The final Super Famicom/SNES game released, proceeding the GameCube's announcement by mere months, and the hardest Fire Emblem game is now in English!
What group did the translation and what did they fuck up.
A group formed just for this translation. Nothing as far as I know, though there are likely some name translations are retarded because they're keeping consistency with the official translations of Heroes and Awakening and kept stupid things NoA did first.
95 percent done. Now all that's left is some superficial stuff.
Oh and for something amusing and moderately useful, remove Marty's items before the end of chapter 3. Thracia's enemy AI can actually use shops, but it generally doesn't, and this will trigger it.
Did that cunt finish the fe6 mod yet or is he still dicking around
Never mind I just checked, still in progress.
His name is Onmi. He’s been working on a super extensive mod for fe6 called maiden of darkness. It’s still fe6, but it’s been completely overhauled. Look it up, it’s cool.
I thought all the old FE games were already translated. This is the only one I never even attempted to play, so I just assumed.
Is it actually worth it? Saying it’s the “hardest” doesn’t really mean anything, are the maps actually interesting? Interesting gameplay elements?
I liked FE1 and 3, but disliked 2 and 4. 6 is my all time favorite, and in general I like the gba games, so if it’s anything like them that would be nice.
FE5's translation was very rough and unfinished.
Maps are absolutely more interesting than 2 and 4, which are the lowest points in map design before 13/14.
Its got the most mechanical oddity; its got strangeness everywhere.
Judging by your choices being 2 and 4; thracia will probably good for you, as the flaws with those games was fucked maps.
Thracia has a lot of interesting map choices.
It is however a game that likes to attempt to kick you in the balls though.
And it really is a madmans game; with movement growth, movement stars and the early broken as fuck dancers and insane staffs.
Early manster chapters are pretty interesting in that it has a "use what you got" theme going on with it. Later escape chapters get pretty fucking crazy with enemies swarming you everywhere, it's definitely one of the better FE games.
It was also the last game the series creator worked on and released before leaving Nintendo. I don't like the current dev that's put in charge of the series.
I just played through level 1, it seems quite good in my estimation. The capture idea is pretty neat; a nice risk/reward idea. The starting units are interesting as well: Marty is quite the polarizing tank.
New group formed for this one. They have PDFs showing the changes for each chapter. Here's some examples.
Not only that, he removed an entire hint from the game.
Meh, I appreciate succinct dialogue over drawn out fluff. It’s not as if FE story has ever been anything special anyway, you play it for the gameplay.
>you play it for the
you don't know me, go shill your shit somewhere else, faggot.
tippity top shill
>It’s okay to butcher properties as long as the person doing it is whyte.
Are we being raided? There are many people today who seem to be trying way to hard to sound like /pol/.
>changing a character's name because it just so happens there's a company in another country with that same name
Full retarded. I've never heard of this company before but it sounds vaguely familiar.
>Are we being raided?
yeah, guess so. I had those goons in another thread too. It must be a boring week if they don't know what to do. Or the shekels from clintons are cut off?
>anyone I don't like is /pol/
>simple story that gives a hint on item creation is "falsely impressive bullshit that pushes obscurity for obscurity's sake alone"
You know though, there's something even more pretentious than what you're describing. "Localizing" a work instead of actually translating it because you personally think what you wrote sounds better.
Could you please point us in the direction of what particular "kike" wrote the original japanese dialogue to begin with for future reference?
Capped some of the deleted posts.
Never trust a normalfag to do translation right.
To be honest the new script is tldr starbucks tier long and drawn out shit compared to the original, I don't know what the fuck they were thinking.
Why are so many fan translations these days cucked up localisations, for what reason do you waste years of your life producing trash? Not only is it trash but its fanfiction trash.
>Why are so many fan translations these days cucked up localisations, for what reason do you waste years of your life producing trash? Not only is it trash but its fanfiction trash.
Why don't any anons here learn Japanese and do the translations themselves?
I did just that, anon. The problem was after I learned enough Japanese to do whatever I want without having to worry about shitty translators imposing their will on other people's shit or whether something was ever going to get translated at all, I realized that I would be spending significant amounts of time translating things only to produce something inherently inferior to the original, even if I did a great job translating it, and that I could instead spend that time playing untranslated video games. Learning Japanese was the largest hit to my motivation to become a translator.
