Hot Shots Golf you can pick up for about $12 now I think, brand new too. The only reason I haven't picked it up yet is sort of "just because."
Superbeat: XONIC is a pretty solid rhythm game. There's no bullshit or anything, it lets you just jump straight into the action as does DJ MAX Technika Tune. It has a solid 52 song soundtrack in the Vanilla game, and there are 3 DLC song bundles out now too. 3 songs in each bundle.

Operation abyss. I just started the second semester. I don't know if I even like the game all that much. It just reeks of weird bullshit design decisions. Like what's the point of paying for identifying when you can do it for free yourself with a chance of a short temporary debuff that's trivial to deal with, the whole chip item drop system takes way too long to deal with every time when all it does it add extra button presses since in 20 hours I've not failed one besides the ones I've failed on purpose to see what happens. When someone dies there's way too many menus you need to navigate to revive them when there's no reason that the ICU, status removal and rest couldn't be under one option. Some of the dungeons are really fucking annoying and the hardest thing about the game is finding where to go and most of the time the boss battles are easier than random battles which are not hard either and I've not been grinding for a second. Also I really don't like that you can't pick your target.
Other things I should look into playing more are Superbeat Xonic and Disgaea 4 which I last played in 2014. I should also start Danganronpa 2.

Reading your complaints about Operation Abyss make me feel glad I didn't fall for the shills trying to lie and tell me the game is good yet, and also makes me feel glad I cancelled my pre-order of Stranger from Sword City, which I'm sure would've been more of the same.
Boss fights less difficult than random battles? Just revolting.
Why do people around here feel the need to suck the shit out of the ass of every game on the vita, even the bad ones? Why do they need to lie when I ask for buying advice? "yeah bro the game is hella hard, Operation Abyss is just what you're looking for" fuck you no it's not. why can't you just tell me "yeah the game's not so good".
JRPG's are the kind of thing where you can't just watch a video to see if it's gonna be a good time or not. You have to play it to know. So for people to fuck me around about it just really sucks and I don't trust anyone's praise for anything around here anymore.

Even if the things I listed bother me a lot I still want to play more of the game for whatever reason. It's not that I feel obligated to finish it because I bought it since I have no problem dropping a game I don't care for. I really hope SfSC is not more of the same and from what I've seen it doesn't seem to be. I'll still buy it because I like DRPGs a lot and Vita is the absolute perfect place to play them.
The difficulty and battles are a really big bummer in OA. I constantly find myself wanting more from the battles. Every time I get into a boss fight and see the "Caution Save" memos on the ground I get excited. Then I apply buffs and shit and kill the boss by accident in a few turns and it's the biggest anti-climx ever. Demon Gaze had harder fights than this game so far.

Not everyone plays/experiences a game the same way like me. I find RPGs in general more on the difficult side. I suck ass at RPGs, i'm fucking terrible with them, almost always having to default to easy just to finish the game. But I like the stories and characters they have, usually. and the only thing I recall being ever said about Operation Abyss is that it was *supposed* to be one of the harder DRPGs on Vita, and that was just going off this image some anon made.

I think the story is the main thing that it has going for it. The setting is fairly unique and most of the main characters are good and there's some intrigue.
The side characters are fucking cancer though holy shit. Fucking half Texan japanese guy who wants to be a comedian and they really dropped the fucking ball with his dialog translations or maybe it's supposed to be like this but either way I cringe every time. Same with the fucking black fatass teacher, I really don't get his character at all thought I think he's in on the shit going on in the game so maybe it'll make sense. Also most of the time when there's a yes or no question I have no idea what I'm actually answering but most of those don't matter anyway so whatever and there's a lot of really weirdly worded things in some of the menu options. All of that makes me think there was something going on with the localization. Whether it was just inaptitude or really complicated source material I can't say but making a joke about how Socrates would be called Soccerates if he liked soccer or whatever has to be the worst joke I have ever heard IN MY FUCKING LIFE and it's not like it's so bad it's good, it somehow manages to trancend that and go back to being just bad again. I supposed the same joke could be in japanese but fuck man.
Luckily the side characters are side characters and the main characters are enjoyable. I really hope that by the end they do good on the blank spots in the story because if they do it could be really good.

I actually thought a couple of her lines sounded like something taken from the Steins;Gate dub. If I would've heard the line and you told me it was from Steins;Gate I would've believed you.
I think she's trying to sound more upbeat and moe overall, but is extremely one note.
Maybe try to picture what you think Ashley Burch would sound like trying to voice an upbeat, moe, loli character?
On a different note though. Why doesn't someone just ask Xseed? Hatsuu keeps talking the progress for the recording of the second game, so it wouldn't be a strange question at all. She's been talking about it on there constantly. She'll probably post something about it again very very soon.

But yeah, I'm one of those weirdos who likes my stuff extremely faithful to the source material, while still being able to flow naturally. It's so weird to me how people claim making things faithful like that automatically makes it dry and all this bullshit, but when Jay Rubin or whoever translates Haruki Murakami books he doesn't change names and shit around and they still get great user reviews and sell like crazy.
Are videogame players just too stupid to be able to understand other cultures or too lazy to look up a single word they don't understand? I just don't get it. Everyone talks about wanting the videogames to grow up while what they're doing is dumbing it down.

Not going to work. Every game has a specific sales identification code that's region coded. While the games themselves aren't region locked, data like saves and DLC will not be able to carry to different regions. You can't buy EU DLC for your US copy of Estival Versus—you'll need to make a US account and purchase US DLC for that US copy of the game.
Likewise, everyone here that's buying things like Moero Chronicles or DOAX3 will have to have an Asia/Hong Kong PSN account to buy dlc for those games.

Couple of things, here
>JRPG's are the kind of thing where you can't just watch a video to see if it's gonna be a good time or not.
Actually you can know mostly what you're in for by digging through videos. The problem standing is a lot of videos out there are hardly clear on what you're getting into with any non-action game. Example being I can't find a Trillion video that gets into the meat of the game, so far. Either that, or the game just consists of menus, which I"m not attracted to at all.
Going a bit further, remembering last thread how incredibly picky with dungeon crawlers you are, I'm amazed you bothered to inquire to anyone at all concerning the RPG subgenre. You know your tastes more than we do. So it needs to be you making any and all decisions on what you enjoy. Some people here enjoyed Op Abyss, some people hated it. Not every niche game is going to be a guaranteed good time for every person.

Since when is listening to anyone's advice if a game is good or not a good idea?
People enjoy different things it's just the way things work. I actually like that this thread doesn't seem as negative as the rest of the site. I'm just one of those people who focuses on the good things about games instead of the bad though, I guess. I've had a lot of fun with games that people have just deemed trash and then bought other games like Disgaea 1 that everyone praises and couldn't get into it at all.
The general impression I get though is this isn't just some isolated problem your having for the first time. Why don't you just get a gamefly account? It's pretty cheap and they'll sell you games pretty damn cheap if you have an account too.
No need to be an ass about it though. I'm sure no one here was trying to trick you. Even if their advice didn't help you they still tried to didn'y they?

