Hey /rpgmg/, the demo for my Towergirl Strategical RPG is kinda ready and I want you to give it a look.

Right now some dialogues and features are missing, everything that can be assimilated to art sux, but unexpectedly the mechanichs are working.

Basically, there are 3 factions ( 10-12 in the end product ) that are warring on default in the demo; you can help them developing techs/defenses etc. that will advantage them against their enemies or directly partecipate in battles.

Sieges and princess saving shenanigans are there as are other things better explained in the demo itself.

While talking to the human princess, I got locked in the conversation/menu of the castle. When I tried to back out of her convo, she would say goodbye, and it would bring up the menu for going to the castle or meeting her, but then I couldn't back out any further. Had to reset.

Little update:

-1 new adult event

-lot of bugtesting

-implemented the 4th faction

So it was (INSECTS) and bugs everywhere.

Now, before releasing 0.4 for you to try, I would like to add one of those:

-Implement Dragon Princess, not as a factionm but as a periodical kick in the balls for a random faction;

-Implement Items (not shitty potions, but twgrl items that will work in game);

-Add a rivalry system that will let kingdoms declare war on eachother based on : startegical value of the cities they control, how much they are near each other, affinity between themself.

-Implement the Princess Mansion, that will work has a hub to deposit/withdraw the princesses you captured ( to do so I'll have to make so princesses can be party members too).

So much to do…

v0.4 of my Towergirl SRPG.

Changelog:

-Fully implemented Dragon Princess Mechanic (when the total kingdoms wealth exceed a certain limit she occupy the richest one, sucking his WP, but defending them from the next siege);

-Fully implemented 4th faction : Insects , to unlock them you need to occupy Human city with Golems after hiring Drider in the Golem ranks;

-lotsa bugs removed (but there will be more new ones!)

Just for the demo, since the debug menu fucks up the entire Dragon Princess thing, I've set the wealth points to increase faster, and the required score to wake up the dragon lower than it's intended to be, but you will still need 4-5 minutes in the map at least, before she unlocks.

Don't use the debug menu if you want to try Dragon Princess correctly.

pretty cool idea you got going on here, I'm actually working on a Towergirl based SRPG right now myself, I think it'll be interesting to see how our games grow different from one another! Mines in 3d with voxel based characters, im working on getting combat working now, and am taking a lot more influence from sonny and other quick RPGS I'll probably make a thread later. What's new:

-Insects are now working;

-Skeletons are new and fully working;

-Now annexed cities of a losing faction in a siege will pass to the winning part;

-Balanced the required power difference for sieges:

Capital->Capital 8

Capital->Province 6

Province->Capital 10

-lot of bugs fixed

-5 unique princesses items (Dowries), the basic ones, the ones incoming are WAY cooler:

Wedding Rings (teleport to a capital)

Shining Egg (+1 Army Point to the target every 5 minutes, maxes out at 5 AP)

Royal Jelly (+2 Wealth)

Grandfather Sword (Automatically win a fight)

Heir's Coin (+1 Wealth to a faction for every Princess Love point you got with her)

-Travelling Merchant selling Dowries (some unlocked after events), you will have short windows of time to reach the city where he's enstabilished.

-Fixed a ridiculous amount of bugs ( but there's always more!)

Now I'll focus on bugfixing, polish, adding events and items.

Then I'll keep adding factions, until you'll need an 8-core to run this thing.

Hello erryone, while working on ghost I would like to introduce the new mechanics I'm working on, meaning:

Population(POP); it's an absolute value, having a higher POP than your enemies gives a bonus in battle.If POP reaches 0 the kingdom disappears.

Population growth rate(PGR); if positive POP increases gradually, if negative POP decreases gradually. The PGR is calculated from: TAX level, Wealth, number of wars and a factor specific for every race (es. rabbit->high, skeleton->low specific growth value).

The tax level will be set on standard from the beginning but you can influence the regent to change it if you have enough affinity with her reign.

Setting the tax level to high will minimize a population growth rate but maximize the wealth growth, meaning it will become stronger in both ATK and DEF (but if it reaches 0 POP is game over!).

Another bug, After the Slime Princess saves you from drowning, the knight sprite is stuck facing up. You can move around freely, but can only interact with stuff above you. I managed to fix it at some point, but don't remember how.

also the desert warriors fighting the skeleton army are golems.

For the southern part of the reing I'm evaluating different options and I would like you to tell me what you think it's better.

-The southern part of the map should be open from the start of the game.

-The southern part of the map should open after a set time. Before that time the 6 kingdoms will work as the northern ones (so they can declare war/conquer to eachother ), but the player won't be able to intervene on their wars before the border opens.

-The southern part of the map should open after a set time. Before that time the 6 kingdoms should be frozen, and start in their initial condition when the border opens.

Bugfixes everywhere:

Seal Tower cannot be bypassed anymore;

Ghost Princess can now be invoked as intended!

Resolved all/most of all of the screen-not-fading-in bugs, please report if you encounter more!

Fairy Princess text is now readable!

The optimization patch caused Dragon P II, Merchant P, Assassin P events and many more to not work, so it was removed, the FPS will drop, but I will work to optimize the game in other ways.

I'm not even sure if the saves will be loaded without that script, maybe you'll have to restart the game.

I announce now that next patch will be all about 18+ events and optimization of the game!

Check the bed and the cage in the abandoned room.

The hero will understand something has been lurking there recently.

Then visit golem princess, drider will be alerted you looked in her room and will hide.

You can now wake up golem princess.

Once shes awake you can go to the abandoned room to fight drider.

If you beat her, spare her and convince her to beg for golem's forgiveness they will team up.

Now if golem conquer human city the insects will awake.

The battle system is certainly very interesting, although I think the hitboxes should be tweaked a little. It's very finicky and takes near perfect timing to melee an enemy without taking a hit yourself.

I'm thinking, either give the player attacks a bigger/clearer hitbox or maybe change the way enemies attack since right now it feels more like outright contact damage, which is pretty annoying when you have to practically be right next to them to land a hit. Maybe choreograph attacks more/give a split second window to evade instead of instantly.

Aside from that it works pretty well.

Could we at least get a bigger delay between attacks? The enemies pretty much spam you ATM, and it's almost impossible to dodge ranged enemies because their projectiles move so fast.

Every enemy has a different CD, assassins attack faster, while there are other that attack every 2-3 seconds.

Mind that all the tweaking has been done for the next version, I haven't touched this demo in the last 2 weeks.

Are you going to completely remove the old portraits from the game? While the new portraits are fucking fantastic, I think the old portraits should still be somewhere as homage to the original content.

So, is it possible to recruit princesses other than kobold at the moment? Even with all of the dialogues completed I can't seem to make a princess come with me after a siege. Alternatively can I revive them from their captured soul or something?

Sure, you can hire all the faction leaders + Dragon Princess II, but you need to have the at least the necessary amount of affinity with them (you can check it as the lil' hearts in the status screen).

I'm guessing dodging will both:

-be accompanied by obvious/semi-obvious attack cues for enemies

and

-will not work on every attack (eg: large-scale breath/explosions)

Right now enemies attack without any sort of animation, it's just based on cooldowns, but that will a problem I'll try to overcome when I'll have a sprite artist doing only that 24/7.

You got it right, it doesn't work on large scale attacks and AoE, only against physical attacks and single target magic ones.

I very much like the change in fighting system. Feels faster and easier to understand but also just as enjoyable

My strategy was circle around her, sneak in, land a hit, run out before she can melee or fire me in the face. Beat her without having to grind too much. (Level 3 on both Knight and Bold)
