The times it was used in-game were hit or miss (hurr, gondola ride of feelings), but this song has a bittersweet, almost nostalgic (even without personal nostalgia) sound to it.

There's not really any song I outright dislike from him, which is hard to find for most composers. The Prelude melody is also one of the most iconic video game pieces that can also be listened to on the regular (for example, you aren't going to bump the Super Mario Bros. theme day-to-day).

I love those heartfelt songs that Uematsu-san composed. Songs like Aeris's Theme, FF9's Melodies of Life, and that song I linked in the OP "The Forest of Thousand Years" pull my emotions.

It's also worth noting the "Meloncholy" songs are pretty much just MIDIs slowed down 10-20bpm and most notation consolidated to a piano and occasionally strings/horns.

Still nice to listen to.
