So a year ago, sometime early last month, 05/04/14 - 05/10/14, my boyfriend asked a favour of me and handed me one thing. He gave me the original towergirls image, with 20 princesses and 4 generals, and said he'd like a tabletop rpg based off that picture.

For the past year, I have been making a tabletop game and have a working and playable system down, built from scratch.

The only problem is that I have absolutely 0 content from any of this stuff this board has done.

What I did was just the creation of myself and a few friends, working for a whole year to make a ttrpg from scratch.

I think i'd like to get everything the /twgrl/'s community has created into the game and work it for all this new stuff, but I won't release anything major about how the game works or anything, until I've finished it.

So /twgrl/ - What do?

MMmm….that's a hard one. Some of them would actually be useful say like Orc Princess or Ogre, or Amazon, or even the dragon princesses…..

However then there are others that would be absolutely useless (Human princess I'm looking at you!)

You'd also have to consider the companions and generals as well as possible team-mates.

While I like the idea of it, you'd have to find some way that all the princesses could be useful, like their dowries or something give them an attack or something.

Answered this on Twitter, but I'll try and get into more detail here:

I was working with some nice folks on a project some time back, and when this subject came up, we decided that princesses should be involved in combat - but their roles would be split up into offensive, defensive and buffs/passive depending on their personalities/build.

As >>5603 points out, characters like Orc, Ogre, Amazon, etc. would be in the 'offensive' category, and have skills related to damaging the opponent. Human princess might offer support buffs or passive 'gain money in a fight' buffs. Someone like Kobold might have healing gems, that sort of thing. It's a good opportunity to get creative.

Hmmm, I like that idea Gats, figuring some way to make them of the three different classes.

So say 'offensive' or Tank, 'support' or DPS, and 'heals' or Heals (XD). It gives room for the knight playing to choose a different type of knight.

Like lets take Princess Knight (my knight). She's based to be a speed-type Tank. She'd be on level with a Warrior-type class which can switch between Tank or DPS because of her abilities.

So I'm Princess Knight, I can do DPS and Tank, but my health isn't near as high as some of the slower, more stamina built knights. So I need some supports or a heal. ((We'll stick with Gen 1 for a whole team's sake))

I pick up Boy Princess, Boy Princess is a support-type princess, because he can call weak minions "Farmers" to help/OR he can give a buff of like 'regenerated food/refreshing food' which is a buff that helps the knight regain health slowly during battles.

Next I pick up Amazon Princess, who I can then trade with to be my 'Tank' since she'd have higher stamina then me and would have offensive attacks, and I can stick to DPS, allowing higher and faster damage to a target.

Then we pick up Mimic Princess. Being a monster herself, she'd be an 'offensive' but she has lower stamina so she'd be more DPS.

This gives me about 3 good fighters on my team and one support. This I can use to face Dragon Princess, and get her to join my side and get her encrusted chest and switch out Mimic and Amazon for Ivory Sweat and Wonder Chest, and hopefully by that time I'd have Rooster bell and make Dragon Princess into a prince and then I have two male 'princesses' BWHAHAHAH

Anyways, you can probably get a good feel for what their roles would be considering their dowries, like Boy Princess' Haystack Needle turns non-combatants into soldiers, so again, he can bring up a support of some sort. Or Amazon Princess, if you get to full lust, you'd get the pelt and could use to augment yourself so you could turn into a dire beast for one round.

Things like that.

This looks pretty good - and that was quite fast, much faster then I move. If limitless time were a thing, I think having each princess be able to pull into a different role, but most being only good at one, might be nice - but this is simple, and simple is effective, generally.

All the princesses have one active and one passive. Not all of them HAVE to pertain to helping in combat. If I listed them as support, then they won't fight, Defensive CAN fight, but won't always. (Depends on the princess.) Offensive will always want to fight, so they have to have an active pertaining to dealing damage or helping in combat.

First off, Gen 1. Slime Princess and perhaps Drider Princess should be offensive or defensive types. This is because Slime Princess possesses the powerful ability to dissolve ANYTHING, while Drider is part spider, a type of hunting carnivore. I'd say… Offensive for Slime Princess with an active dissolving ability, and defensive for Drider (many spiders let prey come to them) with an active ability to ensnare enemies with webs, but that's my opinion. …I'd also change Succubus Princess to defensive, and have her provide minions for combat and other purposes (while staying by you to direct, fighting directly only as a last resort). And as a nod to one of her Dowries, Orc Princess should probably get a passive that increases loot drops, or makes it less likely that enemy equipment gets damaged through combat, or something.

