On the one hand, I'd generally recommend starting with the first game in one of the two series (Arland/Rorona, or Mysterious/Sophie). On the other, the first games in both series are by far the worst. Sophie has retardedly small maps that basically amount to exploring a single open field with a couple of wandering monsters, while Rorona is only slightly better and has an insanely basic alchemy system with no depth at all, though I honestly don't know if the series improves from there or not (mysterious does)

These games are stressful time management sims and you'll miss all the events unless you use a guide. At least that's my impression from playing Rorona. Cute girls or no cute girls, I wouldn't bother.

cfc228  No.16107733

Actually i appreciate when the progression of time matter in games with RPG mechanics. This doesn't discourage me.

d90635  No.16107736

Mysterious games don't really give a fuck about time. Sophie has no time limits at all, Firis gives you a 1 year timer for the first half the game (which you will probably finish in 5 months), then unlimited. Lydie and Suelle I think only has a timer on one quest halfway through the game, they give you a month but you'll probably be done in a couple days

I'm not using a guide for Rorona so I don't know what I'm missing, but I doubt there are any miss-able town events that actually affect the story or gameplay except maybe in the last couple chapters.

80da0d  No.16107739

Get Rorona anon

Why the new games last?

Anyway i'm not even sure if i will play more than one game. So is kinda pointless talking to me in terms of "trilogies".

If what >>16107710 say is true then i should go for Firis or Lydie/Suelle (bonus point Suelle for being a gunner). And considering the design of the Arland saga kinda put me off especially Totori.

d90635  No.16107786

Firis is the best of Mysterious easily. The only major flaws are how recipes are unlocked (it can be really obtuse sometimes) and a general lack-of plot. I don't know anything about Totori or Mururu, I'm only halfway through Rorona.

Sophie is a good place to jump into the series if youre interested in the newer games. sophie is generally linear, it explains itself well, and its story is self contained but expanded over the next few games (firis & sue+lydie).

>the Atelier fanbase doesn't have a blessed enough fanbase to fix all the problems like Ar tonelico does

e0cce8  No.16114509

The French Atelier Traduction guys are pretty damn good, but they prioritize their FR translations first.

It's thanks to them that many things in the AT2 retranslation were possible, so it's just a matter of time for the other Ateliers to get some love.

82d971  No.16114791

Most games have terrible localizations. Learn Japanese instead of waiting for someone to fix them all.

3b6a6e  No.16115233

They are busy with translating Ciel nosurge to English nowadays.

d90635  No.16115416

Are we talking bugs or translation issues? I've been playing them in Japanese anyway so the latter isn't much of an issue.

167283  No.16115418

0c5a3b  No.16115485

Any of the ones with a time limit; so for PC that's Arland. The Atelier games with time limits can also be split into long-form and short-form and you may like one and not the other. Personally I think the long-form games (Totori, Ayesha and a bunch of the older untranslated Japanese titles) are better than the short form (Rorona, Meruru and countless others) games which have you constantly running errands.

d90635  No.16115496

In my limited experience, the time limit games lack any real challenging content that would force you to really master the crafting portion of the game. You generally win based on monster grinding alone, which seems odd since you would think the time limit would limit grinding, but it really limits crafting more especially if you spend your field time efficiently. The unlimited games have more post-game content that requires well-crafted equipment and items.

c4e4b1  No.16115504

>fried peoples cpus

What is with this series, is it cursed? There was a DC Atelier game that initially shipped with some viral infected screensaver. https://archive.fo/eOk7l

0c5a3b  No.16115732

I've never heard this opinion before. The games without time-limits are considerably easier and most don't even have a post-game. I think you're talking out of your ass.

d90635  No.16115758

I haven't played many of the limited ones yet, so that's where "my limited experience" comes from. The Mysterous series however all three games have post-game shit that require good item builds.

ebbeee  No.16115760

What are you talking about? Time management is part of the challenge of the time limit games. The games that lack time limits are stupid easy and they're the most lacking in content. Sophie was broken from not limiting you, sometimes I would get stuck because events required to open new areas and move the story along would "build up" and I would have to go in and out of several areas over and over again to catch them up. Firis was so bad I didn't even realize I was already doing "post game" because the game itself was arguably pointless.

e0cce8  No.16125217

There was also a NISA character and a Red character, but they're gone too.

3a9dc9  No.16125226

Red did better. Gust and Nisa show up only in the first 2 games while Red manages to be in Re;birth 2 as a support, and DLC in Re;birth 3. Sage because not totally on-topic but those infographics really need to be superceded.

080493  No.16125281

Yes rorona plus, play the arland plus trilogy on vita if you can, it's almost like these games were tailor made for it.

If you don't have a vita there's also the arland DX rerelease for PC, it contains the three games and all their DLC in a single package, no extra content over the vita versions though, iirc it also got a switch port in case you have one of those.
