In previous X games, you used these to fly faster and to pass time when you needed to get weapons/resources from complexes or factories.

Travel mode made SETA kind of redundant for former so it can only be used for latter now.

Yeah I know, I suppose you could still use it for that, but is made redundant as you said for actual travel. I guess if you want to watch over base building or some other operation it might be useful. Instead of waiting real time for an AI ship to arrive to do, whatever.

This may be a newnigger question but what are the best games for being a space trader that aren't Elite Dangerous? I wanna play a spess game where I can smuggle spacedope while avoiding pirates, something like that. Doesn't matter what genre it is, I'm open to pretty much anything. Are the X games good for something like that?

>>15865045

It's nowhere near as good as LOGH but Crest/Banner of the Stars is a pretty good space opera show. Kinda slows down during the first season of Banner but picks up again during the second season. Also Ekuryua is cute and I want to pet cats with her.

Thanks for the recommendation. I do have to mention though that I didn't only mean space related things. I'm just talking about things that are as good as LOGH, no matter the setting or medium. I don't think there's anything as good as it in motion-picture. Maybe 2001 (coincidentally also space related). When I first saw LOGH, I thought to myself "I didn't even know something was capable of being this good". There have only been books that have given me the same feeling.

>Should I start with TC or just play AP since I've heard that it's the better of the two.

Vanilla AP has more content and sectors.

>Also, should I play with any of the overhaul mods I've seen out there?

I recommend to play vanilla game before touching LxXRM or Litcube mainly to learn controls and get basics of gameplay.

>I've seen people say that the game is much better with Litcube's, will I be overwhelmed if I just go into it with all the new shit that that adds?

There is big chance that it would happen.

Also as new player either turn off Phanon(a.k.a. Player 2 which hates you) or OCV(Borg which slowly conquers galaxy with overpowered ships) in your first Litcube's playthrough.

Just a few pointers

The stock market is so broken that its literally cheating.

If you ever end up "Trusted" with Argon you will be given a faction mission to "Help with the war effort" triggered by traveling to M148. Doing so will cause the faggot to call you up at random and demand you go somewhere because of reasons. These are mildly annoying on your own however they kick you out of SETA every time they happen and you can't unsubscribe from this jackass's mailing list.

If you're trading and going on a long expedition park often and save often. The autopilot in SETA will occasionally position you wrong for the docking approach causing you to splatter on a station. Normally this kills you, but if you're a capital ship you can damage to the station which will cause the sector police to become hostile.

I've got a few

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6LFkMniuTk

Star Blazers Yamato 2199 is a 2013 remake of the original series. It's pretty good, with ship battles acting out as if at sea, so Yamato gets attacked from a sub-like vessel that fires torpedoes from fold-space and they have to dodge but also guess where it is. The adventure of getting there in one piece and back again reminds me of Voyager in a way. Plus the OP preps you for that journey.

Second is Z.O.E: Dolores, I. Follows the Links family after Jame Links receives Dolores, a frame-runner from his supposedly dead wife on mars. The first have is them actually trying to get to Mars from Earth while evading the authorities, second half sees them caught up in the conflict between the two planets. Dolores is /clang/ levels of robot and James just wants to get his family back together and I really get that. Plus it's late 90s and Kojima was involved, so it's a relic of it's time.

Space Dandy is another one but if you only see one episode of it make it ep 21, it's a different shift in tone where Dandy ends up on Planet Limbo and themes of life, death and entropy play out and it really makes you think.

Other than that, there are a few other titles like outlaw star, coyote ragtime and Bodacious Space Pirates but Yamato and Z.O.E I would recommend.

Stellaris is pretty fucking great. I didn't much like the other paradox games I bought but Stellaris is pretty nice except when I get late game on a massive galaxy and my toaster starts shitting bricks because I have Hulu playing and a screen reserved for shitposting while I play.

Rimworld is fun as shit but I need to take a break after putting 200 hours into it.

>ai still shit

It's actually worse now.

