I'm in two minds about western content. Where should the line be drawn? If non-Japanese content were to be banned that would exclude manhua and work from other asian countries. If all 3D were to be banned, then there's no JAV or idol threads. Is art drawn by western artist to be allowed if it focuses on content of Japanese origin? Or is all western produced content forbidden?
Overall western content isn't something I care for but I'm willing to acknowledge that the west has improved on in regards to quality of work. As long as it's confined to one thread and maybe a literature thread, I would allow it.
Anything is up for debate. I'm more than happy to just go with what anons want. I believe that moderation should reflect the wishes of the community.
Another thing that I feel needs to be added to the rules is something about drama within the community. I don't want to stop discussion of other yuri sites and content providers. This isn't a hug box, anons should feel able to give critism. However inane shitflinging between posters on 4/u/ is another serious problem the board has that I do not want here.

My suggestion is that while we allow good quality Western fanart of Japanese media, Western topics (Frozen, Korra, Steven Universe, etc.) should be contained in a single Western General thread. Any image or discussion of westernshit outside the general should be deleted to maintain board integrity. I am looking to take on another BV. I'm working on getting a scanlation group together for 8/u/ releases and the other BV can't always be around when I'm not. I will also be spending a short time hospital at some point.

I would be interested in doing that. There's a lot of redrawing to be done, which isn't a problem for me and if any potential 8/u/ editors are interested I'll show them how it's done. Finding a TL is proving to be a problem. The TLs I know are very focused on a few series, some a reluctant to do yuri in general because of what happened to 4/u/. Convincing other scanlators to give this place a chance is going to be harder than I thought. Hopefully things will change when I get the ftp up and running.

Regarding what happened earlier, I agree with the BV's actions. I've now deleted the thread because it wasn't going anywhere. Debate is not going to be censored and some times derails happen. I know for a fact that /pol/lacks do browse /u/, they just don't force their ideology on the board. This is why words such as degeneracy aren't filtered because it has never been a major issue on either 8/u/ or 4/u/. 4/u/ is now heavily politicised. It's not just a board for the discussion of yuri, it's yuri and social justice. It doesn't help that the board's main moderator is a biased and incompetent SJW, as revealed by /irc/.

I've been doing some digging around. There are currently no archives of 4/u/ before 2013. The dumps on archive.moe go back to 2011. Once archive.moe is taken down, these could be lost if no one comes forward to host them. I consider old 4/u/ part of 8/u/'s history and I don't want to see that removed from the internet.
I think that renting a virtual server and hosting a Fool Fuuka archiver for 4/u/ posts between 2011 and the end of 2013, is a worth while use of the funds I have set aside for 8/u/. The /u/ archives have already been heavily butchered, being in the hands of the anons that were orginally there, making those posts, would mean that they are safe from further molestation. When HW releases 8ch archiving software, we could even host an archive for 8/u/ itself. Having an 8/u/ server would also open up all sorts of different ways to host content for ourselves and not be dependant on sites like Dynasty and Nyaa.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
I know that there isn't much of a reason to trust me yet. I believe I have delivered on the promise of a yuri board free from social justice bullshit. However I have utterly failed to provide any scanlation content. This is for a number of reasons. Firstly my health isn't great. As a cleaner I rely on my eyesight and at the moment I can't trust what I see. I can level and clean greyscale by using the histogram but what I've imported is full fucking colour artbooks and doujinshi. I refuse to put out releases that don't meet my usual standards, especially under the banner of 8/u/. Secondly, convincing other scanlators to give this place a chance is hard. This is a problem on 8/a/ as well. The only release by 8/a/ was done by an anon TL and me. The only board that I've seen produce it's own scanlations is /monster/. I was even dimissed by SHiN when I asked if he would like work with me. Thirdly, I hate to describe it this way but I am still shackled to 4chan, I spend time every day working on content for certain 4/a/ community and have been for over a year. I suppose that what I'm trying to say is, I could do with some help.
I'm sorry if I'm ranting. I've been through the archives and reminded myself of how places like /u/ and /jp/ were destroyed and have become pissed off about it all over again.

I've been playing around with the new board software.
Changes that I've made
-I've upped the image cap to 10
-The board is limited to five pages. Here the limit is eight and we still have threads from a year ago, hopefully this will make to boat feel a bit faster a get people posting.
-Threads will autosage at 250 posts
-Threads will lock after 700 posts.
-I implemented the kappa CSS but there were a few interface glitches, so for now, it's back to the standard Next theme. At some point, probably once Next has been finalised I will implement a custom board theme and I will do it properly with a colour chart this time.
A few things about the changes to the mod interface.
Posting it here because it's useful for posters to know as well.
-I can no longer capcode as anonymous ## Board Owner. The volunteers won't be anonymous either. While I believe moderation should be visible, transparent and accountable, being able to see exactly what member of staff did what, is going to lead to accusations of mod bias and poster persecution. While I don't see it becoming an issue on /u/, it will be problem on bigger boards.
Posters are no longer given IDs and there doesn't seem to be a way view the post history of IPs. I'm not sure how I feel about this. It's not a feature I've ever needed to use here.

