Now it looks like an even faster Bloodborne with more verticality to the combat, almost looking something like Ninja Gaiden or DMC. There’s a lot more colors and atmosphere than there initially looked to be, and the boss battles seem to have some flare to them without sacrificing the gameplay or taking control away from you. I’m pretty excited.

I'm not going crazy with the hype, honestly. I'm sure it will be good but after playing a bunch of action games I realize that Miyazaki's games don't come close to the likes of DMC, MGR, Bayo and even Nioh which took what they did with the Souls games and improved the gameplay. Also because DMC5 is coming out right around the same time as Sekiro I can't help but be more excited for DMC5, despite its art direction.

We'll see I suppose but I'm keeping my expectations low.

I really hope so too. When I first saw it I was really hoping for Tenchu, got pissed when I saw the first trailer and it looked really similar combat wise to Souls/Bloodborne BUT WITH STEALTH KILLS, FILTHY GAIJIN.

Seeing this new one, the combat looks a lot more flashy, with hopefully a good amount of stealth too. to be fair, all the neat tricks they gave you in Tenchu was pretty flashy as well if you used them. If it plays well like a DMC or Platinum game and there's plenty of moves or at least some opportunities to sneak past or stealth kill enemies, I'd be alright with it.

That being said, I hope From actually does a new Tenchu game. I'd kill for another like Wrath of Heaven, especially if it let's you fight friends with all the characters found over the course of the game.

it's not really difficult, same with tenchu; have hostage type situations that make attacking to target difficult. make combat good and viable, but make the enemies powerful enough so you can't easily get away, and actually fear the enemies.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Still, I feel the need to clarify some things for the sake of everyone who read your retarded post. I played the gamescom demo 4 times so I certainly have a better understanding of the game than you.

In its current state you only get a second revive after defeating a number of enemies and they specifically emphasized that the system is still being worked on.

They only work on certain enemy types though. Stronger enemies have multiple health bars and an execution move will always just deplete one of them.

The hookshot has a fairly lengthy startup animation so if you're not careful you can get hit while using it. Some enemies can also climb up walls and others have projectiles they will fire at you. Boss fights are obviously mandatory and judging by the first boss they're going to be quite a step up in difficulty compared to the Souls games. I can tell you how:

The boss in the demo had 3 health bars and to deplete one of them you have to do an execution move, you can't kill him just by emptying the health bar but you also have to break his posture which regenerates over time. That means you're forced to either stay on the offensive and keep attacking at every possible opening and/or do perfectly timed blocks or counters.

The counters are called Mikiri by the way and you can only do them against thrust attacks signalled by the red "danger" symbol. The "danger" attacks aren't always thrusts though, it could also be a sweep that you can jump over so there's a good incentive to learn enemies' attack animations to defeat them quicker and look more stylish.

What the boss' health actually does is determine how fast his posture regenerates which means is a reason to actually attack the boss and not simply wait for parry opportunities.

I could go on for a while but you get the idea, there is a lot more depth to this game's mechanics than any of the Souls(-like) games had. It's certainly closer to pure action games from my experience, if I had to be specific I'd compare it to Ninja Gaiden 2 because of the combat pace, where a few well-placed hits or parries will quickly lead into an execution move in the same way NG2's OTs worked. Judging by the trailer there's also going to be wall jumps so the movement is going to be interesting. And it has enemy step from DMC.

I'm honestly getting really excited for this game, the demo just felt so fun to play.

It really did hurt to watch man, I figured the game would keep getting better but I guess all stealth games started dying out at that point

Hopefully they do actually put forth the effort to make the game good. It will definitely come down to how they handle common enemies, in my opinion. Bosses from what an anon said earlier seems to be their own brand of hard, but making the common enemies challenging or at least intelligent would go a long way to improving the world of the game itself. With any bit of luck, the boost of interest in the setting and possible success financially might mean they'll make one last attempt at a new Tenchu game.and maybe, just maybe, it'll be fun

I don't mind when a boss has a unique execution animation. I kind of appreciate that after a grueling fight. What I hate is games that incentivize slowing down the game in the middle of combat to do one of three or so canned executions. If Sekiro has unique execution animations to separate boss "phases" I'm totally cool with that.

i agree with you about your 2nd point, but i play fighting games, and the last thing i want is to finish the fight with a mandatory automatic fatality i have no say in. i earned that final hit, and if i cant decide how that final hit plays out, it takes out some of the satisfaction of a fight.

what i do like, is when the guy has 1 pixel of health, and i hit him with something that sends him flying off screen.

they could easily remedy this by making it an option. the guy may be flashing red or whatever, but i can choose to finish him with a smack to the head, or a QTE. but atleast make it my decision. from the guy's description, it sounds like you dont have a choice.

The Surge was heaps better than LOTF, LOTF was also made by a different studio in conjunction with Deck13. Some animations were recycled but no assets. And it would be more accurate to call it a Bloodborne clone.

The Surge was superior to Dark Souls 3 in my opinion, offering a fresh take on the sub-genre. The industrial theme, the free form upgrade system, limb cutting and more were welcome changes while Dark Souls just stagnated. The Surge 2 is improving ranged combat, adding more bosses and mini-bosses, creating a more expansive world, fixing the affinity system, adding character creation, adding online elements, making the combat even quicker, expanding the limb cut system and adding trick weapons. Essentially taking every complaint about the first game and improving it.

You played the tutorial. It seems that everyone that complains about The Surge never even finishes Central Production B, it's like dropping Bloodborne after Gascoigne and saying it's shit.

You still have to make the decision of whether to target unarmored parts for damage or armored parts for gear. And mid-game introduces PROTEUS zombies that regenerate parts and have different movesets based on what you cut (they are expanding on this in The Surge 2)

Different setting, limb targeting system, ducking and jumping, ability to change builds at any point, energy bar that rewards aggressive play (also turtling is impossible), weapon combos.
