The most active yuri board on 8chan!

File: 1455254187817.jpg (94.89 KB, 700x763, 100:109, mikos.jpg)

 No.3329

Me and the board owner were talking on Rizon in #8/u/ (mandatory plug) and I got to wondering just how many posters we have and how familiar with old 4chan /u/ they actually are and how they even heard of this board etc. So I've come up with a small list of questions that I'd like you to answer just so we can get to know the board's population a bit better. I'll also answer my own questions.

1. How long have you been browsing 8/u/ - and how often do you check 8/u/?

I'm probably the oldest poster on this board (in terms of when I began posting) and responsible for a large number of the threads created here. This board came into existence around the time GG's first exodus happened IIRC. Some of my posts from 2014 are still here in this thread: http://8ch.net/u/res/78.html - I know I have a few earlier posts but that was one of the threads I made that I still remember making. For a time it felt like I was the only one here and other people might post maybe once in a blue moon. Recently things have got a little more active here.

For a while I only checked once a week (that's how slow it was) although recently I've been checking multiple times a day (which is a little too much at this time but a good sign IMO).

2. How'd you even hear about 8/u/?

I just immediately looked for yuri after arriving on 8ch during the exodus.

3. Did you browse 4chan's /u/ and how long did you browse?

A number of years since at least 2010. Was familiar and watched yuri prior to then but had no where to talk about it so I got annoyed and searched around before settling on 4/u/.

4. How familiar are you with yuri?

Extremely.

5. What are you favorite yuri series (can list as many as you want)?

Kannazuki no Miko

6. Favorite Yuri Pairings?

The Big Three: Shiznat (Shizuru/Natsuki), Shiznag(Shizuma/Nagisa), Chimeko(Chikane/Himeko)

1. How long have you been browsing 8/u/ - and how often do you check 8/u/?

Since I came to 8ch with a group of anons from /a/ who were unhappy with the moderation and general state of the site. 8/a/ was still known as /anime/ at the time

I check the board throughout the day to see if there's any spam or the rare report. Before I became the BO, I used to check once every other day for new posts.

2. How'd you even hear about 8/u/?

It was linked in a thread on /anime/.

3. Did you browse 4chan's /u/ and how long did you browse?

I came to 4chan somewhere around the end of 2007. I'd spent many years lurking forums. I'm quite shy and didn't feel comfortable maintaining an online identity. Finding 4chan was a great relief, not only was there a board where I could discuss anime anonymously, there was a board where other people actually wanted to post and talk about yuri.

I stayed as a regular on 4/u/ up until 2012, when I started visiting the board less. Old 4/u/ was slow but it was always full of content, information and interesting posts. I started getting banned for reporting western content and was getting told to fuck off to /jp/ by the invading tumblrites, I didn't see the point in contributing to a board where I wasn't welcome.

4. How familiar are you with yuri?

I've watched anime all my life, starting with dubs as a child and then I moved onto subs when I discovered Kazaa. I was introduced to yuri through mahou shojou. I don't read as much manga as I used to, now I don't really get into a series unless I'm the one cleaning it.

5. What are you favorite yuri series (can list as many as you want)?

Marimite

6. Favorite Yuri Pairings?

Yomi/Sachiko, Yui/Kyouko, Ritsu/Mio, Michiru/Haruka

>1. How long have you been browsing 8/u/ - and how often do you check 8/u/?

It's been several months since I started coming to this board on a regular basis, and nowadays I try to browse and generate activity here daily.

>2. How'd you even hear about 8/u/?

Same answer as BV.

>3. Did you browse 4chan's /u/ and how long did you browse?

Started browsing cuck/u/ in late 2010/early 2011, around the same time I discovered 4chan. I still visit cuck/u/ from time to time, but only to check out new releases and trigger t/u/mblr mods.

>4. How familiar are you with yuri?

Best of friends with yuri. Volunteered to take yuri's place inside a botched spacecraft. Parachute failed to deploy during reentry. Cursed and screamed at the heavens as I crashed into the Kazakh steppes at 1200 km per hour. A mangled, charred mass of organic matter was all that was left of me.

And I did it all for yuri.

>5. What are you favorite yuri series (can list as many as you want)?

First two seasons of Yuru Yuri

>6. Favorite Yuri Pairings?

Kirika/Shirabe (Symphogear)

Shizuku/Eris (Sono Hanabira)

1. How long have you been browsing 8/u/ - and how often do you check 8/u/?

For only about 7-8 months I think, came here around late August 2015. I always have the meta thread open in my browser, so I check the board a few times daily.

2. How'd you even hear about 8/u/?

I've always been aware that /u/ was the yuri board on the chans but I first lurked a bit around /v/ at the start of 2015, acted like a faggot for a bit, then expanded out to other boards. Eventually remembered the above and decided to check it out.

