This will probably never be active enough to take off, but I went ahead and made #urbex on irc.rizon.net, if anyone wants to drop by! I'll try to lurk there as much as I can and see if we can get at least a tentative lurker base going.

I think we should leave our uTox here too.

Yet again, we find ourselves with a reminder that Urbex is a dangerous activity. At the same time, these guys did it right. They called for help when someone was injured, and they're complying with police. Hopefully the DA doesn't try to throw the book at them.

it's straight up a couple hundred feet, metal fused into slightly cracked or crumbling 1970's concrete. you could probably get away with climbing without gear and be fine, but just the idea of it all scares the crap out of me.

I think the age of the structure and lack of supervision and training alone makes it dangerous.

 No.777

While entering an abandoned factory, I stepped on a nail and it went a goodway into my foot.

We stopped (2 chick friends and I) and looked at it. I wasn't about to let them down, and just as well I was excited myself, so I wrapped my foot up in a makeshift sock bandage and limped my way into the factory.

I had a lot of fun, but that sock got pretty bloody. I figured I'm a big guy, and can take some bloodloss from time to time.

I was there a week after the guy fell. It's still a great place, despite the heavy traffic it gets. These are dark times for MSP urbexers though. Pigsnut and the elevator near it are sealed shut. A lot of the tunnels are getting closed up. There's more patrols around well known sites. It fucking sucks man.

>>730

Bring someone with you. If something goes wrong you want someone there to call for help. Ladder climbs are rarely dangerous and your equipment is overkill.

Hey /urbex/, I live in South Eugene in Oregon and I was wondering if anyone knew of any shit around the area? I'm within walking distance of the University and I dont much mind trekking long distances if it means getting something good, I could get a bike but I'm not licensed to drive at the moment, so if anyone knows of anything within long walking/biking distance of the university, that'd be appreciated

Ever been in a dangerous situation?

One time a friend and I went on the roof of a 5 story building. We were walking around when we saw some writing on the roofing liner, big circles with "DO NOT STEP" in them. Figured it was either a building engineer or a kind urbexer pointing out roof sag.

It was only until we explored the inside of the building a bit more that we noticed a huge collapse in the corner of the building. Every floor from the first to the roof was sitting in a big pile of debris, about 50ft x 50 ft. We very easily could've fallen through the roof because there was nothing supporting it below in that corner of the building.

I was exploring a railroad bridge over this valley when my buddy looks over at a set of signal lights, asks "were those always on?" We agreed to get off and as soon as we step off onto solid ground at one end, we see a train coming.

A fellow I used to be friends with and I explored this building about a year ago. We gained access from an open metal gate that was at the extreme end of the property. There was a small building to the left of it and a hole in the fence to the right of it. Going through the hole, we were led into the open part seen in the picture, so we ran past the white rig and into the building. Within was a large room with underground areas (Too dark to see without aid of some kind, which we did not have as this was a spontaneous exploration), huge heaps of broken glass, a lone chair, and a ramp which led into a great room filled with boxes of unused jarred candles. As we moved into the room we found a large pit that looked like a damn car had been dropped through it! The general, and correct, assumption following this discovery was that the whole floor was of the same constitution as a wet paper towel. To the left of the large pit were stairs that led up to an office, a few workman's uniforms, and some other things I do not quite recollect. Back downstairs, we inched our way through the vault and found a large workshop, and an inclined conveyor belt. With the hour in our minds, we exited through a sort of fenced in alleyway and back onto the street.

at first i noticed that it was 45 minutes long and i thought to myself "i don't want to watch some faggot walk around an abandoned house for an hour, i'll just skip around.

