Prowess is less an attack stat and more like your general 'heroics' /competence skill. So while he can maul you to death he doesn't have the finesse for things like swinging on a rope, acrobatics, concealing a weapon, breaking down a door (effectively and without hurting himself), or maneuvering a horse around or over some obstacle.

I am a bit confused now on what the general census is about how tabletop game-friendly the abilities should be. Some things (like the rules listed at the top of the image in the OP) seem really TG-ish while some things get super vague.

It's the issue with having multiple people stat the knights. The abilities/powers are supposed to be more /tg/ish tied in with the rules above. Or they tie in with a kingdom bonus or getting bonuses from princesses. Something more hard and definitive.

Both are actually rules lite in practice. As the person who wrote the roll under 1d6 ruleset the way I imagine it is still very much up to GM fiat and what both the player and GM think of as 'relatively trivial tasks'. Meaning you can have combat encounters without rolling anything because you're much stronger than your opponents.

At most it's just modifiers to the stats, something that causes a guaranteed crit, something that forces your foe to make some kind of check, or making it so something is so easy for the knight that they never have to roll for it.

While we don't really have turns there are days which are determined by the GM. We might need to define that a bit more somewhere down the line. I imagine the rescuing takes place in 7 days not including the day you arrive at the towers. Since we don't have turns I decided to make it a random resurrection that can be inconvenient for the player and a storytelling tool for the GM. After all, just because you don't die doesn't mean the princesses can't. Or that your plans might fall apart in your 1-6 day absence.

Curse of the Revenant- When your stamina falls below zero, you fall into pieces. Roll to see how many days it takes for you to reform.

Drop the last two sentences of the power and say it like 'regenerating 1 stamina per turn untill full, unless attacked' or something like that.

You cold also drop the font size down a bit and shift the portrait further to the right to give the layout more breathing room.

Mot of the issues have to do with stating things that are either irrelevant or already implied. Like the shield, there's no reason to say it doesn't have any special properties , just don't list any special properties, see? A single line about it being a weathered heirloom says the same thing. Cut out the part about the necromancer and valhalla, just hit the basics, the curse and the unlife. And drop the line about 'by battle or by magic', like no shit, how else would he die? a single line about seeking death with the 'but what if…' caveat gets the same thing across.

if you wanna keep the deathseeking minus I'd say switch it with the liquor one (which should just be 'liquor goes right through him, literally') because it's oddly paced to set up with a joke and then end on a single serious note. You could cut down the pluses and minuses by using flowery language instead of expository language too, 'accursed unlife' instead of 'cannot die by normal means'. Same information basically but much shorted and more flavorful. And seeing as it's a very very rules-light thing we're working with there's no harm in being slightly more vague than you could be.

dont take this the wrong way or anything too, like i'm singling you out, i like the character, he's got style and a cool gimmick.

Pretty solid. My recommendation is that you rewrite the power to swap your smarts stat score with another stat score. Adding it works too but it comes off as clunky because the stats cap at 5 and rolling a 6 is an auto-fail. So Adding 4+ to any stat just maxes it out.

How to half-ass compile:
Get GIMP. Get BIMP. Download all the statted knight images into a single directory. Set up a BIMP chain: White to transparent, resize to width 400 or so and keep aspect ratio, convert to png compression level 1. Output to a separate directory.

Open the empty knight template (or a half full template)
Open as Layers… everything in your resize directory.
Use the move tool to line everything up.

I may do this myself in a few days when I have time, but I'll half ass it again and only add knights that have been added to this thread, so if you want to resurrect some of the old knights repost them.

I think he looks fine, though. He's supposed to have a bright, gaudy shade of red– he's Red Knight, not Vermillion Knight.

Plus, if I change his change of red, I have to change everything else that's that shade of red too, which is a big pain in the ass.

I've showed at least a few other people Red Knight, and I've yet to hear anyone say anything about the colors being eye searing. Might just be your monitor brightness.

If those look the same to you your monitor is washed out, which explains how you can stand a red that bright.
It makes the whole piece look like you whipped it up on an old EGA monitor and don't know how to tune the palette.

My monitor isn't washed out– I looked up the image on two different devices just to check. The difference between reds just isn't great enough to notice without directly comparing the two in one image. You're probably just sensitive to bright colors.

What I don't understand is why you'd introduce a third, significantly darker shade of red in your comparison image.

I've checked it on four monitors: two desktops, my laptop, and a tablet, and it's uniformly hideous. The red floats instead of adhering to the surface of the image. They're like particularly glaring censor bars stuck to the front of the image.
TBH I want to desaturate it even more. Gimp's blend is pleasant to me. I could go with that.

I was thinking he'd have a helmet similar to the Alonne Captains where a visor protrusion goes up from the forehead, but with a matador's cap over/a part of his helm. Not sure if I want to have him be a direct homage to Kazuma Kaneko's design or have him be a different color and design (the pic where the matador's dick is dislocated), though he's definitely getting a sword called Andalucia and a wind capote.

Hats on helmets is my fetish.

And honestly it is a great way to add flavor to a design if you're wanting a specific theme but want to adhere to the Helmet Rule.