Whatever you could have translated, it would have been better than the pozzed shit everyone has to deal with.
We need more people like you out there translating where all these Lefty and pozzed faggots are flooding the scene with their "fan localization."
Because game translation takes more work than just converting Japanese text to English, especially in older games. For instance, English text usually takes more characters to say the same thing in Japanese, meaning you can run into an issue where English text takes too much storage space compared to the original script. Then you have to figure out what to do to make your English script fit into the game. It takes both language skills and technical skills to translate games.
Jesus shit, the translator used the goddamn Gyakuten Saiban localisation as a reference point on how to translate.
I know, that's why there needs to be an effort and team or just let fags like those translators set a "standard" which will only attract more ironic weeb hipsters.
This is where these translators communicate.
2nd pic has them whining about "victim shaming" in the older translation. ciro team is cuck shit.
>meh, i dont want accuracy i want people to just delete entire characters for no raisin
Using existing over localisation as justification for further over localisation…. im impressed…?
"“Very well, then we shall meet again. Good luck!” to "Gods willing, we'll all meet again. Fortune be with you!" this kind of thing seems to crop up a lot in over localisations i find.
Much reference to god that is not there in the original giving an implication of religion or religious belief that just isn't there. The Kiseki localisations suffer really badly from it so much praise Aidos this thank Aidos that you would think the whole world super religious when in fact very few people in the original script reference the goddess by name or even at all.
>they're keeping consistency with the official translations of Heroes and Awakening and kept stupid things NoA did first.
I guess I should keep doing my moonrunes repeats.
Those quads though
The hardest part is not learning moonrunes, but to work into translating nip videogames for others.
Generally, the kind of people who are autistic enough to translate an entire game for free are the kind of people who absolutely should not do so. This goes doubly so for fire emblem, because the only people who are still meaningfully dedicated to the series either loved fates/awakening or diehard, nostalgia driven weebs. Both groups have garbage taste and neither should be trusted.
This is why a lot of niche translation groups, particularly good ones, do primarily or exclusive menu translations; translating the full story for a non-literate audience is an absurd amount of work, and even modestly japanese-literate individuals can use "vnhooking" tools to translate unfamiliar terms on-the-go.
The big fuck around especially with older games is the hacking rather than the translation. Your often stuck with text space limitations that require some insane work to get around as well as the nightmares that come from having to reprogram menus and shit as well.
Does not work with moth emulators otherwise we'd have written up guides about this.
>The anons who learn Japanese don't want to deal with the hassle of having to translate because they could just enjoy the game for themselves rather than do something for others for free
>The anons who program don't want to deal with the hassle of wrestling with the ancient code of old-games and having to learn language arts to fit with character limits
>Pozzed faggots and ironic weebs consequently fill the translation circles because they're the only ones with both the interest and the autism to do so
Goddammit. It's a self-feeding cycle.
These anons probably don't have the right to complain or probably don't care since they allowed the pozz to take over translation circles as the anons are just happily playing the games in Japanese.
>game has character limit which makes translation difficult
>program an extension on this limit, because you're gonna need it anyway
>original japanese line from random character is short and to the point, can fit in the boxes even without the extra space
<go out of your way and program extra boxes entirely just to write fanfiction jokes
<can't even make something funny, it's literally worse than Working Designs and their weed and fart shit
There are no words
why not just set up an actual translation group and approach the devs yourselves?
I'm sure that enough autism and dedication could melt the heart of any old japanese man.
He does such beautiful stuff. Shame most of it is loli rape. There will never be another Carmen Sandiego video game. She will never be portrayed as an Iberian girl in her late teens who learned to steal on the streets, graduating into high society through ever more ambitious heists. She will never be playable. It will never be a cross between Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider, that also teaches you about the world and history along the way. There will NEVER be another Carmen Sandiego game.
>this organization that literally no one has ever heard of has an office near me
>therefore everyone has heard of it
>so since I am too stupid to comprehend context clues, I will change a character’s name
This subhuman wouldn’t even pass the fucking Sally-Anne test, much less the mirror test. He’s so fucking inhuman that he doesn’t comprehend that bodies of knowledge exist that are separate and distinct form his own.
Yeah, and it's not even half decent outside of muh guro.
