When did the Layton games escalate so much? I played the DS games a long time ago. Those always dangled supernatural stuff in front of you that turned out to have a reasonable explanation by the end of the game, but now in the 3DS games I'm running around ancient civilizations with laser beams and robot fortresses, all the while Richard Branson is trying to gun me down with his airship.

Why does everything the japanese make eventually devolve into final fantasy?

>final fantasy

Try Ghibli

>every game presents a thing that appears to be supernatural, but isn't

>HEY THIS GAME IS SHOWING SOMETHING THAT APPEARS TO BE SUPERNATURAL WHAT THE FUCK

>Those always dangled supernatural stuff in front of you that turned out to have a reasonable explanation by the end of the game

>reasonable explanation

If really stupid explanation that is pulled out of the ass and completely breaks any suspension of disbelief is your definition of reasonable explanation you're right.

Come on, you gotta admit things have gotten crazy.

Yeah because a town populated by robots and AN ENTIRE FAKE CITY UNDERGROUND were perfectly reasonable things

Layton 4 started the path, but it was the Layton movie that went crazy with muh superancient kangz civilization. I thought Layton 5 was still decent but Layton 6 sucked, more for structure reasons than anything else.

Layton 7 actually deescalates things but ends up being the worst one in the series since there practically isn’t a plot.

>>15830357

To elaborate Layton 7 still has a crazy twist but it’s an actual asspull instead of something that is slightly hinted at throughout the game but too crazy to predict, like in the other games.

db69ac  No.15830756

That sounds better honestly, the original games had fucking stupid plot twists that tried to make an universe that is already kind of whimsical and crazy into something more reasonable which was fucking retarded. This is just a natural development tbh.

Never really liked the main Layton games enough to finish them, but the "twist" at the end of Wright vs Layton was fucking retarded.

a77425  No.15832094

they were technically possible things; the original Layton trilogy gave you perfectly reasonable explanations for seemingly paranormal events that make you wish the paranormal event was the truth:

The town is being menaced by a vampire lord? No, everyone's just been tripping balls on hallucinogenic gas for the last 50 years.

>time travelling is real and not just some radio waves fuckery

>time travelling ghost lolis lol

I hate this. It only showcases writers' inability to write coherent and interesting stories without cornering themselves into unsolvable situations. No way out? Supernatural shit! You can fix everything with time travelling and ghosts.

Even Ghost Trick after establishing more or less consistent rules of how ghost powers operate asspulls time travelling at the last moment.

Adding some actual supernatual elements to a fictional story is better than adding some bullshit rationalization that makes even less sense like "actually the water was drugged and made them ignore certain colors!"

ba6afd  No.15833361

>>15833241

Supernatural elements are good only when the follow rules established beforehead.

You can't just use ghost mediums as legit witness in court, if you couldn't before.

You can't just have ghost time travel at the last time if you couldn't before.

You can't just have supernatural shit appear for the last 10 minutes of the story.

I dunno about layton, but none of the games and VNs I mentioned did it properly.
