The game hasn't crashed for me yet. They fixed a bunch of bugs from the original RCT2:

One ride that would underflow its excitement value and cause it to have an incredibly high value.

Litter bins would never fill up unless they were filled only with one specific type of litter.

Maps didn't do anything. Their function was tied to the toys by mistake.

An exploit to make infinite money.

Peeps having impossible pathfinding.

A bunch of bugs like that you probably never noticed, but affected your game.

A couple features that didn't actually work by mistake and were essentially placebos.

height is the most valuable part of a ride, unless the whole basis for your ride is speed you should never spend all of your ride height on one hill. you should be countering every down with an up especially before short unbanked turns.

1) Have more smaller drops, or counter that big drop with a barely smaller rise.

2) have banking turns wherever possible, hey make the coaster much gentler without hitting excitement (in real life a banked turn is very fun)

3) try and work out a rule of thumb for turns, your cars should never turn or rotate more than a certain amount every few spaces or G forces will be OTT

4)look up the first person footage of real rollercoasters with commentary from experienced users that is all over youtube.

good luck.

This is so weird. I had an erge to make a rct thread because I also felt its been far too long since we've done this. Good thing I checked the catalog.

No it isn't. Its got some useful features but it has a lot of problems, at least the version Im playing does. such as terrible path finding for guests, worse than the vanilla game.

Anyone know how to get this damn game working on Linux?

Are you using the latest version or the stable version? The latest version is always best to use.

The original RCT2 actually has terrible pathfinding for guests, it's just that most people don't notice it.

You do need the game data from the demo or the actual game to play.

Try running it in a terminal to see what error you get.

If all else fails, run the Windows version in WINE.
