>Agents,

>All good things must come to an end, and so it is with Blacklight: Retribution.

>Thank you for so much for your loyal support, and love over the years. From the initial PC Closed Beta in November 2011 to today, it has been a great 7+ years. The joy that we got out of Blacklight: Retribution is a testament to you the fans; your loyalty, dedication, support, and ultimate willingness to try our fun, quirky FPS.

>Why is this happening? The reality is Hardsuit Labs has been engaged for some time now in some very interesting projects that require the full focus of the development teams and leadership. The studio capacity and resources are and have been entirely engaged with these projects and will be for the foreseeable future. As such, we officially will no longer be patching, updating, or doing technical support for Blacklight Retribution. Account migration will officially shut down as of today, as will the official support site.

>Starting today, all items in the PC store will be made free, and we hope that you continue to enjoy the game and items up until the PC servers are shut down on March 11th, 2019. The PS4 version of Blacklight Retribution will continue to operate as-is since there are no game servers being hosted for it.

>We welcome your feedback, comments, questions, and memories on our social media @PlayBlacklight or @HardsuitLabs, our Reddit community here and the BLR Discord channel.

>As a studio, Blacklight: Retribution will always have a special place in our hearts. One that is largely due to our amazing community, so thank you to all the Blacklight: Retribution fans out there.

>–Hardsuit Labs

>Important Dates

>February 8th

>* PC Store unlocked and free

>* PC Account migration shut down

>March 11th

>* PC game servers shut down permanently

>* Support shut down

Because PvP f2p games are cancer from the beginning. Every single one. Even the successful ones, because they are successful by getting lucky with attracting the normals, and not because they're actually good. They are entirely the domain of incompetent developers who would never make it in any other tier of the gaming industry, and so they must resort to deception and scams more than any other kind of developer to make their money. They're even lower than developers who moved into video games because they couldn't make it in movies, because at least the video-games-as-movies dev creates a lasting product. Though its legacy may be one of hot garbage.

My list of disappointments became as long as yours before I figured this out.

4c0c85  No.16099685

It's just heartbreaking. At some point(MNC) I outright stopped spending money on any multiplayer game because I know what's going to happen and I just seek to have as much fun as possible with it before it dies. It's a fact I'm very aware of but it always hurts me whenever it happens, especially in the case of Gignatic or Atlas Reactor where it's clearly shitty publishers putting the game in an unwinnable situation.

b9b713  No.16099740

>>16099659

I remember Spiral Knights being released on steam and was brimming with people mostly because of the TF2 hat, and pretty much everyone was complaining about the absolutely shitty fatigue system they call "Energy". It took the devs way too long to remove it and ended up being as alive as a man in a vegetable state. The nigh absolute lack of updates recently is not helping at all either, it's only a matter of time until they're done milking the whales and pull the plug.

I managed to enjoy it until parity patch dropped. Dunno how bad the microtransactions got but during the time I played I'd say they dragged what would have been a 10/10 game down to 6/10 with some decent moments.

GITS:FAO did the same shit but not quite as bad. Good amount of customization in both but absolutely shit on by the monetization system. I got to enjoy maybe less than 10% of the unlockable content in both because I refused to pay for the microtransactions and I'm not autistic enough to sink 1000 hrs into it.

>>16100645

Except he's right and anyone who has been around to witness the rise and death of games like this knows it. With a f2p game you're guaranteed to have a subhuman publisher who will force the devs to make new skins instead of balance gameplay and add maps. Since it's f2p they have no obligation to keep the servers up and so once the profits dip enough they just shut it down. This kills the game since server-side player accounts and zero support for local game hosting have been standard for over a decade.

With a p2p game there's the expectation that the servers stay up as long as publisher can afford. Theoretically there will be less grind for player equipment but sadly the kikes have convinced the average gaymer that they don't have any issues with grinding for gameplay items in match-based multiplayer games and so no one complains about it because they're too retarded to.

All of this would be fixed if player accounts didn't exist and player hosting + server browsers were standard.

>years later they just leave it in this broken husk of a mess while the already small playerbase dies off

>they take three years to do a simple weapons balancing patch that doesn't even do all that much

>become completely silent for another year

>now this

Why would anyone be surprised by this? The game was murdered by Hardsuit Labs and was a lot better off just in this limbo state of non development Zombie Studios left it in previously cause at least then it was a functioning game with good balance.

I loved the style and setting of the game. The ways that they took the futuristic/digital aspects and molded that into the gameplay was amazing when I first played it. The smoke grenade being replaced by a grenade that would put static over your UI shocked me because I thought it was really damn clever. The guns felt great, and the amount of customization everything had was almost like Warframe or something, where it felt like an extension of you as a player.

I'm genuinely upset, because it felt like a lot of potential was just shoved into the garbage. I don't think we'll see another game like it.

if the whole wallhacks didnt peak people's attention than its the weapon and gear customization where you can swap around scopes muzzles barrels mag types etc. You could have build gear heavy spam builds with heavy armor or just ran around at max speed with no gear with light armor going faster than most people would check their wallhacks. Could have build sneak classes that made it harder for you to see visually and wallhacks. Could have specced yourself for mech usage.

but all this shit changed when they removed the stamina bar nerfed melee items. heavy Gear spam builds was basically the only thing you could do. All mech gear was cut off when you can just through a few rockets or gas grenades or flame type weapons.