Should I go for the slim vita or the old first model vita? On one side the extra battery life and micro usb charger of the slim are nice, but the oled screen the older one has plus its overall appearance and design make me doubt which one to choose.

You're right and wrong. For whatever reason some games are literally the same exact ID between regions… the English Asian release of Soul Sacrifice Delta works with the NA DLC and Online Pass, though that's somewhat redundant since the only way to get the Online Pass is to buy the digital NA release in the first place.
Likewise, the English Asian release of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth works with the EU DLC - though NA DLC does NOT work with it.
There are a few more examples. It's complicated.

I'm in love with the OLED models. If you plan on using your Vita for remote play a lot and don't have your PS4 hooked up to an OLED (hahaha) or plasma, then it might be more better to go with the 2000, so the colors match your television better. Plus, finding a brand new OLED at a reasonable price isn't an easy task. (There was some brand new open box OLEDs for $160 a few months ago, but things like that are certainly rare.) Due to the nature of how OLEDs work too I wouldn't recommend buying a used one unless you can confirm that it's been treated well and doesn't have a lot of hours on it. Since you don't seem to have time with either you can't miss what you haven't had either, so if you pick up a 2000 model I'm sure you'll still enjoy it.
It may be a curse that I went for the OLED, because now I'm trapped trying to find a new one when mine breaks and there's times when I've been using my vita and watch anime on my LCD PC monitor and it just bugs me how washed out it looks when I never even noticed it before. (I watched 5cms per second on my vita and I can't fucking wait until OLED monitors/TVs become reasonably priced. It looked pretty amazing.)

Not crediting voice actors (or forcing them to use a pseudonym) goes back quite a ways, and even some of the more popular, notable voice actors used to get that treatment a lot. To use an example, in Shadow Hearts Covenant (just using that one since I played it recently), the really recognizable voices (Kari Wahlgren, Stephenie Sheh, Jamieson Price, Michelle Ruff, etc) are all only credited under psuedonyms, while the much lesser known ones (Ardwight Chamberlain, Amos Nandy, etc) got their actual names there. Michael McConnohie being an exception where he's done a lot of work, is recognizable, and still got his name listed properly.
Not sure if Japan has a similar way of handling things with their seiyuus, or if fans there would throw a fit about a recognizable voice not being given due credit.
>though I hope it isn't her at all anyway. Her & her brother both are scum and corrupt/ruin/fuck-up just about any game or project they're involved in
I expect she keeps getting roles possibly due to being a cheap hire and her brother being able to invoke nepotism and help her land jobs.

>Not sure if Japan has a similar way of handling things with their seiyuus
They do. Most Seiyuu have done some iteration of hentai. It's just never brought up in conversation as it's not polite and reputations and all that. Some are insanely obvious, as is evident by the near-score of straight-from-eroge releases where the VAs aren't switched at all. To Heart, Kanon, Kiminozo, Grisaia, Fate (to its credit, does not have any voiced porn scenes although, again, all of the seiyuu there have done a hentai at some junction), Shuffle, Majokoi, Koihime Musou, etc etc etc.
>>8749788
There are some exceptions, yes. But the common rule is that the IDs stay tied to region in most cases.

Well, I can certainly see why in regards to that. Even with English dubbing, I'm not sure certain western voice actors would want it all that known that they voiced for hentai (such as Dan Green's "Cluck like a chicken").
I meant more in the way of Japanese voicing for normal shows/games, whether they've had to go through being uncredited or forced to use false names for those like English voice actors out here had to for a good while.

That said, I believe there may be one or two cases in a non-porn avenue. It's a rare thing. I'm having trouble remembering exact accounts. I've seen seiyuu do work pro-bono, though. Midorikawa Hikaru, for example, loves the Super Robot Wars projects so much he's done them for free just so Banpresto could get exposure.

Funny you say that. Just a few weeks ago, most people were saying the exact opposite. I knew it was just sour grapes because EV hadn't released yet, but it's still annoying to see the sudden 180 after a solid year of hearing how much better SK2 was.

It's probably easier to get the 2000 rather than the 1000 and if you're not used to the OLED you probably wont notice the difference and some people even prefer the LCD. Some of the buttons on the 2000 are also better apparently, mainly the start and select buttons so there's that.
As it is I wouldn't trade my 1000 for a 2000. I think the OLED is definitely better but that being said if something were to happen to my 1000 I'd just get a 2000 instead of hunting for a 1000.

Toro's Friend Network shutdown?
That's horrible news. That's where pretty much all of my friends came from (not that we ever really played anything or communicated much, but I'm the loser that doesn't even have the internet, so it kind of makes sense). It was a neat little free game anyway. It's sad how things like that just vanish nowadays.
At least I made a couple friends through here recently. Not that I'm good for much right now besides liking when people make a good purchase or telling my vita to post things when when I bought a game that's on sale and stuff like that, but I should have broadband pretty soon and I own a shitload of games, so hopefully there will finally be some multiplayer in my future.
It's a shame Sony's too lazy to add communities to Vita like they did for PS4. It seems like everyone here plays the same kind of games, but never even plays together.
>>8752378
Oh yeah, I finally have CFW on my 3DS what the hell am I doing? I can finally play these things in order. (Although I'll probably skip the first game since the anime seemed to cover it pretty well and that would be going backwards rather than in order, but still.)
I've yet to play any entries besides SK:SV, but the games sound so different that it would make sense people would prefer one to the other.
A lot of Nintendo fans are pretty crazy though too, so I wouldn't be surprised if some people just automatically say it's better for being on 3DS. Not that that doesn't happen with the Vita and everything else, but the uhh "passion" I've seen some Nintendo fans display, just really makes me think some of them are in a class of their own.
>>8752440
It kind of irks me that Sony cheaped out on the OLED for the 2000 model, but now they're just throwing them in their VR headset anyway. I guess it's a little different, but it just sucks for the Vita fans who prefer the OLED and eventually will have to leave it behind. Sony really bragged up the OLED screen too and a lot of devs seemed to really like it. I remember Vanillaware in particular talking about how much better it made their game look.

I can through my phone. My speeds are just insanely awful. I was the person complaining that I couldn't get E&L's Japanese DLC to work despite letting it run tethered to my phone for days on end. It was pretty disappointing waiting that long only for it to tell me that there was an error and it had to start over. Then it happened a second time and I decided I'd like to play the game sometime that month, so I went to my mom's house and used her wifi.
I don't go online on a daily basis with my vita (tonight I wanted to see what updates were available for EDF and Toukiden. T:K doesn't have any. EDF had one that was only around 1MB thankfully), but definitely feel free to send it. The more reason i have to go online the more I will.
I'm gonna eat something real quick, play a little XBlaze, and get some sleep myself. It's certainly not the best VN, but really do enjoy it before bed. I bought the sequel, so I figured I should probably hurry up and finally finish it, so I can see how I like that one.

Holy fucking shit I had no chance to speak of. None. I fucking love it. It's actually leagues over Etrian Odyssey, now. Last boss gave me legit trouble, there, and we traded blows like gods. The 3 dragons less so, though, once I figured their gimmicks. But this shit was a "see you and wipe you the end" scenario. There's an element to DT2 called "crown" so Imma check that out. Debating this myself. Without my Bard boosting EXP, I end up with paltry numbers post-fight. I'm thinking of cutting down the team numbers to improve the rates, but that has its own drawbacks since not all the classes can weather mobs in lesser numbers (except my Dark Lord, Sage, & Valkyrie, who are fucking godly).
I say go for it. I have plans to pick up the extra characters later, if only because I'm going full-autism and want to try and specialize in all of the classes instead of just the Advanced ones.

The save/data system is completely retarded. Your saves and the game are tied together. You can't delete or move one without the other. Deleting games to make space? Say goodbye to your saves.
Backing up is time-consuming as shit as a result, since you're backing up ENTIRE GAMES unless you have the physicals. On top of that, according to an anon from last thread, the backup files you make through Sony's Vita client on your PC don't actually overwrite the previous backup—it makes additions. Meaning if you do backups quarterly, you're just bulking space onto your PC HDD or PS3/PS4 HDD.
And the transfer/backup process, as I said, takes hours. As in I hope you didn't have anything else to do as you will be there a while.
I have no idea what the hell Sony was thinking.

I don't know what it is about these games, I can't put them down. I get bored out of my mind and then am excited to play them again a couple hours later. The fanservice aspect isn't that egregiously hardcore with no full nudity, and the gameplay aspect has a lot of potential especially with the variety in characters but in practice is kinda disappointing.
It's like both the fanservice and gameplay together are good enough combo together to cover each other's shortcomings to trick me into having fun.

I'm not certain. I haven't run into problems with my 64gb just yet, and kinda kicking myself for not getting insurance on the bloody thing. I'm just having trouble seeing why that particular game was put on both. Maybe because they thought a game with heavy fanservice would do well on the 3DS? Meanwhile making Stella Glow multiplatform might have been a good idea, since Fire Emblem has completely overshadowed it. Imageepoch was no stranger to to PSP and VIta either. Yeah, from what I've heard of it (a friend did some research on the anime to avoid potential spoilers for me), the anime is an alternate take on things and varies a lot in a number of ways, including character personalities (such as Lady Rhi'a being rather soft spoken and kind in the game, while in the anime she's apparently quite bitchy).
What I'd like to know is why they opted for a Final Fantasy-esque CGI opening when the cover art, character art, and portraits are all anime styled. Reminds me a bit of that CG Edition of Tales of Hearts (minus there being any ingame FMVs aside from the opening in SoD), though the game at least is stand-alone rather than part of a series, so it doesn't feel as strange as that version of Hearts (as Tales has always been big on anime styling).
>Since Marvelous worked with them too I sent a message to XSeed just asking them to tell me that Luminous Arc Infinity isn't gonna happen. Playing Stella Glow and looking into Luminous Arc just really bummed me out and I just almost feel like I need to hear it.
Well, even if it doesn't happen at this time, perhaps somewhere down the line? There's been some cases where a game only gets cleared for localization a good three or more years after it originally came out. I suppose it depends on how much demand there is (might be wrong, but I don't think Luminous Arc has had much of a western audience; I rarely see LA1 or 2 for the DS around, let alone as complete copies) and if the localizer still has access to releasing things for the system at that point though.

That wasn't the point of the picture, but I've enjoyed most of the games I bought. I still haven't beaten Uncharted, but I'm not really a fan of that game in particular.
I love games in general. Even if a game's general consensus is that it's bad, I usually still find it interesting and get some enjoyment out of it. If I wanted to I could sell pretty much every videogame I buy and make money off of it though anyway. I go for the deals.
(Right now Nintendo DS' are $9.99 refurbished at Gamestop. It's too late to buy them online anymore but if you live by some one of the stores probably has one. You might enjoy the selection of games for that better. No need to thank me!)

>a friend did some research on the anime to avoid potential spoilers for me
You have some cool friends. I couldn't even begin to make something like that happen.
>Final Fantasy-esque CGI opening
From what I've seen I never would've guessed that was the case. It's been awhile, but I think it was the anime style cover that caught my eye in the first place. I would've thought good CGI would be far more costly back then too, but I could be wrong. The game sounds like quite the production for a fairly unknown DS game though. I really need to give that a shot at some point.
>I rarely see LA1 or 2 for the DS around
Yeah, I was kind of surprised that all three even got localized. The first one seemed to get slammed pretty hard in reviews and there was a hell of a lot of competition on the DS. It kind of makes it even sadder then if we never do get Infinity in some form. I wonder how much those games even did sell over here. I was stupid and just buying Final Fantasy, Mario Kart and whatever you could find at Walmart back then. I really wish I would've gotten into more niche games earlier. I feel like I missed out on so much stuff that it's impossible to catch up and sometimes it makes it harder to overlook flaws the same way I'm able to when a game is new. Kind of how good graphics can make you overlook a slow battle system in a JRPG and stuff like that.

I was just reading about Sands of Destruction and apparently it's non-localized name was World Destruction. I wonder why they felt it necessary to let be known that sand was doing the destroying. It almost makes it sound more like a Prince of Persia game that way. I guess, destroying the world does seem overrated and World Destruction would've made it sound like some type of military game anyway.
(Sorry for all the DS talk. White DS lites are only $20 and can still be bought on gamestop's website if anyone feels left out (or could be a couple hours ago. Not sure about now))

You've only got 2GB left. What're you gonna do when you get a game update that's 1.9GB or more? Like, for instance, Senran Kagura Estival Versus, which has a 1.9GB patch update.
I have 10GB still left on my 32GB card, and I buy mostly all-physical. The only games that I have digitally are:
> Senran Kagura Bon Appetit
> Resogun
> Lone Survivor
> Soul Sacrifice Delta
Of course, I also have 6 PS1 games and 5 PSP games as well.
I'd still encourage anyone who's just buying a Vita to splurge for the 32GB one. Then you don't have to worry a single bit over how much space you have, not for a long while, at any rate.

Depends on whether one's going to be going mostly physical where possible or digital all the way, and some games can take a lot of room. Might be wrong, but I hear that Atelier Sophie's over 7 GB on the Vita in Japan, which would certainly eat up a big chunk of memory on its own and is sadly slated as digital only again as far as the Vita version being localized goes.
>>8761843
Well, if memory serves, with Tales of Hearts on the DS, Namco made two variants one with the usual anime cutscenes and openings that the series has been known for, and one with CGI replacing those. Speculation was that maybe Namco was debating about localizing the CGI one if maybe they thought dropping the anime style would garner more western sales, but they never bothered with it (and I'm pretty damn sure the anime edition sold much better in Japan than the CGI one, which might have tied in).
There's also the fact that (while maybe it's just my system's screen, or perhaps the fact I'm using a Lite model) the opening looks really blocky and pixelated. If memory serves, the openings for various other DS games like FFIV and Avalon Code look a good bit better in my experiences, so maybe including an opening FMV was a bit of an afterthought, or they didn't have as much experience with trying to get a CGI one to still look good with the screen limitations (strikes me that it likely would have looked better rendered for the PSP screen; game requires two screens for combat at different heights though, so I can see why they went for the DS) as their other DS games all had anime openings to my knowledge.
>Yeah, I was kind of surprised that all three even got localized.
You mean two. Luminous Arc 3: EYES never came west (and if I had to guess, the fan translation's in hiatus). I'd guess Atlus wasn't satisfied with sales of the first two games and opted to leave the other game overseas (similar with Endless Frontier EXCEED not being brought over by them either after the prior game sold poorly here).
>>8761972
Well, there certainly is sand involved. I'd guess that Sega (or whoever they whored the localization process out to if it wasn't an internal one; while there's a few notable changes, it still strikes me as a decent localization job) thought the original name sounded really generic.

I'll just plug it into my computer and store one of the other games I'm not playing. What the hell did they add that was so big though? Thankfully, updates of that size aren't very common. I better be able to find a 32gb for $35-40 if I end up running out of space because of that stuff. I use to see used 32gb cards for $40 all the time, but now I haven't seen one for awhile (not that I've exactly been looking, but still). Luckily, people pay crazy prices on ebay so upgrading from 16gb to 32gb should only cost me around maybe $10 I'm thinking?
Won't you be mad if gamestop or someone puts 32gb cards on sale for half of what you paid if you still haven't even used all the room anyway?

In all seriousness, if Sony pulls bullshit like that me and just about every other Vita owner would be pretty fucking salty I imagine, given that's REALLY what they should've just done in the first place.
But we're just talking possibilities now. And who knows what Sony's gonna pull out? I'm not holding my breath for MicroSD support. It just ain't gonna happen, Sony's in too deep, and far too Jewish to change over now. I don't guess OLED is an impossibility, but it'd take more than a better screen for Sony to get more shekels out of me for a Vita 3000

>Tales of Hearts on the DS
Wow, I never even heard that they did that. I would've been pretty disappointed if they did localize it with CGI instead of anime scenes. By now I'd hope that they'd know better than to do something like that anyway, but even back then it just strikes me as the kind of thing that they shoud be advertising to anime fans instead of just trying to make it look like a generic FF game. (I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but Namco just always puzzles me. Speaking of which if they don't localize that new summon Night game I'll be very disappointed. They had to have seen the hype surrounding it right?)
>the openings for various other DS games like FFIV and Avalon Code look a good bit better
Maybe because of whatever video format they used and compression due to size restraints? It does seem like some companies like to cheap out and get smaller cards for things to save money. I think that actually might have happened with E&L+ and is the reason the original audio was made DLC. I don't have any proof, but I just don't understand it.
>Luminous Arc 3: EYES never came west
Fuck, it didn't? I thought they all did and I was even thinking about buying them after I finished Stella Glow. That really sucks,
>original name sounded really generic
Yeah, I'm all for not making unnecessary changes, but i do like the localized name better.

Glad you're enjoying it anon. If you watch sales and stuff there's tons of fun to be had on the vita even living like a NEET. The normal online retail watching stuff will net you amazing deal sometimes, but digital too. I bought Soul Sacrifice Delta for $5 and they actually sold Gravity rush for 82 cents at one point. That's not to mention PS1 and PSP games.

>I don't guess OLED is an impossibility
Since they're using OLED for their VR units there's probably a way higher chance than there was, but I still find it very unlikely. The best hope for it is if people in Japan have been complaining about it a lot. It certainly made me feel salty when they used the OLED as a selling point in the first place.
I wish the way the systems were built there was just a fairly simple way to switch out a LCD an OLED. Besides the crazy dreams though, the next time I see a brand new OLED for a reasonable price I'm probably gonna buy it. Mine has thousands of hours on it, so I'm not sure how long it's really safe. I wish there was a way to check how many hours the unit's been used for.

>>8762262
If you're wanting more Soul Sacrifice, there's an extended version called Soul Sacrifice Delta that occasionally gets marked down (cheapest I've personally seen it at was $4; game's also had a permanent mark down from about $36 to $18 or so). I could be wrong (I never played the original version), but I want to say that you can use prior save data from the base game with it as well, or something. Shame that version's digital only in the west though.
>>8762730
>Wow, I never even heard that they did that. I would've been pretty disappointed if they did localize it with CGI instead of anime scenes.
There's comparison videos regarding the opening footage of both versions. The CGI one looks really awkward for a Tales game, to say the least. Still, the sad thing is that apparently Baba wanted the west to play through Hearts in some format (in an interview prior to Hearts R ever being announced or localization) between it utilizing the DS well and having what he felt was a good story, but that Namco had no plans at that point in time for western players to be able to experience it (and then when the time came for Hearts R to be localized, Namco opted to not hold 8-4's leash as tight as they had prior).
>Unlike "I Am Setsuna". How fucking stupid. "Setsuna of Snow and Sacrifice" sounded incredibly better.
I've seen speculation that the name change is a sign of Square-Enix potentially going to try to push the game as a "strong female protagonist" sort of game considering how narcissistic "I am Setsuna" sounds for a JRPG name, but I figure we won't really know until they provide more examples of the English script. I'd like to think Square-Enix is smarter than that, but given what they've done recently, I'm not sure at this point.
In general though, it really seems like Square-Enix only cares about what they want to have sell well, between fucking with the localizations for various games (repeatedly having text only accents in Dragon Quest games even after customers express how annoying it is) and denying potential customers various versions, or outright denying the west games outright.
>Maybe because of whatever video format they used and compression due to size restraints?
I'm not sure. I'd need to see just what the cartridge filesize limits were at the time and how much space the game's data eats up (checking emuparadise would make that part easy). The main 3D the game uses is for environments (which have an eight directional camera control) and the game's opening; characters, NPCs, and enemies all use sprites both in combat and out. The game does have slowdown at times in combat (particularly against big enemies that fill both screens), so maybe the sprites eat up more space than I'd otherwise think. And to be fair there's a fair amount of voicing for a DS JRPG as well, so maybe it all adds up to a rather large filesize for a DS game that would have resulted in the opening animation having a worse look than normal.
>By now I'd hope that they'd know better than to do something like that anyway, but even back then it just strikes me as the kind of thing that they shoud be advertising to anime fans instead of just trying to make it look like a generic FF game.
Considering Hearts DS was released in 2008 in Japan and it would be another three years until Namco actually tried to do the series right in the west with marketing for Xillia (the only prior game to get decent marketing was Symphonia, but I think NoA handled that for them at the time; most of the other entries didn't have all that great of sales, especially the PS1 ones), they didn't seem to know that much about what to do at the time. Wouldn't surprise me if they thought CGI-ing the cutscenes would bring in more of a mainstream JRPG audience (the kind that might only stick with Square's stuff normally).
>Speaking of which if they don't localize that new summon Night game I'll be very disappointed. They had to have seen the hype surrounding it right?
Not sure. With the older games on the GBA and DS, Atlus was the one that opted to bring the first two Swordcraft Stories and Twin Age over (I'd guess Namco and/or Banpresto had no interest in doing so themselves), but after that pretty much no one wanted to bother with them until Gaijinworks with SN5. Considering how hard it was to get Namco to even start localizing Digimon again, I wouldn't be surprised if Summon Night doesn't have that much of a chance with them at this point. Still, I think I've heard rumor about English trophies being found, so who knows.