3. Did you browse 4chan's /u/ and how long did you browse?

You might not actually believe this but I'm actually relatively new and as such have never posted on cuck/u/. And when I saw the front page, I was shocked by how disgusting it was. I was the person who did that really long summary of events. >>2857

Mainly so I could get my head around how cuck/u/ had fallen and why there were so many western threads on the board.

4. How familiar are you with yuri?

Extensively. I was a hotpocket for a now dead hentai site. Came across the Shoujo Sect animation one day and decided to watch that. I had some inkling as to what yuri was but that opened my eyes. It was a bit clumsy and messy, so I decided to follow up by reading the manga. And that's pretty much how it sucked me in, built up an archieve manga collection (That was almost lost when my C: drive died, luckily got the names of the manga so I just re-downloaded them again) and here I am. It took me a few years to appreciate yuri but I honestly like the genre and that coming from me, if anyone in my life knew that. I'd probably die of embarrassment.

I'm a little bit anxious talking to other people and I still act like a faggot, but I try not to let that happen.

5. What are you favorite yuri series (can list as many as you want)?

Shoujo Sect.

Utena.

Aoi Hana.

When Marnie Was There.

Ebisu-san and Hotei-san.

Pieta

Husky & Medley

Prism

The Miko's Words and The Witch's Incantations

Yuri Danshi

LoveDeath

Out of the Blue

Honey & Mustard

Anything by Amangakure Gido

Anything by Itou Hachi

I could name a few dozen one shots but I'll stop there.

6. Favorite Yuri Pairings?

FumixAkira

ShinobuxMomokoxMaya

OsaxTsuNami

UtenaxAnthy

I have a few more minor ones, but they're mostly fandom stuff that's a bit shallow.

Excuse my clouded memory.

>1. How long have you been browsing 8/u/ - and how often do you check 8/u/?

4-5 months, maybe. I don't remember very well. When I can, I check the board everyday, searching for some interesting threads.

>2. How'd you even hear about 8/u/?

I was browsing 8chan after reading about it on cuckchan's /v/, wondered if the site had a /u/ board and, so, here I am.

>3. Did you browse 4chan's /u/ and how long did you browse?

My first contact with cuck/u/ was around 2009, I guess. 4chan's layout was very different around that time and the Yuri board barely had posts. If we had at last 4 replies a day, it was a miracle.

I quit the board when shipping wars and personal blogging became too common. 2011 ou 2012, maybe.

>4. How familiar are you with yuri?

Very familiar. I read, and, rarely, play a lot of yuri stuff.

>5. What are you favorite yuri series (can list as many as you want)?

Strawberry Panic wasn't the best anime ever, but, for being my intro to yuri, has a very special place in my Yuri list. The same goes to Simoun and Mai-Otome.

>6. Favorite Yuri Pairings?

This is a bit hard for me to say. While I do have my favorite couples, I'm not too into shipping. Just seeing two girls together doing cute or sexy things makes me happy. I'm that simple.

From the top of my head:

-Mami/Any Puella, because Mami is awesome.

-Homura/Madoka

-Tamao/Nagisa, Shizuma/Nagisa

-Nina/Eristin

-Dominura/Rimone

Yeah I remember when /u/ was extremely slow. Prefer it now looking back. I started around that time too. Real HiME, KnM, and SP fan back then although I recently finally watched Otome and I wish i had seen it sooner. Wasn't the greatest /u/ anime but tons of lesbians and I had some problems with the direction but the politics and universe were interesting and I'd like to see more of it but with less focus on the school.

>Strawberry Panic wasn't the best anime ever, but, for being my intro to yuri, has a very special place in my Yuri list.

Whenever I re-watch this show I mostly skip around some of the worse episodes that typically don't feature Shizuma at all. Basically binge watch all the Shiznag stuff cause that's really the best part of SP just cause of the sheer sexiness of Shizuma.

>Mami/Any Puella, because Mami is awesome

The biggest problem I have with PMMM is that it's impossible to pair Mami up with anyone due to all the other girls being closer to someone else. Mami is truly forever alone.

I really need to get around to watching Simoun.

Same here, although I watched Otome first and Hime after. While I love Otome's plot and world, Hime has a better character focus and characterization, imo.

I just fell in love with Hime's Haruka, for example. Here, she is a bit more than a side character and has a good screentime (mostly thanks to Yukino, yeah, but still). A silly yet loveable girl.

Only picked KnM for the /m/ stuff. Didn't like series or the characters after all.

About Strawberry Panic, I try to not look into it too much. The anime is just a lesbian chinese cartoon version of your average Telenovela with Nagisa and Shizuma playing Helena and Carlos, but, for a kinda old Yuri, is ok. We didn't had a lot of options back when it aired, anyway.