I think you've got a pretty good grasp on what's going to make a good Matador design, a coat on a tight bodysuit, so it really is a matter of how explicit you want your shout-out to be.

I think he'd have a helmet. I imagine he made and repairs it himself. Has hunting ornaments, wood, metal plates nailed in where it's damaged, the lower half got torn off so he put a metal jawbone thing or put an actual beast's jawbone. Maybe he wanted a horned helmet but he couldn't find horns of the same size. Things like that.

I dunno about any of that (I don't even know what Kobolds ate my Baby is), but my original plan was for a kobold trying to play the part of a more traditional knight, trying to prove that not all Kobolds are uncivilized and deserve the status of races like men, elves, and dwarves. The hook being that he's not very strong or powerful, so he ends up relying more on tricks, traps and a silver tongue than his sword.

Spoiler: it's totally my original character that I've always wanted to play in a D&D game

I'll probs see what tribal kobold themes I can put into the design though. He may be playing a knight, but he's still a kobold, and he still represents his homeland.

Also, since the template that we've been using was designed for normal-height knights, I made one for shorter knights. Throwing it out there in case anyone needs it.

If you want to evoke your theme while still giving him that knightly feel here are some good weapon combos.

Trident and Net are a good combo. Stand out and net is a classic straight forward sort of trap.

Rapier / Small Sword/ Side Sword gives him a more refined feel and you can pair it with a parrying dagger. Like pic related, a tricky thing which was meant to catch an coming blade.

Then there's the whole underdog feel. So you can give him a classical sling and a bag with all sorts of tricks and ammunition.

I'm not sure if that's all too OP in and of itself, and if I'll have to put the "MacGyver" thing as his ability. I wanted to give him an "Armistice" ability, allowing him to convince knights with a lower charisma to lay down their weapons, if he does so as well.

Might be too much though, whaddy'all think?

Bag of Holding sounds cool but Mimic technically has that, and you could use her as an upgrade if you're brave enough.

Would describe the bag as something that can hold anything regardless of size however the space isn't unlimited. So add "6 slots". At the end.

Then the ability can let you MacGyver things with a prowess or int roll determining whether it works out or not. Consumes the items used to make it if they're not dowries or lust items. P.S. don't call the ability MacGyver.


The other ability is iffy because some runthroughs might not depict other knights anyway and they may not be statted the same as NPC types.

So I wanted to say I don't want to censor much, but it turns out I'm a huge pain in the ass. Punchline: I can put bear knight in, but to write it down:
1. The character has to be on model and its sheet legible. If it's poorly drawn I can't fix it but I can do color corrections if that's all it really takes. (Another reason I skipped Spirit Knight is because the kerning is terrible and it's hard to read)
2. It has to have all the correct stats, because otherwise it causes comments. See: Corpulent knight and bash knight. So Bear Knight needs to have a description for his hands, and I'm not sure I can accept him without a bear arms joke.

I don't know if that would be the best solution considering the varying dimensions of the knight art kinda requires you to move the boxes around and adjust the spacing on a case-by-case basis. So I was thinking we'd organize the chart slightly and I recommend some necessary art updates for Ace and Black Knight.

We start the first 1/4 of the chart with Ace + Colour Knights and ending with Man-At-Arms. We could repurpose some of our current knights as a colour if needed. Yven is a perfect Blue Knight but Arcane could be renamed as Blue Knight if needed for example.

Then everyone else comes afterward. It could be organized into classes and themes (plunderer, mercenary, lantern), and then races / princess parallels.

Yeah, it'd be cool if he showed up. I really like his style of making knights, particularly how his are the only knights (sans bear knight) that have one weapon occupying both their weapon slots. Thinking about doing that for my next knight after Matador. Wouldn't blame him for thinking the move was dumb– really, it was pretty dumb.

That works so far, you're not skimping on his knightly aspects so there's more room for being loose with the helmet rules provided you compensate elsewhere. Though one thing you can try is converting that snout into steel and then putting a row of vertical breathing slits where his nostrils would be. That way you cover his face and show that his face isn't human due to the helmet's design.

Sorry if I sound like I'm being difficult, but I've been trying shit like that. The problem with most snouts is how small the kobold's snout is compared to the huge 'chibi' heads set by Gats' precedence on Kobold anatomy (see: Kobold princess). Shrinking the snout to size often just makes it look downright silly and out of place on the helmet.

I admit it, probably half of my problems here is because I'm not a terribly great artist. I've basically been using a crutch. My Dad's rich friend had a fucking expensive 1000$+ tablet she didn't want, gave it to my little bro, and I borrow it while he sleeps.
So, bear with me if I flounder about this stuff. I'm trying to improve as much as I can.

I apologize if my font size is erratic, thanks to my descriptions of varying length. Same with line spacing, since there wasn't an established template for that until precently. It's also fairly difficult to have a uniform template for font size and placement when some of the knights have intrusive shapes. Though frankly I'll put the font size to 2 before I compromise a good design.

a lot of the details and finery you'll probably have to do after inking it considering lace and stuff wouldn't read well with black outlines and would be better done in white ontop of the pink or whatever the dress ends up being
