Just found my old Panasonic television a Panasonic TC-14S4RC
Since I'ma filthy yuropoor its a 50hz one.
How fucked am I?
>How fucked am I?
For finding an old telly? You're probably alright.
That's a strong pose you're striking in your image. I think you'll do just fine. How's it look when it's on? Tried any games out?
>That's a strong pose you're striking in your image
That's not my image
>How's it look when it's on? Tried any games out?
Still need an HDMI to RCA adaptor, my PS1 and PS2 are still at my old place which I can only reach by plane.
>I think you'll do just fine.
Shame my old plasma TV went to shit
Test something to see if it supports 60hz.
>RCA to HDMI
What the fuck is wrong with you
where can a canacuck track down one of those solid state sony monitors for under 200 dollarydoos? i'm dying to get one
YOU CAN GET PICKUP A CRT FOR FREE AT YOUR LOCAL ELECTRONICS RECYCLING PLACE
like those really old ones? They're like collectors items. Just hit yard sales of older folks, ask them if they have any old sony tvs. I'm not sure exactly what you mean.
try to get a mid 90s to mid 2000's sony, panasonic, mitsubishi, toshiba, JVC, loewe, or Beovision or something, shouldn't be too hard.
i can get one of this for free, how are they?
looks like it's in good shape, no serious geometry or purity issues. Go for it. Likely has component too.
Cool dude, if you get a Mega Drive or Saturn hooked up to that (They both support that format out of the box and you can find scart cables for them easily) you can experience some of the most crisp and beautiful pixel sprites ever made.
Fuck, I love 16-bit Sonic backgrounds. They're all so fantastically made.
What is with the insane price gap between CRTs? I've seen the same one go for $500 and $2000. Both work, same condition. Although one is missing the $90 control module.
Picked up a 5 inch Black & White CRT today & thought you guys might get a kick out of this.
I don't even know any more. I'm just buying local unused b-stock sets.
OP from May thread. I FINALLY got the Pvm local tv station promised me back in spring.
Looks pretty basic, but it's still a beaut.
I'm more of a computer guy so I have a pretty much untouched Apple CRT that's pretty fucking nice.
Is there any way to turn Componen/Composite inputs into VGA without horrible compromises in lag/quality/etc.
Willing to drop a load if the adapter's good.
Specially relevant since many video cards are also dropping the DVI analog outputs too….
You're gonna get murdered by a spooky tech-ghost anon.
Forgot my picture.
I have this but 21in. and smoky gray.
Recently convinced my grandma not to throw her Sony Trinitron into the trash, if she happens to buy a new one I'll scwhoomp that shit right up.
You're gonna fuck your grandma?
Is it a security monitor? Can you hook up a Gameboy game to it? How do monochrome games look on it?
It's a Chinese CRT called a Curtis. Absolutely garbage, but it doubles as radio. Has a single jack in the back for mono & composite video. Surprisingly enough I picked up a single analogue tv station on it, which I can only assume exists just for emergency reasons.
I figured it out. It's scammers. The extraordinarily low ones want you to contact them, so they can say something like: "Oh we need an additional fee that has to be paid outside of the platform". It's obvious to see where this goes. You end up paying an extra $100 or so, then the dude runs with the money.
Would plugging in a Wii running an NES emulator defeat the purpose of having a PVM?
The Wii doesn't do RGB, but it's better than nothing. Its a cheap option if you don't want to go full scart.
wouldn't be too bad. Just set it to output 480i in the wii menu and set the emulator to output "default" and it'll be proper 240p. NES is a hard system to get right as there's not really an RGB color palette for it. Component from a Wii would be very clean looking too.
Just get one of these and that problems fixed
Nice, I've been thinking about trying to score one of these. There's larger sizes I might try to find with just a single screen
The ones in your picture are black and white and composite only
Yes for games I'd only play Gameboy and pre 1983 systems on it, whatever I could hook up that is also monochrome.
But if I'm going to get a 4"-5" b/w tv I'm going to get the best damn 4"-5" b/w tv I can find.
>Just found my old Panasonic television a Panasonic TC-14S4RC
I hate it when I lose a whole TV that measures 50x32 and weighs 70 lbs. I mean, sometimes I forget where I put the thing. I end up just buying a new one. One day, I went into a room in my house that I haven't entered in over 20 years and I found like 17 televisions that I thought were lost forever. Now I have all the TVs. What games should I play?
please stop bragging about finding old junk
the fact that you couldn't be bothered to do 5 minutes of research on PAL60 before making this thread suggests you're better suited to reddit.