Gen 2. I've heard descriptions of Dawn Elf being the most fae of the elves, messing with people's perception and even sanity… So maybe some sort of confusion-inducing active power? Her passive could meanwhile increase the benefits of certain things considered "pleasures", such as fine food, spa treatments, and the like. Centaur could have some sort of passive increasing marksmanship or learning… perhaps some sort of power shot with her bow for the active. Gorgon's active should definitely be petrification in some manner. Perhaps a "Serpent's Tongue" passive that increases diplomacy and bluff rolls, as her convincing nature rubs off on the knight? I'd also switch Monkey Princess to defensive and specialize her in counters or the like, and… well, for Armor and Crest Princess, I can't see either as defensive. Armor Princess bears the idol of the goddess of offense, while Crest Princess is… a head. I can't imagine any way Crest Princess could actually defend you (or herself) other than with words, or maaaybe some form of verbal spellcasting. I could maybe see Dullahan Princess as defensive however, as a mix of the two offensive and supportive roles. And Merchant Princess should probably have a passive which increases the amount of money the party receives. Huh, more ideas there than I expected.

Lastly, Gen 3. Dusk Elf Princess could probably be made a defensive as while she might not fight herself, her mere presence would cause the Orc Bodyguards to defend the two of you. Or at least her. Vampire Princess should probably have some sort of Life Drain ability, whether an active one she uses or a passive one that grants life leech to attacks made by the party. Raider's active should be some sort of lightning attack. Triclops should get some sort of 1/day Dominate Monster ability as her active, and grant a passive bonus to Handle Animal. Sphinx Princess comes from an entire family of warriors, so she should at least be a defensive princess I think. Sword princess… frankly needs something more interesting that slash and block as her active and passive. Maybe some sort of ability to split herself into multiple parts for a Bladestorm attack, and her passive could be to lower enemy concealment and pierce illusions within a radius? That'd fit with her power bonus well… and lastly, Jester Princess should be at least defensive, if not offensive. She's a powerful Black Magic user, capable of inflicting death to groups. Of course, instant death is rarely a balanced option (or fun, in the cast of versions with only a small percent chance of working)… so maybe a count-down version, one of those where the enemy automatically dies after X rounds if they don't manage to remove the curse?

That's all I've got at the moment, but hopefully it'll be helpful.

Orc Princess: THE LEWTZ!!

Dawn Elf Princess: Dawn Elf uses Confusion Ray! It's very effective!

Crest Princess: Dude, she's defense because of her goddess, she can cast a defense spell like a pally bubble or something.

Monkey Princess: Counters only for this one seems kinda unreasonable, she is a trained warrior, so I think she's better to stay offensive.

Gorgon Princess: Something like 'Snake eyes' where she petrifies the attacker for a move or two.

Dusk Elf: Minion type defensive move would work.

Vampire Princess: LIFE LEECH!!

Triclops Princess: She's a harder one to land, she's got a huge herd at her command, so she could use them as a 'defend' option like the bodyguards for dusk elf, that or if it's a beast or beast-kin opponent she has the ability to 'dominate' for a certain amount of time….

Sphinx Princess: Well she does have the Jackal, so maybe 'foresight strategy' to see what attack the opponent uses next?

Sword Princess: She's got the Shieldmaiden too, so she could act as 'dual' sword and 'call shield' for an increase in parry or block.

Jester Princess: I'm thinking more of a glass cannon type, high attack power but easily disabled. If not, something like 'marrionette' where she controls opponent for one move.

I'll look some more into the girls later to get an idea of better balancing, specially with that number of offensive/supports vs. defense.

You put a lot of good thought into this, I can see why you go by Knight of the Balance. I'd like to second being careful with an 'on-death' effect for Jester Princess. I'd trade it out for a 'hex' effect that adds a counter to the target that does nothing.

When the counters equal or exceed the target health, they have a chance of biting it. That might be too weak, however.

