Made me quit because it was too stressful and I couldn't save people from the plague, it's amazing in a weird way, you should play it. Writing, setting and atmosphere are really, really fucking good, the only thing I didn't really like was the combat but you can avoid it most of the time I think.

If you’ve ever read any of the bleak Russian existential novels from the 19th century, this game is somewhat akin to being an interactive equivalent. It’s a game that’s not conventionally enjoyable, but is overwhelming in its atmosphere and content. The characters all bend the truth, unconsciously or not, to fit the narrative that they want to share with you. The atmosphere of the game is also like a culture shock. It was purposefully written to feel like you were trying to communicate with a second language. It doesn’t help that it’s also a difficult survival game, and you’re constantly confronted by having to make morally horrible decisions (the situations happen organically) while trying to get to the bottom of the game’s mystery.

It’s really unlike anything else I’ve experienced. The first time I played it, I had to stop after 30 minutes just because the atmosphere was too bleak and powerful for me. Even then, I felt like I was “in the game” for the rest of the day — the air suddenly became cold, and I couldn’t stop hearing the atmospheric trip hop soundtrack.

The depth of artistic and philosophical knowledge that went into the game is just incredible, I doubt that there are any games on a similar level as Pathologic but I would really love to be proven wrong.

Is Pathologic really a horror game? While it’s undeniably disturbing, the purpose of the game is more intellectual. There aren’t many exciting/thrilling aspects of the game.

The horror comes from tackling a massive epidemic out on your own, mind you, you're but one man trying to save an entire town that may or may not even wanna work with you, it's more panic inducing than spooky if anything, just the idea that you're constantly on a rush before the disease devours everyone.

d55417  No.15433742

>>15432933

To clarify, I don’t think horror is even an accurate categorization for Silent Hill 2. It refers to anything that evokes a feeling of fear, and neither Pathologic nor SH2 evoked these feelings from me. It was something almost unplaceable, similar to a feeling of existential dread. It’s like depression with meaning/purpose attached to it.

>>15432962

That makes complete sense. To be honest, I’m just afraid of the game being seen in the same light as the jumpscare camp we have today

It's nearly finished, although a release date hasn't been announced yet. A demo was released at the start of this month and it's really good.

What I'm scared of, though, is… the game's being published by a publisher who a couple years back had completely sabotaged the release of what was supposed to be one of their flagship games, Punch Club, with an ingenious marketing strategy that involved delaying the game on what was supposed to be its release date and then having the head of the publisher have a meltdown on Twitter over how half the people who'd pre-ordered the game up to that point had then at that point just cancelled their pre-orders for the game and never looked back. So I'm really scared that the publisher is going to completely fuck this up for Ice-Pick Lodge by pulling a similarly ingenious marketing stunt for the Pathologic remake that'll similarly kill its sales, especially since I think the Pathologic remake is shaping up to actually be Ice-Pick Lodge's first big commercial hit if the publisher doesn't step in at the last second to just do the one thing the publisher's famous for doing - pulling an ingenious marketing stunt for their most high-profile game release that instantly turns that game release from a success into a flop.

By the way,

>an ingenious marketing strategy that involved delaying the game on what was supposed to be its release date and then having the head of the publisher have a meltdown on Twitter over how half the people who'd pre-ordered the game up to that point had then at that point just cancelled their pre-orders for the game and never looked back

With this sentence I think I've made it sound like delaying Punch Club's release date was just an unfortunate thing that had to be done on account of the game not being ready for release that just angered fans because of how it broke the promise they'd made about the game's release date.

Because that's not what it was at all. The ingenious marketing stunt the publisher had pulled was specifically that at the very last moment before the game would be released to the people who'd paid for it they announced that they were taking the game that they had indeed actually finished and deliberately withholding it from those people who'd paid for it.

And so that's the publisher in charge of the release of what I really think will be Ice-Pick Lodge's big break as long as nobody comes in to fuck it up at the last second.

This is all a giant tangent to the actual subject of the thread, but, still. TinyBuild had better not fuck this up for Ice-Pick Lodge.

>I almost felt sorry for the publisher because he sounded more like a retard that fell for the Twitch plays Pokemon meme than an actual jew. Don't think he'll try pulling any such stunts again

Remember the (((media))) storm that appeared in the wake of the Punch Club incident praising TinyBuild for how they'd come up with such an ingenious marketing strategy?

… I was about to continue on from that point by talking about how nearly all of the original information on the actual abject failure of the game's ingenious marketing strategy has just gone into the memory hole at this point and pointing to how the Wikipedia articles on the game and its publisher actually claim that the game's ingenious marketing strategy was a massive success, but, actually, those pages have been completely scrubbed clean at this point of any mention at all of how Punch Club's sales were impacted one way or another by the incident TinyBuild had created for the game's release - so that's just more information on the incident that's gone into the memory hole now then.

In any case, what I think shows from all of this is that they're a bunch who are (((very good at social engineering on a short time-scale))) (with the exception that if anything goes wrong with their social engineering, (((the only way they can ever respond is to double down)))) while at the same time (((very bad at any kind of planning in the long-term))) - and so I really don't trust them not to sabotage Pathologic's release now the way they did Punch Club's release back in 2016.

Finally finished the Changeling/Clara's perspective and I must ask: is there even a game that breaks the 4th wall as hard and elegantly as Pathologic does?

That moment in which the developers mock you with 'Still that immersed in Clara's character?' is amazing, and when you realize that you were the Player yourself even in-character and your twin sister was [REDACTED] all along just adds on top of it.

It's nothing like say Conker's Bad Fur Day or the Deadpool movies where the characters sometimes directly turn towards the player for some tongue-in-cheek joke, the Out-of-Character and the In-Character end up so seamlessly blended together it's like there never was a 4th wall in the first place.

I'd go into more detail but the spoilers are so gigantic even occulting the text is not worth it.

What a great finale.
