Picked it up over the holidays but I'm not starting until I've finished replaying the original Xenoblade

Got it for christmas. After first going back to get some more completion done on HW, I finally properly started this game yesterday.

I just finished chapter 3, and am now trying to do non-mq stuff. Which is where my first question comes in. Halp halp, how do I into sidequests? Some of them as early as now seem to lead to that other zone west of the green zone, I had at least two that involved getting through lvl 29+ with no way of sneaking around them, and a lot of others are collect quests that require finding shit of which I have no idea where to look without using the internet. I honestly prefer playing games without (regularly) resorting to looking up stuff on the internet, because it sorta feels like cheating each time I do it.

In XC there was at least some level of narrowing down here and there. The npcs in or near/right after area X asked for items that were from area X but here everything seems mixed around. Don't get me wrong, I love the sense of adventure and danger that comes with the levels of monsters being mixed through and through like that,

Is there some pattern in the missions from the console, that would help me pick the right ones? Do the optional missions de-spawn or can I leave them in the console as long as I like? Any tips help.

The other question is: Is my sneaking suspicion correct that this is in fact not a sequel to XC but rather a prequel? Is it gonna turn out that the blue planet in the solar system with all the familiar planets we get to see in XC is actually not earth but Mirra or some other planet way after the game?

There's stuff to do on all of the continents as early as level 10, it can be kind of a pain to get there but it's worth exploring if only to place as many data probes as possible.

You should get used to stealthing past high-level enemies though, there's a sidequest later on at about level 25-30 that requires you to infiltrate a base full of level 50-ish enemies.

Also XCX is, to my mind, quite clearly a distant sequel to XC. Think about it, Nopon native to Mira, rock outcroppings that look like stuff from Bionis, giant metal ruins that look like stuff from Mechonis. Seems clear to me that Mira is the planet Shulk makes at the end of XC, but XCX takes place millenia later.

There is another (longer) way around but that nav ball is a fucking dick. But it is possible to go through it.

The longer way is finding that huge ass lake with the guardian in the middle, jumping in and snaking your way up that one trunk, then continuing the nav ball's directions from there.

I might want to note that it was the producer who wanted more vocals all over the place. Sawano preferred a sort of epic orchestrated soundtrack for the game.

The entire OST is literally dragged down by three songs, Black Tar, the NLA theme, and Don't Worry. The last song is why I've indefinitely held off on buying X in the first place, and the shitty localization practices certainly didn't help.

There are some weird choices in the use of the OST, too. MONOX feels too disjointed to be a title theme, and THEMEX should take its place. Melancholia captures the essence of taking action perfectly, and shouldn't be confined to just one part of the game. And so on and so forth.

Story wise no. the game takes place so far into the future of the last game it doesn't even matter.

Gameplay wise, the game expects you to have played Xenoblade beforehand and most of the mechanics will come easier to you if you do.

You should play it anyways just because it's such a great and amazing game.

If I were to suggest a starting point I'd say go and play the original PS release of Xenogears on an emulator. It doesn't emulate PERFECTLY but it emulates well enough that it shouldn't matter.

After that play the DS remake of Xenosaga 1&2 before playing 3 which is on PS2, AND THEN you can move on xenoblade and xenoblade X.

By the time you finish all that XCX should have an undub or a fan translation.

I'm actually talking about a base in the southern part of the desert zone, just a little southeast of the level 20 alien base there.

The high level alien base in the south part of the jungle zone is entirely unnecessary to get to the "mainland area" of the zone, I didn't even know it was there until I explored most of the rest of the zone (save for the northwesternmost part, which you need flying for).

Oh, and another tip in case anyone doesn't already know, the oceans around each continent have collectopedia items for their respective zone floating on the water and no enemies to bother you except on a few small islands here and there.

Check the electronic manual, unless it's not there.

From what I can gather about overdrive since I did not read the manual in full yet, it speeds up the cooldowns of your arts and let's you do a tier 3 on them. The overdrive number goes up the more arts you hit with, so multi-hit arts are extremely useful during overdrive. Also, I think the damage output increases once the number hits 10, 20, etc.

Sitting right around the end of chapter 9 right now, the furry guys brought out their mechs so I need to kill those. They're being a pain for some reason; probably because I don't have resistances that'll take care of the damage they deal. I could probably just use the 1 million I have on hand to get 2 level 30 dolls/skells up to a decent level and make the fight pretty easy, but that seems like the cheap way out.

The dolls/skells in general just rub me the wrong way, which is a shame because I love their design. I just end up having a natural aversion to force multipliers, and I paradoxically feel even more fragile than before because having a doll/skell die on you has actual consequences as opposed to dying on the ground where you just respawn somewhere. Basically, I just use mine as personal transport for going faster and jumping higher so I can get places I can't normally get to otherwise.

I'll probably end up toying around with them when I finish the story and inevitably hit level cap. It just seems like bringing them to a fight where you could just take care of the enemies by being a higher level or having gear or skills that fits the situation you're in feels like a waste.

I just started the Wii Xenoblade and it is pretty fun but…I fuked up….pretty embarrassing, I didn't even notice the the whole skill link with the affinity coins until I got to the Frontier Village so many wasted coins, I was like 35ish. There's one outfit that's censored on all characters though, and that's the six-stars ritual wear which was meant to be a fundoshi on both males and females.

The upper half of the outfit is still made from cloth wrapped around their bodies, but the lower half has been replaced with white boxer shorts and socks - not even fitting the art style of the upper half, and then they even forgot to change the thumbnail, so it's still a fundoshi.

Worst part is, you have to craft it, and when crafting you can't see a preview; all you get for reference is the thumbnail.

And this shit is expensive to make too.

From what I've seen, arm weapons don't seem to drop, and you'll need to buy them, but they're kind of just specific use anyway.

The beam shields give element resistance

The minigun taunts

The needle gun raises GP

You'll be able to afford a team of lv30s soon enough.

Lv50s are a bitch to save up for until post-game though.

I wanted a lv50 Mastema to fight the final boss, which is 3.5m+.

Post-game, money starts flowing easy though.

That lv20 can probably help you bring down at least a lv30, and lv30s can bring down up to around lv45-50s.

There are certain fights where you frankly need them like the second half of the Ga Jiarg fight and the entirety of Zhu Pharg.

Honestly the giant robots in this game are fun as hell to use, like so fun I forget to manage my ground gear and level up my arts/skills and just blow my money on mechs.