Insect Princess - A (Swarm!): Either Insect Princess or an ally may hit all targets within five feet/a square/whatever distance modifier you're using. P (Ambrosia Dew): +2 to positive effects from rest.

Knight Princess - A (Sword and Shield): Next attack to hit either Knight Princess or Knight has damaged reduced by one; Knight Princess counters the attack. P (Warden): Repairs equipment while resting. +2 roll to Craft (Shelter) or makeshift fortifications.

Mermaid Princess - A (Asphyxiate): Knight's next attack drains oxygen; enemy makes a resistance roll. If they resist successfully, there is a - 2 to their next attack roll, failure stuns for a turn. Useless against enemies that do not breath.

I'm moving the game closer to what the CYOA provides due to the amount of princesses at hand.

Players will start the game as lone knights with the task of invading the grand tower kingdom, to rescue princesses from the dragons. 3 princesses will be rescued by each player, and 2 will be returned to their kingdoms, with the 3rd staying with them to provide them extra assistance. those returned will give a reward each, and the one that stays will provide an active and a passive.

*laughs* just because I don't do Skype doesn't mean I'm totally out of the loop, I have too many friends that play a DnD CYOA game so I'm kept semi-abreast with the ideas and forms. It was also what I planned to do with my life, make video games (specifically monsters to eat players faces off >D) (Sadly where I live, not many people are interested in video game artists. *sigh*), so now I'm getting another degree and just keep up with games through youtube and various gamer-sites.

Hm, I like that Swarm idea for Insect, and Knight Princess' sounds good, but Mermaid Princess bothers me a bit. How is she causing the drain of oxygen? Is she pulling some kind of water bubble around their head to drown the opponent? Granted the set up will do fine, I just want to know how the oxygen is being taken for description wise.

Maybe for a passive she can purify water, giving 2+ HP

Fair enough for Crest Princess being defense. I even used that same argument for Armor Princess… In fact, nothing says she's immobile, just that she needs help with physical tasks, which had been a large part of that. For Gorgon's Active, I think a turn or two petrification is reasonable, depending on what the combat system turns out like. For Triclops… I suppose it's a matter of enemy types. I prefer the dominate ability, but only if there's going to be a fair number of the type of enemies she CAN dominate. I like that idea for Sphinx too. Lastly, Jester… I do like the glass cannon idea. My question is, can the offensive princesses only help via actives and passives, or do they get regular combat stats as well? Because if they do (and based on the description of the three types they should) having her have glass cannon attributes for the basic combat and either a death effect or marionette ability for her active would work very well, I think.

Actually, your hex idea gave me a good thought for the Jester's death effect. Maybe she could apply a hex that chooses a value between 10% to 30% (depending on relative enemy level/power), and when you drop the enemy below that level of health they're instantly "Culled" and die. I've seen that sort of effect in dungeon crawlers before, and it's pretty balanced. Rather than instantly ending a fight, you're basically cutting off a portion of their lifebar. I also really like your ideas for insect princess and mermaid princess… covering the enemy with water to drown them is how I'd play the latter, given that she has a dowry to generate unlimited water-filled bubbles. For knight's… the active seems a bit weak, unless when you say "Knight Princess counters the attack" you mean she both blocks the damage and then makes a free attack against the attacker. I do like that idea, defense and offense in one.

So… back before September started… I talked with my boyfriend and for my 2-Year Anniversary I got… A break-up!

Lucky me right?

Anyways, He was my main inspiration for the Tower Girls Table-Top Role Playing Game…

For a while, I dropped it and did other things with my life.

Now I'm back, returning to the world of the /twgrl/ to tell you this:

PRINCESS QUEST IS BACK.

Work on Princess Quest has resumed and we hope to give you a product you will all love and enjoy.

Towergirls in a "Dungeons and Dragons"-esque manner is what we aim to give this board.

LEAD ASSIST- Lurch. Close friend and tabletop roleplayer / general roleplayer.

Right now, we have player and princess stats as well as 3 melee, 4 magic, 3 ranged, and 6 mixed classes as well as 3 npc classes that players can choose from.

I am currently working princess active abilities, passive effects/ abilities, and reward items. After this task is completed, playtesting will go underway and tweaks will be made as needed.