I'd hit that taco so hard it'll plow right through trump's big beautiful wall.
Wait a minute. What the fuck is this shit. Not only did they make a mobile app recently, they’re making a goddamn kikeflix show.
SHE’S A FUCKING ROBIN HOOD. STEAL FROM RICH GIVE TO POOR. RETCON AND RUIN THE ENTIRE FUCKING CHARACTER. Kill everyone.
Is this from the NEXSHIT show?
No, the drawing’s better than anything I’m seeing of that bastardization.
is that based on the new (((netflix))) show? i'd rather Carmen Sandiego stay who she was. and this girl be a new character inspired by Carmen's legacy. that would be cool (I hate what they did to Zach & Ivy)
Well shit. I hope there's at least some good douj-oh who the fuck am I kidding.
What tools did they use to make it? Why not just take those and fix up this mess?
Serenes Forest is like the gayest place in the FE fandom. Outperforming both FEUniverse and the subreddit. Well FEU isn’t actually that bad by most standards, stupid web design.
>This goes doubly so for fire emblem, because the only people who are still meaningfully dedicated to the series either loved fates/awakening or diehard, nostalgia driven weebs. Both groups have garbage taste and neither should be trusted.
Don’t forget the post ironic weebs.
I should have seen it coming, but you have no idea how stunned I was when I saw all the “vets” creaming their jeans over Heroes. In my naivety I thought they would have seen it for the casino machine that it was, but a good portion just went “On God my Waifu is in hd 😩😫.” That’s how things usually go down, but when I first saw it it was crushing.
>even fan translations are ruined these days
Serves you fags right for relying on other people to spoonfeed you translations rather than learn Japanese.
Finally, some OC I made is now incredibly relevant.
But isn't Carmen Sandiego the villain and we're supposed to find her by knowing geography?
She's a BRAVE strong WOMEN (who is now black) who is SMASHING FASCISM!
Take THAT drornald blormpf!
Been a few months now since I saw such a waste of time and energy, the previous being that Phantasy Star IV "good game but needs more Working Designs" retranslation.
>Phantasy Star IV "good game but needs more Working Designs" retranslation
Kill whoever said that.
Because WD chodesucking fanboys wish more of the industry would cater to their preferred writing style. At least this was just a fan patch though and not the only English script Phantasy Star IV has (which can't be said of games actually published by WD/GW). Also love how one of the reviews is pretty much "mission accomplished; don't actually use this."
And while I'm at it, I find it another waste of time some faggots decided that Dragon Quest NES needed to get with the times, and ported the English iPort script to it so it would meet the modern localization "standards" that western fans expect of the series from Square-Enix. That said, DQ1 NES does also have an already existing patch that both removed the censorship and rendered the script in plain, contemporary English. Still doesn't keep the "update" from being a waste to anyone but the whole "the lel so fahhny accents add charm!" crowd.
>feels like a working designs translation
Based butane bob.
Hopefully butane bob will burn everything down.
I get the feeling there's a reason even the fuckers in charge of RHDN have it filed as a romhack and not a translation patch.
I love all the Godzillaposting that's been going on. Shin Godzilla in particular deserves more attention. The new one that just came out surpassed my expectations. It was bad plotwise, but then again most of them are with some exceptions. And besides from being absolutely gorgeous, the writers clearly love the franchise.
'zilla is cool.
This. Let the fan translation scene get as pozzed as it wants.
It's no consequence for those of us that know Japanese.
Shin was pretty good. I hope we get another Anno Godzilla. I haven't seen it yet, but from the trailers the new one at least seemed to understand the series better than the previous two.
Saw the patch yesterday, god damn am I happy I didn't fall for it yet. I was planning to read the dialogue, but there is just so much to read. Thanks for the examples.
I tried playing FE6 and 7 before, and I hated how enemies could spawn out of thin air, and how enemies could crit and 1 shot your characters, even tanky characers and/or characters that won the weapon triangle match-up. Is this a thing in this game to? Will I need to restart entire stages because some random enemy with 1% crit kills my main character? Yes, I'm still bitter as fuck, even though I played those games years ago.
>Safy as Safiya
Just cause some obscure foster care organization most burgers never heard of exists, this fag changes the name?
>All these shitty eat your burger tier decisions
I am going to bet this is a tumblr fag and they have a discord.