I'm still glad we got it in some form, but so many things about that game's localization just don't make any sense. I wish we got behind the scenes books like every other thing does. I really want to know more about so much stuff and it just seems like only the people involved will ever know.
>speculation that the name change
I could see how people would take it like that, but my assumption was it was something more like I robot or something whereas trying to say she's an individual and not just a sacrifice or like she's not being regarded as a normal person due to her duties, but her name is Setsuna and she is a person. I don't know. I'm probably wrong and reading too deep into it, with too little information, but regardless the whole thing is stupid. They had a great name until someone watched that stupid Will Smith movie and decided to fuck it up. The names definitely would appeal to different demographics. Maybe they just figure they'll get more sales from the crowd who will click on some short ass name to find out who Setsuna is rather than some poetic sounding name where the mystery behind it has a way different vibe. The strange thing is the original name is actually one of the things that captivated me about the game as details were being released. It just almost sounds like one of the books I'd read or something.
But, yeah, it seems like at this point Square Enix only cares about large amounts of money. It's pretty obvious that the games they're skipping the Vita versions for would make money, but it seems like their research shows that it's not enough to be worth their time or something. (But then again Hitman GO is coming to Vita, so I have no fucking idea what they're thinking. Maybe their market research regarding the Vita in western territories is just completely fucked or maybe they don't even have any. I have no clue what's going on at this point.)
>opening animation having a worse look than normal
I've found quite a few vita games to have OPs with noticeable compression. Nothing actually once the game starts. Just the opening videos that play before the title screen. I know there was some game with dual audio where the Japanese had noticeably lower audio quality too. I think it was Demon Gaze, but I'm not completely certain.
>CGI-ing the cutscenes would bring in more of a mainstream JRPG audience
Probably, it makes sense I guess that they want people to know they're buying something that has more in common to the Legend of Dragoon than Yu-Gi-Oh, but you'd still think there would be other ways to achieve that. (I think the last Star Ocean game or something similar had CGI character portraits instead of regular Anime ones, but I haven't played it yet, so don't quote me on that)
>I think I've heard rumor about English trophies being found
Yeah, I heard the same thing. If they do localize it then I need to worry if they actually bring the vita version too. I watched videos of it running on vita and that game actually looks damn good. It seemed to be some of the best graphics I've seen on the Vita in a pretty long time. The Vita version outsold the PS4 version pretty good in Japan too, so hopefully that's a sign that it's on more equal footing than things like "I Am Setsuna" and what I've heard about the Vita's load times and everything.

You mean lore books for various games or just general details of how the games are actually localized? If the latter, I'm not sure how many companies really make it clear as to how they actually go about things. And hell, even some of the smaller localization teams are practical unknowns regardless of the quality they do (and I'd wager a lot of the older ones are either dead, or got merged into the more well known teams, or keep their heads down and just do their job; I'm still trying to find more out about Wordbox Inc. and ZPang America Inc., but details are pretty scant about both). With Hearts R I'd speculate that, considering Namco hadn't even had plans to localize more portable Tales games after Radiant Mythology, they simply didn't give a shit about how 8-4 handled it as long as they could say "well we tried to bring one over" at bare minimum, whereas with the console entries they seem to be more willing to make sure 8-4 does a decent job (especially since before Hearts R, they'd handled five or more games in the series at that point for Namco).
>Maybe their market research regarding the Vita in western territories is just completely fucked or maybe they don't even have any. I have no clue what's going on at this point.)
Has Square-Enix even bothered to localize much for the Vita at this point aside from FFX/X-2 HD and some (I think it was a) card based game that I admittedly can't remember the name of?

>Meanwhile making Stella Glow multiplatform might have been a good idea, since Fire Emblem has completely overshadowed it.
If what you're saying is true, then Stella Glow would've been equally drowned out on the Vita by the sea of waifubait games we already have.
The thing is, I don't think similar games drown each other out when on the same systems, but rather they serve to attract customers with consistent tastes. If I had liked console FPSs, and am interested in two titles released on the same platform, then I'm more willing to buy that platform to get a chance to play both titles. For those exact reasons, Banjo and Kazooie do not conflict with Mario 64 or Conker simply because they're on the system, but rather serve as a bundle to attract those curious about 3D Platformers to the N64. The same is true for the waves of DRPGs, Persona clones, and Hunting games released on the Vita.
The only real problem occurs when a game gets released on exactly the same week as another, bigger, title. However, Stella Glow might've actually had a slight advantage over FE If, given that it was released earlier that month in Japan. The biggest reason Stella Glow failed is likely because of insufficient marketing.
>Why the fuck don't people buy these companies?
Because buying a company is expensive. People just aren't buying into video games like they used to and so investors, publishers, and devs all prefer to play things safe until the market stabilizes.

My copies of Airship Q and PuyoPuyo Tetris have come in today.
I can tell you with certainty that the English patch for Airship Q hasn't been released yet. I thought perhaps it had been already. Which is peculiar…the main character speaks in English when you open the inventory screen saying "Here are my items". If you go to the item craft screen she says "Let's craft." and on this plue screen she says "Let's check my post." So I imagine this is some sort of mail-box menu for in-game messages? Hell, even when you start the game she says the title "Airship Q". But none of the in-game text is in English.
PuyoPuyo Tetris is just about what you'd expect…it's Tetris, It's PuyoPuyo, and there's some sort of story mode to go along with all these cute characters. There's quite a few game modes, several for the Tetris style, several for the Puyo style of play, and a couple for the combined style.

I dont know exactly how all the backup stuff works. But are you able to backup your card, wipe it, and only restore your new games you installed?
it sounds like the pc backup method could allow you to delete files. Not sure if it is the whole backup file or individual items though.

That's happened to me before in that same situation.
For digital games, you have to reinstall them, and they'll work fine.
What I did was redownload the games from the PSN while I still had the original installations on my memory card. Once downloaded, the Vita will install the new files over the old installation, while keeping the save files intact. After that, I didn't experience any more problems while playing those games.
You still might want to backup your files before doing this, just in case.