The only thing that makes me mad is the hideous character design. Holy shit, man…

>Those legs made of sticks

>Those ugly bodies

>Those needle necks

At last the manga was something better in that department. A shame it was cancelled.

>The biggest problem I have with PMMM is that it's impossible to pair Mami up with anyone due to all the other girls being closer to someone else. Mami is truly forever alone.

Ditch the monogamy and join to the best side, anon. The side of the foursomes and more. We have drinks, lots of love and sex.

Btw, yes, go watch Simoun. While the "girls can choose to be male or female at certain age" may be a bit off-putting for a Yuri fan at the beginning, is actually not that troubling and even well done in the anime.

>Only picked KnM for the /m/ stuff. Didn't like series or the characters after all.

I think this show really benefits from a rewatch. The middle still is a bit sucky (cause Souma gets more focus there) but Chikane and Himeko actually spend a great deal of time together and the romance is actually very well done. Overall on rewatch I thought this show was way better although the first time I watched it was one of those awful streaming sites. I felt modern subs are far better too cause they didn't translate some of the lines over that really spell out just how close the two are throughout in earlier subs. Also having complete knowledge of the yuri genre on rewatch helps the whole thing immensely cause there is so much damn subtext.

>The only thing that makes me mad is the hideous character design. Holy shit, man…

To be fair when they are in the uniforms they look way better. Especially the miator ones. I'd state it's more the OP being absolutely awful. Shizuma always looks great in the show and Nagisa is basically the cute moe for Shizuma to have fun with - I really wish they actually focused more on her friendship with Shizuma instead of some of the other crap in the show (like Spica and the loli episodes) although Shizuma seducing Nagisa was always great.

>Same here, although I watched Otome first and Hime after. While I love Otome's plot and world, Hime has a better character focus and characterization, imo.

Yeah I'd agree with this.

>I just fell in love with Hime's Haruka, for example. Here, she is a bit more than a side character and has good screentime (mostly thanks to Yukino, yeah, but still). A silly yet loveable girl.

The manga version has her as an actual HiME (although Shizuru isn't a HiME at all or even important to the story so it's a give and take) but you should maybe check that out although it does turn Natsuki straight for Takumi and some other things.

I did like how Haruka was a general although I wish they did more with her in Otome. Seeing her and Shizuru team up was a real pleasure to witness. Oddly I actually find Yukino a little boring for Haruka. I'd rather pair her with someone like Shizuru. Problem is I'd rather not break apart Shiznat and Yukino/Haruka to do so. Although both Shizuru and Natsuki have "friends" - Yukino actually is basically written solely as a potential lover of Haruka and never really interacts with other segments of the cast outside of being Haruka's shadow. This is in both shows IIRC. She needs some actual friends.

>Ditch the monogamy and join to the best side, anon. The side of the foursomes and more. We have drinks, lots of love and sex.

Happy non cheating everlasting love with a single person is the best fetish and better than any drink or sex with groups of people could ever be.

>Btw, yes, go watch Simoun. While the "girls can choose to be male or female at certain age" may be a bit off-putting for a Yuri fan at the beginning, is actually not that troubling and even well done in the anime.

You should try some of the more explicit yuri shows cause a good portion of them actually have real plots, drama, and action and aren't just good cause of yuri. Symphogear and Madoka are both good examples of what I mean. You'd like Mai-HiME/Otome and maybe like KnM depending on like/dislike of mecha - rest of the show is great though. Utena is also great. If you can stomach the first quarter of Sailor Moon the rest of the show starts to get better and better and then the next 2 seasons are also great. Simoun is also good.

woodcuck makes all the modern threads and decides what gets popular now and that's partly why the community has become such dogshit.

Do you recommend a re-read of the manga too? I don't even remember if they share the same plot.

I have to disagree a bit here. Imo, some characters look like hungry skeletons with and without clothes (Nagisa and Shizuma with their usual uniforms for a example), but, since i'm not used with Shoujo art styles as I were before and prefer more realistic bodies, it may be just me.

Also, yeah, those Spica episodes weren't very good. I did like Yaya and her angst-drama for loving Hikari, but that's it. Amane and others can die in a fire.

Bruh, I've read that manga before, many years ago, and have some bad memories about it. The plot was terrible and more focused on fanservice than anything (to be fair, it was written by Seikon no Qwaser's author. Story isn't his main talent). Since I watched the anime first and expected something similar or better, I really hated it.

About Yukino, well, for me she is more or less a Ying for Haruka's Yang and voice of reason. Her interactions with other characters were poor, yes, but I like how she triggers most of Haruka's softer and funny moments. It's like they complete each other as a duo.

>Happy non cheating everlasting love with a single person is the best fetish and better than any drink or sex with groups of people could ever be.

Geez, you are so old-fashioned, anon. Well, more booze for me, anyways.

