Board Confederacy Project

 No.1094[Reply]

I've been so focused on getting my life together that I've forgotten once again to try and get this board more traffic.

As another anon said, I think it's a good idea to try and post something every day to keep the board alive. The board has been around for over a year now, and I'd like to keep it going even longer if possible.

I had time to manage the board every day, and still do, but my memory is absolutely terrible.

I'll do what I can to keep this going, and thanks to those dedicated to keeping it alive. It's my favorite place on the internet, despite how little I'm on.

I just stumbled upon this board from >>>/b//4531205

Interesting stuff.

I love threads like that. I've found a lot of cool boards through them.

>>>/late/ and

>>>/urbex/ are some I really liked, and

>>>/8lounge/ is a wonderful place.

If you're looking for more boards, you can check the Board Confederacy Project. Link in the announcement bar.

Dudes.

You know who owns 4chan now? The guy who founded 2ch. The guy who got fired for being an idiot and selling user data.

 No.1074

Reading his Q&A was darkly funny. The dude barely knows what's going on. I'm guessing whoever was running things before (rapeape?) will continue to run things while Hiroshima acts as a cute engrish figurehead.

 No.1075

Do you think he'd re-add the textboards on 4chan if enough of us asked? He keeps telling people to make strawpolls to vote for new stuff, so i made one.

http://strawpoll.me/5558369

 No.1076

>>1075

Why would we want that? Is there some reason we would want this guy to actually do anything? Even if 4chan made a txt board it would still have the same problems as the rest of the site such as horrible mods, infested with moralfags, etc.

 No.1081

>>1076

More like no mods, infested with nobody, etc.

 No.1090

How do you feel of Jim Watkins, former business partner of Hiroyuki and current owner of 8ch?

I watched the "press conference" and he pretty much did the same as Hiroyuki, repeatedly saying that he didn't sell user data. Not sure who to believe. I guess we'll have to see what becomes of the lawsuit Hiroyuki mentioned in the Q&A.

Nobody implied there was. There are many problems with Atheists however.

 No.734

Reading through the >>>/cyber/ book recommendations. Just finished Stand on Zanzibar. It's amazing how a guy from the 50's accurately predicted the frightening future of 2012 where degeneracy is normal and the president is black and everyone is hypnotized by the media.

 No.737

>>725
Nothing so exciting, unfortunately. Chances are if I were employed in genetics, I'd already know everything Dawkins talks about.

I'm doing summer work for a university as a research assistant. My job's actually to do a broad review of the third sector (as in, charity) and say where it'll be in thirty years or so. I dedicated a few pages to genetic explanations of altruism, because I find it interesting and I think I can spin it as useful.

 No.741

Just started Halting State by Charles Stross. I've previously read Accelerando and wanted to delve into his other stuff.

(Accelerando is greatest all time potential btw)

 No.1089

I'm getting back into reading, but it's frustrating because my comprehension has completely whittled to shit. My eyes skim through entire paragraphs that mine as well be written in moonrunes no matter how slowly I read them, so now the plan is to treat myself like a fucking first grader and carefully annotate what's going on in each sentence until I cure myself of semi-retardation.

Decided to start with Blood Meridian, which was fine at first but it gradually became more descriptive and I began losing the motivations of some of the characters. No idea if that's a poor book for someone like me to start out with, but it's all I have for now.

 No.547[Reply]

What led you to 8chan and why do you stay here?

Just curious.

For me, I don't remember how I got here. I almost want to say I saw an ad for it on 4chan (this would have been months before Septermber/gamergate stuff), but that seems somewhat unlikely to me. Maybe I saw a thread about places where you can make your own *chan style board, that seems more likely. At any rate...no idea what brought me here.

I stay because I'm addicted to image boards and this one feels much more cozy than 4chan ever did.

Basically the same thing with me, felt something was coming on in August and when 8chan came along I was really excited. Never got into gamergate but but sided with it kind of by default.

It's so odd it's been a year. Feels like forever in some ways and like yesterday in others.

 No.1072

>>1064

Gamergate brought me here too. I feel like there aren't an 8chan users that weren't 4chan users in the past.

Has it really been a year? Good grief.

 No.1073

I felt like 4chan was crawling with normalfags, moralfags, cancer, etc. for well over a year. It was a completely different site almost, I'd quit browsing for about 3 years, came back to find my favorite boards had gone to shit. I only continued to go to a couple of generals that were comfy most of the time, plus /vr/.

When one of my generals suggested moving to 8chan, and I'd heard about the gamergate fiasco, I immediately was happy to jump ship. Pretty much every board reminded me of 2008-2009. It was like a time machine, the quality was great, even though some communities didn't come over, I felt like it didn't matter that much. I'm happy here. I wish there was more activity on other boards, but I would never go back to that shithole.

 No.1077

>>1073

Yeah, the low activity is probably the biggest problem with 8chan right now. I feel like hotwheels thinks the solution to that problem is moar new blood, but I can't imagine attracting the kind of people who are still over at 4chan or who infest the rest of the internet in general.

8chan/b/ is getting enough shitposts from "tumblr" users who ask "why are you all awful?"

 No.1078

>>1072

I think you'd have to be around 13 to go on 8chan first. We're all definitely 4chan imports, for better or for worse.

 No.494[Reply]

What are some boards that have great potential to be good, but are ruined because almost no one posts there anymore?

I think >>>/debate/ could be an excellent place to casually debate any topic

>>>/poverty/ could be an excellent board for helping average people save money and help poor people deal with being poor.

Hey, I like my >>>/videogames/. It's fun.

 No.772

>>769
Yeah, that's actually a really good board. It can't replace /v/, but it's a nice addition.

 No.1059

I like >>>/netplus/ and >>>/late/

/late/ has posters and is alright, /netplus/ started as hardcore technology security and privacy discussions but died pretty quickly.

 No.1062

>>515

Not the guy you're replying to, but internet debates that rely completely on text typed quickly is that you lose tone, inflection, etc.

Specifically chan debates are an even worse idea. Without an identity (tripcodes don't count) or any reputation on the line it takes a HUGE degree of intellectual honesty to change your opinion. Similarly, 3rd party trolls can pretty much derail any thread/debate and with no way to verify identities you have no idea who said what and what you're actually replying to/arguing against.

Dear /text/

I’m at the end of my rope. The job market is brutal, I’ve been out of college for a year, have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and can’t seem to get a break. I had my first interview a few days ago and hours later after going through it I got rejected. I’ve been jobless for going on two years in a handful of months. Circumstance prevented me from getting more volunteer work and prevented me from taking on an internship which probably would had given me a greater chance of getting a job.

Now I’m taking a gamble on Patreon writing porn in an attempt to make a living wage and support myself. I don’t want to wake up one day and still end up living at home with my mother at the age of 40 with no means of contributing or having my own family. So I went about one other route to get a chance to support myself. But its hard...very hard.

I honestly don’t know where to begin. None of my friends will pitch for me and I can’t convince anyone to give me a shot, and I heard that its even more difficult for people to give money to someone on these things if no one else has even thrown down any money.

I had decided to get more serious in my pornographic writings and am working on a long story that’s porn with plot. All the smut WITH character development, world building, mythology and lore.

I’m here asking what can I possibly do, where can I possibly go to make THIS stand out more? There is a lot more info on the Patreon, otherwise I risk being redundant:
