As of last night this board is under new management. Please take a moment to review our guidelines below.

Welcome to the new and improved /v2/. This board is for the discussion of video games and video game culture, but with a touch of class. This board is not intended to replace >>>/v/, as >>>/v/ is quite a nice board, but it is mean to compliment it…like a fine glass of wine with some aged cheese. /v2/'s rules are a bit more strict than that of /v/, but with good reason. We even have our own fancy Custom theme, which you can check out by hitting the Custom button on the bottom of the page. For more general posting, head to >>>/v/

Rules

1. Act as a gentleman would. The definition is open to interpretation, but a certain level of class is expected when posting. Criticism is more than welcome, but the inability to hold ones spaghetti will be laughed at by the best dressed of us here.

2. Please stay on topic and avoid posting duplicate threads. While we are not the "enlightened" ones here, the idea is that we can uphold ourselves to a higher standard than your sub-average /v/ poster.

3. Only Gentleman's dubs allowed. Use only the classiest way of 'checking them' when attempting to get doubles. Please note that dubspamming is frowned upon in this fine establishment.

4. NSFW is allowed, unspoilered, as long as it is high class NSFW. Poor people's NSFW must be spoilered. Have some taste, anon.

5. This board is open only to adults 18+. Underage posters will be banished from this bastion of glorious conversation.

While I understand your wish to depart from the biggest vidya board, I must say that you are abandoning the fight like cowards. The cancer that has inflitrated our home is easy to repel - only some elitism would be necessary for assimilation and banishment. We are spreading our ranks too thin by moving onto our own, niche boards. Speedy discussion along with high quality is possible, you must only fight for it.

Welcome to /v2/, the joke that never should have happened, but the one we're going to take with us to the grave. Direct anyone who wants to have "serious" discussion" here.

Okay.

 No.288

>>286
That idea has its flaws.

As much as I'd like to see more posters here, advertising us will open the floodgates of /v/ and we would be in need of /v3/ as a result.

However, I do agree we are in need of more posters. Although the post quality is higher, the board is very lonesome and slow.

It is an unfortunate situation.

 No.289

>>288
Thats funny because there's already a /v3/ (if it hasn't been taken down yet). which slogan is shitposting as much as you want exempt of CP, which is the antithesis of /v2/.

It's an endless cycle

 No.290

>>288
With stricter moderation policies, and the original 8/v/ still existing, it would probably be pretty easy to drive off shitposters. That said, blatent advertising would be seen as poor form.

I, for one, welcome our new, superior /v/.

What are your favorite fangames? I've been playing the demo of AM2R, and I'm blown away. The item collection rate is a bit faster than what I typically expect from a Metroid game, but the movement and combat are superb, maybe even better than the official 2D Metroids.

 No.264

Black Mesa was the last one I played, if that counts as a fan game, and I loved it. Really looking forward to the retail version which will run on Source 2 and have Xen in it.

 No.270

>actually using this board

woah, we just kind of kept it here for storing our christmas decorations. Didn't think there was a demand for it.

My favorite fangame is touhouvania, but I haven't played very much fangames in general.

 No.285

Never played a fangame before, how are they?

Hello, gentlemen; I began my first play through of Ps:T today. What are your thoughts on the game?

So far, I am very impressed with the writing. The combat seems like it has potential, but it's very rough around the edges.

My current stats are…

Wis: 19
Int: 15
Dex: 13
Cha: 11

Playing on the hardest difficulty, which has already been challenging.

What are your thoughts on this game?

Please spoiler any discussion of the plot, gentlemen.

 No.284

How is it so far? I have the game installed but I've yet to spend much time on it.

>IntSys is too busy working on this instead of making a follow-up to Awakening
What does /v2/ think of what we've seen of this game so far? Would you rather those resources had been allocated to getting another 3DS FE out sooner?

I find it kind of stupid that they aren't capitalizing on Awakening's success as soon as possible.