>The only real problem occurs when a game gets released on exactly the same week as another, bigger, title.
That's certainly true. Shadow Hearts for the PS2 got massively overshadowed in sales due to releasing only five days before Final Fantasy X did here in the west (and even in Japan it released roughly a month earlier; former Sacnoth employees have stated that higher ups, likely at Aruze, bitched about low sales figures and urged them to make a more normal game like their competition for better sales) and to this day the series still remains rather underplayed, especially the first two entries due to being rather hard to find copies of. Similar happened with Dual Hearts being pit against Kingdom Hearts as well; no need to say which one sold better and which was pretty much forgotten.
Honestly not real sure why any localization company would choose to release their JRPGs out here against Square's stuff in the same timeframe (and Square-Enix even manages to occasionally overshadow their own more niche releases at times by releasing them alongside their more anticipated ones; such as Resonance of Fate being released within a week of Final Fantasy XIII here) given how much more well known/anticipated Square's games are apt to be, though it wouldn't surprise me if in some cases Square-Enix is the one that chooses to release close to their competition to try to reduce sales of rivals. But that's just speculation from me I suppose.

Yeah, thinking about it, my argument was somewhat off. Rather than exactly a week, it probably extends to over a month and so it's likely that FE If's release date really did fuck up Stella Glow's sales.
>speculation
You're probably right in at least some instances of that.
Although, I can't recall whether Stella Glow's release date was announced before FE If's announcement in Japan, or after. At any rate, I doubt Nintendo/IS would intentionally fuck up a 3rd-party exclusive for the heck of it- that's just needless friendly fire.

>You mean lore books for various games or just general details of how the games are actually localized?
Kind of like those behind the scenes/what really went on books that movies, tv shows, and musical acts seem to always get. More stuff like Console Wars really. I just feel like there's so much we're missing. I wouldn't be surpised if we get a couple books about major platforms or franchises, but with NDA's and everything I'm not even keeping my hopes up.
(I really don't know much about this stuff, but if anyone does lknow some good non fiction videogame books I
d be happy to give them a read)
>card based game that I admittedly can't remember the name of?
That's funny I can't either. It was some F2P zombie card game. I think that and FFX/X2 was it. I think FF gave them some pretty decent sales, so it makes it strange that they would try going for F2P card games and Hitman instead of JRPGs.
>>8765141
I hope that was some type of mistake. I absolutely hate scummy tactics like that. I'm kind of surprised there's no law against it. It's pretty much just a different kind of false advertising.
I've been dealing with P-A quite a lot lately and their customer service seems top notch at least. Now I'm just waiting to see if they get everything here in a timely manner iand in good condition. They're 2/2 so far, but this order is larger and more expensive than both of those put together.
>>8767057
>If what you're saying is true, then Stella Glow would've been equally drowned out on the Vita by the sea of waifubait games
I can't be sure it's true, but with Nintendo putting out their most expensive FE experience (?) yet. It wouldn't be surprised if a fair amount of people put that money towards FE's expensive ass bundle instead.
I just thought it might've gotten sales from Vita owners who want a FE-like experience (plus you're essentially going around collecting magical girls, so it might not have been to out of place on Vita). They probably didn't even have the resources to make it multiplatform anyway though and no matter what it sold it probably wouldn't have been enough to save the company which is what I really wanted. It's just a shame we won't be getting anymore 3DS exclusives or anything from them anymore. I'm just really enjoying the game so far and it's bumming me out.

I actually need to get back to playing Muramasa. I played it for a little bit just to see what the game was like and determined it was a game that I'd need to dedicate decent time to, in order to not get crushed. Apparently, I'm not very good at 2D action games and playing it on easy feels like such a cop out. I don't think I can bring myself to do it. Maybe playing Odin Sphere will help raise my Muramasa skills too. I'm really looking forward to that game.
>Resonance of Fate being released within a week of Final Fantasy XIII
I really wish I would've bought that instead. I bought FFXIII day one like a dumbass. I still had a little bit of fun with FFXIII, but it was not the game that I expected or wanted. That was the game that made me lose all faith in Square Enix. At least Lost Odyssey felt like a Final Fantasy game. Despite it's flaws a really loved that game. (I really need that book. 1000 years of Dreams? I think it might only be available in Japanese though. Looking into it now.)

But, I play way too many average or below average games to go after those things anyway. Maybe I should try to change my goal from play every game that looks the least bit interesting to 100% the most interesting games ever made.

There's also the factor of "stand alone game vs entry in established series" if you ask me. I'd wager that more people are apt to drop money on, or at least save money for something that's in a series they've heard of and by a company they might know better than take a risk with a new IP made by a company they may not know, regardless of how the quality between both compares. To use Shadow Hearts and FFX as an example again, Final Fantasy X was part of a long established, popular series and Squaresoft still had a decent reputation, and while Shadow Hearts was technically already an established IP (via Koudelka on the PS1), its predecessor sold poorly with reviewers at the time giving it a lot of grief, Sacnoth wasn't a well known company at all despite having former Square employees in its ranks, and Midway wasn't exactly known for handling JRPGs here.
>>8771903
Yeah, occasionally you get little videos or interviews on various games, but it seems to mostly be about how the games were actually made, as opposed to the process that goes into localization (though with western made games, the latter is a non-issue, at least as far as the English audience goes). I do seem to recall hearing that Working Designs included occasional video discs with some of their games; not sure if that was on their actual localization process or just how the game was actually made by the developers. It does strike that in the current climate, maybe most companies wouldn't want to make people aware of all that, lest they risk getting heat from fans if things like cutting content are something they wind up doing really early in the process. Still, I seem to recall that XSEED at least does localization blog posts about various things they have to work at and find solutions to, between the text translation, choosing voice actors, and bug fixing.
>At least Lost Odyssey felt like a Final Fantasy game. Despite it's flaws a really loved that game.
In addition to having old Square guys like Sakaguchi, Mistwalker also managed to get some of the former Shadow Hearts team working with them on the game, after Aruze dissolved Nautilus, so I suppose that it helps they'd managed to acquire talent that, if not working formerly with Square, had learned and grown competent working among the former Square employees Sacnoth and Nautilus had prior.
Actually still need to give Lost Odyssey a go sometime, but the 360's never been that high on my list of things to look into due not having a lot of games I like (and as of now, I think the only exclusive JRPGs on it are Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, with SO4, Eternal Sonata, and Tales of Vesperia having seen expanded PS3 version, although the last needed a fan translation).

