to go down that criminal path. He views morality as more malleable, which is symbolised by him simply changing the rules to fit his needs (ie the cup holder).

Mike goes through a similar thing in that episode with the 50,000 dollars.