Due to the complicated nature of the economy now, the ai can end up in a death spiral that causes its economy to get nuked and stay nuked through out the game.

The high crime brought by one thing or another translates to low overall stability which causes the star nations to balkanize through revolutions.

Hell, i have seen machine revolutions start balkanizing while still fighting their war to end all squishies and at one point i encountered a bug which caused a machine age civ to rebel against itself and revolutionize all the way to space age, adopting an alien as their ruler and then starving because they lacked the needed infrastructure to keep themselves alive.

Oh and the end game monsters (in my case contingency) no longer purge pops but instead just let them keep on growing and shit.

AI isn't shit, it's now broken both because of bugs and because the ai can't handle the new economy that runs around alloys and consumer goods and the resources needed to make those resources.

Oh and space pirasy is rampant because it was reworked and now it is based on how guarded/unguarded yoru trade routes are and pirates spawn on weak parts of your trade route, potentially cutting your empires trade in half and creating the aforementioned death spiral.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain

And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking

Racing around to come up behind you again

The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on quiet desperation is the English way

The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

BREATHE REPRISE

Home, home again

I like to be here when I can

And when I come home cold and tired

It's good to warm my bones beside the fire

Far away across the field

The tolling of the iron bell

Calls the faithful to their knees

To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

It probably has something to do with the fact that while they have changed the gameplay by a great deal since the beginning of the game, they never actually reworked the AI.

Hell, i wouldn't be surprized if under the hood the AI was the very same one they used when they launched the game.

That's pretty true from what I've seen. The AI is still pretty fucking terrible with recent games I've had with friends. I remember by the time the end game crises rolled around all the AI was still stuck at tier 1-3 tech. Although in saying that, I do like the ideas they've implemented but the entire fucking balance is a complete shit show and it looks like to me it was rushed out the fucking door.

Playing Machine empires are nearly fucking impossible since your economy will collapse in 5 years. Even quicker if you're doing the bio trophy civic. You're punished for going tall or going wide no matter which direction. Either by resource constraints or by quadrupling your tech/unity cost which is much heavier than all the other versions of the game. Building a proper military is a big meme because Paradox in all their infinite wisdom just directly converted the old mineral costs of ships to alloys and chucked a bunch of rare resource costs without realizing that alloys are much harder to manufacture thanks to requiring both a building slot and three times as much minerals to make a alloy. The market is easily broken by doing the most obvious market exploit that when I first heard of the galactic market I promised to myself I was going to laugh my ass off if they didn't think of that and decided to make measures against it. Sure enough in my multiplayer game it fucking happened. Lastly, it looks like it's nearly fucking impossible to get ready for the crisis when the economy game is going to be a complete cluster fuck.

So what we basically have is a patch that pretty much forces you into a mindset of balancing your logistics far more than warfare with warfare being a rather risky endeavor since you'll just end up fucking yourself with admin cap right after an expansion that was all about warfare. Making the militarist play style (unless you go what I've been doing lately, life seeded feudal empires which works surprising well if you're good at early game aggression) nearly fucking worthless right after an entire warfare expansion all about war. The fucking irony.

Apparently the next expansion will be focused on diplomacy and hopefully some fucking work will be done on the AI but for now we're left with this complete shitshow of balancing issues.

And they still haven't fixed tall, wide and tech thing. Fabulous.

The new economy game mainly forces players to start minamxing their planets, creating agri-worlds, forge worlds, mining worlds etc.

The way the game works now is that the planets get themselves a designation based on what sorta industry/stuff they got most on their surface, so if you got osmething like 5 or more refineries that churn out special resources, your world gets nicknamed as a refinery world while if you got alloy forges up the wazoo on a planet it gets named a forge world.

Each of these designations gives the planet a bonus to specific production and works also on research.

What you should avoid doing is make a planet that tries to do in general everything, it just gets turned into rural world with some rather shitty bonuses.

Thrall worlds are one helluva mineral mine if you can make some.

