Really it all boils down to how Nintendo handles the NX launch. If they're smart they'll have slightly improved versions of their best and latest system-selling games (Splatoon, Smash, maybe Pokken) out at launch, that are backwards compatible with the Wii U versions (as in, you can still play against Wii U players), and people like me will be happy to move onto that. Even better if they're free or discounted if you owned the Wii U version; there would be no reason not for people serious about one of those games to purchase an NX if it essentially gave them an upgrade to 1080p and more stable performance.
If they're dumb they'll hold off for years until they have enough content to justify legit sequels to these games. Which they clearly need to do at some point, but not having these games available at launch would absolutely kill their momentum, possibly leading to a hilarious situation where there are more people buying Wii Us to play Splatoon/Smash/Pokken than there are people buying NXes.
If there's nothing but Nintendo Land-tier casual shit available at launch, it's dead on arrival.

Secondly, Splatoon doesn't use servers, it's P2P. And this isn't a situation like the Wii and DS where the online games on there were tied to Gamespy (which closed down which is why online on the Wii and DS do not work anymore) to make matchmaking.

I doubt it. This just confirms my suspicions that they are planning a release on the new console or at very least planned around backwards compatibility.
* Game doesn't utilize the Wii U pad at all except as a second screen.
* They didn't aim for 60fps on 2 player. This would make sense if it is going to be on better hardware anyway.
* Would also explain them not giving a damn that player 1 can't use the game specific controller. It may work on the next gen Nintendo console for both.
* There are spaces for more characters on the roster which many have assumed means DLC, but the dev has stated to the contrary (http://nichegamer.com/2016/02/17/currently-no-plans-to-add-charactersstages-via-dlc-to-pokken-tournament/). Maybe the reason is a release on the new console?
Anyway, all speculation, but I think it is safe to assume some sort of longevity planned here.

Splatoon may be P2P, like almost every other Nintendo online game, but it still relies on a master matchmaking server that will be taken down some day. Given the popularity of Splatoon there will probably be a reverse-engineered fan server created in response, but it's still a valid concern. I doubt it will happen for at least a few years though, especially if we get a backwards-compatible NX release. Either way it wouldn't be fair to take a game offline less than a year after a significant number of people (Christmas) bought it, there's no way they'd ever take that reputation hit willingly.
Up until recently I would have said go for it, but with the Wii U being discontinued and the very real possibility of a 2016 NX launch, it might make more sense to wait and see if Nintendo will be smart and launch the NX with updated Splatoon+Pokken+Smash. If not and Splat2n is still years away, then it definitely would be worth picking up a Wii U for it, but that's something you can only know in hindsight.
But if you have some money to burn, you can always pick up a refurbished Wii U for $200 and Splatoon for $60 ($40 cheaper than the Wii U + Splatoon bundle. it's not brand new but others have said that Nintendo refurbished consoles are in excellent condition), then count on being able to sell it for at least $150 after the NX launches. $90~ in the long term isn't that much more expensive than the $60 game price.

Looking at gameplay from this Naruto game, I doubt it plays as solidly.
Field stage (arena fighter) mode feels a bit like Virtual On minus the Twin Sticks stuff, and Dual stage (side view) is a simplified 2D fighting mode, that still allows for some depth. It flows very smoothly and controlls very solidly. This game was definitely meant as a gateway drug to more complex fighting games. It isn't just a run of the mill beat em up.