Never read the manga. Heard it was bad. But also heard from others it was decent but a lot of them seemed to hate on the anime so you're probably right. So that's why I mentioned it.

>Also, yeah, those Spica episodes weren't very good. I did like Yaya and her angst-drama for loving Hikari, but that's it. Amane and others can die in a fire.

I liked Kaname and Momomi - the evil global warming lesbians despite the rest of Spica being crap.

Oh they do. I just personally find Yukino boring for reasons stated. Haruka tends to interact with the rest of the cast more than Yukino does so you get to see more sides to her. They both have funny interactions but I think you could do some interesting shit with Haruka's character by pairing them up with other characters.

>I have to disagree a bit here. Imo, some characters look like hungry skeletons with and without clothes (Nagisa and Shizuma with their usual uniforms for a example), but, since i'm not used with Shoujo art styles as I were before and prefer more realistic bodies, it may be just me.

I tend to like my characters taller but that's my personal tastes showing through. The show could have used more budget but I felt that when it needed to look good for the Shizuma/Nagisa sections it managed to look pretty good.

>Geez, you are so old-fashioned, anon. Well, more booze for me, anyways.

You don't need booze when you have forbidden eternal love.

Surprised I haven't seen this.

1 - Don't remember/don't really want to bother checking - it's one of my dailies.

2 - I migrated to 8chan after all the mod crap on /v/, and thought, "Hey, let's see if there's a /u/ board," and I replaced v with u and it worked.

3 - Hell yes. I first started browsing 4chan's /u/ sometime after Lucky Star started airing, so that would've been maybe 2010?

4 - 42

5 - In order

(does Touhou count?)

Revolutionary Girl Utena

Lucky Star

Strawberry Panic!

Maria-sama ga Miteru

Shoujo Sect

6 - In order

Remilia x Patchouli

Konata x Kagami

Marisa x Alice

Nagisa x Tamao

Sei x Everyone

Yumi x Sachiko

Kohai should only be allowed to post in the presence of a strong dominant onee-san to protect and guide them in life.

They should only be as forceful as a proper onee-san allows them to be. When a kohai acts forcefully it is merely an attempt to get the onee-san to stop moping about and to notice them as seen here that way the onee-sans can do what they do best and begin to molest the needy kohai.

>1. How long have you been browsing 8/u/ - and how often do you check 8/u/?

Around the first exodus. I only check 2-3 times a week, more if I posted something.

>2. How'd you even hear about 8/u/?

Immediately look for /u/, but without any capacities to own a board so I waited for somebody to create it.

>3. Did you browse 4chan's /u/ and how long did you browse?

It began in 2009/2010 (honestly I don't really remember). It was an on-off thing. What I do remember is I began to regularly browse 4/u/ in late 2010 (or earlier in that year - my memories are foggy as hell about these years).

>4. How familiar are you with yuri?

Way more familiar than it needed to be. Though I have almost zero knowledge about all the western shits.

>5. What are you favorite yuri series (can list as many as you want)?

Lucky Star

Ebisu-san and Hotei-san

Shinozaki

Candy Boy

El Cazador de la Bruja

YRYR

Yuyushiki

ICE - アイス -

Aria <-does this even count as yuri?

>6. Favorite Yuri Pairings?

UmixKotori

Let me guess: your /u/ odyssey started when you misclicked /v/.

I accidentally did this on cuckchan at least 3 times.

>How I arrived on 4/u/.

Not the guy you were talking but my story is decent I think. First board I started posting on when I began to post on 4chan. I came from SA after getting sick of only being allowed to talk about mod sanctioned animu. Mostly I just wanted to discuss KnM, My-HiME, and Strawberry Panic and other old stuff and not just Utena/Madoka. Also /m/echa was another thing I came to 4chan for after leaving SA.

I do know a number of people have begun browsing /u/ though entirely cause of how close it was to /v/ on 4chan.

Sorry for being ignorant but with "SA" you mean "Shoujo-ai.com"?

>Also /m/echa was another thing I came to 4chan for after leaving SA.

I checked 4/m/ sometimes - before the tumblr invasion - but without posting anything. While I'm a big Mecha/Tokusatsu fan, my knowledge was and still is too pleb to that board.

>I do know a number of people have begun browsing /u/ though entirely cause of how close it was to /v/ on 4chan.

4/u/ received a lot of /v/ citizens thanks to this. Even some of their most annoying trip and avatarfags would stay there and contribute to threads after a misclick.

Something Awful. Although I did visit that other site back when I was a filthy newfag many many years ago.

>4/u/ received a lot of /v/ citizens thanks to this. Even some of their most annoying trip and avatarfags would stay there and contribute to threads after a misclick.

Yeah that's also a possible consequence for all of the shitty tumblr games that started popping up on /u/.