I just wish the settings and characters would be used in a decent singleplayer game if I can't have these games anymore. There are plenty of character in Atlas Reactor I'd like to play as in their own game, most of all the possessed doll. Likewise in gigantic, specifically Tito The Swift because a one armed swordowl is a pretty neat idea and the way the game was actually designed it had actual melee combat with moves, dodging, momentum and tech instead of slap fights every other shitshow in the supposed competitor pool(Overbotch and Paladins: Bugs of The Realm). Spiral Knights had an uber comfy setting and it's a shame to waste it on a bunch of fuckers who, exactly like Hawken, exactly like Blacklight, picked up the game after OOO rings dropped it and all they've done is break the game's balance(Introduced pets who bring occasionally really strong buffs into the game, while also drying up a big chunk(3 out of 8 or 6 mineral types were gone, no more fire or dark levels, only Slime and Poison from now on assholes) of the minerals used to generate levels) and then sit on their asses not coming out with any updates besides seasonal cosmetics for those whales who really need to look out of place in this absurdly good looking game.

Decent F2P FPS developed by Zombie Studios that had niggling problems in the beginning, but was otherwise a polished shooter with an interesting hook (everyone has wallhacks). The publisher sucks and the developer keeps making stupid decisions, such as making other mediocre games (Daylight), or outright bad games (Special Forces: Team X) due to weird, shady backroom dealings. As well, they keep fucking up balancing with the game, adding superfluous weapon types, and putting out shitty maps. They self-publish on the PS4 and it all goes down-hill from there. Game enters a weird stasis on PC, while they keep developing on PS4. PC version at least works though. Jared Gerritzen leaves because he fucked up on everything. A lot of decent devs like the level and sound designers leave and join Monolith. Zombie dissolves and Hardsuit Labs is formed in it's absence. They introduce a parity patch which was supposed to bring the best parts of both the PS4 and PC versions into one big update for both versions. PC had better graphics in general, better weapon balance, better audio. PS4 had more content. Instead of actually doing that, they just port the PS4 version to PC, with it's console-like menu, completely removing the completely functional and nice-looking PC menus. Graphics took a hit, lighting is worse in many places. They remove some maps and a gamemode completely. The weapon balance completely fucking sucks. After that, they piddled around with various balance tweaks and minor content drops until recently where they've decided to finally just kill the game on PC. The game will apparently still be playable on PS4 due to P2P. Instead of maybe implementing at least that feature or allowing 3rd parties to set up servers for the game, it's just going to die.

TL;DR a decent cyberpunk CoD clone is going to die because of developer mismanagement, and the people responsible are gone or don't care.

Gonna post screenshots I took years ago.

Very true. It can be especially depressing when you consider that most modern devs don't even respect their own creations anymore. Every game is just a means to an end (money) and when devs don't care about what happens to their own games, it becomes that much harder for audiences to really want to invest themselves in any game, which is likely why so few games have decent communities these days.

Another, more simple problem is they want the servers, so no dedicated servers. In the olden days you had all these servers (and even tf2 still has this) where you can mess around on a server. Even if the game 'dies' there's nothing actually stopping you from getting the multiplayer up and running. P2P still lets you do this ofc, but it dedicated servers were like bars; different ones had different styles and rules, so you'd gravitate towards specific ones you found and stay there. You'd make friends and there'd be regulars.

Not any more.

I thought it already had shut down, it's been running on empty for some time. It's not a good time for non-AAA online multiplayer, things like Dirty Bomb are closing too. It was a nice period of time when a bunch of imperfect but pleasant multiplayer games still gave you that option to opt out from the major companies. Nowadays you buy in, fuck off, or hunt down the few communities that exist in forgotten corners.

For those not sure why the game is so loved you have to consider the time frame of Blacklight Retribution top player count,Even today I consider 3 games to be a good F2P game those are ,first version of AVA,Planetside 2 and Blacklight

I made this list when I was 15 about why those games even deserve my time:

You can buy things forever with in game money, not for 3 days or 7 days, foreve

You can pick up guns from the ground(with exception of PS2),meaning that you can pick up a gun from someone who is high lvl and use it against him as long as you can stay alive

No items were op enough to make weak people win,if you can play good you will own them with a basic rifle and they will cry even harder

Sniper rifles would shoot where you point them without ADS not behind you(which happens in many games),and there can be one shot kill sniper rifles

When it comes to Blacklight for someone like me who is a pusher the camp denial was great, the cyberpunk theme, the sound when you die,Having muscle memory to buy health packs at the depot, and saving up for my healing backpack

The gun customization was and still is one of the best around in free games, you can buy a scope for 3 days to test it out,or something that my brother liked to do is buy really expensive weapons for 7 days because he could earn 2-5 times the cost with them in that week

AVA used to have that but it died,The only game still around that fits that list is Planetside 2,with permanent unlocks and weapon customization

Some games pop up from time to time and then get memoryholed,I am did follow WarFace to close so somone would have to confirm but Can you buy guns forever with regular in game currency aka silver or just real money aka gold ?

back up everything to a zip or something so you can give it out to someone who might be interested in doing it that. Those files are old im sure someone has come across decrypting them. Ive seen fags take 6 year old warframe builds (back when it was a good game) and manage to play offline but not mimic a server yet. So you can either do that or bug the studio if doesnt have plans with the ip they should just release the code before the game dies.
