Late reply, sorry. I didn't use the best words there, what i mean is that i usually bring 3 flashlights, one that works well for pointing and off into the distance, one that lights up a small area in every direction, and one that does almost nothing for backup, or if i need to sacrifice one.

I don't usually bring a bag, so i don't think i could carry a weapon sized one and not look 'off'. If i ever ran into people i don't think I'd fight, I'd probably try to hide, and if not, stay far up drain and make a ton of noise.
If i came face to face with someone unagreeable I'd probably just give them whatever they wanted, i don't think I'd do well in a drain scuffle, i may try the knife, but its more for cutting snagged clothing or clearing rungs than anything.
