The end of this exact video talks about NFS World's shutdown.

Regarding his points about server closure, I'd raise another option: developers release the full protocol specification for their games. No need to release code that might be licensed, no need to work around the strict publisher/developer relationships and it would only cost the salary of the intern paid to write the document.

At least if I were to make an online game that's how I would do it. I believe that all sorts of DRM are not a huge issue as long as the game can still live when it goes down.

481dab No.8609667

Something just went through my mind as I was trying to do something with the Raptor in MW2012. What do you think goes in the heads of a car company's higher ups when they sign a license contract?

In MW2012's case:

Did Ford really think their flagship offroader would be depicted as a slow and heavy piece of garbage with literally no redeeming qualities?

Did Audi really think we were going to fall in love with the A3 if we encounter in traffic enough times? Did they not even consider the fact that hitting another A3 that turned without using its turn signal would be a fucking shit message?

Oh yeah and after 3 years I finally managed to figure out what's wrong with MW2012's handling: it takes 2-3 seconds to go full lock left->right. Even with a controller pad. So yeah, you get this awfully sluggish high speed gameplay and the feeling that no matter what you do the car is rigged to hit whatever's in front. It's literally impossible to avoid a car on the highway if you haven't planned its moves 10 seconds ahead. Complete bullshit.

1. Fuck you the Raptors great for not giving a shit and just breaking shit.

And 2. They don't care how the car's portrayed so long as it's in. It's marketing to them and nothing more, that's why it's almost always the latest and greatest that make it's way into games while classics often get left out. The only company that cares about how their vehicles are portrayed are Honda and it's only because they got sick of always being associated with street racing and ricing.

Ford doesn't care the Raptor is slow compared to everything, it's in the game and that is what's important. There's no such thing as bad publicity and all that.

Though I have wondered how licensing goes about. Does a dev approach a manufacture with a list of cars and a bag of money and see how many they can get or do manufactures have a set price for the cars they want to see marketed.

And if it's by brand what stops a dev from including every gen of say FIrebird?

I mean there's always gonna be time constants or budget constants that force a dev to pick and choose but what controls that choice?

fdb000 No.8614702

I think it depends. Indie devs and small game companies probably have to barter a lot for permission to use a companies cars, while companies like turn 10 or polyphony probably just show up, slap down a list and a check, and walk out with a bundle of keys and a terabyte of CAD files.

481dab No.8615943

>>8613644

Would make sense. Still, I hate those fucking A3 drivers.

Yes I believe developers approach companies with a car list and pay for the cars. I think some manufacturers license by brand, like GM. But it all comes down to how much money you can throw, and I guess most games are compromised by that. In TDU2 for example, one of the biggest omissions from TDU are Lamborghinis, and the rumor was that this was only because they couldn't afford the license.

As for the car choices, I'd say popularity in the target demographic. NFS 2015 panders to the "teenager into cars that read everything from the internet" and you see that in how many meme cars are in the list.

>>8614702

I guess having a long established franchise helps but it's mostly about financial backing. And I wouldn't be surprised if Sony and Microsoft threw huge amounts of money to these devs to help with the licensing.

I actually don't think a lot of money gets thrown around with the big players because at a point the advertising value of having your car in a game starts to usurup licensing costs, at least with the bigger companies. For instance, I can imagine a scenario where getting opportunity to have a Volkswagen as one of the starter cars may pay for the entirety of the Lamborghini brand. Such deals probably are a big factor with these devs as car companies compete against each other for limited amount of big car slots in the game.

On an unrelated topic for the three people here who actually play automation, the open beta is out.

Honestly TXR games have kinda weak soundtracks Though NO. ONE. CAN. RUN. FASTER. THEN. ME. is great though it only pops up in cinematic. Honestly all the good music seems to pop up in cinematic

On the flip side NFS Most wanted '12 has a great soundtrack.

An excessive amount of grease, dust, pubes, hairs, crumbs, potential living organisms, ashes (if it was a smoker), old skin bits and probably more I can't list there. Those get really, really dirty over the years, especially the inside of the wheel unit (because of the grease on the parts) and the pedals.

Just make sure the wheel is alright, if it can power up fine it's probably going to work alright. One of the recurring issues with those wheels are that the rotary encoders will go bad and fuck everything, but when it happens the wheel won't even do the full lock calibration upon being plugged in.

You may also want to take a look at the pedals, make sure their pots are still in working order and not under a ton of gunk. You can also check if the springs are still good, as an issue I had with my G27's brake pedal was that it never returned to 0 and caused continuous braking in some games (fixed it with a rubber O ring), if you're not in the mood for disassembling shit better watch out for that.

If you do get the wheel and do a routine disassembly, it would be a good idea to re-grease the pedals and the FFB bit

>>8638832

Probably because Itagaki spent nearly all of the time on Jet Ski Mode, wanted it to "Stand with PGR and Forza" as the best on the console and even visited Turn 10 studios looking for advice on how to make the best racing game. It ended up half baked like the rest of the game was too much and both MS and Tecmo were pissed it was being constantly delayed. It shipped but it was not very good.

Not that DOAX3 looks any better. Looks like it's just bumping up the fanservice and not actually making a better game.

It's not too surprising that people are mad about this, it removes one of the main masturr rase arguments against UWA. So they have to think a bit harder to find a new one.

Also overlays are doable in UWA, in a D3D12 game no less (https://twitter.com/NTAuthority/status/706972257009143808). So another argument down.