Yeah, I've noticed that some games are including commentary now, which I find really cool. I read XSeed's blogs when i find out about them. They can be kind of interesting. The last one I read went into how they approached translation for Laura and stuff like that. Even if I don't always agree with choices it helps to see where those choices are coming from and can make it more understandable. I wish more companies would do stuff like that.
>but the 360's never been that high on my list of things to look into due not having a lot of games I like
Yeah, I bought one before all those expanded versions became I thing, but there's still things like Magna Carta 2 and stuff like that I even own and haven't played yet that will make picking up another one worthwhile for me.
You can actually find the things incredibly cheap now. I actually just saw one at Goodwill the other day for $30, but it was one of the white ones and I didn't know offhand how to check if it was one of the ones with the Falcon chip (I think that's the only white older looking model one that's reliable, but it's been so long I'm not 100% sure) and I'll be damned if I'm paying $30 for one of the timebomb models.

i do dabble a little in opiates, just rarely mix it with alcohol for some reason. well i do know the reason, because when i get my hands on shit i have to use it NOW rather than wait for a prime opportunity to abuse, like say waiting till i have both booze + opiates to mix.
luckily for me painkillers make me physically ill. even in small controlled doses, like taking a prescribed amount, i feel extreme nausea and fever-like symptoms for six solid hours.
so that keeps me away from them. plus i'm socially retarded, hate people and i'm currently unemployed so getting illegal drugs / manipulating doctors into misprescribing me shit is out of the question. i stick to the legal stuff. alcohol and nicotine.
protip for nicotine: use snuff. snuff does not cause cancer like its cousins chew and smokes do. it's 100% safe for human consumption and gives the same buzz as that shit does.

For some reason drinking on opiates seems to make me feel way less drunk than I actually should, but then if I drink not on any, I get wasted from it. It's really weird. Drinking on painkillers and benzos at the same time definitely hits me though. I ended mistaking someone else's apartment for my own, somehow, doing that. Luckily, they could tell I was fucked up and were cool about it (apparently). I didn't actually even remember doing it, but it was awkward the next day when I found out. (I think I slept in a basement that night for some reason too. I don't know what the fuck was going on.) I just need to stick to playing Vita games.

>Is there any other melancholy games like this?
Admittedly I still need to give Ar Norusge a go myself (friend is taking forever to get a PS2 hard drive for me to play AT2's retranslation on, as I'd wanted to at least play the original two games first), so I'm not sure of the exact vibe you want, but I'll give it a shot.
Shadow Hearts: Covenant can get pretty sad at times, especially if you play the prior game beforehand (as it helps to establish world and some of the characters that you can get attached to; Covenant is set after the bad end of it) with the main character not only suffering from an understandable depression after the events six months prior, but also winds up afflicted with an existential crisis of his own with the ramifications becoming more apparent later in the game.
Honestly, if you like JRPGs, it's a great series (with the first two PS2 ones forming a duology of sorts, and are loosely connected with their PS1 predecessor; I'd highly recommend playing them in order for both story and gameplay reasons) and it's a shame that they're not more available, be it as PSN rereleases or an HD Collection for the PS3 or Vita (similar to how FFX HD was handled). I hope something comes of a few of the former devs wanting to potentially revisit the games, but as of now they've got nothing in the works (it also sadly wouldn't surprise me if the games just aren't popular enough in Japan or out here to warrant a remaster or whatever)
Had to rewrite all of this because my browser shat itself.

So, I need a new game to play thatll kill at least 40 hours or more, I figured I'd ask you guys what you recommend. Thread is kind of long, and most of the titles in the OP image I've looked through or played, I just cant seem to find one that I think would be fit a good story, at least somewhat of a challenge (preferably harder, I wish salt and sanctuary was already on vita), and decently long (I work overnights with fuck all to do, so I play vita or 3ds as much as possible).
What would you guys recommend? I dont like sports or fighting games, rpgs are good, character social interactions you work up are good (persona4 lookin at you, needed animated Rise "you spend the night together (on christmas)" scene though)
Anyway list of games played/beaten
-persona4, gravity rush, ZE:VLR, Ys:MoC, sly cooper ToT (I think?), touch my katamari, disgea4 (not a fan)
And recently replayed chrono cross cause eh, $10
I'll list 3ds titles as well in case any of you happen to be 3dsfags as well and have ideas there
-Eterian Odyssey2, RF4, Xenoblade3d, MH4U, majoras mask, PersonaQ, KH3D
I looked at the SAO game, but its combat just looks mindnumbingly boring, watched someone play through an area 3-5+ levels above them, never saw an hp bar drop below 90% and to much time spent auto attacking, like vanilla wow grinding low level trash mobs as a paladin level of boring
So, what do you guys recommend?

Dynasty Warriors 8 Complete Edition. It has 5 campaigns that will last you a good 10 or so hours each if you try to 100%. More if you go after the hidden weapons and stuff.

still can't sleep.
i just want to say to the fellows who i promised i'd play toukiden with: i don't think you should get your hopes up about me playing with you anymore. i'm looking around at a bunch of videos and reading testimonials and i don't know about this game anymore.
it looks like a piss easy faggot game for the types of guys who enjoy turning their brain off and watching michael bay movies.
identical to freedom wars, really. but at least in freedom wars, the abductors can actually damage you and down you. not that they hit often, just like toukiden, but at least when they did they hit hard.
i just can't see myself enjoying a game where i can shut my brain off.
a testimonial on gamefaq's i just read, a guy says he played with the AI allies and had his character just stand there while the AI allies finished multiple missions for him.
yeah……. sounds like a great time…. a game so easy it plays itself.

the bosses literally just stand there.
this guy goes a full seven minutes without taking a hit at one point in this video.
and i didn't see him use any resources a single time.
hahahaha can you imagine if you could complete G-Rank quests in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite without bringing a single thing in your backpack?
this toukiden game is just astounding. it's like an action equivalent of a facebook game.

…. jesus that just looks boring as fuck. Oh flashy, big weapons, crazy combos!… while the bosses just… kind of stand there doing fuck all
I mean I'm sure these guys are over powered as fuck so if its like MH they're staggering/toppling the things which explains a lot, but even when they dont, the bosses just look completely impotent and like their most fearsome attack is "flail like an angry 2 year old"
Actually thats probably being to nice to the game, if an angry 2 year old flailed into your nuts that would actually hurt… these bosses look like they cant even do that

the main problem of toukiden is the welfare NPC players which make the game too easy, solo missions are always most intense and even then there are like only few of them for the entire game

yeah, you get struck at full force by a 300,000 pound man made of stone that's 25 feet tall and it takes a centimeter off the health bar.
nah i know, anyone looking at that would assume those player characters are overpowered, but i've watched a good two dozen videos of this shit game and every one has been like this. end game, beginning of the game, it doesn't matter.
i'm still going to buy it and give it a shot though. i don't want to hate games, i really don't. they just don't give me a fucking choice, putting out shit like this. this looks like shit.

