The fewer princesses you have, the more loot you can get because you're not having to distribute it as much.

Though I consider the princesses to be their own reward.

It seems like a properly built knight wouldn't need their help. Even a weak one could just go with one or two particularly powerful princesses.

Well think of it this way.

Ever generation needs a reason NOT to take princesses.

Otherwise you ALWAYS go for the harem option.

The Princesses are rewards onto themselves, so you need an incentive to -not- take them rather than just immediately jumping for the harem option you know?

The way to incentivize fewer princesses is through the dice pool- you get four dice to spread to your princess' class to fight the bosses with. >>1091 for example, Gnome rolls to see how advanced her creations are, and Minotaur rolls to see how well she breaks through walls or bowls over mobs. More dice means higher rolls means better results.

Minotaur can either kill anything(at range) or break anything.

What I'll do is have one build god, then the other kill him.

It's always been related to some kind of GM or someone interpreting everything on the chart, anon. By default it's run a lot like Quests or Text Adventures. Basically it's all entirely GM/Writer fiat unless we get dedicated rules for it.

Yeah you can interpret it like that if you want but I doubt if you hot someone to run it for you, were writing fiction, making a text adventure, or running a rules lite homebrew with it you would interpret it that way.

I know I wouldn't let you do that if I were running some kind of quest for it.

In general. Bad choice of words though, It's always come down to someone just interpreting everything in a way that works best for the current situation. Aka fiat. Older charts have been purposed for Quests and homebrews. Which both involve some kind of GM. Otherwise you're the "GM" and it's going to be as broken as you make it but it doesn't affect other players or anything at that point so it doesn't matter. Gen IV seems like it's going to be very rules lite if it has additional rules and dice rolls.

Also I agree that it's weird to have a smaller party kick more ass than a larger party. You need a 2d system where groups excel in one axis and individuals excel in the other.

Dice are never actually ROLLED during the CYOA. People can just say "oh alright, they're less experienced. Oh well." and move on, assuming victory.

Depending on how you write the loot, one piece of loot per princess could be its own punishment.
Give each item an ability that comes in 3 levels, and the level of the item depends on the number of items the princess has. So one princess gets all four lv 3 items, four princesses each get one level 1 item, and a princess with two items gets two level 2 items.
If you have three princesses, you may pick which princess gets the fourth item.

Alright gave it some thought- we do away with the dice system, go with the earlier suggestion of Smuhg having teleported the knight to the new land with a four person cart. Each boss of the four has one piece of extremely valuable loot- you can carry one piece on your person but the rest take a cart slot. Back to the roots of this CYOA.

Gen II was really bad at that. In fact most all of the renounces were good. In fact I think fairy and assassin had the only renounces I straight up didn't want, and DPII's is questionable if you don't think that some of the curses would transfer well to your harem members.

It worked when the curses really sucked. They actually were more of a pain in the ass but then we started coming up with fun effects for them and so the tone shifted. Gen 2 would probably be the first Gen I'd do some tweaking on actually.

True she is a cutie but I was a little disappointed in her antenna and that her claws didn't seem to pop.

So I used my best MS paint skills to produce this.

Also I thought she should have a little more love then the minotaur who actively dislikes men at first.

A mechanical thing like that that's directly opposed to in-character concerns just mandates metagaming. Not to mention, most people don't play that way anyway. Even if you really like the idea of this getting played out as a tabletop game, it's still actually a CYOA.

I imagine Mushroom princess looking something like this with the cap covering the eyes and such. Also bioluminescent and should have psychoactive/hallucinatory/psychedelic spores/fluids. Could make her hippie princess even.

Just wanted to post a little update so that people don't start wondering if I've just disappeared without a trace- taking a little break from Gen IV to do some pressing art stuff I owe to other people, will be back in probably a day or two. Any discussion the not made princesses to get ideas out before then is most welcome- I'll still be checking in on the thread.

Well here is a couple of reference images I have found then.

I think a more subdued figure for mushroom princess would be best. Not really curvy, more tomboyish. The cap looking sort of like a bobed haircut if you will.

Clothing wise if you do go for clothing could be shawls.

I almost imagine that Mushroom princess would be really shy with her eyes covered by her cap.

Class wise I think a posion mage who uses her spores as weapon could be a good way to do it. Then for her other class maybe a healing class would work? Or a brewer who makes beer with plump helments.

I thought of another way she can be of use. In a game called Legend of Mana, you can fight a mushroom based enemy who attacks by throwing their cap at you. This could be her secound class option, a ranged class basically.

I kind of imagine her getting startled and pulling the cap down further over her face, lifting it up now and again to stare at you while blushing

I just realized how much of a good combo Halfling princess and Sphinx princess will be. Epic larps with the disguise kit, epic dnd games with jackal, sphinx, and halfling. Man I can picture it with jackal tactician as the DM.