i watched the beginning to see what exactly it was he was going to explore

he walks up to some shabby ass ladder and i thought to myself as he was talking "okay we get it - it isn't safe, don't make your video about safety precautions and just get to the damn house and find something cool

then i see that little rope he throws up there and realize what he is about to do. i watch the entire thing without fast forwarding, and i am going crazy and have the feeling that I'M the one about to be falling off to my death

someone needs to make this video virtual reality compatible

>leave work one night, after having more than a few drinks (free pints on the job)
>walk past post office
>rear gate is open
>decide to go in and take pictures
>go round a corner, next to the employee bathrooms there's this big telecoms tower
>hear someone go into the bathroom
>hide behind a corner
>after I'm sure he's gone I decide it's time to leave
>walk out towards gate
>it's locked
>fuck
>attempt to shimmy up a telephone poll next to a wall and hop in to an alley behing the building

One learns to appreciate the vast mixture of eye candy all mushed together when exploring.

To me, a mixture of nature, abandoned/aged structures, destruction and graffiti all blended in one location is the sort of brilliance I want to explore.

Graffiti is purely subjective when it comes to these treasures. I think it adds more than subtracts, from the experience.

Like a last-minute attempt at human culture trying to take something back before it's truly handed back to nature and doom.

Heard this place needs more content. This was the spoopy school I explored. Not sure if it was worth it since the neighbor called the cops and I was in handcuffs for an hour trying to convince them that I wasn't a burglar trying to steal copper.

Fucking pigs man. But the case got dropped because I was from out of town, the public trespassing notice had expired, the keyholder to the place couldn't be reached, and the detective didn't want to bother.

A tip...

I 'operate a location scouting company for the movie and film industry'. I have business cards, etc. I have never had any 'movie industry' clients express any interest in my work as of yet as I am still accumulating a portfolio of locations.

OK.. so read between the lines there, as long as your just taking pictures, don't actually forcibly break in somewhere, pay attention to legally posted areas. When/if you have police contact just explain what you were doing and that you are looking for anyone who acts as 'agent of the property' so you can get their information for future contact if they decide to rent as a filming location. (which can be security guards, owner, whatever.. usually the bank.)

No one has ever pressed any kind of charges.. and who knows, maybe I will actually submit something as a location scout someday. (don't hold your breath.)

 No.712

>arrested

is copper really that valuable? there is also another thread dedicated just to that

if they care about their copper so much, they should have salvaged it themselves before leaving the building

 No.717

>>275

I think what you're missing here is that there's a clear difference between getting caught inside a location on a property you don't have right of entry to, and scouting for filming locations.

Most professionals that scout for film locations usually have permission to actually be on that property.

Additionally, anyone can print business cards these days. There's 0% credibility in stating you have a business card.

It's better to simply not lie in such situations, and not put on a fake character just to seem more credible.

Just state you were taking photos for fun. A bit of patience and honesty can go a long way.

>>712

I think it's mostly just that places stay abandoned for ages, but someone still technically has at least some right of ownership to that property.

It's as simple as wanting to sting someone for theft really, just because they can.

 No.736

>>717

Do whatever works for you I guess. I have been doing the location scout thing for literally decades now.. (yeah, I'm old) and it has worked wonderfully. Not exactly a 'lie' I just don't shop my locations around. If I get questioned or 'caught' (as you put it) I pull my reasons out and usually manage to secure permission to continue photographing... although I admit I focus on different details that I would if I am under observation from an agent of the property than I would if I am alone.

Been followed by security guards but never really interacted with one. I like to play games with them if I realize I can't get into a place for sure. Walk around with my camera taking photos from the outside until they start to follow me, then I'll stop and stare at them and maybe take some photos of them. Basically play chicken to see if they'll overcome their laziness with a sense of mall cop duty by approaching me.

 No.506

That drastically cuts down on good locations, and most of the time you can talk your way out of trespassing charges if you look like you're just taking photos and happen to be stupid and careless

 No.507

>>506
Exactly. When I was a kid me and some friends climbed on top of our school one weekend and when the cops showed up we ran, got caught, and charged with criminal trespass. My intake officer said she thinks we should have only got a warning and probably the only reason that we got charged was for running, and since it was easter they were probably mad that they had to work that day.