Who gives a fuck?
Just learn Japanese and play the Japanese version.
>relying on translators
You retards know that nips are working with the localization bureaus to self censor their games, right? Even that guy from Xseed that was so anti-censor gladly said that he wanted to help nips self censor so that he wouldn't have to censor their games, and he was one of the least tainted people in the localization industry. Learning Japanese won't save you, and your disregard for the horrible state of localization does nothing but worsen the situation. If no one cares, these fuckups will do whatever they want with no backlash, and of course they will use that as an excuse to make Japan self censor more.
You pretend you're above all this, but you're the dumbest fucks around.
Honestly, I agree. Learning Japanese isn't some miracle fix that means you'll never encounter a censored game again in your life; Soyny proved that and it's only going to get worse as we near the Olympic and those with (((corruptive interests))) start to flock harder to Japan. Those "I HAVE A BACKLOG SO I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE FUTURE" faggots are also at fault, for willingly allowing shit to get worse and worse because by sticking their heads in the nostalgia ground.
Just one thing though:
Call it translation and nothing more. Pozzfags like to use "localizing to American audiences" as an excuse for dramatic changes.
I dunno. A good localization can make meanings make a lot more sense. But I feel it requires someone who's a wholesome pure human being who actually wants the meaning and reasoning of the OG work to transfer as accurately as possible. And knows it takes more than a flat direct translation to work in any meaningful way.
I feel like the only way we'll get anything of worth is if the creator actively wants an English audience and wants more out of the localizing team and wont tolerate censorship and all that gay shit. The few times I've seen "Localization" being somewhat not shit is Ace Attorney series prior to the 3ds American sequels.
>it's this fag again who pretends that avoiding localization is somehow propping up localization
If everyone learned Japanese and got their games directly from the source then localization would lose its power and die, retard.
>mfw the reason for every single fucking change is
<"Well, as a burger…"
>Those "I HAVE A BACKLOG SO I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE FUTURE" faggots are also at fault
It's easy to say that, but harder to actually get off your lazy ass and do something about it.
No it wouldn't, as we've seen from Soyny it is not reality that matters, but their perception of it. Even if they are bleeding millions a year, if they misidentify the cause, nothing will get better.
If Sony collapses, the problem solves itself.
>Those "I HAVE A BACKLOG SO I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE FUTURE" faggots are also at fault, for willingly allowing shit to get worse and worse
You sound a little bit upset, and it feels like you're lashing out at people who aren't part of the problem at all.
I have a backlog so I don't care what happens to the industry. This means that I want the industry to fail, to collapse, to be destroyed. I am not contributing to the problem. Just ask yourself this: "Have I purchased, in any capacity, new or used, any of the games with poor localizations that I am complaining about?"
I'll tell you what my answer is. It's a resounding "No." I haven't bought them, I won't buy them. They get no money from me, no success, no financial support.
So what's your answer, assuming you even have the testicular fortitude to actually give a genuine and honest answer?
These fags just want "better" localizations, as if that's possible. The only way to save Japanese games is to kill localization entirely and cut Japan off from the SJW cancer coming from the west.
>If Sony collapses, the problem solves itself.
Imagine being this retarded to believe that killing a symptom will solve the root of the issue
>You sound a little bit upset, and it feels like you're lashing out at people who aren't part of the problem at all.
I just get kind of pissed off at this idea that things will magically sort themselves out just by not buying anything. Because it doesn't work like that; people like you and I alone not buying these games doesn't even BEGIN to outweigh hordes of Normalfags and Ironic Weebs throwing their money at them and it doesn't matter whose money it is in the end. People like RetardEra are taken seriously and get games censored or pozzed because they're loud enough and somehow worm their ways into company branches, and it just…when showing concern about this is met with "Dude just learn a whole language" and then suddenly the Japanese are censoring themselves because of those tactics and the next response is "Backlog bro". It grinds my fucking gears.
I don't want to just burn everything to the ground like some edgy anarchist. I want good games for both past, present, and future rather than digging in a hole of past glories with the naïve view that eventually the system will collapse on itself without me lifting a finger. Even the cancers recognize you have to be the change you want to see in the world.
And for the record, no, I haven't bought any. Not since being burned by Awakening's casualness and hearing about the garbage that was Fates, which only led me further down the rabbit hole and learning about other butchered translations in other games.