>i dont want to hate games
This is the problem I'm finding myself in more and more as I get older
Shit just doesnt hold my attention anymore. Game devs seem to have taken to making only three types of games anymore in large part
-Overly flashy, look at how cool this all looks! types. No substance in story or characters, no challenge, lots of shit going on for eye candy, but what is there to this game other than "LOOK AT HOW PRETTY IT IS!?" its the reason I dont want to bother with SAO:HF, watching videos it looks flashy, with contrived character interactions predefined by the show, and battles look mindnumbingly dull, BUT ITS PRETTY!
-"ZOMG OPEN WORLD!" shit loads of space to run around in, but nothing you do really makes any difference with LOTS of empty space, challenge is still sparse at that, character interaction and story might be decent, but well… they fall into the skyrim/fo4/mgs5/AssCreed problem where what you do doesnt matter much at all, and what challenge there is to be had is few and far between
-OH LOOK ITS NOSTALGIA TIME! games, either remaking the same shit we played in the 90s, or the same art/game styles with new stories. Which either are insanely simple (undertale pac run), or an heroing levels hard, with nothing in between. They arent flashy, the controls are simplistic, theres some story but not a lot of character depth, usually nothing you do matters much, maybe you get ending 1 or ending 2, depending on what you do, but out side of that? It boils down to ME3 level of "endings" we SHOULD have moved beyond 10 years ago.
Sure some stuff falls outside those boxes. But not much. A rare gem that becomes a beloved favorite, or god awful turd that was TRYING to hit one of those boxes and failed miserably
Nothing really catches my fancy anymore. Hell I only want to play Salt and Sacrifice because its DS nostalgia and looks decently challenging, maybe with some good story telling. But… is it so much to ask that we get a game that looks nice, has good combat, is challenging, has a good story that you influence, has characters that you interact with and change your relationship with them based on your choices in the game, and all of this in the SAME game?
Starting to lose hope that games are ever going to evolve forward again frankly. We've been on a backslide into mediocrity for the last 5+ years

So, one game that finally caught my attention
Corpse party. For any of you that have played it, is it worth replaying the first two before the third?
It would end up being $65 to buy and play all of them, jesus more than a main console game… but, it seems like a decently horrific story. Or are the older two games more meh and would just reading the plot of those games online be a wiser choice?

Play the first two. Specifically the first. The second you could get away with a synopsis if you wanted to. The third doesnt really live up as well to the first imo.
The first has such detailed descriptions about how you die…to the point Im getting squeamish trying to type something out. just imagine rusty spoons and eyeballs and how descriptive you can get whereas the third one would basically say, "and when the ghost sees you, your eyes start to spin, and then you cant see anymore, hearing a plop sound on the floor".
The third also has chibi 3d models just just look silly more than anything in a game like this. The story also gets waaay crazier than what the original leads you to beleive, but it does wrap up everything nicely.

Damn, well thank you. If it makes you feel any better this convinced me that I'll be buying these incredibly soon. It just sounds too perfect for me now and I've wanted to try them out for too long as it is. I'm done waiting. (It is a fucking shame that it can't be a backwards compatible PS4 game to at least make it a little easier on me. I'd rather have a remaster obviously, but for the sheer convenience it would help a lot right now, as I'm the process of packing to move and stuff)
>Covenant is set after the bad end of it
Am I better off getting the true ending then going back and getting the bad ending before starting the second game then for continuity purposes?
>and are loosely connected with their PS1 predecessor
I take it wouldn't kill me to skip it for the time
being? I've wanted to play Koudelka, but I almost feel like I might enjoy it more after falling in love with the other games (if all goes as planned)
>>8775841
I recently enjoyed ToCS. I'd play on hard if you want more of a challenge though. DT2 is supposed to be more challenging than things like PQ (and seemed to be to me from the hour I played it (DT2 not PQ I'm at the end of that)).
>never saw an hp bar drop below 90%
You can get brutally murdered in that game if you do thing wrong. I'm actually stuck at a boss right now and I've put over 80 hours into the game. It's mainly the damn. The main part of the game is easy enough, but the Hollow Fragment content you need to manage things well and go in prepared unless you're planning on just grinding your way through it.
If you have a PS4 maybe pick up the game for $5 on that first to see how you like it. It get's dull after putting in enough hours, but I really loved it for a good 20-40 hours. It was one of my favorite games on the system really. (I never did play .hack though)
>>8776177
That's a shame, but whatever you want to do man. It seems like you do the total opposite whereas I try going into everything blind and not even bothering to listen 90% of people's feedback. there is a demo of the first game if you want to try it out yourself. I've heard Ragnarok Odyssey: Ace is pretty much impossible to solo, but I've heard a lot of complaints about the general game, so that might be for you either.
Why not just buy games cheap and then if you don't like them throw them on ebay and make a little profit? It looks like I could definitely get more than the $21 dollars I paid for my brand new copy if I don't like it.
>>8776231
I've seen japanese videos where it looked like the bosses weren't fucking around. They guy still took care of them easy enough, but he was one of those claw grip players who seemed seasoned in just about every hunting game. i watched one of his Freedom wars videos too and that guy seemed pretty badass compared to my meager skills in the game.
>>8777053
I wouldn't even bother with BD if you don't have a fresh memory of the first two. They're all flawed games in their own way, but I Loved all three. They were just so different from the usual stuff we get. It's a sham GrisGris takes forever and doesn't put out more unique games like that.
>>8777319
i guess, but he's still not gonna know who the hell some of the people are they're talking about and won't probably won't notice a lot of nods and stuff like that.
Ms Yui's chapter in BoS and the last chapter were so fucking good too.

I actually did feel like this killed the atmosphere a little.
Thankfully I'm not a fan of the wrong ends either, because most of those were a joke.

That's why you don't play with the NPC allies **if you play the demo for Kiwami, there's some pretty tough fights under the "special missions" section. The beginning game is pretty easy though, even without the NPCs.

> Ragnarok Odyssey Ace is pretty much impossible to solo
So the game is just supposed to be that annoyingly tough? The orc boss you fight in the demo kicked my ass time and time again, I did finally beat it though. I'm all about "gitgud" my 700+ hours in MH4U and 400+ in MH3U speak for themselves. but is the entire game that unbalanced for solo play? Having boss enemies be that stupidly strong for up to four people playing together online, even on solo? kind of reminds me how in MH3U, the high-rank offline/village Jhen Mohran quest was leveled as if you were playing the online quest with 3 other people

yes, tying save data to the game ROM (when it doesn't work that way for legacy shit, even) was retarded.
I think it was to "encourage" people to get PS+, since then you can upload cloud saves. But this bit me when my PS+ expired and I removed P4 only to find out my fucking saves were gone… had backups but was still pissed.

Wait what exactly happens if you upload and then your PS+ expires? They give you at least one chance to download them all back to your Vita right? Otherwise that seems like they're holding your saves for ransom.
I wish PS+ never became a thing. It was so obvious when it started that it was gonna be mandatory for PS4. I'm not sure why anyone fell into that trap. Early PS+ seemed to have far higher profile games for free each month too. I'd like to know what sony is doing with all this money. PSN doesn't seem to have changed very much from the later free version for that kind of pricetag. Even Microsoft offers free save uploading right? It makes no fucking sense why they charge for that. The small amount of data it offers can be found free on a million different sites these days. I could see limiting it that you don't upload 50gbs of saves just for the fuck of it, but this is pretty ridiculous. I own a PS4 and they can take their PS+ service and shove it up their ass.