Ecumenopolises are great for things like research worlds, refinery worlds, forge worlds and trade planets, the habitats are in general trash except they can be made to enhance your trade value generation with right methods.

Also a word of warning to ye who build megastructures and ecumenopolises.

none of them can produce minerals and ecumenopolis cannot produce food or electricity either, so you must always have few worlds set on mining and energy production or you can just switch over from old fusion plants into the newest form of green energy, trade value, be amazed as a million happy merchants rubbing their hands together are able to produce enough electricity to run a star empire.

Also ring worlds no longer produce minerals, they still do produce energy and food though.

Habitats produce none of those main resources.

Stellaris on hardest difficulty and ironman mode. The best xeno holocaust simulator

The start is insanely hard, if you survive the first two wars you will be so fucking far ahead of everyone else that the rest of the game is about micromanaging your ever growing population while stomping scrubs because they dared making those branch offices in the planets you want to make them (don't make them a vassal, that don't remove the branch offices and makes it impossible for you to force them to via Hostile Takeover war goal).

Also, don't make rivalries with your neighbors, because they will fuck you up if you don't rush 20/20 ships, and they get 40/40 before you do. I've found myself buying time to sue for white peace because the war took too long. That 0.5 influence will most likely not be worth sucking dick

Planets are the big shit, don't bother with sectors unless they have a blackhole (1000 minerals/month mega structure requires one)

You can get your big dick huge stations with 9/9 defenses all you want, if the enemy don't have to pass through a straight line over it, they can just skip them to attack your planets

Avoid winning easy wars fast, as you can take control of all sectors resources for as long as the war lasts for no Empire Cap cost, just make sure to not let your war exhaustion each 100 nor give the chance for them to surrender (they automatically do if you can sue for war goal). Leave that last one planet for when you are about to force to end the war

You can go past the Empire Cap, but you should never ever do that unless you are already at the 10th repeat on most research projects, that shit will fuck your research fast. 10% sounds like nothing, but it's cumulative and exponential.

Always rush research, all other ways of playing the game are wrong, even if they probably work

They're not doing a full MMO anymore, the small team decided Infinity: The Quest for Earth was out of scope for their tiny team. So they're doing a solar system war game instead, something more like planetside 1. So, now it's Infinity: Battlescape instead. Match based, economy is per match, and the matches are supposed to last anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on the parameters.

It's the same engine with seamless full scale planets and shit. There are currently factories/mining outposts spread accross each planet's surface, and the goal of each match is to cripple the opponent's production and hangar facilities until you ultimately destroy enough of their stations that you win.

embed is some fighter gameplay from a few weeks ago, with a few attack runs on some base turrets.

I've been having some fun with X4, but a few things bother me right now:

First of all, station building is way too easy - I took my HQ and just started building multiple of everything on it. After a few days I had a megastructure that mass produces huge salable surpluses of everything. There really should be balances in place, like waste byproducts or various radiations that make having certain modules incompatible within a certain distance to other modules, or one type of production severely diminishes the productivity of another type of production, etc. Having a single station build everything and produce more income than I can figure out how to spend is very lame and boring. They also put the PHQ in way too useful a sector - in the middle of all races in a dense resource rich asteroid field. Put it in a totally barren sector 6 gates from the nearest inhabited world and MAYBE it would be a challenge making it profitable.

Secondly, the various empires are all way too active (weird complaint considering how sterile and empty X3 felt I guess.) In my current game, in the time it took me to build my megastation, the other empires have seemingly built dozens if not hundreds of little specialized stations all over the place - yet all of them have shortages in their wharfs and shipyards so severe that I've had ships on order waiting for 10+ hours at all of them. Once the January patch hits and I can glue some shipyards to my PHQ, I'll be able to easily steamroll over the cosmos.