For the ad it's difficult to say. Before I spent around $60 and the ad was glitched, appearing on /a/ and /v/ for weeks. The board reached 30 active users. This time we had 27 active users and made the top 100 from using just four vouchers, which cost $20.
I will get to the Patreon page. I'll fill it out with the details of what I intend to do with the server, domain name, who I will be using for hosting and what the total cost for the year will be. This info will also be posted here of course. As I said before, I have never run a web server. There's still things I need to do more research on. The database management involved in running a Fuuka archiver is going to be new to me. I'm going to have to sit down with a book on MySQL and learn.
I have thought about perks. I was thinking of making up a box each for patrons. Each box would include hard copies of yuri doujinshi that I had scanned for 8/u/, along with other bonuses such as artbooks and nendos.

I'm not going to make any changes to the board until the move to NEXT. The mod and board settings panel are very slow and making changes usually results in a 503 error. I will definitely add hetshit it when word filters are made available in NEXT. I can't implement filters on short words because as was discovered when cis was filtered, it will unintentionally effect other words.

I don't ever remember "crack" being a term used, the general term for a pairing, crack or not, was simply "couple". "Shipping" comes from "relationship. This didn't start appearing until around 2011.

I'm not going to emulate 4/u/ and ban people for their opinions. Anons are free to express distaste or appreciation for what someone else has posted. I don't like having to implement rules through enforcement and exclusion. I'd rather leave it to the community to decide what they want on the board through self moderation.
If anyone does see something that does need staff attention then please report it. I don't browse 4/u/ and I don't think the BVs do either, so if it's an issue of 4chan drama spilling over, then it would help if you explain this to us.
tl;dr
Feel free to self moderate and use the report function. I'll add a filter when the move to NEXT is done. This will be similar to the filters already in place, so it will be more of a joke than a serious moderation method.

A few things
I will be running another ad. I have asked the BO of /lu/ if they want to do a joint campaign. While ads are useful for letting the rest of 8ch aware that /u/ exists, it could be useful to let anons know that /lu/ is there as well, especially for those that prefer that sort of content, as it doesn't have an audience here.
The 8/u/ server is coming along. I've got a handle on MySQL, it wasn't as difficult as I thought. I will now begin to look at using nginx rather than Apache. I may run a pomf.se clone, along with the Fuuka archiver and FTP. This will be dependent on available hosting.
This brings me to something I need help with, coming up with a name for the site itself. I was thinking of calling it lycorisarchive. Lycoris is the Latin name of the lilies found in Japan. Lycoris radiata is the red spider lily and Lycoris squamigera is the white lily.

I guess I just wanted to say that…I feel like things are going pretty good. I remember when I was just waiting on Octave releases, the only OTP for me was Kagami x Konata pretty much, and I'd have to wear yuri goggles for even a slight glimmer of hope. Now I have at least three releases that I consistently wait on and feel pretty happy when they come out (Their Story, Fluttering Feelings, and Lily Love), and so many goddam OTPs I can't even hold them. The status of the yuri genre seems pretty solid today. I'm feeling pretty damn good, almost as if this were a Golden Age.
It's one of the few things I can remain optimistic about these days, it seems.

The /cow/ thread is not to be taken too seriously. Josh is the admin of Kiwi Farms, which is basically a rival forum to /cow/, only much more autistic. The ED article on Josh has also been edited by /intl/, so it's accuracy can't be guaranteed. I've only just started learning about web development, so I can't really give any meaningful comments on it. The ED article is not /intl/'s work. It shouldn't be trusted anyway and rather interpreted as a clone of the Derek Smart legend. It is partly cowritten by Josh who sometimes delivers additional material to #ncr. The /cow/ thread is someone else. As Your BO mentioned, Josh also runs Kiwifarms which is the successor to cwcki forums. /cow/ and äncr in particular derive some some fearful theories from kiwifarms past and our situation today, but this is not that important. What is important is, that some kiwifarms users are very tsun-tsun for Josh.They hate their admin but their want his love. Another thing I want to address, although this should be written by the BO.
There are 3 possibilities for the future of 8chan:
The most likely one is Josh delivering a tailor made software for the 2ch's machines that were designed for running fucking 2ch as he said in his notes. The machines we are using now are simply too weak to run Next as it is.
The second one is fixing tinyboard+vichan. If you click on the first link, you will not find a website about Tinyboard's development but rather pramphlet that is proves STI, its former dev lost his shit. I have heard about other things about him I won't address, because the thing that still gets developed is vichan. Vichan has grave problems with I/O and makes some additions simply impossible, because the stuff is pretty primitive. If Hotwheels succeeds, 8chan will stay as it is for years.
The last possibility is Lynxchan, which has been made for the sole purpose of competing with Next. I have tested it several times and I can assure you that it won't solve our problems. First look at the picture. I tested it whether it could power something like >>>/irc/107 . It clearly can't. It fails at rendering huge texts, it may fail at rendering large image dumps and its only deployed instance, Endchan is suffering the same problems we have to deal with. As long these problems are fixed, deployment on 8ch remains a pipedream of its developer Stephen LYNX. That Endchan is run by Drybones who has a track record of failure* that started in summer 2014 and still hasn't come to an end doesn't help that software's case.
*So far he has botched gamergate.me, startbutton.net, 8archive (In contrary to Hotwheels I have been fooled often enough in my life. I recognize failure when I see it!) , gg wiki. Desustorage's hosting is also in his hands that could end gitgud and mixtape.moe