The Opel/Vauxhall thing has been running since GT2, like Acura/Honda (since GT1 for this one though). It made sense when the brands were separated, like how you would only get Acura in the US and Vauxhall in the UK.

It was only with GT4 that Polyphony started having both dealerships available at all times, in an attempt to keep increasing the amount of cars available because it has always been GT's strongest selling point. Variety doesn't matter. Just look at GT6:

>26 Lancers

>18 Silvias

>43 Skylines

>12 3000GTs

>27 Imprezas

And then some brands, like Opel/Vauxhall, are still using the same list and the same models as GT4.

I still maintain GT2 had the best car list just because of its variety.

Logitech quality. I also own a G930 and it's a great headset when the driver doesn't force disable virtual surround, fucks with the equalizer or shuts it down during gameplay after 15 minutes because it thought no sound was being sent over it. And putting the computer to sleep can wreck the G27 driver, but it's old as shit.

At least you can use the new control panel, unlike G27 users. We are stuck with the old ass control panel that will insist on scanning your computers for games with a list stuck in 2007.

And the need for the custom driver comes from the enhanced features. For compatibility reasons, when the wheel turns on it is in Driving Force mode and requires a special command being sent to its control electronics to switch to DFP or G2X mode. This allows the wheel to work on PS2 games that support DF (GT3) and in semi enhanced mode for those that support DFP (900° rotation, GT4). At least it is like this for the G27, not sure if the G29/920 still has this compatibility. Just try to plug the wheel in a PS2, or completely wipe the Logitech driver and plug it back in, see it if goes full 900° or stays in 180° compatibility mode.

Not sure about that throttle/wheel thing though. Could be a fluke in the bindings for this particular game, could be a glitch in the wheel. Do you mean that, on Windows' joystick control panel, when you move the wheel or press the accelerator a single axis moves?

Well after playing the game, the lack of parts is somewhat fixed since ea added loads of them in the past 2 updates of the game. But the handling… god the handling is just so so bad, I tried it with a controller and I couldn't drive clean, but it's the only way to drift, then I tried it with a wheel and had quite some fun while also driving very nicely but drifting is absolutely impossible.

I'll make it short, the game is worth 15 bucks or 20 at most if you're fine with a shitty intrusive autodorifto mechanic that fucks you up everytime, if they would disable that and allow the car to slide at a bigger angle from normal loss of traction like in the older games it would be perfect and I would've been pleased to shell out 40€ for it. Everything else is fine with it really. it's actually a good port although I didn't try it with the keyboard and wouldn't advise to do so. Content updates will be free, no microtransactions nor dlc, EA actually listening to feedback, properly optimised (i5-4690k@4.3Ghz & GTX770 2gb | 45-50FPS Maxed and on medium + TAA and HDAO around 60-75+ fps) and wheel support is good.

At the end of the day I'd say, pirate it and see for yourself how you deal with the handling, if its fine for you buy it, really, buy it eventually even for cheap to support what seems to be a test from ea of, actually caring for the customers. Now if you want a similar game (tuning, cruising, racing, wheel support and fun) just fucking buy/pirate The Crew depending on if you plan to play online or not, it should be cheap as fuck right now anyway.

4626d4 No.8724552

>>8724247

I think it's even worse than the run or rivals, the game actively trys to take away control from you and do shit itself instead unless you set it up so that it never goes into drift mode and play with a wheel. It's still very playable if you get used to it but I dont get any feel for a car, they all mostly feel the same. in any case, its pretty nice to rice out car in it but holy fuck, don't buy it before trying. It's decent, was probably ruined more by the fact that it was pretty pay to win and grindy than downright bad. I haven't played the original MW in too many years, but I got the old NFS vibe from World, arcadey trash but not slidey bs like the modern NFS games that pretend to be burnout.

>>8724552

>they all mostly feel the same

That's usually something you have to deal with in arcade games. I'll try it, since I eventually got to enjoy MW 2012 as long as I didn't have to do close evades on the highway because lol steering smoothing. Like it takes 1.5 seconds to go from straight to full lock. That's where the awful weighty feeling comes from, if you try MW Realistic Plugin that allows raw input the cars are pretty much weightless in the arcade snippy snappy gameplay kind but the built in drift mechanic doesn't like it too much.

72f950 No.8742131

Probably by playing with the steering linearity to have something quite responsive and retain the drifting physics ala Paradise. I didn't play too much with it, by the time I found out it existed I was used to the default handling and crashing into shit all the time because every car feels like a brick.

72f950 No.8742440

>>8739524

And yeah, the cops are annoying. Not only because of their psychic targeting abilities, but also because if you're trying to get your pursuit to level 5 to grind the pro re-inflatable tires because you're kinda autistic and like completing shit, you have to lean back for the first 4 levels at least and allow the cops to stay near you, be careful to not wipe them all out accidentally and entering cooldown and at the same time evade the SUVs launched at 500 kph into your face.

The DLC nagging is manageable, apart from the cars visible in free roam and the few hilarious loading hints like "a bazillion new events and milestones, available if you buy this pack of overpriced shit" it's quite tame. And really, I would have bought the DLCs if they weren't so ridiculously overpriced.

ETS2 is probably the comfiest, it's not particularly fast, quite relaxing, and the feeling you get when stopped during a rainstorm, with the droplets hitting the bodywork and doing little sounds, the rain on the windshield and all of that makes me want to snuggle into a blanket.