Third, the combat is a joke. I can take a single Nemesis corvette with 4 medium bolt cannons and a torpedo launcher and clear entire Xenon sectors. Even destroyers have nothing - just get in close so the "go along for a ride" mode kicks in and you auto-hover in place no matter how they maneuver, and then just sit there between their engines like a genital wart and shoot until they explode. That proximity gravity reference frame mechanic should be disabled for enemy ships at the very least, and probably disabled for any ships you don't actively have an open docking invitation for.

And then finally, I don't really see how the player's economy does much to shape the universe. I could spam stations across all sectors, but what would that really do except make more money? I could kill everyone with ships, but I want to be able to kill empires with business. I'd love a mod to make it so all empires can no longer construct stations or ships themselves - they ALL have to go through you. You could actually dive deep into all kinds of political machinations and weaponized economics and make empires choke or flourish at your whims. It'd be much more interesting than this, but there'd need to be serious additions - like assassins and hardcore station-destroying sabotage bombings and shit like that. If everyone's welfare hinges on you, you'd expect things not to be so rosy after all.

Anyway, X4 is a fun game so far only played 52 hours so far and will play more. 7/10 it has potential to be something really good if they release substantial patches and expansions over the next ~5 years.

What are the production bonus from having forge/energy/agri world? I thought it was just flavor. Or are you talking about the Energy Nexus and the mineral/food equivalent buildings?

Ring Worlds are pretty shit now. If you're unable to expand you'll need to maximize your mineral production on every planet, maximize your trade value on every planet so consumer goods aren't being manufactured through artisans. Ring Worlds don't help all that much with that. Habitats are amazing though since they provide easy building space (IE stick all your forges/consumer goods buildings on habitats) and since they provide the most important resource in 2.2: population growth.

Let's take a minute to talk about how important pop growth is now. Before 2.2 a size 10 planet could house 10 pops, you'd have your administration building, you'd get your adjacency bonus from your admistration building, you'd have your unity buildings, and that's pretty much it. If you had migration, one tile would be getting worked about 15%-20% of the time at best. Now a size 10 planet can fit 80+ pops. The more planets you have, the more growth sources you get, the more growth sources you get, the more resources you can squeeze out of your planets. On the flip side, purging/displacing xenos hurts your economy a LOT. Taking a planet with 80 pops means 80 more slaves or workers if you're some sort of xeno loving faggot to work in your hellholes. But purging/eating those 80 pops is the same as losing out on years' worth of growth for your empire. And habitability is a huge deal now, trying to colonize a planet at 50% habitability means 50% more food/consumer goods costs. A very low % habitability could mean a planet is actually a detriment to your economy. Which in turn makes Highly Adaptive trait and the special tradition tree that genocidals, hive minds, and despoilers get even better.

Biggest problems I have right now is that the piracy system is dumb even if you manage it well enough to never have pirates spawning, and that the khan/crisis/fallen empires haven't been rebalanced to the new economy system. Had the khan spawn in a huge galaxy on admiral difficulty at around 2300. He had more fleet power than the rest of the normal empires in the galaxy combined. Hell, if every empire had gotten together and combined all the fleets as one to fight all of the khan's fleets in a glorious battle, the galaxy's fleets would've gotten crushed. Had the Scourge spawn on 1.25x crisis strength on a huge galaxy and the small roaming fleets had 140k power, which was about as much as I had and I had been swallowing my corner of the galaxy for a good 50 years before they showed up.

Move the midgame disasters to 2400 and late game ones to 2500, problem solved

>And habitability is a huge deal now, trying to colonize a planet at 50% habitability means 50% more food/consumer goods costs. A very low % habitability could mean a planet is actually a detriment to your economy. Which in turn makes Highly Adaptive trait and the special tradition tree that genocidals, hive minds, and despoilers get even better.

You got only 50% right. You always take the non adaptable trait. By 2330 you will be terraforming all planets to gaia, you can handle the 70% hab on your main planet type until then

I always quite liked the X2 docking, where you have to locate a hole in the station hull and carefully maneuver into it, then fly through the tunnels on the inside to your parking spot and if you fuck up a single step you either explode or damage the station, which means you're now inside a hostile station that wants to kill you.