CRT scalpers are the worst. I'm not paying anymore than $10 for junk. This thread won't increase my interest enough to break that principle. Stop trying.
>Trips go to a random 4cuck who thinks this thread was specifically meant for him
There truly is no hope left for this board.
OY, YOU BETTER HAVE A LOICENCE FIR THAT TELLY M8
the op image is a piece of junk and there's absolutely no reason to post it besides bragging rights, which is a very reddit thing to do.
>Look at me I'm so cool for using a cheap low grade 14 inch crt!
Someone's projecting their insecurity. No where in the OP is there bragging.
I have 2 of these, they’re aight
My bad, on mobile and picked the wrong thumbnail
I bought one of those for $20, breddy comfy
How well do they function? Have you played any games on it? What do you typically use it for?
Cuckchan went down, so it's natural insecure faggots come here to shit up threads about things they can't afford and where born too late to enjoy.
whom said I can't afford junk? Nobody. I just don't want 20 bulky crts in my house wasting space.
Otherwise you're just projecting
>nuhaha he can't afford my $200 pvm that i'm scalping, GOT EM
which just proves my point, you're a scalper shilling your junk to increase the pricing on your ebay listing. It's junk nobody wants it.
I hope for your own sake you're baiting.
Notice he doesn't deny being a cuckchanner.
A PS1 costs like 20 burgerbux…
Ergh, a digital CRT. I mean, they're not completely horrid…
holy shit dude, I think I had the very same tv in my room when I was little
A Digital CRT? I mean, its nice that it has HDMI, but the lag just kills it for fighting games. What's with the underscan too?
I just got this shit, but may go look around some Goodwills later today.
tfw your roommates can still hear 15khz, and you can't
How old are you?
That an ikegami on the left? What are those things on the upper left?
Yes, and a stereo amplifier/distribution amp, and a CD player?
How many of those systems play CDs and why do you have a multi disk CD player
>How many of those systems play CDs
>why do you have a multidisc CD player?
Less electricity, don't need to run a monitor, less energy consumed, no video noise on the audio, and it was like $5 at the Goodwill.
Legendary Ikegami there, It think I recognize that exact unit as one that was at some point in my own home. Good to see its unwieldy footprint is otherwise being made of good use in that setup, most complaints I see on broadcast equipment is how their size doesn't really fit well in consumer environments.
That and why waste your console laser to play a normal cd. or in the case of a ps2 why align your laser to play cds and not purple discs
YOU TRY TOO HARD!!!!! STEP IT UP
wouldnt that be step it down?
YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play.
Someone PLEASE use this mod on a crt. It looks absolutely beautiful on an LCD, my god it would look amazing on a CRT.
Been wanting to get one of those. How good are they? Are they good enough to stop using regular n64 controllers?
Pretty nice anon. Model?
Fucking LOL pretty cool.
Some guy brought his PVM1954Q into my shop because he heard I can work on them or at least identify issues.
It's technically fixable but that's a pretty sad sight.
>LCDfags fly into a foaming rage at the mere sight of a CRT
>But CRTfags are the autistic ones
4cucks was down so we got a ton of retards shitting in public. The sad part is they refuse to go back
Temperature changes or something? That doesn't look like drop damage.
The spacing of a reddit. Typos fuck.
if I had to guess, impact so possibly a drop during handling at some point. The back panel of the chassis is cracked and partially caved in.
Anyone know what's wrong with my pvm?
try adjusting the contrast?
dude just like put an industrial magnet on the right side itll totally pull your picture back to normal trust me my dad works at
See if there's a degaussing option.
Every time someone on /v/ tries to convince you this place isn't full of hipsters, point them to this thread.
Is there anything to the left of the CRT that's magnetic that could be distorting the image? Anything at all?
>Playing games on original hardware with the highest possible video quality is hipster
When did enthusiast abd hipster become the same word?
Reminder that people too young to recall 9/11 are old enough to post here.
Hipster is buying a SNES Mini or a Retropie, having zero dedication to the experience.
Enthusiast is using original hardware without cucking out and buying from resellers.
either the aperture grille got warped which isn't a super easily fixable thing, or the purity is done or the degauss coil isn't doing what it's supposed to.
Get a nice meaty degaussing coil like one of these and give it a whirl. It may do the trick. If it's purity then you'll have to adjust the purity rings which is a bit beyond my skill set right now. I do know magnetic strips also can help with this.
From what I can tell it looks like it was cuddled up between some fairly nasty magnets for a long period.
