Bay Area Califaggots:
For fuck's sake say it isn't so ;_;
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Neighbors-get-look-at-Hunters-Point-shipyard-5586983.phpDoes anyone who lives in SF know whether there's anything left of the Hunter's Point shipyard to explore?
No.459
>>458Oh and on this note: What are some good abandoned places in the Bay Area to explore? It seems like there are pretty slim pickings around here with all the constant development and overpriced land, but then again I have very little urbex experience.
Anyone in San Jose/Monterey Bay area?

>>490>>491Cool man. So where the fuck are all the cool places to explore around here? It seems like the minute a building becomes abandoned, there are dozens of rabid developers trying to tear shit down to build shitty condos or apartment buildings.
No.500
>>499Yeah, that's a bit of an issue, there's a lot of abandoned farms around, as of this moment though, you know the old porno theater on Bascom? That got shut down and no one's claimed it yet, so it's a potential exploran spot, only issue is that it's RIGHT on a major roadway
No.501
>>499Anything big and
fun to explore, you'll probably have to leave the city proper, i'm planning soon to head over to the abandoned hospital in newman
No.503
>>500You're not talking about the Burbank Theater, right? I just checked that and apparently it's been claimed:
http://www.mercurynews.com/rose-garden/ci_24325989/san-joses-burbank-theater-is-now-home-studio>>501Aw shit, I'm there for an abandoned hospital. That's the problem with California in general, though; you need to drive far for a lot of shit, and especially in the Bay Area with how developed everything is, you need to go to the Central Valley, down south, or in the mountains to find any abandoned buildings. What's the name of this hospital?
No.504
>>433Anything interesting in the Tampa Bay Area I could go around?
Florida is kinda shitty from surface level but maybe there's something cool out there.
No.505
>>503shiiiiiiiiiit, i shoulda gotten there sooner, as for the hospital, i'm not actually sure of the name, heard about it from my sister, once i've got it nailed down just exactly where it is, i'll let you know.
Who knows, we might run in to each other, haha
No.511
>>505Definitely post about it here if/when you go.
No.514
>>511Damn, the one I was thinking of is owned by an ambulance company now. As for places I'm not sure even exist, according to local legend, there's an albino colony up in the hills somewhere on hicks road. How long have you lived here, out of curiosity?
No.519
>>514That's disappointing. I've looked into some places in California like that, but aside from the obvious Linda Vista Community Hospital in LA, the only other abandoned hospitals I know of are San Luis Obisbo's mental hospital on Johnson and Bishop, and Nevada County Hospital near Sacramento on Willow Valley Road. I've never been to either of those places because they're kind of far, but it's on my list.
Also, Castle Air Force Base and George Air Force Base. I don't know what level of security or activity they have there, but shit would be legit.
Holy shit really? That sounds pretty fucking cool. I had no idea, but there apparently are a lot of urban legends surrounding Hicks Road. There's apparently an abandoned psych ward on top of the hill? Have you heard anything about that? I need to check out this place.
Pretty much born and raised in San Jose. Of course I actually have lived in Morgan Hill for the better portion of my life and also spent a few years in the Central Valley (although that area definitely has a lot of places to explore) and now I'm living in Santa Cruz, but my family is all in San Jose so it's always remained a constant for me.
No.520
>>519Oh, and Hicks Road is right near this place:
>>460 >>465
No.522
>>519Same, i've lived here forever, but now that I think about it, I actually lived up in the santa cruz mountains as a kid, and I imagine there's probably shitloads of abandoned houses up there innawoods.
I've heard about the psych ward, I think it's the Cinnabar Hills Asylum, finding any info about it online though is a bitch, actually planning to head out there and try to find it some time soon
No.525
>>504when I visited there for vacation I tried my best to find something to explore. best I came up with was the old ringling bros headquarters in Sarasota which, unfortunately, I couldn't make it down to check out. there were a couple businesses and houses I spotted that were abandoned near Tampa but I couldn't find an entrance. I did end up going to Egmont Key via a ferry and going around the abandoned fort. there were some ruins
that the ranger told us not to explore but I did anyways which were cool.
Tampa kinda sucks overall. maybe out in the sticks you'd find some neat rotting buildings but otherwise...
No.526
>>522There must be a lot of abandoned buildings in these hills, but I scarcely even know where to begin in trying to find them. I know that there are train tunnels and at least one abandoned cabin some other urbexers found here
http://www.uer.ca/locations/show.asp?locid=27504 , and there's also Holy City on the Old Santa Cruz Highway that I've been wanting to go check out. I also have read before that Old Santa Cruz Highway could be a good area to look along for abandoned buildings, but I need to go up there and look around.
Dude, fucking post here when you have an idea of when you might be going. Maybe I can join you.
No.527
>>526>>522Here, I just found this. Someone else interested in finding this place - which apparently was never officially registered with the state as a mental health facility and could have been an unofficial loony bin - posted this map they made on tumblr of what they believe to be the general area where the asylum could be.
Here's another bit of information I found that could point in the right direction - from a 2007 forum post: "Its off of Almaden Expressway, take it until it forks in Almaden Valley and go right (there is a bar on the left corner of the street when you go right). Its by the Ol' Opry house"
So what do you say anon?
No.528
>>527Oh and regarding the "albino colony":
There's a "private Swedish-American community" in the hills, near Morgan Hill, called Sveadal. It could be the so-called "albino colony" and would be the place to start if one was interested in finding it. Not sure how interesting it'd be considering it's populated, but I have read about it being a creepy hick town in the hills so maybe it could be cool.

>>527>>528Also, while I'm posting about cool places in the Bay Area to check out:
Ano Nuevo Island:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A%C3%B1o_Nuevo_IslandIt's a small island off the coast, a little ways up from Santa Cruz. The island is known for the sea lions that come to mate there and the great white sharks that hunt in the waters around it, but of interest to urbexers would be the abandoned buildings on the island. The lighthouse, unfortunately, has been long torn down, but there are still a few buildings there.
People aren't allowed on the island, but if one were to take a small boat out there late at night, they'd probably be fine. I just need to get access to a small fishing boat.

Germany, Andernach
My first trip scouting some potential locations.
I walked around the compound of a mental institution that is like right outside my doorstep.
Anyway, nothing especially interesting, i came across some vent which leads to an old boiler room or something.
Pretty lame excuse, but i didn't go in yet since i forgot to take a flashlight.

Small update, i went inside with a flashlight and looked around a bit.
It's actually some sort of tunnel which seems to be big and could be a pretty decent location. Didn't expect this in my shitty town

does this klapsmühle consist of multiple buildings? My university has a fair-sized network of underground tunnels for carrying steam mains and fiber from building to building.