Yesterday one of these two things happened:
- Josh quit due to lan upstanding member of the yuri fandom of support from Hotwheels and 2ch.
- Josh has been fired for lying to Hotwheels about 2ch's involvement with Next.
How it happened
Around 19:30 on my end the beta instance of Infinity Next has been nuked and replaced with following weird message:

Shortly after Hotwheels announced that he will have a stream about this matter which he actually held six hours later. The aftermath
The vast majority of 8chan's user base wants to keep Vichan. This will lead to Hotwheels doing what he should have done 6 months ago according to my opinion. The next option voted in is Lynxchan, unless the number of people favoring salvaging next as it is grows to 150 more and the number of people favoring Lynxchan doesn't change at all.

I've been told that Hotwheels has had health issues which is something I can sympathise with. Was it unwise to put everything on Josh? It's not really for me to say, but it has been the smaller boards, that are trying to grow into full communities that have taken the hardest hit. I think /u/ has got off lightly, the speed at which the board can accessed as been fairly stable and there hasn't been a significant loss of data. However boards like /jp/ have lost over half their userbase.

The whole NEXT fiasco has had a negative impact on small boards overall. I once said to one of BVs over IRC that a good size to aim for would be around that of /jp/. At the time /jp/ had around 50 active users. Now /u/ has more users than /jp/. Even boards like /v/ and /a/ have seen a loss in active users. /v/ at one point had over 6000 UIPs. The whole site is in decline.

That being said, our hope of increasing the userbase lies in the yuri fandom outside of 8ch. There's always a contingent of yurifags out there who are just in to see Chinese cartoon girls kissing and not at all into tumblrshit, especially oldfags still on cuck/u/. If we pull something off to draw attention, there may be a steady trickle of posters, and there's a chance that some of them can contribute (news, shekels, scans, translations, drawfaggotry, etc). These contributions would drawn in more traffic, and it pretty much builds up from there.
This board has so much potential. It already has a philosophy laid out in place that distinguishes it from other yuri sites, and the mods so far managed to avoid excessive rulecucking while keeping the board neat and tidy (a remarkable feat for a board of this size). I feel as though we're just one step away from hitting something big. I believe in you, BO.

This is what I think as well. I've run ads and it seems the most we get is 30 users. Informing those on cuck/u/ of our existance is going to be difficult. The main obstacle is woodcuck. He rules over 4/u/ with a grip tight enough to keep a hotpocket on his microdick and deletes anything he doesn't like with anal compulsion. This includes deleting any mention of 8/u/.

I have always believed this and I thought I was the one that could really make this board into what it could be. So far that hasn't happened. I've been stable in policy and presence, I also have the two BVs behind me, who have been wonderful.

The non-canon pairing issue is 4chan in origin and has been happening there for years, to the point where it's a major moderation issue on both 4/a/ and 4/u/. I have no intention of letting it take hold here. Without going into too much detail it's usually two people, sometimes by-standers get involved. One person baits the other into arguing by posting art of non-canon couples, with the aim of getting him banned.
I highly doubt anyone from the Dynasty forums, or any other yuri forum would come here. I mentioned Dynasty as it a site for scanlation. From my experience in #dynasty-scans, they view 8ch as a frightening lawless place, thanks to places like, /baphomet/, /cow/ and /pol/. The posters I want to attract are disillusioned 4/a/ and 4/u/ anons, who are looking for higher quality, more relaxed, yuri discussion with less retarded moderation.

Hashtags work like this type # then whatever else follows with no spaces. Usernames have an @ then the name. That's the bulk of what you need to know to actually use twitter. There is an instant messaging system on twitter between people following one another but that's private and a lot of that shit can turn pretty sketchy.
On whether we should have a twitter or not. I don't know. Just don't let twitter get to you is my suggestion. Only 140 characters means all conversation on twitter is dogshit. Maybe have a request thread as well on /u/ if we ever get any translators.
I have bad experiences with twitter turning people into drama queens thanks to Gamergate. Nobody knows when to just walk away or quit responding. You don't have to respond to anything on twitter. I just find that the population on twitter tends to be really prone to retardation and corruption. Also since your actually involved in scanlation I imagine you might have to use the thing yourself. I don't know if we really want to bring in the twitter retards or some of the drama of the scanlation community either. Drama is always cancer.