Some REALLY nasty ones, too. In-home speakers rarely cause that level of gaussing.
And a warped grille is pretty much irreparable, especially in a Trinitron.
A good CRT is a necessity if you want to play 6th gen and older vidya without it looking like dogshit, you'd be surprised at how beatiful PS2 games look with the ps3 sony component cables and progressive scan enabled on a trinitron, sure you could just emulate either on PC or other consoles but there's bound to be some graphical glitches or other fuckery you just don't get on the original hardware.
I know that feel. I got at least three 60" projection CRTs, three 40" CRTs, and another seven medium sized TVs all stuck in a spare bedroom of my mother's house. She also has a TV in almost every room, most of them also CRTs that my dad installed on mounts 40 years ago before I was born.
It's crazy shit, like walking through a museum.
>Reminder that people too young to recall 9/11 are old enough to post here.
And just like that I feel like an old fogey.
In 402 days, people born after 9/11 will be able to post here.
>That reflection in the screen.
>tfw when we recently moved into an old farmhouse and my mom dumped about four good CRT TVs in the woods.
You should swap positions of the Super Nintendo and the n64 so that they are in chronological order from left to right.
>Trying get /v/ to trouble shoot an eBay listing so you can get a deal on a tube tv by fixing it yourslelf with /v/'s advice
DAMN Nigger, you only got 2 int.
СЪЕБИ ОТСЮДА БЛЯДЬ БЫСТРО
PS2 on a CRT is just gorgeous, 480i is palatable and for many games looks fantastic, benefiting the style like Okami. The big draw is 240p, and CRT being a better technology for 480p systems makes it really ideal for the Wii and original Xbox, which if you haven't gotten a chance to seen on a real 480p CRT you're missing out some downright impressive stuff.
yeah it's probably fucked, best bet is a monster degauss which is obviously not permanent and as far as fixable goes hope it's purity at the worst.
that's dirty. fortunately most ebay sellers are too incompetent to do anything right let alone fix something that could kill them.
Would be a shame if I bought it first.
dont unless you like phone screen sizes (you won't)
>dumped CRT TVs in the woods
I mean, CRT TVs are free. Just go find one.
They're alright, they're a bit more sensitive than a standard one, but they're leagues better than any of the chinese clone models, or buying a second hand one. People complained about the left shoulder button, but it's a total non-issue. No games actually used that button anyway.
PAL Wii units do.
Yeah I heard about that. The joystick would hit it right? Even so, I've heard thats been fixed in the next batch of production. How sensitive are we talking here? Big difference to get used to? For the price it doesn't look that bad, I have 4 controllers (first party none of that chink shit) in really good condition, yet I know the joystick will die eventually.
It's not too sensitive, just a little more sensitive than a standard one.
I don't get this parable why the hell would a fox want grapes? Foxes are carnivores what kind of moron was this aesop guy? what a retard
>Y-yeah, why would I- I mean a fox want any grapes anyways? We- I mean, they're carnivores!
Whatever, you salty fox, if a human gave you some grapes you'd gobble them up without a second thought.
that was an oddly satisfying watch.
I recently jailbroke a PS3 I got for dirt cheap to play PS1 and PS2 games not already on my PS2. I am thinking of hooking it up to my CRT with composite cables since my PS2 is taking up the HD component slots. Will this give a decent picture for PS1 games or does the PS3 add effects when playing old games?
The PS3 plays Ps1 games in 480i. PS1 games look like shit on it. You want a PS2, or ideally a PS1 for original ps1 games.
I'm assuming there is no way to disable this? If it matters I am not using PSN acquired PS1 games but rather and external filled with "backups"
>I'm assuming there is no way to disable this?
Unless there's some way to hack the PS3 to run a custom emulator that displays in 240p, not that I'm aware of.
PS3: Emulates PS1 games at 480i (infinite memory cards) - Lowest comparability
PS2: Hardware emulated PS1 games at 240p with option to double disc speed. 98% actuate
PS1: 100% compatability (lasers die easy)
*There's a PS1 lash card coming out soon so you might want to just get a PS1.
PS3 doesn't go lower than 480i.
Playstation 1 is best played on a PS2, or failing that a PSP Go. A PS1 isn't bad, but unless you have an RGBs monitor you're going to be a bit restricted.
You mean the PSIO?
Does composite go all the way up to 480?
Right. There's also a way to turn a game shark for the PS1 into a removable mod chip if you wanted to play burned PS1 discs. also slim PS2s up to the 7000 model can be easily modded to play burned PS1 discs (that's what I'm doing until the PSIO)