Hello friends! This evening I'd like to open a discussion on what is the best of the 4x genre. I've just begun playing Endless Legend, and while I haven't found my niche in it yet, I do like some of the choices the game has made as far as design goes.

I must admit; I am a sucker, for what the less fortunate of us would called "casuals", Civilization 5. But I want to know what you all believe to be the most timeless classic of all 4x games.

 No.256

I suggest you to try Age of Wonders III. If you are ready for something a little more real time but still turn-based (in a way) try StarDrive.

 No.271

>>256
How exactly does StarDrive pique your interest? I have bought the game, but have refused to play it due to it's bad reputation (AI, diplomacy, lack of polish and this is coming from a gentleman who enjoys playing most of Arcen's games). And since I value my time, the game remains unplayed.

>>209
Going back to the topic at hand, I do enjoy Endless Legend. Since I am more of a builder than a fighter, I can ignore the lack of total control in battles in favor of making each race complete and having a team that is commited to supporting it post-release as they have done in the past.

Do not forget about Endless Space either. The AI is vastly improved from its earlier days, and they still continue to put in the odd additional content to what is essentially a two and a half year old game.

I enjoy Civilization 5, but continue to ignore the lackluster and backwards Civilization:Beyond Earth. My time is precious. However, it is well spent on Crusader Kings 2 before I get bored with it again.

If only I had the time to try out Distant Worlds and Aurora.

 No.267[Reply]

You see this game, /v2/?

This game is an awful piece of trash that never truly deserved the title of Bionic Commando.

The story was awful with an equally awful twist at the end. The linearity of it made it the worst Bionic Commando as you couldn't pick where you wanted to go. Pointless kill challenges that got upgrades that rarely did anything for you in addition to limited ammo for the special guns.

But… with all its faults, I loved this game because it had one thing that no game has captured since.

The absolute essence of swinging.

Some people would look at me and go 'But Gentle-anon, what about Spiderman games'? I would look at them and say 'You're right, Spiderman games had great at swinging as well'

But spiderman never had multiplayer swinging. It never got Quake style maps that had you swinging so fast and aiming that you had the thrill of going as fast as f-zero with skill while shooting opponents doing the same out of the air. If you slowed down, you were dead. If you didn't know the maps, you were weapon starved and even armor. All you had was your grapple and your pistol, but if you were good, that's all you needed.

So to this shit game, it's shitty net-code and short life, Here's a toast, Bionic Commando 09'.

>F.E.A.R. Online, the free-to-play "horror shooter" from Aeria Games, will launch through Steam for PC on October 17, it was announced today. The game was announced last summer, and is in development at Korean studio Inplay Interactive.

>You can play the game ahead of then, however, as an open beta for F.E.A.R. Online will be offered through the Aeria Games website on October 8. You can sign up for that beta at the game's website today.

>F.E.A.R. Online underwent an "extensive redesign," which included various "gameplay adjustments" following the game's closed beta, Aeria Games said in a statement today. All of this will make the title a "truly unique first-person shooter game."

>Included with F.E.A.R. Online are ten multiplayer maps and various game modes, one of which is a co-op mode that supports up to four players. The game's storyline runs parallel to that of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origins.

>4 player online co-op

Who else excite? Anyone else remember playing the free FEAR Online when Gamespy still worked?

 No.156

>Anyone else remember playing the free FEAR Online when Gamespy still worked?
I do fellow /v/irgin I miss it everyday

 No.265

I played the closed alpha. This game is complete and utter garbage, it's a complete disgrace to F.E.A.R and FPS games in general. It's Korean P2W full of microtransactions and terrible netcode. All the animations are wonky and sometimes break. You can't even buy anything, you have a big shop full of weapons and armours/items to rent so if you want to keep the good items you'll need to keep renting.
The 4 player co-op is pretty bad but mostly falls due to the aforementioned issues such as terrible netcode and a disgusting itemshop rent2win system.

For the love of vidya do not go anywhere near this game with a ten foot pole.
