Where did all the textboarders go? The only moderately paced textboards in english that I know of are SAOVQ, and 4-ch's DQN, but those are just shitposting. How do we revive textboard culture?

one of my ideas is to make an app for mobile devices that lets you post on anonymous textboards and get alerts when there are new posts. Most 2ch users already use stuff like Jane now, so maybe it could catch on in america.

Well, textboards aren't popular at all in the west. They're far more popular in Japan, but I don't know Japanese, so I'm here.

I guess people just don't like having discussions or something.
The only way I could see textboards getting popular in the west is if it had some kind of shitty social networking twist on it. The west loves shitty social networking.

i think reaction images are really the big difference between 2chan and 4chan. if you browse 2chan you'll notice that using images to show a reaction is actually much rarer than how often it's used on western boards. Personally, I think reaction images are usually just a crutch that people use because they can't communicate or type normally anymore. Same with using greentext to tell a story, something that actually didn't happen much before late 2008.