E:D has too much docking from open space where you just have to fly straight down.

Terraforming to Gaia World is bugged and removes most of the available districts. Hell, with that trait, having an ocean species colonizing a continental world might produce a deficit. It's *that* bad. The only way I can see it being decent is if you're running Slaver's Guild with Stratified Economy, and you try to avoid putting non-workers on low habitability planets as much as possible. But outside of that exception, putting pops on a planet they get low habitability on is awful. Have fun with your rulers costing 1.8 consumer goods and your specialists costing 0.9 goods and all your pops costing 1.8 food to maintain. Even if you manage to squeeze out some profit from low habitability planets, the extra district costs won't make it worth it.

NEW DLC INCOMING

Features:

“Minor Factions” Gameplay Option - Enable the spawning of minor factions! Each game will place a number of minor factions onto the map to expand your strategic and tactical options.

15 new minor factions - Send envoys to persuade minor factions to join your empire and cultivate their unique abilities and advantages. Minor Factions include:

>Nilari Cultists: These fanatical Advent cultists command waves of suicidal martyrs, sacrifice their people for devastating effects, and indoctrinate nearby populations to accelerate their cause. Be careful, though - with the end being near, they don't always discriminate between friend and foe, and it won’t matter whether you’ve won them to your side or not!

>Viturak Transport Cabal: Vasari technology is notoriously difficult to get ahold of. Contact the Cabal to gain access to black market Vasari travel tech, including phase engine improvements and the ability to execute covert raids. If they let you into the back room, you may even find yourself with a stolen Antorak Marauder that you could pair with their local phase stabilizer…

>Grost Scrappers Union: Credits don’t discriminate, and neither does this faction! These underground human entrepreneurs accept payment from anyone. If you need an armor retrofit, a quick field repair, a great deal on resources, or even a place to convert those obsolete frigates into profitable scrap - these are your guys!

>12 additional minor factions: Each faction provides abilities and advantages unique to their theme and role, including mercenaries, xenophobes, pacifists, used ship dealers, demolition experts, resource miners, resistance fighters, arms dealers and more!

Playan' starsector. It's pretty good – the combat is great and I love the details in this, from shit like tracking a colony's population, it's resources and habitability, to all the stuff you can encounter while salvaging.

Only problem is I found a battered Paragon-class battleship orbiting a sun in some remote system, took it over and fixed it, and now there's nothing to challenge me since this beast can easily obliterate entire armadas on its own. For endgame stuff, you can go to threat level: red systems (there should be a glowing red beacon in hyperspace) which have things quite a bit scarier than a paragon. Alternatively, bring peace to the entire sector by saturation bombarding every planet you don't own into dust; the massive swarms of pirates you encounter after doing this can provide quite some challenge. Also, you can go to the list of planets and sift through the luddic path stations, targeting whichever ones are most convenient; they can be a lot more difficult than one expects.

Habitats are pretty shitty right now. They cost a fortune and don't produce much (except in special cases where you have livestock, I heard they are good for that). I think they should have a production bonus from minerals to simulate asteroid mining or something. It's really shitty how asteroid mining is almost completely absent in a space game like this, and habitats would really excel at it, since you could just build them near a 95% metal asteroid.

Yeah if you've got the kind of space autism that likes plotting orbits and managing delta-v it's great. It's a near-future setting, all of the technology in it is either currently available or plausible in the near-future. The strategy element takes place on a larger map where you plot your burns and skip minutes/hours/days/months at your leisure. When you/your missiles/your drones make a pass at an enemy it goes into a realtime encounter where you've got a window of time granted to you by however close your encounter is. Then you can take more control of your ship and weapons as you have a sort-of jousting match. You can build your own ships and weapons as well. I made a gun that shoots diamonds, it's not very good.