Man, that came off as more rambly and autistic than I thought. I shouldn't angerpost too often.
>I HAVE A BACKLOG AND I DON'T GIVE A FUCK IF THE INDUSTRY CRASHES
>I HAVE PLENTY OF MONEY AND UNIRONICALLY AM A BRAND LOYALIST AND LOVE THE DIVERSE THRIVING CHANGE OF VIDEO GAMES. STOP LIVING IN THE PAST!
Which of these two stubborn cunts are truly at fault? My last buyfag purchase was DS2 with DLC and that is probably the last time I am going to buy vidya again. Whereas the taste plebs will buy anything just because they have some extra cash and get a dopamine hit from it. The base consumerist mentality. Besides, it was obvious from the start that Japan was eventually going to cuck out to (((globalist interests))) eventually.
I've seen some decent fan translations (Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together SNES with an IPS slapped on it was as direct as possible from JAP to ENG), but ones that are obvious and hyped up are going to have civcuck aids injected into them.
> I want good games for both past, present, and future rather than digging in a hole of past glories with the naïve view that eventually the system will collapse on itself without me lifting a finger.
The idea that the industry will collapse or be forced to change due to a lack of sales from not buying games and encouraging others to do the same is far more realistic than "I just want all of the good games ever to somehow appear without any financial incentive!"
I am the change I want to see in the world. I want to see these companies and their employees starving on the streets, therefore I give them nothing, encourage others to give them nothing, and insult and deride anyone who does.
>I give them nothing, encourage others to give them nothing, and insult and deride anyone who does
I guess the core of it is, I just want there more someone can do to fight this than just "wallet vote" and raise awareness like some passive protest group. It's why I've been arguing against just sitting there and allowing the pozz overtake translation circles and continue to cede ground to cancer.
Who cares. Nu/v/ doesn't like fire emblem.
>I just want there more someone can do to fight this than just "wallet vote" and raise awareness like some passive protest group.
I do too, but you're outnumbered and outfinanced. Your $5 will never be able to stand up to the normalfag's collective $5,000. Major developers and publishers will never be stupid enough to cater to such a small audience. You will never get anything new, but stay in denial of this fact if you like.
Ciro's translation isn't a translation. He literally made all that shit up. FireLizard's is fairly close, but even that takes some liberties. "Roputo's dark sword" being translated as "Blade of Darkness", and shit like that.
Even when it comes to fan translation anyone who is honestly interested in doing the original work justice is competing with faggots who pump out garbage at light speed. Most of the people who need these translations don't care as long as what they get resembles coherent English. All you have to keep you going is personal pride and standards, so a lot of people who do care about what they're translating run out of motivation really fast.
Look at the bright side folks. Now the game has an english base to work from, anyone with basic romhacking skills can fix things.
Oh fuck off Niggerpill, I don't want to hear it.
The Romans learned Greek long after the Greeks were irrelevant. The Germans learned Latin long after Rome fell. We will learn Japanese. Not because we converse with Japanese people, but because we must become scholars of Japanese writings and preserve them for the future.
You should try switching up your formatting if you're going to samefag.
Honestly you fags complaining should learn Japanese to play the game yourselves instead of relying on translation nonsense like a casual faggot. Translations shouldn't exist and this pozzed translation is a non-issue.
It's a bot. The glownigger who programmed it should be ashamed since it sometimes contradicts itself. check reply 12423648 in https://archive.is/qGpMw.
Her design isn't thicc enough. Also it portrays a brown woman as a thief. Very problematic in current year. They should have remade Carmen Sandiego as a white man that way he could portray a villain without diminishing minorities and reinforce the idea that white men are the REAL problem.
>steals from rich white (probably conservative) males
pick only one you shitlord
The real question should be; why the hell a game released in 1999-2000, published by Nintendo wasn't also on the N64? There's literally no technical reason what so ever it couldn't.
Because who the fuck would buy a 2d N64 game.
Also the N64 and SNES weren't very compatible; you may as well have made a totally new game instead is the other reason realistically.
Actually on that note; why not talk about the game that would eventually has its guts spread across the next few games; otherwise known as the prototype binding blade "maiden of darkness".