All the physics are by-the-book and stuff like lagrange points are implemented. If you penetrate an enemies fuel storage and they run completely out of delta-v they'll float off into space or be unable to de-orbit. It's kind of hard to compare it to anything else in the space genre. Maybe like, Aurora but on a smaller, combat-focused scale.

the time has never been better. Things are a little fucked right now because chapter 4 beyond launched recently and fdev are incompetent.

However.

MINING OVERHAUL THAT PAYS SHITLOADS and is way more interesting then shooting lasers at rocks.

Exploration overhaul which is also tied to signal sources. No more flying around scanning for bullshit, now you sit in one place and scan for bullshit. You can now probe planets to discover every point of interest on that planet. No more flying around trying to figure out coordinates you found on some forums and eyeballing the surface.

Open is still pointless unless you want wing of fdls interdicting your trader. Online meta is evolving in the most retarded way possible. Everyone copies the builds that everyone else copies and then act blindsided when someone picks the natural counter and call for nerfs.

For example, shield tanks used to be the meta until everyone started using disruption torpedos and mines, but if you use point defense everyone will call you a noob because that point defense slot is considered better utilized as an extra shield booster slot or chaff/heatsink. so now NO ONE shield tanks and everyone hull tanks. Im starting to think there is more to this than boomers wanting Elite 1 but with better graphics - I mean, consider the SRV. Q and E to speed up or slow down, but not like in any other sensible driving game where you would hold the button. Instead you add permanent throttle like you would in your ship.

So now I'm forced to fuck around for half an hour to find a sensible control setup for this thing when they COULD have used control schemes that have been established in driving games since the dawn of gaming.

I'm beginning to think Fdev do this shit on purpose to increase the amount of time players need for pretty much every little interaction, just to draw out the play time. If they ever implement space legs, it'll probably work like Octodad.

437b70  No.15917406

You can't even argue that "it's REALISTIC" most of the time because if you wanted realism, the majority of features would be automated in such a highly advanced space faring age. You sure as shit wouldn't land by playing 3D Lunar Lander.

a9724c  No.15917444

>>15917395

>>15917406

You have to remember that the game supports HOTAS controls. While it appears to be set up for XBOX controls, they do seem to take HOTAS into special consideration when it comes to the vehicles. Not tzhe menus though. So these mixed consideration lead to no control scheme to be good for everything. It's a fucking mess.

I also agree that the game probably deliberately wastes your time. Considering how little there actually is to truly do and how much less even it was back in the beginning, it's very plausible.

437b70  No.15917527

>>15917444

You're right and your trips confirm. I didn't take a HOTAS setup into account. Even then though, they could easily a) detect a HOTAS hardware setup and adjust the controls accordingly and b) have a dedicated, sensible setup for KB/M, controller and HOTAS all neatly separated from each other.

you can't make more on ratios alone those ratios only matter if they sell near what they would on a larger platform (steam) that extra 18% won't matter if they only get ~40% of sales

Everspace is good. I put in 70 hours, and the random generation works fine due to the space setting. The plot/setting was pretty decent, actually, and I liked the REAL final boss. It peppers in enough new stuff to keep you from falling into a set pattern, and the add-on DLC helps with this. There's rare artifacts that allow you to change the game rules between runs, like removing the enemy reinforcement countdown at the expense of some other stats, or a special gun that eats health when you shoot (it's a good gun). Also because you get to retain certain upgrades, you get nudged towards late-game faster without having to fret too much over RNGesus screwing you over (It never felt like it screwed me, but it can still be mean). The base gameplay has a small amount of grind to it, but it doesn't hurt really. Combat is solid, and there's a lot of it. You can even reach the point of taking down capital ships if you git gud and manage supplies/loot carefully.

Osiris: New Dawn is bad. It feels like an early access unity game. Enemies are shittily/not animated, and respawn before you even leave areas, MMO style. Feels quite grindy without sufficient payoff. Gave up after 4 hours, because the big sandworm wasn't worth it. Supposedly it's better in multiplayer, but what isn't? Might become better someday, but it seems unlikely.