>karel, idunn and roy are the only remnants from this version of the game, with the plot of it being totally rewritten for the GBA versionmaiden of darkness does match the final boss though
>karel was the only character with no rewrites
>proto roy was called Ike
>characters from this game were also used in sacred stonesspecifically ephiram; which might imply more usage of other characters from this in other games
>was to be a return to Archanea
>Also used as the basis for tear ring sagawhich originally was in Archanea during its "emblem saga" days
I swear i remember Kaga saying he'd also remake Thracia for the N64 in something? Obviously Kaga left way before anything like that could happen.
holy fuck this isn't a translation if they're making shit up instead of just leaving it at translation, how do these people not have any self awareness
>this isn't a translation if they're making shit up instead of just leaving it at translation
It's called "localization".
localization is one shitty thing but they're pulling entire gag conversations out of their asses
That is often how localization works. They are often written by failed writers who use games as a springboard for their own writing.
but why would a group of unpaid "fans" do that? there's not even a monetary incentive, and anybody who tries the game with the patch without knowing it's altered because the translators are power-drunk will be getting an irrevocably tainted first impression
Retranslate Thracia, if you're so great.
>either produce your own patch or don't criticise the existing one
I don't get this argument, you don't have to make your own patch to be able to call out the bullshit with this one. It is obviously bullshit all the evidence is directly presented.
But whining about the current patch doesn't do anything other than to voice discontent.
It lets people know its bad and what's wrong with it. If you say nothing people will just lap it up without thinking about it. There is also another team that has been working on an FE5 patch, if enough noise is made about the over localisation on this hopefully the other team wont give up their efforts.
Neither does retranslating games, since there is no such thing as a good translation.
Just laugh at the inferior fags that don't understand Japanese.
Is the Japanese learning thread useful?
That's why it's cancer and needs to be wiped out forever.
They're right you know. Or I'm learning Japanese incorrectly.
how did you infer that, anon?
Random crit bullshittery is a staple of the series, and the game also unfortunately has reinforcements that act as soon as they spawn.
This bullshit is seen as early as level 4, in which you have to deal with infinite spawning reinforcements, that have random spawns, and a number of them have javelins to add insult to injury. It almost put me off from playing more, but the subsequent levels have been good so far.
If you really want to avoid bullshit, you can always use save states, unless you have severe autism and are out to prove something.
I read as practice and while I believe I somewhat get the gist of most of the textboxes (with a fuckton of new words to look up) I found it hard to mentally translate it into something natural. I envy those on the sadpanda who make it look easy.
why not try using it everyday? even if you only talk to yourself it helps you understand how to work around the words and sentences. As much as I hate to give the wapanese any credit, it's a pretty effective way of learning any language. it's how I learned eigo after all
Now the 'localiser' is trying to push his bullshit names and changes as word of god.
Just kill every translator and let Japanese games exist unmolested.
This nigger needs to die
I hope this fag goes completely ignored , not even worth a reply
fan translations have always been mostly shitty
Those are official translations.
>I am Error.
That's not even engrish, Error is his name.
Why are Monkey Island and Mortal Kombat there? Those have nothing to do with translations since they are originally English.
>those are official
Maybe its a litmus test?
These are all official translations tho…?
So you're just retarded then? Why bring up official translations when talking about fan translations, and why use a shitty image that not only has original English dialogue, but instances of correct translation and proper English?
Guess I'll resume not playing Thracia until there's a real translation, then.
Or you could just not be a nigger and learn Japanese.
It's almost like I posted a funny unrelated reaction image and thought nothing of it because I'm not a fucking autistic retard.
I need to know the origin of these two pictures
Police Sketches of the Zodiac Killer, jackass.
>At least two of the games featured were english to begin with, not to mention they use english correctly
I got banned on Serenesforest for "flamebaiting" because I asked why the translators made the changes they did, and only got insults as answers I responded with my opinion on localization in general which got me banned. I never really use the site for anything anyway, but it's a pity that they are so keen to ban critical thinking.
I guess I should expect such things from people who routinely defend the Fates localizations, though.
Forum culture is so alien to me. The idea that calling each other faggots or retards is to be avoided or taken seriously is ridiculous. Discussion is no fun if it's sanitized.
Friendly reminder that learning the language is much better than waiting for shitty translations for the rest of your life.
>leave a user review
This, en masse.
>I was only pretending to be retarded