Outside of that, it is a good time to play and enjoy yourself but man the community makes me glad that retard markers like docking computers exist. Between them and streamers I get to work out my annoyance on just how retarded the majority of the people playing the game are.

The economic system is good and very small, so it's easy to see any impact on economy instantly, once you deliver demanded goods or destroy someone's freighter.

After a few hours I was too tired of trading, so I haven't tried combat in campaign, only in skirmish.

Game is sector based and their size are small.

For me it's harder to feel distances between sectors, cause you only get a timer of days you can skip, rather than a graphical map with actual position of bodies in this star system and trajectories of your fleet.

>humans inventing hypergates

NO!

Humans invented the hyperspace travel that allowed FTL without the use of hypergates. That was one of the things that made humans special. At least one empire in GalCiv would give pre-FTL civilizations hypergate tech just so they wouldn't have to go through STL travel speeds to invade them. That was actually how humans invented hyperdrive tech; the empire that used that method to conquer gave them the tech and humans instead turned out hyperdrive tech. Humans then proceeded to go around the galaxy handing out hyperdrive tech to everyone, which was as stupid as it sounds given the empires that got it.

I'm happy to see it make a return, but at least make something that makes sense with the ridiculous lore of the games. Something that would fit the game mechanics and flow. For example: as empires expand they see the old tech in new light as it allowed faster, but more rigid travel than hyperdrive.

I am happy to see the shape shifting dragon jews return, though. It was amusing to see your cash in flow spike as the galaxy went to shit from wars everywhere.

>have the devs already started flailing around with the nerfing, completely destroying faction viability, yet like they did to 1?

There has been a nerf on Tyranid ship costs and apparently the dark eldar have also been visited by the nerf fairy, though effects of it are under argument still and i have no further info on that.

>Is it the same micromanagement ability fest like 1?

Kinda yes, kinda no.

Because there is now an auto-attack button along side the good old choose facing front/sides as well as engagement range which basically just means where the ship starts govering around without moving closer.

Also the torpedoes, nova cannon shots, fighters, boarding actions both assault boats and lightning strikes and most abilities now have limited uses.

>Are they seriously going forward with that retarded control points system?

Yes, imo its fine but you aren't alone in your opinion of it sucking.

>Did they get rid of the "you have to wait X number of battles for your damaged and destroyed ships to come back" system for multiplayer

Seems that way so far.

Also they added crew count to the ships which affects how well you can fight off enemy boarders, how well your ship in general works and if you can still launch any more boarding actions or not regardless of your amount of remaining boarding actions.

If your ship crew gets depleted the ship turns into a drifting hulk that can either be grabbed bag with a boarding action, giving it few crew members to move the ship around and use the guns, or you could detonate the ship, which at the moment seems to be more powerfull than a nova cannon blast.

Also nova cannons accuracy is now pin point accurate but it still takes time for the shot to land.

Further stuff of note, the tyranids are slow, have low amounts of guns with pretty high damage but low fire rate and ungodly high levels of boarding damage/crew per ship, meaning that they are basically less shooty super orks of the previous game.

Also their full speed ahead gives them a turn boost so you could launch one of them at an enemy even if your ass was pointed towards him.

Necrons seem kinda meh so far, im gonna try them out in skirmish mode a few more times but so far there hasn't been anything too special about them, they are rather average in general.

Regarding story mode, if BFGA1 was like dawn of war then BFGA2 is like dark crusade. Each faction will have their own story mode like this.

And finally about the A.I.

It's kinda like something out of dawn of war 2, sometimes competent (except for ramming eldar ships) but they put their retard hat on the moment they start capping points, for example just standing there while under heavy enemy fire without doing anything, like dodging torpedoes or rams.

On the other hand, i think im starting to get the hang of the Necrons.

They lack shields but compensate with armor, some of their weapons ignore shields and they got a stance that allows their shots to arch from target to target.

Also at least their battleship is armed with an ability that scares the shit out of the enemy ships.

Oh and morale is now shown as this yellow/orange bar under the hull health bar.

More things that might interest you folks, in skirmish and PvP modes your fleet is no longer as permanent as in previous game, you can pick and choose what battlefleet/clan/chapter they come from and there are premade fleets as well as ability to just make up one of your owns or multiple own ones which you can then save and reuse later.

Skills and Upgrades are now fleet wide instead of just per ship like in previous game.

Favors seem to be out as well, at least i haven't seen any ways to make my IN ships more space mariney, inquisitorial, navyish or cog boyish.

Also here are some stats of the Necron battleship.

>Reactor overloads/Warp drive explosions were pretty fucking nasty in the tabletop.

Jesus. That's effectively a 1/3 chances of doing a whole shit ton of damage. 8-12 on a 2d6? Makes you wonder if players saw a ship as a lost cause and had the other vessels just say "sorry buddy, we're gonna put some space between you and the rest of the fleet."

Sounds heaps better tbh because the old system encouraged endless grinding until you had fully upgraded ships with full level crew that cost the same(!) as a fresh lvl 1 cruiser.

Are the Imperial Grand Cruisers (Vengeance/Avenger/Exorcist) in too? BEcause I see an Apocalyse class added.

>>16010906

Even better, capitals could deliberately detonate themselves when boarded by Nids.

The real MVPs of the Nid fleets however were Escort Drones and their ability to mass hilariously cheap and strong pyro acid batteries (20pts for a Str 4 battery vs. ~30-35pts for comparable firepower fielded by the Imperial Navy/Chaos)

I tried out the fleet creator and made couple meme fleets, then tested them against the craft world eldar.

First fleet got owned because it turns out lances aren't a good weapon against eldar ships.

Second fleet on the other hand proved that by tossing tons of rocks at an enemy ships (and torpedoes) you can claim victory.

Also when you have all ships chosen and launch torps, all of your ships fire at the same time.

Not sure is dark eldar and Tau are divided between Merchant fleet (the ye olde Tau ships) and Navy (manta rays).

Also i decided to try out my anti-eldar fleet against the nids, first time i won through several ships blowing up their reactors, second time i decided to try out some torpedo spamming.

It worked pretty well till i ran out of torpedoes, used some melta torps and just set them all on fire, after which they rammed few of my ships, few routed and then their entire fleet apparently routed because i won that game.

3394b2  No.16012381

>>16011951

Zerg are based on the Nids, but Nids are not Zerg. They have numbers and strength. Tyrannid armor is notoriously difficult to penetrate, and Genestealer claws alone can rend through Terminator armor. If you know anything about T armor, that's fucking ridiculous, and is about as hard a substance as exists in the universe of 40k. Their ships aren't just floating bags of meat.

Although if you mean weak offensively like with turrets and whatnot, that I can understand. Canon wise you'd expect lots of ramming and boarding.

See those tendrils outside the galaxy poking at the galaxy?

Those are hive fleets, that's the sorta level of swarm we are talking about.

Also another info dump on new BFGA 2 regarding the nids.

Nids start the game in stealth mode and thanks to the way the game has been reworked, stances like stealth, brace for impact, etc, are now permanent until either the generator or the bridge gets knocked out or until you switch it, so to put it short, nids start the game invisible and remain so until spotted.

Nid ships are in general slow as shit, but can rush several thousand kilometers.

Rushing will of course show them to their enemies.

Also one of the command ship skills you can pick with them is pic related, it's worked wonders so far.

No, it is. Starcraft was originally meant to be a 40k game, and then something fucky happened with licensing issues and who was allowed to do what. They had already put in the work, so they had to figure out how to salvage it. There's a reason that game has parallels to Astartes, Nids, and the Tau/Eldar.

Those stances are why they are dead set against removing the domination mode in campaign. Set up a fleet to deal with assassination missions by having only ships that can stay in stealth, which is especially aggravating for a fast faction like any of the Eldar. I'm sure there are ways around it, but I don't think the dev team is competent enough to figure out how.
